>>97965401>why has the thread been gone for 3 daysWanted to see how long it would take for someone else to make it.>TQIndefinite hiatus, scheduling is a bitch with families and night shifts. Last session was me running AV Expanded (BB+TiO+AV) for four friends, they're about to go against Volluk (they don't know about this (or about the gas trap on his door)).
I am not affiliated with the game below. I just earnestly find it interesting.https://gamefound.com/en/projects/succubus-publishing/last-arc-tactics-analogueFree public beta version, available in the page above: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/z1hkgs3aak5w9u7ea5r33/LATA-Corebook-Layout-DEMO.pdf?rlkey=nwtkrovtsftrklxewgf6yh1rc&e=1&st=qgklpp6i&dl=0?Last Arc: Tactics Analogue puts on a JRPG-themed skin, but even a cursory inspection reveals that this is straight-up D&D 3.5/Pathfinder 1e. It is a d20-based, 20-level game with Str/Dex/Con/Int/Wis/Cha (slightly renamed), races with a +2/+2/−2 spread, classes with 4/6/8 + Int modifier skills, feats at every even-numbered level (including old friends like Skill Focus, Improved Initiative, Precise Shot, and Combat Casting), a 3×3 alignment grid, the exact same XP table as D&D 3.5, and CR-based monsters. An unironic, earnest chef's kiss to the people brave enough to put a D&D 3.5/Pathfinder 1e heartbreaker out there. Never once does the game or the crowdfunding campaign mention D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder 1e, so this is more "If you know, you know."There are some 4e-isms sprinkled here and there. Skills use trainings, not skill points. Attacks go up against Fortitude, Reflex, and Will... and yet, unlike in 4e, Reflex also acts as AC. Characters can use a second wind to regain a quarter of their maximum hit points, but unlike in 4e, there are no healing surges, and it is a minor action.Character math is vastly different. Initiative is based on a single die, with the die size dependent on class. Feats are not quite what a D&D 3.5/Pathfinder 1e veteran may be used to, even if they have identical names. Spells are original, and use an MP system. Equipment is also radically different. Monsters are simple-ish; they look like they should be quick to run, though they are not quite tactically deep.I think that this game has enough significant divergences from D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder 1e to stand on its own. What do you think?
>>97965664As for me, I felt like a sleeper agent awakening as I scrolled through the PDF and realized that, past the superficial JRPG skin, this is a D&D 3.5/Pathfinder 1e heartbreaker.
I was surprised Edna didn't bake a new thread, even if only to repost his reddit post.
>>97965547I would have, but I don't know how to properly format the OP and didn't want to get yelled at.
>>97966095I thought Deer made new threads?
2eHow does Automatic Rune Progression work for Property Runes? It feels like once you start buying property runes, you become married to your weapon which is what I though ARP was trying to fix.
>>97965664Is it good? I mean, are the changes good ideas in terms of creating a 3-aboo gaming experience, at least as good as what you would have homebrewed if some mad spirit had possessed you to do it yourself?
Is Pathfinder 2e balanced enough to run as an open table West Marches game at the FLGS?
>>97967480I do not know. I would have to sit down and play or GM the game myself.
>>97967486I guess it depends on how gamey the wilderness is? PF2E's biggest weakness in any kind of sandbox or exploration is that the math is so tight you can't have players encounter shit wildly out of their level and expect them to survive and run away, unless you're willing to run all those encounters as Skill Challenges. But if you go the full MMO route with distinctly levelled zones it should work fine. Some people may tell you to use Proficiency Without Level but that is just a stopgap and requires a lot of GM fiddling to work.
>>97965401>TQSpoilers for Seven Dooms for Sandpoint. We just assembled some allies for what is potentially the final fight in Seven Dooms for Sandpoint (PF2e). We recruited the Runelords, the Church, the ghouls beneath Sandpoint and some mercenaries from Magnimar as well as random townsfolk our Dwarf fighter recruited as cannon fodder by crafting and arming them with expensive equipment they get to keep if they survive. We also talked with the Red Bishop about reinforcing the seal at the bottom of the Pit (dungeon crawl area for most of the campaign) containing the demon lord Uvaglor using a ritual they taught us (was obviously flawed by design, but our sorcerer caught the flaw and perfected it in secret so we wouldn't accidentally create another World Wound) My character (a lvl 11 Champion of Shelyn, basically looks like Prince Charming from Shrek) recruited the church and was named its successor by Father Abstalar and made a deal with Liralarue for her freedom to aid us in the ritual and I got a pretty cool +2 striking demonbane greatsword that was keeping her sealed (we only released her as a last resort since we have to make sure the ritual we're doing succeeds and need all the casters we can get). Our next session could very well be our last and its that sorta point where we could succeed or could result in a bad ending since Red Bishop is bringing the bulk of their forces outside the Pit (supposedly they want to avert disaster they're supposed to bring by giving us the means to stop it, but it's difficult to trust a demonic looking mothman) They have 4 vrocks and an adult black dragon as their known forces, so could potentially be a tpk if and when they turn on us.
>>97967729>But if you go the full MMO route with distinctly levelled zones it should work fineThat's basically what got me into it so yeah.
I'm going to be running a solo campaign for a friend who's been struggling to inhabit his characters/get in the mindset of playing a character (His own issue he wants to correct) in PF2E (Because he likes the system) but I'm trying to figure how best to adjust for a Solo player. I've given him all the power variants (Dual Class, Free Archetype, Ancestral Paragon.) but should I also add in some Lone Wolf-Style things like... Has 5 actions in a turn, not 3. MAP reduced by 2?
>>97968029Does he have to be completely alone in-game? If you gave him an animal companion or some NPC followers to boss around at least he could flank and use some tactics
>>97968331I could give him some minions the gameplay portion should be fun it's mostly an exercise in getting him to inhabit his character. I could say "Make a second character with no extra rules, he's your follower, you'll control his actions too."
>>97968339By inhabit, you mean like roleplaying? If you have a follower it's also someone who he can talk to for roleplaying. If it's just an animal companion it's okay for him to control it but if it's an actual NPC it might be detrimental to have him control another character in terms of slipping into the role of the character. Maybe you could have the player give verbal commands like roleplaying to the NPC that travels with him, and then you as DM control the NPC trying to follow his orders? Normally it's one action point to "Request" a friend NPC do something but you could just make it free. This is just how I think I would do it if my goal was to maximize the amount of roleplaying from the player
>>97968387Yes, the goals to get him to inhabit his character and feel comfortable roleplaying. He's oddly very well built for the old school RPG crowd because he often just sees his characters as stats and a vehicle to Play the game. In fact I wouldn't even have offered this if he didn't tell me it bothered him and he wanted to do more roleplaying.

For those of you who've played Rise of the Runelords and/or Curse of the Crimson Throne, what did you like and dislike about those APs? I'm thinking of running one or the other as my next game, although I wonder if they'll convert well to 2e or not.
