>DM reveals the party's fighter is the secret bastard child of the king and now he has to take the throne to save the kingdom
>>
>DM reveals that everything in the past four campaigns has all been the work of one shadowy organization that got mentioned all of once, even the shit that makes less sense for it to have been done by a shadowy organization instead of the existing explanation for why it went down like that.
>>
Sounds really boring.

Will he save the kingdom from the goblin menace plaguing the land?
>>
>>97961675
Too bad he's been an annoying faggot for most of the game, so now he has to die for my amusement.
>>
>>97962005
Wow, you reached the level of google image search. Maybe a few more years and you will get to ChatGPT.
>>
>>97961675
Last time I was in a game where this happened, the player was more concerned with playing Bar Rescue on a tavern he bought than actually running his kingdom and never took the throne.

Glad you admit this thread was made by a bot. At least you're being honest now.

I know you're used to cocks being shoved in your mouth, but please don't do the same with words when talking to others.
>>
For what it's worth, I think secret bastard royalty is a decent character hook. It's part background part motivation and it gives both player and GM angles to pursue.
>>
>>97963929
Yeah, it's pretty versatile, you can have all sorts of campaigns around it. It's not even exclusive to fantasy settings.

I pulled off a version of this in a recent campaign that landed fairly well.
>character is from humble origins among itinerant swamp folk
>crown princess of a vassal kingdom of a major empire has a mental breakdown, claims to have heard something
>PC mentions this in passing to his father, who freaks the fuck out and grabs him by the shoulders
>"Tell me EXACTLY what she said she heard"
>turns out dear old swamp dad is the long-lost crown prince whose disappearance led to his younger brother taking the throne
>disappeared because he found his own father in a secret ritual chamber beneath the palace, sacrificing children to a dark entity
>struck down his father, fled the scene with incredible trauma, and then fell in love with a swamp gypsy
>younger brother kind of ran the kingdom into the ground before getting executed as punishment for plotting against the emperor
>since swamp dad was still alive and was actually the one who should have succeeded to the throne, this nullified the current crown princess's claim and meant the PC was actually next in the line of succession
>but first they had to deal with the fact that granddad had been kept alive in a blasphemous state by the entity below the palace and that he had started to exert control over the girl's mind
Played out really well at the table. Player spent the rest of the campaign desperately trying not to be a prince, with his father threatening him with responsibility whenever they argued.

i mean dragon age handled that very well given that the party has the option of
>take the throne
>take the throne with the former queen
>be pissed at having to take the throne
>retire the character after he takes the throne
>sacrifice himself so he won't have to rule
>give the throne to the other character with the noble background
>marry the other character if the players are into that
>not take the throne at all and gamble on the queen being able to do the job

Yes the first game was good and the second game, in hindsight, wasn't that bad. A pity for the rest of the series.
Anyway anyone has any experience with the Dragon Age TTRPG or the AGE system? Seemed kinda stupid when I first looked it up years ago, especially the stunt points but since then I played a lot of Conan 2d20 that does something similar with momentum points and it works pretty well there.
>>
>>97964550
Played DA TTRPG and Blue Rose. I have to say I don't like stunts. Many of them should be just standard actions, they pop up at random times and inapprioppriate moments so it's hard to use them in an interesting or tactical way, you can get one even with a shitty roll but on their own they are not enough to save such roll. Easy fix for most of those complaints: you should just be able to store a fixed amount of stunt points and be able use them when appriopriate.

First was mid
Second was shit

I'm so fucking tired of this abused housewife biodrone revisionism
>>
>>97964550
i played it, but i don't remember anything about it's rules

i played so much d20 games that they blend in together which probably means that if you like that era of d20 games it works?

The AGE system uses 3d6 for its main resolution roll though

The funniest thing I ever learned about Dragon Age is that the worldbuilders were so uninspired that the best name they could come up with for The Dragon Age Setting is The DAS- THEDAS.
>>
>>97968653
in general the creation of the first game must have been wild. We also been told that the dark spawn the central antagonists of the game been a late addition who originally only been added so that the players could kill something without any moral questions and that at first they just been orcs
>>
>>97963929
Agreed. And Alistair was a great character.
>>
>>97961709
we just ignore that piece of shit. to be honest, origins was the only actually good game.
>>
>>97961806
oh yeah. Should been some gay tran black they/them that just a rainbow/black face of a classical hero cause that's original. That or make some OC mary-sue girl-boss with half shaved hair and a "POC" lesbian girlfriend who is given the crown cause she was better in every way and everyone else need to admit to it. Cause that's not fucking retarded.
>>
>>97962617
Yeah
>>
>>97961675
bit offtopic but I'm curious:
In ever actually played a female character in DA 1, if you do, can you marry alistair and become queen or something?
>>
>>97968813
That sounds obnoxious, on top of still being boring.
>>
>party's monk story is that he was kicked together with his mother when he was 5 to live on the streets and found shelter later in a monastery but the mother died of disease of that time living on the streets
>paladin's story is being the pride and joy of her rich family having everything secured since birth and is only being an adventurer to rebel against her father
>GM reveals the resurrected paladin is the sister of the party's monk
GM doesn't understand why the monk's player is roleplaying as incredible bitter to his previously friend
>>
>>97961709
Damn that's bad. A DM doing this would even piss off his woke female players with abysmally shit taste.
>>
>>97962664
Harpy witch talons typed this post.

>>97964550
All I remember of the one DA game I played was there was a Dragon and part way throgh I started wondering if he was recruiting because everyone around me was an asshole except my immediate party members.
