>here are the four factions for our wargame
Pretty sure loyalists are more popular than chaos space marines howeverbeit?
>>97954646exception to the rule
>>97954634BUT WHAT ABOUT>Faction mentioned once 20 years ago with 1 model release at a tournament in UruguayPUT THEM ON THE CHART THEY'RE A REAL FACTION AND MY ENTIRE PERSONALITY
>>97954634Losing Faction>Bad Guy Army>Winning Faction>Good Guy Army
>>97954634I think cloaks on snipers are awesome which is why I play The Losing Faction.
>>97954646Chaos is rad>>97954708It's not an exception, loyalists have armies like the Templars who are rad angry face knights and White Scars who are mongols in space with chaos heads on spikes. It doesn't work when the good guys are just>bad guys, with fewer spikes and more religious icons
>>97954761>PUT THEM ON THE CHART THEY'RE A REAL FACTION AND MY ENTIRE PERSONALITYmy beloved Zoats.
>>97954634>Good Guy Army- spread-thin intergalactic peacekeepers>Bad Guy Army- local belligerent dictatorship meddlers>Losing Faction- rugged primitive frontier states>Winning Faction- decadent but advanced foreign empirekind of cooking ngl
>>97954800its an exception in this sense
>>97954811>the good guy army's tech is on par with the winning faction, but they're inoffensive bureaucrats who want to project a friendly, "non-toxic" image hence the lame uniforms>still will fucking fry you with a raygun
>>97954634why are the good guys armed with bananas?
>>97954832designed by committee please understand
>>97954708I don't think it's actually a rule, it's more a Star Wars thing because the Empire looks cooler than the Rebellion. Are the CIS meaningfully more popular than the Republic?
>>97954846>Helghast>Cobra>Combine>Decepticons>Garlemald>The Actual Nazis>Zeon>Fire Nation>Avatar (movie) (the first movie at least)>Literally any villain from star trek vs phaser-wielding dorks in primary-colored jumpsuits
>>97954634A good wargame would have the following factions >factions that are good guys in their own lore and bad guys in other factions lore >obvious bad guy factions that players choose for irony reasons whose own lore makes them look bad
>>97954898Jin-Roh sort of?
>>97954908I tried to go for more well-known stuff but Jin-Roh is another good example. All everyone remembers is the cool armored dudes gunning people down
>>97954904Good Guy Army>consider themselves the space version of the UN blue helmets, here to restore the peace to a conflict-riddled universe>other factions consider them inept, idealistic bureaucrats infringing on their rights and soveriegntyBad Guy Army>sees itself as an impoverished, scrappy nation doing the brutal work that needs to in order to secure regional power status (especially with the Winning Faction eyeing up the whole sector)>other factions see them as unhinged militarists destabilizing the whole regionLosing Faction>the Your Dudes faction consisting of a bunch of different petty states using ancient tech and shaky alliances to try and stay independent in the face of major powers trying to annex their lands>other factions see them as doomed, backwards, stubborn bumpkins in denial that they don't have a chanceWinning Faction>sees itself as an inevitable force of civilization bringing honor, glory, and higher living standards to the ignorant savages beyond its borders>others see them as larping neofeudalist fart-sniffers who just want to colonize the system for their own selfish ends
>>97954634If you're playing a war game, shouldn't the army you're rooting for be the one you're playing with, regardless of its "lOrE"?
>>97954634What do the cute gorls in each faction look like?
>>97954634what is the losing faction's tax policy?
>>97954962Good Guy:>idealistic girl next door recruit>chipper bureaucrat in public, jaded and cynical behind closed doors>idol mascotBad Guy: >leather and whip commissar>indoctrinated slave soldier fanatic (you can fix her)>dubious femme fatale spyLosing Faction: >tacticool sniper tomboy>cocky dropship pilot>milf sergeantWinning Faction:>space knight that keeps yapping about honor>spoiled out of touch princess>deranged mech pilot>>97954970varies but they aint paying them to any of the other factions
>>97954800>Chaos is radNot yet, but they will be when we get through with them.t.AdMech
>>97954811>>97954947>>97954983>last remaining Good Guy private facing down Winning Faction tankhead mech (his sacrifice will allow the Losing Faction settlement he is defending to escape genocide)
>>97954634Loss?
>>97954634In the official novels, The Winning Faction is actually losing pretty bad.
