Has anybody here printed a scan of a plastic model? I'm looking for scans of OOP plastic guard stuff and finecast models, but I'd like to see the digital file with all the "marks" of it being a scan presented in the software(s) versus how it turns out when printed. Also by chance is there an AI prompt on a website that can "clean" the scan of any markers of it being a scan to resemble the original CAD file?

>>97972524i was only half serious ..If you have a 10k resin printer you wont have layer lines really. I've had mixed results with Mr Hobby surfacer and sanding. Im 90% sure if you have a good cleaned up scan and an expensive new printer, noone will be able to tell it from a real model. Basically.
>>97955257>>97974786For example that Executioner is printed by me on a probably 6 or 7 year old second hand printer, the cheapest I could find ( like $150 USD) in 2020. The quality is fine for me , I can imagine current gen printers are insanely good.
>>97968541I'd be way easier to just take 1 hours to learn basic sculpting in blender than try to use some retarded AI over and over until you get something you want my guy.And there's nothing special about scans, they're just 3D models like any other. Some are dirty, some are cleaned and some are even sharpened beyond the original with added depth and details. Some GW models are even recreated from scratch allowing many different positions. And 10k printer is retarded. My 180€ 4k printer prints finer than is reasonable.
>>97974786>f you have a good cleaned up scanI'm talking about "raw scans" of models. What does a properly cleaned scan look like anyways? I'm okay with screenshots of the model before printing.
>>97975247A "raw scan" meaning what? You are now aware there are many, many methods of scanning a model using many different hardware and software options.Like other anon said, learn how to clean scans yourself. Or if you are so paranoid about people knowing your models aren't "real", while being able to afford a 10k printer.... .Just like... buy real models..
>>97975375>A "raw scan" meaning what?A scan of a model riddled with giveaways that it is a scan.>You are now aware there are many, many methods of scanning a model using many different hardware and software options.Yes so far as I know one still has to do manual editing to properly clean a scan of the signs that it is a scan to get a proper cleaned scans.>Like other anon said, learn how to clean scans yourselfI am not very bright at it.>Or if you are so paranoid about people knowing your models aren't "real", while being able to afford a 10k printerI meant 10k resolution printer. Not a 10kUSD printer.I got it during a sale so I'm not that rich. The reason I'm paranoid is because there was an incident at the LGS of an autist breaking another person's models then while being banned started sperging out about his models are recast as the resin is "too bright."
>>97975392>The reason I'm paranoid is because there was an incident at the LGS of an autist breaking another person's models then while being banned started sperging out about his models are recast as the resin is "too bright."What are you worried about? >>97975392>A scan of a model riddled with giveaways that it is a scan.Yea so options are:1. Don't print bad files2. Pay someone to clean the files3. Pay for scans on telegram? (never tried this myself)4. Print bad scans then fix the models with surface fillers / primers, sanding, putty etc.5.If anyone confronts you say "I'll scan you in a minute!" then roundhouse kick them in the head.
>>97975502>What are you worried about?Broken models so a 3d printer means extra proper replacement model wise.>Sounds like the dude trying to claim the other persons models were fake got banned, not the guy with recasts. That was the case.>At the very worst, just say you got them on ebay and didn't know they were fake. "Oh no, really?! I must have got scammed!"That's actually really smart. Thank you anon.I think the biggest concern for me is that the files are to be high quality scans that resemble what the CAD files could have looked like or come very close to looking like the CAD files.Simply like that guy who remade most of the ForgeWorld Imperial Guard tanks. I think he is Russian. So I think I am a bit picky about scan quality. Are you by chance able to take a screenshot of what a proper high quality scan STL looks like versus a bad one to avoid, please?>>97975582I hope not to print bad files. Is terrain a good start in getting the first prints done as terrain might be reusable as rubble if I break them to pieces to resemble destroyed buildings?Clean the files as in of viruses or clean the scans to look as close to CAD as possible?I don't know about paying for scans on the gram to be honest. Feels like opening myself to getting scammed.I don't want to get sued for assault over miniatures.
>>97975858Would you consider pic related a good scan? Most I've come across are quite "soft" and not sharp in the details. They seem to look a lot better after actually printing them out though. Depends on which 3D viewer you look at the file with up until it's actually been printed. I suppose.>Clean the files as in of viruses or clean the scans to look as close to CAD as possible? Yes, there are people on fiverr who would do it but probably charge shit tonne of money. For one single infantry sculpt someone quoted me 200USD.
>>97975858Where do you intend to find the scans anyway? If Telegram then it's possibly a very random assortment of quality. Honestly my advice is to print a squad out, paint it up then do a blind test with someone. Or take them to a game amongst your other models (all painted) and see if anyone even notices. I doubt they will. Minis are very small and people can't see that well to discern surface level imperfections.
>>97968541>Has anybody here printed a scan of a plastic model?maybe>The reason I'm paranoid is because there was an incident at the LGS of an autist breaking another person's models then while being banned started sperging out about his models are recast as the resin is "too bright."For better or worse, people tend to overlook the wrongs of one party if they're outweighed by the other. They aren't gonna cause a fuss about the guy who recast a couple minis when some other guy literally just destroyed all his hard work. That's if they even believe the accusation in the first place, since it's clear the autist has it in for this guy anyway.
>>97976034>For one single infantry sculpt someone quoted me 200USD.To clean it of artifacts that it is a scan or of hidden viruses or malware etc. or both?>Would you consider pic related a good scan?I haven't come across what I consider a good scan so I'm not sure.Does it count as a good scan? Do you by chance have a bad scan to be an example so a picture of what a good and bad scan looks like for retards like me, please?
>>97976388>maybeI think I'm getting what you're getting at in showing those models. Can I have screenshots of what they look like digitally before printing so I can get an understanding what a proper scan STL looks like? If you can show a legitimate plastic model next to the printed model before priming and after priming you will have my gratitude.
>>97976388>too brightActual finecast is a very bright grey, almost white, but moreover, why would it even matter if OOP models were recasts or prints except to a redshirt? An independent LGS isn't making money off OOP models either way. Autists get such a stick up their ass over any kind of perceived "correctness" and I will never understand it.
>>97976778I don't know, I don't really care if my scans are good or bad beyond "good enough". Some other anons may be able to help more.Maybe you could be the anon who is autistic enough to shell out for a $100,000 jewelry 3D scanner and learn advanced zbrush and blender skills in order to bless us other retards with some pristine scans. Looking forward to hearing about your progress, I hope your curiosity pays off in the end my friend.
>>97977430>Maybe you could be the anon who is autistic enough to shell out for a $100,000 jewelry 3D scanner and learn advanced zbrush and blender skills in order to bless us other retards with some pristine scans.Brother I am so demoralized with AI advancements that I can't even find the will to learn drawing. So I doubt I would learn much Zbrush or Blender outside modifying existing STLs.As for the Jewelry scanner I'm not sure. I think AI will develop with proper prompts to "fix" stl scan models to be "CAD-like" before I get the disposable income to buy such a jewelry 3D scanner.Or maybe they'll go down in price like how 3D printers went down so now average people can own one. Wonder how GW and other miniature manufacturers will counter scanners.
>>97976815>Can I have screenshots of what they look like digitally before printing so I can get an understanding what a proper scan STL looks like?It was a decent quality scan as I recall (this was a couple years ago now). The bodies are split into torso and back, with pegs, and all went together perfectly. I'll dig the file out now for a screenshot of a part.>If you can show a legitimate plastic model next to the printed model before priming and after priming you will have my gratitude. My plastic warriors are all ebay rescues that came primed already, so no side by sides of print vs plastic before or after priming I'm afraid. I have one of a few of them side by side during the basecoat stage if that's any good?
>>97977478>maybe they'll go down in price like how 3D printers went down so now average people can own one.Thunk3d scanners are like 5k iirc and are as hi-fi as you'd need for minis. However the best scanners (as in, people who scan) are doing it with openscan 3d, which is freeware. The kit costs about $3-500 to get started; significantly less if you have a 3d printer. As with anything though, lower price means more manual input and they have honed it to a very fine craft. I considered doing it myself but would rather just wait for them to, lol. I have enough other timesink hobbies.>Wonder how GW and other miniature manufacturers will counter scanners.Apparently they've already started removing the 360 degree views from minis on the webstore. And only showing certain angles of minis during reveals, so the sculptors and prompters don't know what the off-camera side looks like.
>>97976815>screenshots of what they look like digitallyHere you go, I've picked the very 'worst' looking piece of a good set and portrayed it in average light. I've painted plenty of printed versions of this torso and plenty of plastic, and honestly you can't tell the difference even in close-up "painting distance" viewing, if your printer is dialed in. That graininess in the screenshot isn't noticeable at all on a real print that's 20-30mm tall. I see a lot of scans and tend to 'grade' them so that I know whether to bother opening them in future. I graded this one A-. I wouldn't print anything worse than a B, maybe B+. There are many objectively worse quality scans out there than this one, which was done by a known quality guy. This warrior kit is very old though, so the scan/plastic difference may be more noticeable on a new kit with random sharp details in every open space.
>>97977478AI is pretty insane already.. I'm getting addicted to image to model generators.. I'm finding well photographed (as possible) oop stuff on eBay and making models. I plan to learn zbrush / blender enough to fix the more dodgy scans. Some have been really rough then one will surprise me with how good it is. Pic related will need hardly any work.
>>97977852Dodgy gens* not scans, sorry.
>>97977852It can even generate models from artwork. I'm going to try to get it to make a model out of some old codex art and see what happens.