1eHow does battlemind link work? you have to cast it before combat knowing there's going to be a combat but immediately enough so the minute per level doesn't fizzle? how does the "you both make attack rolls and both use the higher of the two dice for your attack rolls"? like I'm attacking the enemy, I roll and my partner rolls too and I pick the highest result? and this for every attack, mine or theirs?
>>97969325that spell is badly written and doesn't function unless you make up houserules for how it works. It seems like the "intention" of the designers for the spell is that you and your buddy are going at the same time, but because it says you roll the same initiative "before modifiers" you're going to be on a different initiative, so attacking at "the same time" doesn't really make sense. I guess the faster one can just delay their action until their ally's turn and attack. You could also houserule that the slower person can just declare that they will attack the same target as you and then you can both do your rolls and then just like write down the results for later, and if the target dies or they can't attack it for some reason on their own turn they just can't do anything on their turn. There's also the issue with different numbers of attacks, like if one of you has higher BAB or two weapon fighting or something you aren't going to have the same number of attacks so I think in that case you would only get the double rolling on attacks until one of you runs out of attacks per turn. Ultimately once you cut through all the bad design the effect of the spell is just "you and one ally get advantage on initiative and on attack rolls if you both attack the same target" but way more convoluted. I don't think it's worth giving your DM a headache trying to figure out how it works
Have any of you played with the mythic rules/feats for PF2e? Are they fun? Also do they overwrite free archetypes and if so, are they worth it? My DM is thinking of messing around with it eventually for higher level play.
post your characters
>>97970634Fuck off this isn't an OC thread
>Mind Smith archetype >you can form weapons with your mind!>but it still takes up hand/s lmaoWhat's the purpose of this thing, it doesn't add any unique stuff, it functions the same as just buying a normal weapon, but you spend class feats instead of gold?
>>97970791Paizo massively overvalues "not being able to lose your weapon/armor", and figure people will pay for useless shit if it at least sounds cool. Mind Smith is an archetype for people who liked Soulknife and don't care about it it is worth the feats being invested or not, just like Solarian is a class for those people, and how they keep making natural armor be complete ass for no reason.
>>97970628Haven't played with it, but reading Mythic rules, I'd mostly just unironically rather have Free Archetype for the vast majority of situations.>Mythic Points at baseline are arguably an overall downgrade from Hero Points>Mythic Callings overly narrow and restrictive pieces of shit that just suck immense ass>the Mythic Feats from 2-10 are such fucking nothings that several classes basically cannot meaningfully interact with them at all>Mythic Proficiency is one of the worst designed mechanics Paizo has introduced>Mythic enemy scaling is fucked, and mostly only serves to make casters feel worse while basically not affecting martials at all>Mythic Destinies (the 12+ archetypes) are the only actually kind of good part of it, some of them are genuinely cool, you could probably tweak them to work without mythicMaybe it's different in actual play, but I rate it "dogshit for mostly the opposite reasons 1e mythic is"
>>97970628It easily made me the most disappointed in 2e, right there with Vindicator (though I still have a softspot for). It genuinely screwed over my longterm campaign plans. Seriously, War of Immortals is just a bad book no matter how you slice it. Fumbling Mythic Rules so much makes it a really bad offer. There just not enough power to it and it is so limited.Just work with the Mythic Destiny archetypes and try to figure out a way to grant more Mythic Points than the 3 cap you are limited to.
>>97971022>>97971427That bad huh? Yeah, I figured after seeing the nothingburger feats and not being able to use mythic points the same way as hero point. My DM simply just wants to give it a try RAW and if its shit, tweak it or throw it out entirely. Main reason they're even doing it to begin with is because Revenge of the Runelords has a bunch of that mythic bullshit baked in. It also feels like shit since we're changing our characters over to mythic ones and losing our free archetype feats with the shitty 2-10 'mythic' feats taking their place, ruining certain builds and the only way to get archetypes is by giving up class feats. I just hope after the first session our DM sees how shit the mythic system is and either scraps it entirely or we just play a different campaign that doesn't rely as heavily on it.
>>97970745Fuck off we can talk about our characters in Paizo games if we want to
PF2e I want to make a caster villain that uses blood-themed spells for My party to kill. Are there any good spells/monster abilities/class features I should look at?I'm thinking of just reflavouring a bunch of RAW spells to do bleed/slashing damage.
I am on my fourth Abom Vaults character AMAunrelated but what religions are allowed in Cheliax, I know Asmodeus is the state religion, Zon-Kuthon is allowed because Nidal is their closest ally, and Iomedae, despite her priests causing problems, is still somewhat allowed because she used to be Chelish before ascending and there are a handful of temples to her left.
>>97970859>Paizo massively overvalues "not being able to lose your weapon/armor"Except in the case of the Soulforger, which, to this day, is still one of the better archetype dedication feats around.https://2e.aonprd.com/Archetypes.aspx?ID=102
>>97973445If you want to stick to official stuff, you can look at feats and abilities from Bloodrager and Sanguimancer. None of them are particularly powerful, but they can give you some ability ideas for your bad guy.For spells, there isn't a lot that specifically causes Bleed damage outright except for Blood Vendetta (which is solid). You also have Flense, Bloodspray Curse, and Bone Flense (not to be confused with Flense). If you don't mind dipping into 3rd party, Magic+ has the Haemothurge, which I'm using in a current campaign and has some fun abilities/feats, as well as some other blood themed spells (including a pretty jank and busted one called Blood Marionette).>>97973624This is from the 1st edition splat, but I can't imagine a lot has changed:"The worship of other deities is not forbidden in Cheliax; as long as members of other faiths obey the laws set forth by Asmodeus and don’t oppose the Prince of Darkness or House Thrune, they are permitted to worship as they please. Thus, temples to Abadar, Erastil, Iomedae, Pharasma, and Shelyn can be found throughout the land, but all pale in comparison to the Asmodean cathedrals in whose shadow they are allowed to stand."So it'd seem they allow quite a lot, if they pay the piper. A later section mentions there's a big sect of the Green Faith near Corentyn in Anferita Wood because the Grand Druid of the Faith lives there, and nobody seems to give a shit because they're currently not doing anything to oppose thrune.
where the FUCK does a wigga find 3pp pf1e in a mega anymore?????the pf1e repository is just fuckin GONE
What's your favorite Hellknight order?
>>97974867Pike, love me some MonHun. If only their favoured weapon wasn't so ass.
>>97967692Then what is there to discuss...
>>97968510Maybe it's fun if your set your expectations to "can I solve this puzzle" and not "I want to play as a hero".
>>97974939If you're playing a Ruffian Rogue in 2e with Free Archetype I could see using your Class feats for the Mauler archetype and your free archetype for the Hellknight dedication to make it work but that is a bit of a mess there, yeah. Longspear is kind of a bad one, but then there's always just using a non-favored weapon since Pike is a minor order, and you just use Nail for their stuff in 2e if you like.