>>97954983>stubborn lady knight>bratty princess (hopefully with big honkers)>mech pilot menhera>peak correction-centric personalitiesFuck man you went too hard in making the winning faction the winning faction
>>97954991Unfortunately the army needed to defeat chaos will bankrupt you and thus you forfeit by default.
>>97954898>lists good guyserm
>>97954634Bottom half is basically Battletech.
>>97954815>warhammer>good guy armyBut Eldar aren't spiky?
>>97954908doesn't work, they're the main characters in the kerberos entries
>>97955368Nah. Scrappy commandos and srs busns combined arms win all the time in Battletech. The Gray Death Legion whupped like half the Sphere with that doctrine and only lost because they pissed off the Blakists (who are also big combined arms fags)
>>97955747The Gray Death legion won because it has an unusually large amount of mechs compared to most forces of its size.
>>97955747Not really. Combined arms only works when it has mechs, and usually only because of the mechs. Whenever you see combined arms forces without mechs go up against any force with mechs (even forces consisting of nothing but mechs) the mechs basically always win. It happened with the Mackie, it happens to planetary garrisons, it happens to the periphery, etc.
>>97955462There isn't really any reason to believe that the other factions are the good guys or more good than the Panzer Cops.
>>97954634... What wargames are you actually talking about?
>>97954634Where's the space skeleton faction? I simply cannot play without spooky scary skeletons that are silly all the same.
I like it when its how Command and Conquer does it>Good Guy Faction>Bad Guy Faction>Weirdo FactionYuri, Scrin, and GLA all stand out as a nice Weirdo Faction that breaks the usual rules
>>97955878OP lazily put two parallel memes together and started the thread with a single sentence. He doesn't play wargames. He's just taking responses for his own purposes.
If you're playing a war game, shouldn't the army you're rooting for be the one you're playing with, regardless of its "LoRe"?
>>97954646>loyalists>good guysCraftworld Eldar or Tau are closer to the "good guys" from the meme.
>>97956669There's rooting for your team and rooting for faction and it's philosophy. Just because you're playing soviets in Bolt Action doesn't mean you think stalinism is cool.
>>97955972That pattern is pretty much the default for RTS games with 3 factions. Off the top of my head, Supcom, Sins of a Solar Empire, Starcraft, the old dune RTS games, Ground Control 2, Earth 2150 and Original War feature the defacto good guy-bad guy-exotic guy trio. I can't actually think of any RTS game where the factions don't roughly follow that mold.
>>97956817Metal Fatigue got the trio as well, with Neuropa being the weird one using alien inspired tech.On a related note, would it kill anyone to have a mech skirmish game where you can kitbash shit however you want?
>>97956841>would it kill anyone to have a mech skirmish game where you can kitbash shit however you want?Gamma wolves?
>>97956796>There's rooting for your teamYeah, that's what I said. You want your team to win because you're PLAYING THE GAME as your team.Anything else is SECONDARY to the GAME.
>>97956870I meant a model line, I can just find its rules, looks neat though
>>97954634Sorry I only play games that are 50 slightly different versions of the losing faction
>>97958713based historicals chad
The most important question: What do the spaceships for each of the four groups look like? I imagine the good guy faction has the underwhelming yet sleek aesthetic of spacecraft from Star Trek, while the winning faction has ships that are loosely inspired by the Imperium of man from Warhammer 40K. The bad guy faction could look similar to spacecraft from any antagonistic faction in science fiction, so it's hard to say what there appearance would be only that they would appear to be less smooth and more rugged than the ships from the good guy faction. Most importantly, the losing faction should either have realistic looking spacecraft (by science-fiction standards) or the type of blocky and utilitarian spacecraft such as pic related. If they don't, I will be very upset.
>>97954828The Good Guy Faction is often seen as bumbling buffoons as the first part of their doctrine is to always try negotiating a peaceful resolution to any conflict. Even when it comes to dangerous nonsapient organisms they'll opt for resettlement or containment rather than extermination. The second part of their doctrine, when all peaceful avenues have been exhausted, is scorched earth.Any faction can beat the Good Guys taking advantage of their naiveté. No one has yet to do it twice.
>>97956696I will die on the hill that Cworlders have the coolest aesthetic in the verse. I don't even know what to call their style other than vaguely mystical from all across the world, especially the near east mixed with general retro scifi alien shit and fantasy elements. Sort of like Morrowind but in space look.

>>97954634I think this one might be better.
>>97954634
>>97962731old memes are old
>>97960746That's just Starfield.
>>97962731This is the ultimate showdown of you have just lost the game