>>97977852Hey buddy. How well does the AI from that pic you used work with pics of models from multiple angles? I've got some 3rd party bits from shops like Kromlech that I want scanned in case GW goes after them and brings them down somehow.
>>97977960Hey :) It seems to be completely dependent on the how it is photographed. With a high resolution on a very clear background and with good lighting and levels it does very well. With low res auction pics from ebay the results are very unpredictable but still surprisingly good. You can probably try a few of these sites for free.
>>97977960>>97977947You can download that file and see the juggernaut that was generated with pics from front, back, left and right.
>>97977891>Is there a name or a term for those kinds of scan results so I can filter them out to avoid them or point out to a scan cleaner what I am looking for to be removed?Unfortunately not that I know of. Apart from sometimes when someone who received the file before you and then shared it onward may have renamed the file "{mini name} BAD SCAN" or something lol and that becomes its filename in the various sharing groups forever more.Unless you have direct contact with a good scanner (which is very rare, they keep low profiles for obvious reasons and/or get nuked if they're too public), then you are pretty much limited to digging through files in sharing groups, then opening them and manually inspecting the quality of the scan, the integrity of the mesh, whether there are any floating bits of mesh not connected to the model. Sometimes you'll open a file and the scan isn't even cleaned up, you can still see the crocodile clip that was used to hold the mini while it was scanned. Sometimes you might download a file of 10 old minis to find that 3 of the poses are missing; sometimes you'll download a file with a poor naming convention and open it to realize you've already got that file under a different name, but this one has 2 of the 3 poses that were missing from the other file.So basically unless you have direct links to a good scanner, or you're paying someone to fix issues with a mesh (which is its own process of diagnosing and deciding how to fix based on time vs efficiency vs significantly altering the original), it's just a lot of legwork going through files to find something you are happy with. There are some quality ones out there though, picrel as an example.
>>97976815>legitimate plastic model next to the printed modelI found one more. This isn't my pic so I don't have them primed, or screenshots of the digital version, sorry - just a photo someone posted in a group I'm in, ages ago.

