>>97962049If I were to start a third project, it would probably be Empire or Renegade crowns, just for the aesthetic.Currently working on 1000 points of both Vampire counts and Chaos.

>Beastmen battalion sold out online on GWs store>Found a hobby shop that still had one in stock with a discount on it tooRaaroo brothers
>>97962049i just started my second army with cathay, i still dont have all the models yet so i need to finish collecting that. i've already got a bunch of dwarfs too, the only other thing in whfb that really interests me might be high elfs, but only if they get some model refreshes. their cavalry and characters are good but their basic infantry and some of their creatures are pretty doofy. if they could redo the high elf dragon with the same level of fidelity and dynamism you see on miao ying that would be amazing. i do think the old isle of blood gryphon rider holds up though, he's great. overall im just really happy warhammer fantasy is back and getting new ranges and refreshes again. i like aos and 40k, but fantasy is its own vibe and i hope it survives this time cause they're doing good work with it.

>>97962611>small cat people in nippon
>>97962614because people report them and get them taken down. The thing that people dont get is who is doing the reporting. >>97962592>>97962611>>97962652we desperately need more fantasy in fantasy. this game, and especially the old world incarnation of it, focus way too heavily on the historical aspect of it and lordly fiefs and merchant routes and just boring ass human shit.we need more creatures, more magic, more enchanted forests and hag riddled bogs and caves with a dragon. the games gotten too far up its own ass with its obsession with human politics

Already got the table flocked and the terrain built. But, I've not even started the gobbos yet, so my choice for next project might change between now and then. >>97962614>People talk about 3D printing stuff so casually I expected it to be easy to find files. It was, 1-3 years ago. For a while it was a bit like a gold rush. Unfortunately in the last year GW have been employing a 3rd party who use AI to get anything and everything DMCA'd - even legally distinct files that just have 'warhammer' or like 'ulthuan' in the tags at the bottom of the page. Telegram groups have been hit too, a bunch are nuked, and the rest are locked down.Luckily, fantasy models are the least copyrightable out of everything, so plenty of good ones are still freely available. I only know of literally 4 fantasy proxy files that got nuked, and they were all fairly original GW creations (skaven bombardiers, dragon princes and the like).>>97962677>a full greenskin armyplenty out there, ranging from relatable proxies to 1:1 sculpts.search:- highlands miniatures (picrel, they have 3 ranges: moredhun's orcs, steppe goblins, swamp goblins - they are all different sides of the same army)- monstrous encounters: has made an O&G starter army, currently working on a night goblin starter army. has just released some 'gobblers' to patreons like 2 days ago, should be up on his store soon, and is working on gobbler hoppers right now. ('starter army' consists of 1 lord, 2 heroes, 3 troops, 2 special, 1 rare. pretty cool concept imo)- diceverse hoppers for more red balls with teeth- insight miniatures for some familiar looking trolls- MOM miniatures for alternate style orcs- avatars of war for a bunch of O&G in a middlehammer style- The Longsnouts for cool orcs based off the 3rd edition art- gublinz for more goblins and trolls- it's quite tough to find two giant red balls of teeth chained together, best I've found is 'tripping jester'- there are plenty of other smaller makers for other sculpts of orcs, goblins, feral (forest) goblins, cave (night) goblins, goblinlings, and so on - but the whole range is covered multiple times over by the ones above