Playing a Kingmaker game where my character is part of the Basri family (Half-elven diplomats in Taldor) Accordingly, elven culture and religion comes up in a bit more detail. So I'm checking the wiki and there is just fucking NOTHING for Yuelral or Findeladalra. Just really jack shit. Findeladlara's wiki page outright contradicts itself and is completely unsubstantiated on its second sentence about "innovation".So I dig deeper and find there's five pages about her in Dreamers of the Nameless Spires. What do I find? Oh, hey! Five pages of her being incredibly traditionalist and disliking innovation (in line with the blurbs about her in "Pathfinder Chronicles: Gods and Magic", "Inner Sea Gods", and "Elves of Golarion"). And the part that really just annoys me is this one paragraph at the end."Some of Findeladlara's more traditional followers have been a bit too quick to brand this new development as heresy."I guaran-fucking-tee you that they're setting up Findeladlara and Nocticula in a lesbian girlboss relationship. Findeladlara has fucking nothing for almost two decades beyond roughly three paragraphs and now she gets a five page breakdown and "Guys, I know she's all about tradition and preservation of elven culture, to the point that she makes her clerics photocopy her holy book by hand, but she's also going to be a free spirit and friends with our super special Redeemer Queen!"
>>97981237And in case you thought I was being hyperbolic about it being three paragraphs, here they are. Four total written paragraphs, with two of them being word for word almost exactly the same.It just frustrates me because there's so much Paizo writes that has interesting potential that gets completely wasted. Then the insult to injury with "we only cared about this now because we want to make her a lesbian."
>>97965401>TQSpoilers for Tyrant's Grasp I guess technically? We're inside Roslar's Tomb after being transported there after some spooky bullshit ritual happened, and things are starting to get weird. Psychopomp skeletons that shouldn't exist because as far as anyone is aware, outsiders just sort of dissipate and return to their home plane when killed. Also some skeleton-piloting bugs and a bunch of weird little chittering blue goblin-looking fucks.>>97974679Go to the Sharethread, it's in the archive, and figure it out from there. It's gone from the OP because retarded niggers kept making it very public that the books were just out there for you to get right now easily for free.
>>97965401Does the persistent mental damage from Iron Repercussions stack with Hobgoblins agonising rebuke? I want to mental damage maxx together with Dandy's tut-tut. My other thinking was braggart Swashbuckler as a base.
>>97982627If they are the same damage type, only the highest applies.>If you would gain more than one persistent damage condition with the same damage type, the higher amount of damage overrides the lower amount.https://2e.aonprd.com/Conditions.aspx?ID=86Think of it like if you are on fire, you can't get double on fire.
Please tell me I'm not crazy, Recall Knowledge is pretty damn good, isn't it?It's our very first time playing Pathfinder, and I absolutely love using Recall Knowledge to be fair, I am a ranger, so I just often end up having spare actions left on my turn. But the rest of the party don't seem to be too fond of it, despite me trying to convince them to use it more. Luckily I have good stats in survival and nature, but for example a few combats ago we needed a religion check for it and the Paladin said it was a waste of time, after he failed the check.
>>97983178Without any other buffs, it's a fine option to burn an action on, especially with a GM that appreciate doing some monster describing. It does take some time and "uhhh, ummm, lets see here...", so I do get why people not like it. It takes table time and can easily leave you high and dry, or even less since there's always the chance you get FALSE info (remember, its Secret by default and Crit Fails give you bad info). As such, you want some additional feats if you going big on it.Also as a Ranger, feel free to take Monster Hunter. Underrated feat for that.https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=4863
>>97981237>>97981290I mean, for fuck's sake, the same book has Myrna listed as both Nikos Surtova's daughter AND Choral's daughter, and she's listed as having married both.
>think skeletons are comically weak with 4 HP>give them 10 HP instead because I need grunt enemies for the dungeon but can't have them just be one-tapped>it takes a 5-person party of level 1 characters nearly an hour just to kill 3 skeletons because they almost exclusively have slashing and piercing weapons, spells that deal mental damage, and spells that deal fire or electricity damage>it takes them over 3 and a half hours just to get through 4 rooms, which only have 2-3 skeletons each>can't even finish the dungeon by the end of the session because of just how much time this took themFucking hell dude
>>97983742I legit said last thread the reason they have 4 HP is because they are basically immortal against non-bludgeoning weapons. They totally are designed around to teach people how impactful resistances are. They should NOT get an HP bump to compete with zombies and shamblers, you WILL make an absurdly tanky dude for a Level 1 party!
>>97983804Learned the hard way, but I do quite like it like this. They're just on that fine in between line of being threatening enough but still relatively light work for mooks. I gave most of them different weapons, so they were able to collect a warhammer from a skeleton they defeated and a morningstar they found in a treasure room, and fared slightly better afterwards. Didn't get to finish it by the end of the session though.
2eIs there a way to set flat dcs on spells as a player in Forge? Or is it just something I'm going to have to remember to look up on spells given to me by magic items?
>I've absolutely been loving that as a disabled person, I can play a disabled character in PF2e without having to get extra sourcebooks>i have friends i know who are not into woke culture>they still love all the stuff>It was hilarious to me when the Core Rulebook first released and I saw a couple of Amazon reviews talking about how "political" and "woke" the game was.hmm, interesting
>>97983241Our GM is the only one of us who has experience with the game and he told us we can just ask for their stats. So I really like to find out stuff like resistances, vulnerabilities, HP, movespeed etc, just because it makes planning during combat so much better and more fun, in my opinion.Just the other session we had an encounter, where I found out that the enemies we were fighting had crazy high resistance against non-magic attacks, without knowing that I would have never switched to my magical dagger and gone into melee range and would have just been dead weight the whole encounter, without knowing it.>Also as a Ranger, feel free to take Monster Hunter. Underrated feat for that.Oh that's neat
>>97981237>>97981290>I guaran-fucking-tee you that they're setting up Findeladlara and Nocticula in a lesbian girlboss relationshipWho else would she date, anon? There aren't really any prominent male gods in the setting that could be chosen. Kurgess is like, the *only* guy that has sex appeal in the entirety of the Inner Sea, and they've been really playing around with the idea of him getting with Milani.Which, of course, will never happen because heterosexual sex is verboten in PF2e.
>>97984402Who are you quoting? Redditors?
>>97983742>Fire/ElectricitySkeletons aren't immune or resistant to either of those damage types>No bludgeoning weaponsOkay and? Your party has at least one guy that's playing some flavor of martial, and that guy has a damage line of Weapon Dice+5(Str)+3(Power Attack) so he's killing the skeletons in 1-3 rounds regardless even doing it solo.