>>97978055Alright that's beautiful.I'm looking at my 3rd party resin and I'm thinking about using the AI software from the pic an anon posted above to digitally archive some aftermarket 30k/40k stuff in case they go down.Thank you anon.By chance can you ask the guy for a digital pic of what the model looks like so I know what a proper scan looks like?>ages agoAssuming he is still here.A few of my groups got nuked.>>97978035I am experienced a bit in the hassle of hoarding files.I organize my files based on creators but my "unsorted" folder(s) are getting bigger.>>97977990Thanks!So if I photograph a model from different angles then photoshop each photo into one image will that lead to better generated 3D results? Or is the tech not there yet? Also is there a command for correct mould slips or removing moudlines yet?
>>97978194>So if I photograph a model from different angles then photoshop each photo into one image will that lead to better generated 3D results? Or is the tech not there yet? Also is there a command for correct mould slips or removing moudlines yet?You ideally use separate images for front, back, left and right. I haven't explored much yet, but there is some topology stuff I think.
>>97978194>By chance can you ask the guy for a digital picYeah unfortunately it looks like the group was nuked, I haven't checked in on them in a few months now. Some of them are talking about recent nukings, like in April, so it seems still ongoing.99.9% it'll have been done with the openscan 3d though, the plastic model in the photo has been prepared in the way they tend to be done for openscan (dark primer, fine white dots).>>97977947Thanks for sharing! I took a look at the rider and had a go at fixing for print. As >>97977920 said, the topology (quality of the mesh) is pretty fucked, but surprisingly not fucked in the biggest areas. My findings in case of interest:> he is SMOL. very smol. like, 0.978mm tall lol. I had to zoom in just to find where he was on my screen. Can of course be scaled up; this is just a point of interest really.> he had 3 non-manifold edges (the biggest issue for slicers). Only 3 is very impressive for an AI gen mesh. I've seen hand-sculpted models with hundreds.> however he had a TON of zero faces, like thousands, which can sometimes be a problem for slicers in my experience> meshmixer auto-fixed the 3 non-manifold edges in like 30 seconds> I tried to remesh the model in blender to get rid of the zero faces. Usually I remesh first, at a very high fidelity, to give the model a better mesh, and then knock back the fidelity with decimate until the triangle count is reasonable. However I'm on my old, everyday PC, which is super slow at blender, so it just hung for ages on the decimate. I'm sure if I was on my work laptop (macbook pro) it'd have worked fineSo yeah very interesting to see, and not very much work to get it fixed up either
>>97978194>>97976388 herein case I wasn't so clear before btw, 10 of these are plastic and 11 are printed, if that adds anything to your thought process
>>97978375Thanks! Interesting and useful stuff to keep in mind!Jaghals are based. Waiting on the last 5 on the printer now.
>>97978476>10 of these are plastic and 11 are printedNow that's amazing. Unless I need glasses now I can't tell which are printed and which aren't.I'm happy now.>If that adds anything to your thought processI have the autism defect so I will always need help.Thank you.
>>97978717>Now that's amazing. Unless I need glasses now I can't tell which are printed and which aren't.yeah I was purposely ambiguous before lol, just to make that point really! I couldn't help myself. There is genuinely no discernible difference between the plastic and the printed models IRL, until you pick one up. The printed ones are denser and colder to the touch, ever so slightly. But just looking at them, even up close, imperceptible.(They're printed at 0.03mm layer height fwiw, so layer lines are similarly almost imperceptible. That'd be the biggest giveaway if I'd printed them at a larger, more visible layer height.)the warriors on the right are the prints (look at their bases, I used badly printed ones)the warriors on the left are the ebay rescuesthe sorcerer is a print of a by-hand resculpt of a scan
>>97978933>yeah I was purposely ambiguous before lol, just to make that point really! I couldn't help myself. Understandable and well played!>They're printed at 0.03mm layer height fwiw, so layer lines are similarly almost imperceptibleDo you mean this before they are primed and painted?
>>97977852I'm looking at this site. What are some other alternatives if this one goes down or if there is one that provides a better free service with better results?Does this site also provide options for multiple images to be used where one side is the "front" another the "side left" "side right" and "back" etc. to all be generated as one model?
>>97978056isn't the minotaur dude from lafig minis?
>>97979136>Do you mean this before they are primed and painted?I don't want to oversell it but pretty much yes. At anything more than 1foot away you wouldn't see any, and closer than that (with good eyesight) you may see very very small concentric rings on only the most spherical of surfaces (e.g. the top of a round helmet). But if you're not looking for them, you won't see them. Once painted, you're even less likely to see them. And of course before priming, the color of the resin is already a big giveaway that it's not plastic. For comparison: after priming and basecoats with properly thinned paints through an airbrush, I've then put thinned contrast paint over a mini printed at 0.05mm layer height, and when the contrast dried you could see a very tiny circle at the top of its head where the contrast settled round a layer line.(It was a skeleton, so a light bone basecoat, dark brown contrast, and perfectly round smooth skull - so pretty much the perfect environment to see layer lines, almost a torture test really)No such issue when printing at 0.03mm layer height though. Some people print at 0.02 but I've never seen the need.