>>97963141Thanks a lot anon, that's a lot to chew on
>>97962890Not too shabby of an idea, since it could explain why the dragon emperor wouldn't be too keen on crushing one of the last vestiges of the pre-old ones world.
>>97962049>TQI started recently (7/6th) and I'm still painting my dwarfs, but after a few tutorial games I had something less passive as my alt. So once I'm done painting I might strat one of these:>empire: I love them, they combine my favorite elements, blocks of infantry and cannons with cavalry and magic which I don't have as dwarfs>vampire counts: they're just cool, albeit less than empire to me>beastmen: the ambush rules make them different and they seem fun>dark elves: they seem fun if underpowered and we have a lot of high elves around here>kislev: always liked their lore and cavalry so I might print a few models as allies to add mobility to my dwarfs>dogs of war: I love mercs and they can work as a main army or allies>ogres: few models, easy to print and paint as a side armyIt helps that all of the above are rare at my club which might be mostly orcs and high elves.
>>97963432>beastmen: the ambush rules make them different and they seem funAnd in 7th they have Raider. Such a fun and great ability.
>>97963432I know at least one other dwarf fag, who's been a dwarf fag in pretty much all games he's played, who also confessed he's very much fond of ogres because to him they were "like dwarfs but bigger", I don't think he's particularly bright, but he's a trustworthy and honest fellow and I believe his taste may end up aligning with yours here, so I will tell you to go with ogres, they are the most distinct from the dwarfs in size, look, culture, gameplay, still have cannons and guns, will be a more or less easy and relaxed project and you can even justify allying them in as mercenaries if you need a big army.
>>97963466>>97963432>>97963471Oh, as the raider guy, I'll agree ogres is a decent choice. It's a meme in this thread that beastmen are like half of the armies played here, but they are a higher skill ceiling army than the rest. In 7th, they also have amongst the highest skill floors as they have a lot working against them. As always, beastmen players know they're beastmen players before they buy into them.
This is peak dwarfen physique
>>97963466>>97963511We use 7th edition rulebook but 6th army books.>>97963471They're though as dwarfs but that's about it from what I've seen up to this point. They move fast enough to actually get in a fight with most of their army.

>>97964483I have the same problem. Recently I purged by getting rid of all my 40k projects save for the one army I have. I might get rid of that army as well. The goal being to focus on Fantasy, because I don’t have time for multiple games let alone painting multiple projects for multiple games. The bright side is getting rid of almost all my 40k shit has allowed my brain to justify keeping some fantasy projects I’ve had in the backlog for a while.

I'm thinking of having a go at making whatever the fuck one of these things is called (the bit on the side of the table that is painted to look like the battlefield extends out to the horizon)I'd do it in watercolor or airbrush, but I guess it needs to have a rigid enough back to stand up when clamped to the table. What's the best material to make it out of do you think? Perspex or thin plywood maybe? Or in general does anyone have any resources on how to make one of these? Cheers lads
>>97964874I might shitpost a little but wouldn't stoop to perry manlet posting. Please.
>>97964539unironically I think the day 3 grot is one of the best minis GW have put out in years. He's got that 2.5D 'limited by sprue technology' vibe that all starter box minis used to have.

>>97964941What is it with this thread and broo?
>>97964918That's just called a backdrop. They are very common on historical tables and were used quite a bit in oldhammer era. I've seen a lot of them printed or just painted, frankly even if you create a childlike painting that's just a blue sky with some white puffy clouds, maybe some green rolling hills, that still looks much better than no backdrop at all.
>>97964539>TOW diedAnd that's good. You don't want Warhammer Fantasy to return in the hands of modern GW.
How would (You) rank all the major armies from S tier to F tier, in terms of coolest/their playerbase?
>>97965007The specialist studio or whatever are doing just fine with TOW.
>>97965082S tier: Things I like, such as orcs and goblins, high elves, or Empire.C tier: armies I don't think about much like wood elves.F tier: Skaven. Their figure range isn't appealing to me, and every single Skaven player I've met has been insufferable.
>>97965092lol. I can't and won't deny that they didn't kickstart Warhammer Fantasy back to life again, but nothing they've done is really usable in the long run. The rules? Awful and must be house ruled. The models? Hit and miss with dumbass FOMO minis that come up for preorder for a brief moment and then are gone again, I'm still using recasters for 99% of the models simply because they offer the entire catalogue of old minis because James won't. Not to mention how badly they dropped the ball with the "Legacy" armies. I can guarantee that if it wasn't for the Total War games this wouldn't have hit even a single digit percentile of popularity because for oldfag Warhammer Fantasy players this is still a shitshow, and I think over time the Total War fans will learn to sour on how James does business as well and come to realize that you have to take ownership over the hobby yourself.
>>97965092Yeah man I love giving High Elves dark magic and Humans high magic.
>>97965129>Awful and must be house ruledExamples?
If I have a beastlord on foot with heavy armor, shield, hand weapon, armored hide 1, does that cap out at 3+ or does it hit the 2+? Basically, does the parry not count because of the armored hide?
>>97965129This. Unironically I just played a game of Warhammer Fantasy using Midguard Heroic Battles rules and it was 100x more enjoyable and felt much more modern and smooth than TOW. It has all the tools to represent Warhammer armies but with none of the clunkiness and needless crunchy baggage that bogs down a game of TOW. Crunch can be fine in a game like Battletech where it enhances the experience, but in TOW is just slows down play and leads to more confusion and rulebook referencing
have you ever met a black person that likes/plays fantasy? there was a mid-functioning autist one during 7th that played tomb kangz and his dream was to work at GW. i think he was too disabled for that though, and that store closed.
>>97964483Lmao I just buy shit anyway.
>>97965191DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A PDF COPY OF THAT BOOK????

