I miss the old days of Invasion block through Ravnica City of Guilds block. I miss grabbing cards I LIKED because of cool artwork and some cinematic combat effect, instead of worrying about a min-maxing turbo pile ending the game in 4 turns. The soldier battlefields of Otaria, jungles of Krosa, the muck of Urborg, Cephalids in battle with Laquatus, and Shivan Kavu blasting phyrexians I miss the slow, wondrous pace of old Magic. World building that felt like more was there lurking behind the scenes. Even though they weren’t my friends, I miss playing with my old acquaintances from old shops. I miss having fun with Magic. I would have really liked to have seen Dina and some of the other characters from that uncommon student cycle come back as rares in the new set to represent their learning. I was surprised at Dina specifically because while I don't know the lore I know she was featured a lot in cards and got onto the team-up card for the team-up set. I also like the card and play it a lot, liked the pest and magecraft lifedrain decks from the first set and her design. But of course we got yet another Zimone. I'm not even the kinda chud to make a big deal about this sort of thing but holy shit is it so blatant and tiresome why they push her so much.

Magic has to fight tooth and nail to stay relevant there and gets roflstomped by Pokemon, One Piece, Duel Masters, Yugioh, and has to compete with F&B and Shadowverse Evolve. Part of the reason we're getting horrible looking cards like this is their feeble attempt to grasp at the bale of hay Pokemon effortlessly slings over its shoulder, not to mention increased use of Japanese artists. Japan also eats up any wife-able characters which is why you get Thalia appearing on the Sheltered by Ghosts promo, Unstoppable Slasher promo, Stitcher's Supplier and Spectral Sailor etc.