I redid the eviscerator berzerkers, they were too similar with the same pose and swords were a bit too big to sit in the unit nicely. Have kept the old ones to paint though because they're funny.
And now the combat patrol is finished. Have to do basing, putty and paint now, but that is a story for /wip/.
Also I have scans and other files for a lot of World Eaters models now. If anyone wants something let me know and I'll upload it if I have it.

Been working on a fast-swap painting handle for an upcoming project, pretty proud of itFound a copy of the RGG paint handle on makerworld, which uses 10x2mm magnets in the top of the handle and the bottom of the cap to hold them together, you can rotate the cap 360 degrees, and switch it out for another cap in a couple seconds. Unfortunately, the file I found has the magnet holes positioned flush in the printed parts. This means the cap and the handle are pulled together with no gap between them, PLA on PLA, so the rotation of the cap isn't very smooth, it sticks and grinds. So I remade the connections from scratch in blender, and made the magnets stick out of their housings by 0.5mm each. That way there's no PLA on PLA, it's just magnet on magnet, and the rotation is buttery smooth with a nice bit of resistance to it.You're supposed to use poster-tac on the top of the RGG cap, which you push your mini into, so their cap has a lip around the top edge to keep the poster-tac in. But all my minis bases are magnetised, so I wanted a magnetic surface for them to sit on instead. So I've flattened off the top of the cap in blender, and found some 30mm steel discs on amazon which I've glued onto each cap, picrel.Rounded off the bottom of the handle for comfort, added a magnet to its base so it's secure when I want to set it down, and printed the handle + 30 caps in fuzzy skin. Easy prints. All tested too and works a treat. Have also made a magnetised tray to hold the caps for easy bulk transport of minis on caps from room to room.Going to try plasti-dipping the handle tomorrow to give it a soft-touch finish, and then this project should be good to go. And not a minute too soon, because tomorrow I'm supposed to be airbrushing 30 goblins lol.Have you made any cool hobby aids or game aids for yourself anons?
>>97984768Excellent stuff anon ! The most useful thing i printed was an airbrush holder that i attached to a jar lid, so you can rest it there and the water weighs it down . or you can blast all the contents of the cup into it. Pic related isnt mine but same idea.

I'm learning to make my own shit, any advice or feedback anons?
>>97990799looks good so far, I have no advice but I'd be interested to know if you've been following any specific tutorials or anything. I've been meaning to try my hand at a couple bits to fill out my armies
>>97990870I watched some tutorial stuff years back, learned some real basic stuff and then fell off. This time is mostly vibes and remembered stuff and then just googling if I hit a wall.
>>97984947>freecad(not that useful for /tg/ stuff i guess).I just printed some basic 50mm round bases that I designed (big word for that job, but oh well) in FreeCAD.
Mars 5 (not ultra) on sale right now. Thinking of taking the plunge to print bits for the armies I'm working on already because I'm sick of dealing with etsy and ebay sellers with exorbitant international shipping fees. Youtube reviews seem to point me there or second-hand sellers for elegoo's older models, but now is your chance to tell me I'm wrong. How important is the actual resin itself?
>>97990979Elegoo is good ! Resin is everything . If you cheap out on resin the models will be brittle, fragile or have print failures more often . In my experience once i switched to sirayatech fast 99% of issues fixed. Only thing i would change is mixing in some flexi stuff. I recently touched some at a convention that could bend and drop without breaking , seems like the paint didnt fall off either..
>>97990799Pretty good so far. Are you going for the oldhammer style? I think you're getting there if you are. What sculpting tutorials are you following to learn Blender so I can make my own minis and grift 40k's popularity?
>>97990979See if you can find a mars 4 ultra for the same price. Or spend a bit extra for the 5 ultra