>>97982627Yes, they stack. Agonizing Rebuke doesn't inflict persistent mental damage, it does its own thing that procs on turn start and only ends when the enemy stops being frightened or moves away.I'd say also look into Bard as a base. Dirge of Doom's clause that Frightened cant drop below 1 is for any frightened, so itd help keep your Rebuke damage going after you Demoralize, which is probably better than ending the Demoralize immunity on someone. But you could also grab it as an archetype.
>>97985988Oh, yeah, you actually right. My mind autocorrected in persistent when it isn't, just a reoccurring tick.
>>97984392There should be a way. Spells you cast use your personal Save DC and items should be able to be edited in their action description to have a set DC.
>>97985475or, maybe, get this, he's playing pf2 where skeletons are indeed resistant to all that stuff and there's no power attack
>>97987369>and there's no power attackquick correction here: power attack does exist, it is called Vicious Strike as of the remaster. But it's not a universal Combat Feat (only on Fighter and 2 other archetypes), only adds an extra die of damage, and doesn't apply to any additional attacks done outside the initial swing, so far less universally useful than its 1e equivalent.
>>97985475We're playing 2e.>Your party has at least one guy that's playing some flavor of martialA champion, a magus, and a swashbuckler. Admittedly part of it was that they kept insisting on their swords, but all of them have shields which could've been used for shield bashes, the weakest of which would've been 1d4+3. The magus realized this during the 4th fight and did that instead of swinging his sword, but it still took quite a while. The champion picked up a warhammer from one of the skeletons in the 3rd room and one-tapped a skeleton in the 4th room. The summoner grabbed a morningstar from a treasure room, but for some reason none of the melee warriors have opted to wield it. Ultimately I agree with you that it was and should've been easier than they chose to make it.>>97987369>>97988477 beat Me to it.
My main damage types are Bludgeoning and Fire (I'm an unarmed striking Summoner). What monster is my kryptonite?
>>97988537Anything that can eat you cause you can't cut yourself out(also ghosts and spirits but they resist all physical stuff anyway)
>>97988558You know, I should have my character carry around a dagger just in case.
>>97988527Maybe they could use the sword pommel as an improvised club weapon?
>>97988604I think shield bashing (again, ALL of them had shields, which were equipped during every single fight) would have been more effective. Martials are proficient with shield bash, but not improvised weapons.
>>97970791Mindsmith is straight up a worse Soulforger in pretty much every way.
>>97988558an eidolon can be unmanifested to escape from any swallowed whole shenanigans so you really just need to make sure your main body Summoner pays the mandatory skill tax to get Legendary in Acrobatics because there's no fucking way you're escaping a grapple by punching your way out and your Strength is pretty much guaranteed to be terrible. This isn't a summoner exclusive issue though, and it's a broader problem with 2e that literally every wizard and witch and sorcerer is expected to be a master circus performer because there's exactly 3 ways to escape grapples and only one of them is feasible for half the classes in the game with unarmored defense
Stupid question, /pgg/. I'm playing a 2e flame oracle, just hit level 3, and I'm picking spells. Would I be able to use my spell-swap to move Heal from 1st-rank to 2nd-rank, make the now-2nd-rank Heal my signature spell for that rank, and then have my 1st-rank Breathe Fire my signature spell for rank 1? Is that kosher?Since signature spells can be cast at a lower level just as well as a higher one, this effectively means I give up my rank 2 signature spell (most of which are useless anyways at level 3 since i can't downcast a spell whose base rank is 2) in exchange for having effectively two rank 1 signature spells, which is fine for me, I like the idea of a signature offensive and signature defensive rank 1 spell anyway.
>>97990340Nah, I'm a summoner with a +4 to Str at level 4 with a +12 Athletics and Titan Wrestler. Never give up on your dreams.
>pf1eI was looking at the PF1e antipaladin and one class feature stood out to me: fiendish boon (fiendish servant), which lets you have a permanent summon monster on your side, i.e. permanent succubus at level 11+, which is also when it becomes advanced. Naturally the idea of a succubus girlfriend tickles my fancy, but I'm fairly sure it isn't terribly amazing compared to what other classes can (casters can probably bind as many succubi as they want, among other things) but it amuses me. Is it worth staying in antipaladin 11 for it?Also, I noticed an alternate capstone for it - tip of the spear, which makes smite good capable of affecting anything. Sounds good for an antivillain kind of guy. Of course, it's antipaladin 20...And finally, the drow favored class bonus for antipaladin is +1/4 cruelties. Is that per use of touch of corruption or does ti just give you more cruelty options?Side note: Sacred Servant Paladin lets you cast call celestial ally as a spell like ability and I want to flavor it as an aasimar calling on their divine parent for help. Would feats (Augment Calling) and items that boost this ability (Caller's Feather) increase the HD of the creature you can call? The plan is to boost greater planar ally to 22HD to call forth a Solar.
>>97988477so there's no power attack in 2e. glad we cleared that up. next time be more humble and don't contradict me for no reason.
2e question:So the Wyvern animal companion, being a weirdo-ass Adventure Path option, has this as a Support Benefit:>Support Benefit Your wyvern whips its stinger at your foes. Until the start of your next turn, your Strikes that damage a creature in your wyvern’s reach also deal 1d6 persistent poison damage. If your wyvern is nimble or savage, the persistent damage increases to 2d6.This is fine and normal, even stuff like Bird has persistent damage support benefits. The problems begin with the Drake Rider archetype's War Rider feat:>Your dragon’s constant breath threatens your foes. While in this stance, your dragon companion has an aura in a 5-foot emanation. Each creature that starts its turn in the aura takes the damage listed under the dragon’s support benefit with a basic Reflex save against your mount’s Athletics DC.https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=8106The problem here comes from>basic save with persistent damageSomething that normally doesn't happen in the game. How the hell do you rule this?
>>97991185Why wouldn't you just roll the damage and halve it (rounding down) as normal? The only difference with persistent damage is that they have to keep rolling it each turn until they recover, but the damage itself generally works the same way. That's all persistent damage is: damage that you need to re-roll every round.Rules-wise, the aura is the same as somebody pricking you with a poisoned needle each round. Each time the opponent starts their turn in the aura it makes a new save and has a new chance to take persistent poison damage. If it's more damage than they're already taking, then it overrides the existing damage (since persistent damage doesn't stack with itself). If it's the same amount of damage or less, nothing happens. At the end of each turn they take the damage and get a single flat check to remove the damage as normal, and then next round they do it all over again. For example:>I start my turn in your dragon's aura and succeed my save. 1d6 (halved) persistent poison damage is applied to me.>At the end of my turn, I take the damage and fail my recovery check. I still have 1d6 (halved) persistent poison damage that I need to deal with.>At the beginning of my next turn, I crit fail the save. The (halved) damage is now replaced with (doubled) damage, because the doubled damage is higher.>I end my turn and take 1d6 (doubled) poison damage. Maybe this time I succeed my save and remove it afterwards. And so on.