>>97965237Slaanesh Beastmen then.
>>97965092You’re arguing with Perry. He won’t listen to any positivity regarding TOW.
>>97964483Literally just throw the old stuff out.Fuck it. Don't bother saying you will waste time trying to sell shit. If you are a functional adult like you should be your time is worth more than the effort reselling Warhammer.Just accept it's lost and throw that shit in the garbage.Just last week I threw out all my old 40k shit. Done with that garbage.
>>97965189I would imagine it caps out at 3+, right? Parry specifically says "to a maximum of 3+". It caused a stir when that rule was added because it cancelled out any defensive advantage of taking units with full plate armour vs heavy armour if you were going to get them into combats.
>>97962890This is actually an interesting idea, maybe it could be implied, rather than just strait up stated/explained by GW. I prefer it when ancient history isn't totally set in stone.
>>97965453No he's not
>>97965162
>>97965519>Just last week I threw out all my old 40k shit. Done with that garbage.I threw out tons of shit outdated AOS books and modern white dwarf mags. I had better things to do with my time than try and sell them for pennies. I understand now why the average customer for GW is only 2 years. You eventually wake up and realize most of the (current day) product is just low effort churned out garbage.
>>97965519This is horrible advice, I’ve been selling off my 40k shit over the last two weeks and all of it sold very quickly and with surprisingly high retained value. Books/rules aren’t worth much unless they are very old, but the models themselves have a ton of value and resell easily if you live in at least a decent sized town.
>>97962049>TQHE. When I resurrected my main army (VC) few years ago, I started gathering HE in different states as a second force. Cleaned all of them, pinned and glued some, painted a few test minis. But due to some events, I started working on the empire and pulled it to a playable state. As soon as I was mostly done (one unit and hero left from my initial estimation). There were multiple minor projects in the meantime (e.g. 3rd ed Eldar for 1500, terrain projects, Warmachine Mk1, some dudes for RPGs). Now I'm building a chaos soup, but that thread of knife ears is still in the air, just looming over my shoulder. I guess that they would make a decent 4th army.
>>97965652In my city of over a million, the effort isn't worth it. Second hand Warhammer players are all cheap, wishy washy faggots. Too many times they agree on one day and then message the next (often the day before the meet to exchange the goods) that they 'changes their mind.'Don't associate with these trash. Don't bother wasting your life dealing with them. Just dumpster that shit and focus on the projects you care about.
>>97965244>larpIt's banter, and I'm not pretending to be anything I'm not.You seem a little tired up, though, maybe some deep breathing could help.
>>97965576>laundry list of rules and restrictions Truly a pathetic state of affairs this hobby has become.
>>97964918I've made mine on a cheap canvas. I should have bought something bigger (it's around 22" wide). It's hard to get decent pics while playing a game, but it works for pics like this one.
>>97965702So fucking based >>97965697The problem isn't that that list exists, the problem is that it is necessary
>>97965524Yeah, for most troops it just sucks. There are specific edge cases tho like this where I could take platemail, shield, and armored hide 1 if I took the chaos plate armor. And I think there is a way to get a theoretical 1+ in chaos warriors but it caps out at 2+ before modifying by AP.
I find the 7th ed beastman book a bit iffy on fluff. Is there any other good sources of beastman fluff?
>>97965729what are you looking for specifically? because I'm afraid your only options are liber chaotica and the age of sigmar battletomes
>>97965697Such is a by-product of a half assed edition clearly intended to recycle old assets & capitalize on nostalgia rather than make an adequate & lasting game.
>>97965190>>97965804Is Midguard any good? What other "unofficial" Warhammer substitute rules can you recommend? I love the lore setting and models but I just cannot get myself to enjoy the slog that is TOW