>>97992043Won't skimp out on the resin then.>>97992372>>97992679Maybe i'll just put it off for a bit then and see what else comes on sale.
>>97992055I have a real love of the older GW style, so I was looking at older models for inspo yeah but hoping to keep my stuff uniquely mine in some way
Im looking to buy a 3D scanner for preserving old resin model kits. Most of the parts are very detailed and about the size of warhammer limbs while others can be as big as 8 inches. Is Openscan classic a good option? Are prebuilt consumer scanners better? The upper limit for my budget is about $1400 USD.
How the heck do i smooth out this shit. Trying chatgpt vibe blendering but getting nowhere >.<
>>97998296Remesh it (either as a modifier or in sculpt mode) with a really high poly count, use masking and smooth brushes in sculpt mode, then decimate when satisfied.
>>97998370Mild global smoothing in Meshmixer actually worked really well. Blender is beyond me at this point.
>>97997026Some of the best scanners (as in people) use openscan. From what I understand it requires some manual cleanup but for a scan that requires no further work you're really looking at $5k+ for jewellery or dental scanners. With openscan it's more "what you put in, you get back" effort-wise, but the results can be excellent with the right amount of input.See >>97978035 and >>97978055, both done on openscan
>>97998419>Mild global smoothingwhere is that tool?
>>97998419meshmixer is great, I still use it all the time to cut up models or smoothing like you did here
>>97998768I see that a lot of the example scans on the Openscan website are using DSLR or phone cameras or this upgrade camera they sell. Are these necessary for good scans? The fact it says nothing is supported in the software makes it seem like a difficult upgrade.
>>97998883ctrl + A to select the whole mesh , then click Deform then Smoothing .
I made this cool hat. I want to send it to a resin printer in my area but I'm worried that the current polycount will show up in the final print. I'll give it to you for FREE but please reply with a good picture of your print if you use it. https://files.catbox.moe/l19zsv.stl>>97990799Looks nice although I would be careful with the amount of ridge and valley highlighting you're using which can look deceiving sometimes.I usually keep an EEVEE viewport with a basic lighting setup to make sure my volumes aren't too subtle.

Any neat terrain sets I can do at least?
>>97999853Honestly nothing you read on the site can be trusted and should be entirely ignored (it doesn't document v2 of the mini or even the midi at all) The entirety of openscan is unbelievably poorly documented and advertised. The entire project is basically on the discord and github now.Right now the hawkeye works with both the current beta and the composer fork.I'd advise building the current mini (v2.4). If you read about the black shield, know that the only real advantage it has is better lighting and a header for an endstop, but isn't really required.
>>98001660There's too much 3d printed terrain for anyone to make a recommendation without first knowing what kind of terrain or theme you'd like.
>>98001678Manufactorum or tomb world stuff would be ideal but in all honesty I just need files as an excuse to piss away all this filament and get my hobby desk back.

First time trying out hollowing. Lychee voxel hollowing is really easy, you can rectangle select bits that you don't want to hollow. Dunno if it's worth subscribing for though, I'm on free trial atm.
>>98003106>Are resin or FDM printed balljoint sockets more durableDepends on the resin / filament. There's some very strong stuff around. Also mixing in a rubbery resin can give some flex to stop it shattering / breaking.

>>98003949>Do the DoW games hold up?I would think so. Compared to its other RTS contemporaries, it's not exactly deep and objective control mechanics are how you get your main resource, and being secondary media from 3rd to 4th Edition days - is prone to fucking up lore tidbits here and there. The expansions were a bit rocky but they do fill out the factions quite considerably, heard the remaster wasn't too bad after a good bunch of updates, but using a 64-bit executable was a selling point for more stable modding. Also where the Blood Ravens got a starring role, and to this day both /tg/ and /v/ still love repeating the hammy unit lines verbatim. The second set of games is more like Real Time Tactics. The campaign follows the aforementioned space marine chapter gearing their squads and defending their recruiting worlds while earning their meme reputation. The game feel is better but it's not a good game for skirmishing against the AI and the scope isn't really about big battles, though there's a crowd that swears by its competitive multiplayer (albeit with the Elite Mod). Also has a three player co-op mode where you kit a character out before defending back-to-back waves of enemies like a diet ASSFAGGOTS.DoW3 is shit, and the upcoming DoW4 isn't being made by Relic. Could go either way but the trailers are not convincing.>I'm assuming Eliphas is some kind of cucklord? He's a Word Bearers so yes Chaos Lord in Dark Crusade who canonically jobs to the magpies, but has a smooth voice. In DoW II's expansion he comes back working for the Black Legion with a new VA, and then jobs again, before a scene at the end of it shows him in some sort of chamber before Abaddon lets him out. Guess he really wanted the magpies dead for some reason, because Eliphas canonically jobs a third time in Retribution. I guess that they can just keep 3D printing him or some shit.