>>97990457Yes, you can absolutely do that anon. Technically what you do is take Heal as your 2nd Rank Signature spell, then you swap 1st Rank Heal for another spell and can choose to make any 1st rank spell you know your signature spell. But the end result is exactly what you want, even if the details are slightly different.
PF2eLooking at the Sanguimancer (https://2e.aonprd.com/Archetypes.aspx?ID=321), do the Sanguimancy Hit Points work similarly enough to regular Temporary Hit Points that they absorb damage as well?If you're a sanguimancer and you have 30 HP, and 10 sanguimancy HP, would damage first affect the SHP before your regular HP? Or is SHP just supposed to be a mana pool with a poor name and explanation?
>>97991666They are a type of Temp HP, so they absorb damage first like normal temp hp does. Their main difference is that you can spend them on other things, they are hard capped at double your level and you recover them through treat wounds. That said its still kind of a headache because they dont point out how they interact with temp hp at all. They say they follow the same rules as temp hp but...if I have 3 sanguimancy hp and cast rank 2 false life, do I now have 10 sanguimancy hp? Do i have 10 temp hp and no sanguimancy? Or do I have 10 temp hp and 3 sanguimancy hp?Its kind of a mess and it doesnt help the archetype is shit too. My GM just ruled all temp HP are sanguimancy points and left it at that.
>>97991794>My GM just ruled all temp HP are sanguimancy points and left it at thatI think I'll go with this. I'm using it as a reference for an NPC, but one of My players has a character who's obsessed with uncovering and unlocking magical power, so if he meets this NPC and interacts with her he may end up choosing to learn the blood magic stuff from her - in which case I have to know what they're supposed to be like.>the archetype is shit tooYeah honestly really underwhelming for the concept. Only 4 feats if you exclude the initial dedication, and for what they are they aren't that great. I gave the NPC (level 3) a watered-down, level-scaled version of the final ability to give her some oomph if the party decides to kick her ass, but honestly I think I'd give it to the PC (for an appropriate cost and training time) with similar restrictions and let it grow as he levels up if he wanted.
>>97991827Honestly the problem is that the feats all seem balanced for the fact the PC will be swimming in sanguimancy hit points and that just...wont ever happen? If they refreshed like a Barbarian's do every fight and you had more ways to actually spend them itd be fine. As is, the best you can do is a big memey shield block 1/day and that's kind of it. And thats only if the enemy doesn't hit you and drain all your sanguimancy HP first!Cool concept, terrible execution.
>>97991853Hell, the ONE ability that actually gives you a way to restore them has whatever you gain from it only last a round.
Man, I gotta bitch about the Chrysopoet Alchemist from Team+'s Alchemist+. This one is genuinely *baffling* at the goal of it.>Combine Alchemist + Kineticist>Replace Advanced Alchemy with Transmutation Circles>only get 2 + INT at base, expands with level and things that boost Advanced Alchemy numbers>Circles must be prepared with an element and 1-4 impulses beforehand>You spend an action to activate a Circle, turning you into a Kineticist while you are in it, with INT-based Kinetic Blast>Circle disappears after 1 minute or you use an Overflow impulse (level 9 lets you expend 2 VVs to keep the circle up instead).Essentially you gave Alchemist spell slots. But...to a Magus's degree, complete with only have Master in their DCs. You have no way to gain impulses other than through leveling, which without a 16th level feat, can only be taken if they are half your Alchemist level. And it eats away at your Versatile Vials and Research Field. It is genuinely lesser than the sum of its parts. As a big Fullmetal Alchemist fan, that which this archetype is aping from and a big reason why I acquired the book, I'm left hideously disappointed in it. You might as well just get Wizard/Witch Dedication if you want a magical alchemist! Or just wait for Runesmith.Everything else about the book is pretty neat, standard Team+ stuff. But Chrysopoet is so fucked a concept.>>97991321I guess that is the simple solution, it just weird to think about given how persistent damage tends to only kick in as a Failure effect on a save. Probably overthought AP jank.
>>97992045No classes are supposed to be getting uses per day based on stats anymore. Alchemist is made wrong from the start. Team+ can't change enough to fix that.
>>97992045I honestly don't actually know why people gas up Teams+ so much, every time I look at their stuff I'm mostly left thoroughly underwhelmed. The one time I was actually left with something I was super excited by was the class archetype from Clerics+ being everything I ACTUALLY wanted a "martial cleric" to be (and then some). On the other hand, I guess the fact that they're just doing the thing Paizo will seemingly never bother doing, IE "meaningfully expand on existing classes", counts for something, even if a lot of it is still paizo-grade mediocre page fillers.
>>97992117I don't think I would have TOO MUCH a problem with the limited Transmutation Circles were it not that it is using Impulses, not normal spells. Impulses aren't balanced around being a limited resource, they have a damage cut from them because Kineticist can keep spamming them. But Circles ARE limited and you don't get any kind of damage boost to compensate. They gave you a mechanic with the downsides of B O T H, on a class that already struggles to figure out what to do on the average turn.Creating a gish class that doesn't have any actual synergies between magic and martial is a really bad mistake I wouldn't expect anyone this many years creating 3pp content would make. At least the Matter Blasts can be combined with Quick Alchemy nonsense but you aren't getting a lot except with the poison one. They gave you all the hard work of being a State Alchemist but you don't even get a salary or the ability to commit war crimes and sacrifice Iran for fun.>>97992130Team+ content is definitely a lot more cool than actually functional. I tend to not give Paizo too much shit for "not supporting older classes" as they do provide plenty of feats and mechanics for them, just nothing on the level of "yeah here's an entire new mechanic and feature swapping" like Team+ routinely does. I definitely respect what they provide to the design space of classes, but the actual mechanics a lot of the time are either novelties or as bad as typical Paizo slop a lot of the time.
>>97990847>Is it worth staying in antipaladin 11 for it?As opposed to what? It's not the main draw of the class of course but it's a nice boon. >Is that per use of touch of corruption or does ti just give you more cruelty options?More cruelty options. This is deliberately unlike LoH where your mercies are cumulative. >Side note: Sacred Servant Paladin lets you cast call celestial ally as a spell like ability and I want to flavor it as an aasimar calling on their divine parent for help. Would feats (Augment Calling) and items that boost this ability (Caller's Feather) increase the HD of the creature you can call? The plan is to boost greater planar ally to 22HD to call forth a Solar. There was a FAQ to say that Augment Summoning works with SLAs so this should also work.

>>97992831At least some people there have enough brain to tell him to actually READ the rules.