>>97965576Wtf is a fan based GW pack?
>>97965987Nothing like that, I went the budget way. I bought a few acrylic paints in a supermarket and took a few lying around for my terrain projects. Then watched around 20 minutes of Bob Ross and started improvising. Took an evening to do this. On the next day I gave it a single coat of matte varnish, and that's all. It was a great break from working on miniatures. You should definitely give it a go, just don't make my mistake and get something wider.

>>97966222I have seen very little opposition to the Renegade Pack online and none in person. As for German comp, IDK what that is but I don't trust it on the basis of it being German.
>>97962671I don't think human politics is the issue because all of gw's IP, 40k and aos included, now read as similarly shallow and locked that's even when human politics isn't the focus. The problem is that gw's fluff has become progressively inbred, it can only ever reference its products or at best some older product, fluff is no longer intended to give context, explain things, expand the scope and build the world, fluff exists only as filler to showcase the latest product.GW has simply forgotten that a rich setting is a product in itself and cut all possible corners about its development for everything else, worldbuilding is now practically only ever accidental, not reasoned and purposeful.

>>97966356Based >>97962671Cringe. Go play AoS or 5th edition DnD if you love freakshit so much. The heavy historical influence (thank you Perry Twins) is what really sets WHFB apart from any other setting. Without it, Warhammer Fantasy would be just another Tolkienesque generic fantasy setting
>>97966458That's just the Holy Roman Empire with air ships. That being said I LOVE airships and air balloons and the Empire could really lean into that aesthetic, that's probably the only way I can actually see it being improved. Pic semi related, idk what game this is but the airship is kino
More airships (based)
Almost done Grudge Bearer. Although it's a meh kinda book at the start. It does get better as it goes on. And it does a great job of providing a Fantasy atmosphere, grounded but still Fantasy. Imo the grounded atmosphere means that these races need to feel plausible as existing. We don't need exact minutiae of logistical systems and grain tally and taxes. But the world needs to feel sensible and consequential. Something that separates Fantasy from AoS. In AoS nothing really matters because the realms are effectively infinite. In Grudge Bearer you learn that there are 7 Dwarf Holds left in the Worlds Edge Mountains. Which provides a lot of weight to the expedition that is lead to reclaim one of them. In AoS, who gives a shit about reclaiming lost whatever, when you can just move away from the threat in your nearly infinite land. Why even fight over resources in that world that is effectively limitless?
>>97966489Sir that's bretonnia cool pic though
>>97966458AoS has been there for over a decade. If I wanted non grounded 40kesque fantasy slop I would have jumped in at some point. But I don't want AoS I want Fantasy.

