>So they all use spells, but the mechanism they learn them by is different
>Wizards are supposed to be studying magic out of a book, for instance, and then manipulate it around themselves with hand movements or speech to create effects, while sorcerers are just born as being part of the magic around them thanks to having some kind of distant heritage from a magical creature, and warlocks make a pact with a creature to be able to use some of its magic
>Don't even get me started on wu jen and sha'ir

Oh look, it's another "retard complains about D&Dogshit while refusing to play one of hundreds of better games" thread.
>>
>>97960018
Is that what this thread is? It looks more like a combination of topical anecdote with a thematically appropriate image to make it look like the guy is explaining magic use classes to a disinterested woman.

And from thence the humor arose.
>>
>>97959500
All this doesn't matter, because at any table any of it could go out the window at the DM's whims. The moment she actually sits at a table and makes a character, she knows nothing, no matter what ads she saw, no matter what podcasts she's listened to or advice panels she's watched, no matter what stories or information anyone has given her.
It will be a matter of accepting what the DM does, begging him for what she wants, or finding a different group, because "D&D" is only the ephemeral suggestion of a game, a thought experiment about a system of quantum particles whose actual state of being changes every time you discuss or examine it.

By this "standard" TTRPGs as an entire medium are bunk, because it's true of literally all of them, because there is no hard force dictating the rules be followed.
>>
>>97960796
I'm only going off of how retards have praised and defended D&D for the literal years I've tried to discuss it.
>"D&D is great! I got to suplex a dragon three size categories greater than my character!"
>"D&D is fun! My DM made everyone effectively blind and deaf as my bear character somehow passed persuade checks to pass as a human!"
flips to
>"D&D wasn't falsely advertised to you, you're just a rules lawyer autist minmax power gamer!"
>"You have a problem with D&D? It isn't the system's fault! Find a new DM!"

The standard, that you have sarcastically put between quotation marks, is propagated by D&D's personal defense force to this very day. A system can't simultaneously be responsible for what it doesn’t do and not responsible for what it doesn't do, regardless of whether or not its participants enjoy it.
The world's greatest TTRPG cannot be the best of its kind if every other TTRPG is qualitatively exact.

You have a problem with this standard? Address how other people discuss D&D, not the one criticizing them.

>I'm only going off of how retards have praised and defended D&D for the literal years I've tried to discuss it.
In a thread that does no such thing. Thus you have made a proactive assertion, and it must be defended in the general case.

>Okay hon but I'm rolling a bard.

This thread doesn't change observable facts, and it doesn't change the functionally unanimous testimonials from the system's users, nor does it change the free and endorsed advertising of the system through recommendations, personal experiences, or professional use.
The system takes credit for what it doesn't do and therefore is bad when used badly, or it doesn't take credit for what it doesn't do and therefore is incomplete as written and falsely advertised.
Pick one.

Is the world's greatest TTRPG the best of its class, or do other TTRPGs function the same?
Pick one.

Address the topic at hand, or be silent. I won't accept bad faith, deflections, and gaslighting any more.

I wanted to add a couple warlock levels to my warrior in our 5e campaign and trying to understand how the whole thing works literally felt like the woman on that picture. I used to play 3.5 like 10-ish years ago and shit didn’t feel so complicated!
>>
>>97960790
That applies to all games, regardless of how they're designed, including any system you might write yourself. People can always change things. That's just a fact.

>>97960871
Don't bring your issues from past discussion into a new one unprompted, please.

>>97962257
Why are you trying to change the thread's topic? If you want to air your grievances, you can start a whole new thread for it.

NOW he sounds like a chad.
I still think Warlocks are a stupid overlap with Sorcerers.
>>
>>97963464
Warlocks are stupid in the same way Paladins are stupid. If you make a contract with a powerful being why the fuck would level 1 warlocks even exist? Same with level 1 paladins who get autism powers.
>>
>>97959500
Talking about Wu Jen and Sha'ir, but then you jump to 5e 'edgy cleric' shitlocks instead of the Complete Arcane warlocks?
>>
>>97962257
>Address the topic at hand, or be silent.
The topic at hand is elfgame lore, not the virtues or lack thereof of elfgame systems. I'll repeat >>97962605's query of why you don't start your own thread about it.

>>97963636
>If you make a contract with a powerful being why the fuck would level 1 warlocks even exist
Deal for startup rather than lump sum.

>Same with level 1 paladins who get autism powers.
The autism powers have only begun to kick in, they have many a trainset and little pewter army man left to collect.
>>
>>97959500
>Wow that's so interesting Chad.
>Can you tell me about Truenamers and Shadowcasters next?
>>
>>97963636
Need to adapt to and learn to use those powers, I'd assume. Warlocks would make a lot more sense if wizards weren't a thing and people who're not born with magic powers needed to do something more than study to gain them, though.
>>
>>97964667
>Truenamers
>>
One of the shittiest things about trying to talk to a D&Dfag, especially a 5efag, is their inability to carry on a conversation due to lack of language comprehension and the insatiable need for their personal enjoyment to be unequivocally validated.
Talking to a 5efag is like "playing" D&D; the only winning move is not to play.
>>
>>97964688
>Warlocks would make a lot more sense if wizards weren't a thing and people who're not born with magic powers needed to do something more than study to gain them, though.
Because people in the real world are just lining up to do all the studying necessary to earn a PhD, right?
>>
>>97964718
>Chad?
>What's wrong, honey?
>You look sick...
>>
>>97964730
Wu Jen and Sha'ir are not 5e content, anti5ebabby.

>why the fuck would level 1 warlocks even exist?
Because you've merely piqued the entity's interest.
It would take something great to make it invest more power into you.

That, or maybe make better pacts. Actually, that can work too.
Start few levels higher, but you have pact conditions out the ass.
You got the power alright, but now you're it's bitch and it won't let you forget that.
First few level-ups would be more about loosening your chains, than growing in power.
Now there's an idea for an alternative start as a warlock or it's equivalent.
>>
>>97964739
If a PhD gave you superpowers I bet it would be a lot more popular.
>>
I'm now 100% certain that there are people dedicated to making sure every thread on /tg/ is miserable. And as much as I don't reply to them, I can't stop them replying to themselves and flooding every thread with their bitterness.