>>97992045>>97992192While I agree the Chrysopoet is fiddly as all hell and too complex for what it's trying to do, I don't think either of you read the Archetype thoroughly if you think the Circles are that limited. From level 1 you can just spend a Versatile Vial to Render Circle to recreate a Circle you used during the last minute. You can do this even with a Versatile Vial you create (meaning you don't spend one) but then the circle lasts until the end of your next turn, rather than a minute. This means once you've actually spend a Transmutation Circle to Render Circle during a fight, you don't need to spend another circle at all to keep things going, just VVs. You will only spend multiple circles in a fight if you want to switch your Element or Impulses around. And once the fight is over, you can create a vial and render circle as your exploration activity to keep one circle you used "on loop" until your next fight. Matter Expenditure at 9th level is basically just saving you an action to Render Circle again by asking you to pay an extra VV.So its not as limited as you think, but it's still pretty bad overall because you can't get a proper aura (it's either just your space, or an area on the floor), and you can't get junctions, and until level 16 all your Impulses have to be half your level.I think the only really neat thing is Explosive Infusion, because 2 or 3 actions to use Impulse Attack to deliver a Bomb+Kinetic Blast is a very good deal...just not worth the headache of the whole archetype.
>>97993089>himIt's a tranny actually I checked it's posts
>>97993599> And once the fight is over, you can create a vial and render circle as your exploration activity to keep one circle you used "on loop" until your next fight. Matter Expenditure at 9th level is basically just saving you an action to Render Circle again by asking you to pay an extra VV.Okay I'm pretty sure that's unintentional cause that is very unintuitive. How does that even work logistically, are you just constant bleeding alchemical essence on a big circle? Pretty sure it's supposed to be like the old Mutagenic Flashback feature, you can re-up a circle you already used once in cases of emergency/sustain, but not indefinitely. And quite frankly while I criticize the limitations in general, 6 circles would usually be enough to get through the early game day as long you aren't spamming Overflows like crazy. And Efficient Alchemy can increase the amounts some if it really are too squished. The problem is more WHY is there a limitation in the first place when you aren't any better an alchemist or a kineticist? The idea that even your Kinetic Blast is tied to a limited resource is actually absurd, why?? Just because you finally have an INT-scaling attack roll?? Again, you gave them shitty spell slots you have to essentially stance up to even use.I think an Alchemist that just multiclass into Kineticist would have more going for them, that's how rough it is.
I want a game group that is both lethal tactics and theatre kid gay drama. What do?
>>97993995>Okay I'm pretty sure that's unintentional cause that is very unintuitive. How does that even work logistically, are you just constant bleeding alchemical essence on a big circle? Pretty sure it's supposed to be like the old Mutagenic Flashback feature, you can re-up a circle you already used once in cases of emergency/sustain, but not indefinitely. For the logistics I assume you'd just Render Circle onto an item to keep it going, though the image of you constantly making ephemeral alchemical circles as you walk is way funnier I'll admit. As for whether its intended or not, I see it similar to Anoint Ally. It doesn't cost you anything and it has no limit, so why not do it as an exploration activity to save resources. If a caster can just keep spamming Detect Magic, you can do Quick Alchemy + Render Circle. It's not even that powerful, since all it really lets you do is start a fight with a rendered circle that will expire at the end of your current turn. You'll still need to spend an actual resource (either a Transmutation Circle or a Versatile Vial) to get a 1 minute Circle. And as for being similar to Mutagenic Flashback, I can't really see that. The Field Vials entry for Chrysopoet is very specific, it wants you to use VVs to help with upkeep, otherwise why would they even let you Render Circle with a vial you created? If they wanted it to be truly limited they wouldn't allow that shit.1/2
>>97994273>>979939952/2>I think an Alchemist that just multiclass into Kineticist would have more going for them, that's how rough it is.On this I have to disagree. An Alchemist MC'ing into Kine will have a slew of issues:>You only start with 1 element and can only ever get a 2nd one at 10th level.>You're still limited to your impulses being Alchemist level/2 due to how the feats work, and you don't even get the repeatable level 16 feat to take Impulses over level 10. >Moreover, you don't get free Impulses as you level up, you need to spend feats no matter what.>You need to spend feats to get your blast to scale.>You're limited to at most Expert in your Impulse DC/Impulse Attack rolls and they scale off CON, not INT.An Alchemist/Kine will definitely be a better alchemist than a Chrysopoet, but it will be a much, much shittier Kineticist.
>>97994069You have a 85% chance to find just that if you join a random game. Good luck anon!

>>97994273>>97994290>The Field Vials entry for Chrysopoet is very specific, it wants you to use VVs to help with upkeep, otherwise why would they even let you Render Circle with a vial you created? If they wanted it to be truly limited they wouldn't allow that shit.It is supposed to keep with upkeep, that was the goal with the original Mutagenic Flashback feature. Remember, the pre-master Alchemist didn't have Versatile Vials but Infused Reagents, and that was a daily resource. Flashback let you re-up one mutagen you let expire or expended from the last minute to save on resources, which I believe the Research Field is trying to do. You can expend a Circle with an Overflow, then spend 1 Vial to bring it back for a short while, over spending 2 to maintain it. Hell, I don't think your idea works RAW, since it takes 10 minutes to restock 2 VVs and you only have 6 VVs to start. >An Alchemist/Kine will definitely be a better alchemist than a Chrysopoet, but it will be a much, much shittier Kineticist.Naturally, I am being a hyperbolic bitch about Chrysopoet, it is meant to provide more harmony between Alchemist and Kineticist. It just that, beyond the "proper" scaling, it isn't providing any real synergy between these two playstyles. It still feels like you just slapped on the Multiclass, not actually did anything to combine the two into a unique idea. Which at that point, just pick an impulse you like and play with that on an alchemist. Not like you even need the Kinetic/Matter Blasts as an Alchemist, bombs are good enough cantrip-like powers. And you know, have actual cohesion with the rest of the game instead of being weirdly incompatible with everything else (WHERE IS THAT ERRATA, PAIZO???).Like I said, big Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist fan, I'm left a level of disappointment I thought I could only get straight from the Paizo slop trough itself, not from Team+.
>>97995408>Hell, I don't think your idea works RAW, since it takes 10 minutes to restock 2 VVs and you only have 6 VVs to start. This is what I mean by not reading thoroughly. The last line of the Chrysopoet's field vials says:"If you Render Circle with a versatile vial you created with the Quick Vial option for Quick Alchemy, the circle lasts until the end of your next turn instead of 1 minute."So you don't need to recharge your vials. You MAKE a new vial with the 2nd option of Quick Alchemy, then Render Circle to bring back a Circle you already rendered 1 minute ago. In combat, this is 2 actions (Quick Alchemy -> Render Circle) which leaves you with 4 actions to use Impulses and such, since it expires at the end of your next turn. This costs no actual resources, but is very action intensive.Outside of combat, there is no reason you can't do this as a 2 action activity. Make a Vial -> Render Circle every minute. That way, when you enter combat, you have a Circle already Rendered that will last until the end of your turn (if we assume you rendered it just before entering combat). Alternatively, even on a more conservative reading, you would enter combat having used Render Circle within the last minute, allowing you to Render with a Versatile Vial for either a minute (by spending one) or until the end of the next turn (by making one).>It just that, beyond the "proper" scaling, it isn't providing any real synergy between these two playstylesThe synergy comes from the Infusion feats in Chrysopoet, which are all fine, even if Ammunition, Explosive and Toxic are the clear winners. And since all those feats specifically say you create the relevant item with Quick Alchemy, Additives and such still work. It'd be nice if they let you use an Impulse other than Matter Blast though.