>>97965918>TOW is less crunchy than previous version of WHFBHahahahaha .... no.
>>97966560Good stuff, I am glad you took the lamination pill. As for the book, it's 100% from the dwarf perspective.
>>97966513I read it on a long train trip, So I read it in one long sitting, it just felt like Thorpe wrote some Battle Reports and then constructed a narrative around those BR's, but it does lead to a rather flat character for everyone who isn't the MC, his Runesmith mentor, the Reckoner and the Rogue EngineerBarudin also feels almost overwhelmingly stereotypical for a Dwarf, but I guess that was kinda the point Thorpe was making in the book, outside of the Battler Scenes
How often are there new model drops for TOW? I feel like I don't see them very often.
>>97966560It's 100% dwarfs some Humans show up, but the interactions are entirely from the Dwarf perspective, the book also almost completely lacks Slayers, which makes it pretty different from other Dwarf-focused books for WF.kinda wish some Imperial Dwarfs showed up

Huh, I found an interesting tidbit. Halflings were especially active throughout the Empire during the Time of Three Emperors.Which just so happens to be the era TOW is set it. I'm starting to understand why they made that choice.
I'm going to say it because nobody else has had the courage to talk about this until now.The warriors of chaos, as an army, are defectively designed, woefully written, and utterly unfun in TOW. The army was built (or rather, egregiously erected) with the automatic assumption that you'd be bringing lmao2+dragons to every game and I think that sucks shit through a sandy straw. Daemon princes are absurdly awful, costing a farcical fuckload of points, only having four wounds, exploding expressly if they so much as touch a unit with a static CR higher than 0, chaos lords are retardedly restricted in the ways in which they can be used, with every "build" (a largely loathsome term, but briefly bear with me) that isn't the unnatural fortitude + AoMI + ogre blade or just giving them a dragon and nothing else because fuck you (though this changes nothing and not only is lmao2+dragons still meta, GW would go on to allow exalted champions to ride dragons, which is just staggeringly stupid) being nothing less than a categorical catastrophe, chaos warriors are so fucking terrible and so trash-tier and make me feel so sad I don't even want to do any alliterations for them, and holy fuck what the hell did they do to marks, they're mundanely mediocre at best and ferociously fecal at worst. And you wanna know what the worst part of all this crap is? It's not that GW did this intentionally, with the focus on chaos undivided being made clear from the start. It's not that what made the army special was either taken out back and shot (chaos lores, marks actually doing things, themed armies being fun and worthwhile, magic items being exclusive to marked heroes, etc) or simplified to the point of being banal and boring (just look at the absolute state of the eye of the gods table), no! These are bad! But what's worse? The fact that the army is "balanced", so nobody gives a shit that it's boring and is arguably in the worst state it has ever been in in terms of design and fun.
>>97966458I'm angry that nearly 40 years after their first appearance in art, we still haven't had rules or models for those Blanchian flying ships. They would have fit perfectly in warmaster, and I would have even reluctantly played end times if theyade an appearance in it.Bretonnian monstrous cavalry would have been nice as well.
>>97966741We 40k got big with the basedhammer crowd in the past couple of years, part of the usual cycle of fake nostalgia that led to the release of rogue trader and the realms of chaos books (they're some of the best stuff gw has released, though). The last editions of 40k have been so soulless that even the most loyal consoomers have begun to seek refuge in the past, and gw is clearly going to capitalise that.
>>97967512Yup, A4. I've made my own version of a dozen of those buildings by printing them and then tracing the fold lines onto foam core and thick card, they look great, but as mentioned a little bit on the smaller side. Scaling them up to 110-115% should probably do the trick.
>>97967790Honestly, yeah. I've been building a chaos warrior army and whenever I've looked at other people's unit choices it's all chaos dragons, T4 marauders, msu warhound spam and greater spawns of nurgle. The two most iconic units (warriors and knights) are lacklustre and only really work with very specific loadouts. Every list I've come up with feels boring, with very little incentive for conversions and customisation, completely divorced from what chaos was between 3rd and 6th editions. It's become a joyless, sterile army, a good fit for the drab new marauder and likely chaos warrior redesign.>Pic related, the sort of shit that a proper chaos army list should encourage you to build.
>>97968002Forgot my pic related like a buffoon
>>97968002Then play 3-6th edition with whoever you can convince to play it. Most people who play TOW obviously enjoy it or they wouldn’t be playing. Personally I think the FBIGO and back and forth pushes are great changes to the binary system we had before.
>>97968002>drab new marauder redesignGenuinely baffling take
>>97966513You sounded like you needed to convince yourself there for a second. Either way you’re not going to convince me fantasy is grounded with dwarves of all things. They’re one of the worst written races in fantasy and are a testament as to why lizardmen never got a single decent book
>>97968159He’s not alone with it thoughbeit. It’s not chaos it’s norsca. I probably would have found it cool back when Vinland saga wasn’t gay as hell but Viking shit is just tired.
>>97967847>even when GW flops their customers just move on to other GW productsGrim
>>97968175Marauder tribes are mostly Norscan? What’s the problem? You got Kurgans as models before but they are far less numerous than Norscan tribes.
>>97968175This is like getting upset at State Troops not being emblazoned with wolf motifs all over.
>>97968279I’m tired from work so I’ll just sum it up as thus;>I don’t like cadia Iykyk.
>>97968175Most newfags are too young to have lived back when chaos and the Norse were separate armies, for the average zoomer they're one and the same.
>>97968292As long as you know you’re in the tiny minority, like or dislike whatever you want. Just a terrible take regardless.
>>97968306They were never their own separate army. Existing as mercenaries and being your own army are two different things.
>>97968159No muscularity! Lame! Too much clothing! Gay!
>>97968156>Then play 3-6th editionBold of you to assume I don't already do. I'm just dipping my toes into ToW because some mates are enjoying it and wanted to share the fun with me.It's a serviceable system with some good things and just as many badly executed ones. I'll agree with you, FBIGO is a nice change, my main gripe is with the army lists and lack of flexibility in them. It feels like the rules team isn't particularly familiar with some of the armies, I simply don't find myself fantasising about silly or thematic army compositions with ToW like I did with earlier editions. At the end of the day, it leads to fun afternoons with people whose company I enjoy and that's enough to keep it around. I won't pretend that makes it a great game, though.