How come if you go from a 0.4mm nozzle to a 0.2mm one, the print time skyrockets, but if you go from 0.4mm to 0.8mm it doesn't at least halve itself, even if I don't care about visible lines or print quality? What setting am I missing in Bambu Studio?

>>980158011 blender unit is 1 mm (it says 1m, but stls use it as 1mm).so just build the model, make sure the contact points are the same size. depending on shape you can do different techs. if you want find an stl of the physical model, thats always the best to make sure it matches. but its not like a single print costs anything from testing.
Hot take: I support GW hunting down bootleggers because they are a creative curse upon 3D modeling, wasting time and creativity on wannabe-Shithammer slop.
>>98014231Waste water and waste alcohol both need to be treated with UV before disposal. The main advantages are that isopropyl is extremely flammable and that prolonged exposure will cause health problems. If you buy isopropyl in bulk it's not expensive. Don't buy from the first aid section of the grocery stores as it is diluted and marked up in price.
>>98016031It's far easier to evaporate alcohol than water. And you don't need to get rid off it that often anyway.
>>98015956cool story bro
>>98015746>>98015873Or what I do is arrange everything in your slicer with the correct base and /or other scans that you know are correctly scaled . Or you know just experiment and stop being afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes teach us a lot !

Had a major blowout last night in my old saturn 2. Half a quart of resin leaked down into my internals, through the printer kept trucking through all of it so idk if it actually damaged the electronics. I follow the instructions for how to remove the back plate and open it up, but there's fucking hot glue on all the connectors. So what do I do, just swish some IPA through the case and hope?