Even if they wouldn't, the conflict of interest does exist and can compromise your GM'ing decisions.
>>98010880I agree with the other Anon. I don't think it's a big deal. The other GMs in my group are pretty lax with the retraining rules (being able to retrain outside of downtime or count adventuring days towards retraining, etc.). I tend to just wave them altogether. Pathfinder is a super build-oriented game and you're stuck with your character for a *long* time, especially if you do full APs, which most of my group does. If you're three books into a six-book AP and you realize you'd rather have built your character another way, I don't really care about just glitching the matrix so that you were always that way. Is it possible to abuse this? Sure. If my players arrived at the ocean and all simultaneously said "you know, I really wish I'd made a merfolk," I'd tell them to shove it, but that's never happened. Obviously the GM reserves the right to say no, but I've had zero problems with just allowing retraining whenever anybody wants. There does come a point where it's just literally not the same character any more (that species-swapping merfolk I just gave is an example of this). Nobody's ever asked for something that extreme, but if they did I'd probably just set it up to retire their character and bring a new one in. Same thing, mechanically, just less narratively jarring. But if you want to swap your feats or something? Easy peasy, I could not care less.
1e can you use Strength for Disable Device at all or is that a houserule I forgot about from a table that burned down almost ten years ago?
PF2e, can a 1st-level wizard use a scroll to cast a 3rd-level spell? I could've sworn I read in the rules somewhere you can cast a higher level spell with a certain check, but I can't find it for the life of Me.
>>98015419If you have spellcasting and it's on your spell list, you don't need to make a check. You can just cast it.You only need to Trick Magic Item if it's not on your spell list or you don't have spellcasting at all.
>>98015458I see, thanks
>>98013535There are break DCs for doors, but not trapsThere is the Trap Wrecker feat if you are an orc
what can you even do with raise haft from defender, am I missing something?anything with parry does a d8 at mostthey could have just given all twohanders the full +2 since they can't shield block
Paizo sisters...
>>98015419For spells and wands, as long as the spell is on your list (which is your magic tradition + any extras you get from feats and class features) you can just activate the wand or scroll and cast away. A 1st level wizard could cast 10 rank spells through scrolls without issue.Neither case requires a check though, those are only required for spells that arent on your list. For staves though you do need to be able to cast spells of a given rank to be able to cast them from a staff. If a 1st level wizard got their hands on a greater staff of fire, they would be able to prepare it and use it to cast ignition (at will) and 1st rank breathe fire, but they wouldnt be able to cast any of the 2nd or 3rd rank spells.
>>98015598I can't imagine ever taking it on a guardian, since I'm 100% going to use a shield in order to benefit from the action compression afforded by Shielded Attrition (Stride up to half your speed + Raise a Shield with no Flourish trait). Two actions that useful being combined without Flourish is almost unheard of, and you can use it alongside guardian's many Flourish abilities to regularly net yourself 5-action turns. No two-hander in the game is going to pull me away from that.Best use-case I've seen for Raise Haft is on a monk. Dipping Guardian Dedication then taking Raise Haft is huge value for a bo staff monk, since bo staff is arguably their best weapon already and also has the Parry trait. Both the dedication and Raise Haft are available at super low level and together they basically unlock your tank rotation for you, if that's what you're going for. Raise Haft + Taunt + Flurry is a hell of a round.
>PF1eI'm interested in playing a shapeshifting character and I've heard Beastmorph Alchemist + Vivisectionist is best for it. But is it better than, say, a Brown-Fur Transmuter?
any good spots to find a game these days?
>>97965401>another module focused on hobbling CheliaxWhere are the threats even supposed to come from in Golarion anymore? The Lich King got cucked by random orcs, the Worldwound is closed, Baba Yaga is done, Cheliax lost their colonial nation and a chunk of their own homeland, and now they are gonna lose Isger. Runelords got dunked on. Progressive Girl boss rules Taldor. Oh, and Treerazer lost. Why are the villains so fucking pathetic? This shit is annoying as hell. I hate the noblebright garbage.
>>98018043following up on this, have the bad guys or "villains' in general gotten a single w since the modules started except for Lastwall getting taken over? And even that didn't end up matterin much. The writers are fixated on humiliating their own threats. Even the literal bad guy party module didnt matter really.
>>98018087Most modules will be the heroes winning, that's just how it is to have a Heroic Fantasy story. It isn't exactly super satisfying to play for literal years only to have the main threat manage to get away or outright kill everyone and save it for the sequel. Characters like Treerazer and the like were longterm threats for over a decade, it is fine for them to finally lose for good. As for the actual question, Godsrain did empower Geb to start pulling shit, Worldwound is being threatened to be reopened, and the Starstone itself becoming some monster-spewing man-eating monstrosity. War of Immortals didn't really add THAT many threats, and much less cool ones, but there are some plot hooks they are sitting on for 2e. I do agree that they are emasculating the setting a bit too much, even from the very start of 2e. They haven't even touched on the whole Death of Aroden despite naming the entire Lost Omens line after such, 2e is pretty conflict-adverse and I don't think WoI was enough to fix it. But I don't think it is about "humiliating" their threats so much as willing to close the book on them.least compared to arguably the stupid reason why Gorum had to die... THAT'S utter emasculation no matter how you slice it.
>>98015694Jesus Christ.
>>98016462Different applications. Brown-Fur Transmuter excels at transforming /the party/ into blenders since they can turn personal transmutation spells into touch. You don't really want to wade into melee as a d6 half bab class. Beastmorph is way better as a shapeshifter themselves as you're a d8 class and have in class access to 3 primary natural attacks with Feral Mutagen on top of the archetype giving you Pounce at lv 10. Feral Mutagen and Beastform Mutagen also both stack with any polymorph spell you buff yourself with.
>2eWhat ways exist, if any, to meaningfully indefinitely imprison a spellcaster at low levels, assuming they know a spell that would otherwise help them escape restraints? Manacles are only a DC5 flat check; there's a bit in the rules for manacles about how you can make it higher, but even a DC20 one can still probably have a spell get through within a few days if you try every day. Restrained would do it, but it seems like the only way to keep that up indefinitely is just to tie someone up, as described in the Escape action, but that runs into the same issue with unlimited attempts. You'd need to have a Thievery bonus at least 20 points higher than their unarmed attack, so that even on a natural 20 they'd fail, which is incredibly unlikely to be the case, especially at low levels. Do we really need some sort of crazy anti-magic shackles to keep a level 5 sorcerer locked up?