>>97968002One of my biggest hopes for a TOW second edition is a Chaos combined army. Leave that orderly bullshit with every chaos faction being forced into its own seperate category to 40k and AoS
>>97968531It'd be very profitable too, as Beastmen, Daemon and warrior (perhaps even dwarfs if they come back on sale) players would end up buying more shot to expand their armies.I'm not a fan of fomo boxes, but this would be a chance to release mixed battalion boxes; three existing regiments and maybe a new character to boost sales. Also, give us reasons to use the least popular units like trolls and ogres, there's a lot to work with, honestly.
>>97968560It would feel forced. Also if they do that one rumored thing where they soup slot of factions like wood elves and high elves in second edition then I’d be turned off from the game. Soup always bring out the worst for faction identities.

beastmen fatigue
>>97967790>are defectively designed, woefully writtenThis applies to most armies (if not all) in TOW. I think the core issue is mostly with the competitive culture around modern wargames. The problem with games that are mechanically just hard math is that they can be solved and with the Internet they usually get solved pretty fast, you can play the game virtually on warhall to optimize the shit out of your army before you invest time and money on models. Somethings will always be superior to other stuff."Narrative" games fix this mostly but then the hardest part is to find like minded opponents.

With him, he brought the Staff of Jade, an artifact acquired during the looting of the Lizardman city of Huatl. The staff became a heirloom of the city's lords, a symbol of power and security, and remained so for centuries, but eventually the Lizardmen required the use its hidden powers. Lord Mazdamundi himself gathered an army of innumerable size and led the forces of Lustria to reclaim this most ancient of artifacts.>In a titanic and bloody battle that would become known as the Battle for Antoch Plains, the Lizardmen were able to defeat the Bretonnian army that rode out to face them, razing Antoch and reclaiming the Staff of Jade.