>>98020386If the printer's still running then it didn't hurt the electronics, so forget all that for now. How did the resin get in? Through the hole that the motor's lead screw projects out of? >>98029664>>98029703>>98031789I think the issue here is the base model you are ripping is highlighting the limbs. I'm guessing there is also a body model somewhere on the same site that would be better than the darkened one you used.
>try to print some plaguebearers>bodies and heads neatly lined up on the slicer>print ends>only a head or two sitting in the corner of the plate succesfully prints>everything else is a failed layer stuck to the FEP film in the basin>nothing even forms on the plate>had to run the tank clean 3 times so far trying to figure it outCan somebody help me? Did I fuck up in the slicing stage? I'm a big noob who just uses default settings on Free chitubox and my printer. It's a mars 4 ultra.I tried printing a 32mm base right in the center of the plate and it came out fine. I think it might be how I positioned and sliced the models but I cant figure out the issue
>>98031889It's also printing much much faster than i would haev estimated. 90 minutes for so many bodies seems very odd.
>>98031891Amount of bodies has nothing to do with print speed. Height of the tallest part is all that matters. Increase burn in layers, and maybe also lift height if your fep is loose in the center. It could be that your plate is not raising high enough, and the fep just sticks to it constantly in the middle.
>>98018611>might add kind of push fit pegs.Add a clearance of 0.1mm to the peg-holes
>>98031889Too many factors left unstated brother, difficult to pinpoint the issue.. Are you using presupported files or doing the supports yourself? Is your printer brand new or pre-owned? How many successful prints have you had, other than the 32mm base? What's the ambient temperature in your printing room? What resin are you using and how old is it? Have you dialed in the resin so that you know your exposure times are correct, or are they a community profile? If you print your files from USB, are you using the USB stick that came with the printer (looks like no if it's that sandisk one)?
>>98031961I supported them myselfIt's about 1.5 to 2 years old hard to rememberMaybe around 70 degrees farenheitYes I've had many succesful prints besides the base. I printed a fully loaded plate a few weeks ago and it all came out good. I'm using siraya tech ABS like resin I got off amazon and it's maybe 6 months old. Not the resin in the tank, the bottle itself.I haven't touched any of the settings or played with customization options. Idek what a community profile is or dialing resin. It's a sandisk cruzer USB but I've used it recently with no issues. I've used a seagate portable 1TB drive also before but my printer sometimes won't read it so I'm using this USB.>>98031934I think you may be onto something. My plate is pretty low but that might because I don't have a lot of resin in the vat. It's more than enough but it's under half capacity. pic rel is as high as it's rising.>Increase burn in layers, and maybe also lift heightnot sure how to do any of that but I don't think my FEP is loose. >>98032004look up Lychee community resin settings, once you have the correct settings for your printer AND resin you'll be sweet.>>98031335gonna be a while uploading sorry anon had to do grocery shopping.
>>98032258is there one for free chitubox or are you suggesting I just switch over to Lychee?
>>980320041/2>I supported them myselfCould be an issue but other things worth investigating first>It's about 1.5 to 2 years old hard to rememberI was asking this to get to the 'how new is the FEP' question, but I see you answered that later - we will come back to it>Maybe around 70 degrees farenheitThis is a touch too cold for my liking, it has a huge effect on prints. I don't do freedom units, but: 70F is about 21C, most resins work their best between 25-30C. Consider heating the room or getting a mini heater for the printer, it makes such a difference. 21C is kind of in the range of "might be an issue, might not", but it's almost always the issue when people come to these threads and say "my printer isn't working and I don't know why">Yes I've had many succesful prints besides the base. I printed a fully loaded plate a few weeks ago and it all came out good.Anything changed since then that you can think of? (Worth looking through all the questions again and seeing if any minor thing is different)>I'm using siraya tech ABS like resin I got off amazon and it's maybe 6 months old. Not the resin in the tank, the bottle itself.6 months isn't too bad. Sometimes they can go a bit janky after 12-24. The datasheet for Siraya Fast ABS says to use within 6 months of opening fwiw. The datasheet also says ideal operating temp is 20C, and you can go down to 15C but will require significantly more bottom layer exposure time. So when you say the room is "about 70F", if it's even slightly below that, this may be where your issue is.
>>98032267You can use Lychee for free my bro! The premium features aren't necessary and you can get a free trial if you want anyway. Community settings are built in to Lychee even without subscribing to premium :)
>>97977852Could anyone make this work for the great knarloc? I have scans of the ballista one but the other 3 are at the verge of being lost models since no recasters have them.
>>980320042/2>I haven't touched any of the settings or played with customization options. Idek what a community profile is or dialing resin.Impressive to have gotten many successful prints without knowing this lol. Dialing in resin is the process of testing different exposure times to find the sweet spot for your printer. Every printer is different, even two printers of the same make and model, so it's best to get your settings tuned to your specific printer and resin.>It's a sandisk cruzer USB but I've used it recently with no issues. I've used a seagate portable 1TB drive also before but my printer sometimes won't read it so I'm using this USB.Cheap USBs can corrupt halfway through a print but your photos doesn't look like that's the issue, and I've never had issues since I switched to a sandisk, so probably nothing to worry about>I don't think my FEP is loose. I changed it in winter. You want it tight but not too tight. It needs a bit of give. All in all my thoughts on possible issues:1) temperature too low: Resin is too gloopy, doesn't have time to properly settle under the printed layers before the printer tries to cure the next layer, and/or is too thick for the UV light to properly cure each layer in time. Solution: increase ambient temp to 25-30C, or increase exposure times to get round the lower temp.2) FEP is too tight: if the FEP doesn't have any give to it, it could be holding onto the printed layers too strongly for the build plate to overcome. Solution: re-tension the FEP to spec, or increase exposure times to help the build plate win the tug of war against the FEP.3) Supports of insufficient strength to keep hold of the printed part: Could be why little things like the heads print fine but the bodies end up pancaked on the FEP. But if you've had successful prints before this feels less likely. Solution: Try thickening support tips and-or support rods. Also yeah dial in the resin - look up 'cones of calibration v3'!Best of luck!
>>98032244oh...3/2 lolhave you levelled the build plate recently? (I forgot about this one as I have one of those auto-levelling things - which I still had to level, in the end). Also, coming back to temperatures, I've seen this kind of thing before where one side of the person's printer gets a warmer airflow than the other and that makes the warm side print and the cold side fail.
>>98032258not a problem, thank you again! this is an awesome haul
I'm thinking of printing some other test model like the little mars Rook piece that comes for free but I'm getting really tired of running the tank clean to get rid of the little pancakes that get stuck on my film...I heard you can put a piece of support in the tank while cleaning to easily peel it off. I tried it after a 20 second clean and it just snapped off. Do I need a piece with more contact area? cause i've been having to remove the vat and push on the film a little bit to pop off the hardened bottom layer>>98032317>>98032302>>98032317>levelled build platenever heard of it or tried itit's been getting rainy lately and my printer is right next to a window. >>98032410>levelled build plate>never heard of it or tried itI'm not sure if that's a sarcastic answer.. if not, respectfully this is pretty wild if you've had loads of successful prints in the past but this is your level of knowledge lol. You've been very lucky imo. You'd really benefit from taking a day or two to learn about the things we've been saying, rather than spending that same time producing more failed prints. It'll help your printing game massively. And you'll eventually have nowhere near as many resin pancakes to scrape out of your vat.Re using a piece of support to pull the cleaned layer out the vat. I've never had much success with that myself. Plus I'd never forgive myself if it didn't catch one of the floating bits of cured resin, then the build plate crushed that chunk of resin down into my FEP and screen, punctured the FEP, cracked the screen, and leaked resin all over the internals.Again I know it's not the quick answer but learning a bit about the printer will help you reduce failed prints which will help you not have to do the vat clean at all. I pack my build plates with hundreds of modular pieces per print and get 0 pancakes these days, and maybe 1-2 slightly misprinted bits every other print. Haven't had to run a vat clean in a long time. I spent a couple days dialing in my resin though. The supported parts from your screenshot look pretty sparse too imo, and there's like zero cross-bracing, which could be another issue to look into.To recap:- level build plate- fix ambient temperature- dial in the resin (or use a popular community profile)- consider using pre-supported parts or using auto-supports- if none of the above work, check FEP tension
>>98032488thanks for the help. No I'm not being sarcastic I'm just ignorant.>cross bracing is another issue to look intoI auto supported it and told lychee to add some cross brace supports. It never crossed my mind before even though I see them all the time on presupported stuff. here's a picture of some things I plan to print after I mess with the build plate later this week. Lychee was able to connect to my printer wirelessly. Will that have an effect on the print or is better to go wired with a USB stick?>>98032429I found the settings in lychee for my printer and resin. thank youI googled how to level the build plate and I'm gonna try it on in a few days when I have time.

