It's a "real game" in the sense that you can make literally anything into a "real game" by re-skinning Powered by the Apocalypse (which is what CATastrophe's rules were).

As to if anyone had ever actually PLAYED it... who the fuck knows? Probably not. The only stories I remember ever hearing about it were the "obviously fake" kind.