>>98032596Awesome anon! Lychee is a great product. I know this is resin land, but does any anon know much about recent FDM printer models? I don't know how to shop and compare models, but I want to get an FDM printer in around the $400 range that has good features (can handle many different materials)
>>98034332I got an elegoo centauri carbon, and it feels like a quality machine. It's my first fdm printer, so I'm obviously a noob and have nothing to compare it to. But so far non of the ender 3 horror stories has happened to me
>>98033713If I like something and I can see me printing it a couple of times, I have no issue to pay like 10-15€ for a multipart unit. I like to kitbash, so if something looks like it's compatible with a lot of other stuff, it's worth it to me.Same with vehicles. If I like a design, I have no issue to buy it. Obviously I usually wait to shop for a bigger sale on MMF.What I actually despise is when the individual releases cost a lot more than the monthly tribe or patreon subscription. That's just scummy. Like 40€+ for a monthly release, when the monthly subscription is 10. I would never buy that, and will happily pirate, no matter how good the models might be. Such creators do not deserve a single cent of support.
>>98033312yeah depends on the model in question. as you say, 10 for a squad with options is decent. I've paid 20 for some fully modular squads before, but only when I can't find a good version of that kind of squad anywhere else, and I usually try to wait for a discount code for them.individual characters, I'd be OK paying like 8 for a really good sculpt, if it was monopose. For a modular kit that I could interchange with other models in my army, I'd go to 10-12.really depends how much I want that particular type of model too.. 10 for a weeb necron seems steep to me but that's because I'm not into weeb necrons. But put something like a modern take on a 4th edition style black orc warboss on wyvern STL in front of me and you could name your price lol.I guess ultimately the creator can charge what they want for their time and models, so I wouldn't say there's a 'fair' price for an STL, just some prices that are acceptable to me and some that are "ambitious" on the creator's part!
>>98034006i feel like this is how i operate. buying when i cant find a better option. I have the baseline of wanting to support the creator though. I play a lot of necromunda and printminis i want to see modeling for the forseeable future. great bits and character proxies. Some nice terrain bits too. but they do exactly what >>98034817 says. charge 40 bucks for the models that you can get for 10 if subscrubed which is complete horse shit. >>98034999its the wild west for pricing your models, obviously just sell what you can. its more whats fair from a market perspective, with us as the customers. I understand that i can print this file as many times as i want, but a lot of them are designed to just be printed once (ala character) can charge what they want and should charge are definitely 2 different things
>>98034817I really hate this monthly sub bullshit too.You look back on the creator's catalogue and see all the good shit you missed.I'd be happy is they started doing more bundles, like past 3 months bundle for 3*1 month sub price and similar stuff.
>>98032777Aw fuck, I was about to ask the same. Also interested in Crusade Case conversions

FEP rip on the first print (cones of calibration). Is the tilting vat a meme?
>>98037432...i-is that a tribute pic?
>>98037432S4U owner here, love the tilting vat, would never ever go back now. Never had a FEP rip on it, and printed something like 4-5 full plates of cones of calibrarion RERFs (so like 32-40 of them) and 20kg of resin since. Might just be bad luck on your part, sorry dude. New FEP and try again, hopefully it will be smoother sailing from here :)

>>98038479I do not think its a question of wont share, more they they cant share because no one here bought it. Do you really need that exact model? There are 5 bazillion dragons stls in the wild.
>>98038304Maybe have a look into the Snapmaker U1 if you can afford it.It has 4 toolheads, so unless you print in more than 4 colors you do not have huge piles of poop wasted, and it can print this new experimental stuff where you mix filament in thin layers so you can in theory print any color with just 3 colors of filament.https://3druck.com/en/programs/open-source-solution-fullspectrum-extends-orcaslicer-with-color-mixing-for-snapmaker-u1-56155035/

>>98040126Hey Faggots,My name is Flipper, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day looking at stupid ass pictures. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any pussy? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to pictures on facebook.Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I'm pretty much perfect. I was captain of the seaweed tag team, and starter on my jellyfish catch team. What sports do you play, other than "jack off to naked drawn Japanese people"? I also get straight A's, and have a banging hot girlfriend (She just blew me; Shit was SO cash). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.Pic Related: It's me and my bitch

People have been oddly kind in the past few days. I got a random anon sending retro chaos dudes scans after asking in /awg/ for classic mini manufacturers...It came out OK with FDM, thanks, anon.