>>98019658>different applications I see. A friend and I were talking about playing shapeshifters in an upcoming game and we didn’t want to step on each other's toes. Good to know they can complement each other.
>>98020313Probably the "simplest" idea to hold down a caster would be to use the Geas ritual on them and prevent them from casting or leaving your area. Or just keep them unconscious, that's pretty simple to do too.
Geas can't be used on an unwilling target until level 9, and just having someone stand there 24/7 and bonk them on the head whenever they come to, for days or weeks on end, is both unfeasible and ridiculous
>>98020313>Manipulate: You must physically manipulate an item or make gestures to use an action with this trait. Creatures without a suitable appendage can’t perform actions with this trait. >>98023023Heh, nice
Do you as a GM like characters having unusual senses? Like scent (imprecise), darkvision, low-light vision and so on? Do you see it come up very often?
>>98024235While I tend to not account for them more often than not, frequently to my own detriment, they are pretty key to immersing the players into their characters and the world around them. Their ability to save on items, scan for the environment for threats, and flavor they add to the adventure all helps them be routinely considered when my players make characters.
I could've sworn I found the stats for a bear/hunting trap in PF2e ages ago, but for the life of Me I can't find it again. Does it have a different official name I'm misremembering?
>>98022694I think the only nuanced version of CHURCH BAD that I've seen is in Overlord where the Slaine Theocracy is a human supremacist nation that attacks and enslaves their neighboring elves because their king is also a rapist despot (who kidnapped and impregnated one of their saints, in fact) that orders his oppressed viet cong elves to capture more breeding sows for him. Meanwhile the beastman kingdoms around them actively eat humans, which is why they send out genocide squads to exterminate demihuman settlements wherever they see them, and they actively manipulate human kingdoms to grow more populous and produce more hero-level beings because it's the only way to hold out against races like dragons where every member is born on that level and only gets stronger from there. Even their leadership rejects wealth and temporal power the higher up they go.
After almost a month I'm back. I wish that I had news along the lines of the "Myth's Bad End" video, but no, this time it was just work that kept me from doing literally anything for over 4 weeks.Gonna try to get back into the swing of things sooner rather than later. As for the build itself, I don't think I've intentionally made a character THIS weak since Chibi, at least with the Grimmi sheet (while she was definitely intended to be like an NPC) she at least had a positive number in her attack rolls. Really, in some ways getting someone this bad is almost a difficult challenge in itself due to the fact that the system is built with the assumption you want to make something that can win a fight. As always you can find the rest of the ones I've done here: https://x.com/DrumerThead/status/2053324977332535760

>>98025935I was sure it was a kind of snare, but I thought there was specifically one that represented a bear trap. This one isn't bad, but a little too high-level for what I think should be relatively standard equipment
>>98025942Biting Snare?
>>98025957Yes. I think I'll just take it and scale down the damage a bit, thanks Anon
In a previous thread I asked if the style strikes (like sweep leg) from unchained monk that granted free maneuvers (but without bonuses) were worth it and people told me yes because free attempt...after trying for a while, provoking AoO, getting damaged so more penalty to the attempt, and failing... I wonder if people were trolling. Haven't managed even once to accomplish a maneuver using styles
>>98026683Last thread? Is there a language barrier at play here because people told you it wouldn't be very good. And the style strikes (yes, Leg Sweep too) specifically tells you that they don't provoke AoO.
2eOne of my players wants to dual-wield two of the same weapon. But the system itself doesn't really support that. Would it be overkill to give the weapons Twin and another damage type?
>>98027205>But the system itself doesn't really support that. What do you mean?>Would it be overkill to give the weapons Twin and another damage type?Regardless of the above question, this won't significantly harm balance. A boost to a playstyle that might(?) need it but it's worse than +1 die size and I wouldn't consider +1 die size to be gamebreaking at all.
>>98027402I meant that while you can dual-wield two daggers or whatever, there is no real point. It's just unnecessarily nerfing yourself over wielding two weapons with minimal trait overlap.
>>98027419Ah, I see. I would argue that once you've taken a feat (or more) like Double Slice or Twin Takedown, you may still be slightly better off with two different weapons, but the meat and potatoes of your combat efficacy won't be too hurt by using two of the same weapon. Twin does make more sense under this rationale, though, since you're often losing something like a die size on one attack and/or a minor trait.
>>98022451Because all of the PF2e APs are mediocre and people are desperate to find examples to vaunt. It's why people are so obsessed with Season of Ghosts, it's the "only" PF2e AP worth running, even if (by PF1e) standards it's analogous to like, Mummy's Mask. I can't name a single NPC from PF2e. I can't name a single scenario from PF2e. The only one I guess I could name is that Gnoll quirk chungus from the Wakanda AP.
>>98022451I think at the time it came out it might have had fewer narrative issues and a more appealing hook than what other APs had at the time. I've seen opinion shift more recently to criticizing it for its encounter balance and choice of enemy types, so I think the community's realizing the same.In general I've seen more comments on the subreddit that all the APs kinda suck and need heavy GM modification to run okay (but they have to be like that because they need to appeal to broad audiences, and maybe the newer ones will be better now that they're changing the writing process, and it's still better than what 5e puts out) which is a shift from how I remember it in 2020-22 that I hope goes further.
>>98027581I’m skeptical, the latest APs dealing with Cheliax are dogwater. The writing’s getting worse, not better.
>>98027581>Encounter BalanceIsn’t the big claim that it’s a great AP part of the reason people think casters are dogshit? Because it’s full of overleveled single monsters that casters can’t do shit to?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1t9826x/what_are_the_top_3_weakest_classes_in_pf2e_and_why/Reddit is, perhaps rightfully, saying inventor, psychic, alchemist, and investigator, from worst to least bad.
>>98028080Inventor is dogshit, they could double its power and it would still be in the lower half of the tier list.
>>98028080There's a big gap in power between Psychic and Alchemist, imo. Alchemist just have a far wider skill floor and ceiling than either of the two classes. And Investigator just simply have a bit of a square hole, round peg situation, not every game will play to their strengths given how much power is in Investigations.Personally I would put Magus right between for a bit of smoother curve. Magus can be strong but the limitations they have in their core kit really punishes their failures, which WILL come up eventually.
Got me in the mood to make a quickie 2e Class Tier List to help elaborate some thoughts here. Damn you, 2hufag...Listing is made mostly by raw class power, with some accounting for current Class Archetypes (mainly for Wizard). No other archetypes or such. Standard 4-man party running through the "typical" dungeon crawl/exploration AP. Standard "every class is viable in 2e" clause of course.>S-tier: Always run one in the party. >A-tier: Valid S-tier replacements. Fantastic strengths, just barred from top tier by raw opportunity costs.>B-tier: Notable flaw or outclassed by powercreep. Good strengths but can't be central to the party.>C-tier: Moderate flaws and/or lacking in power. Needs support or lacking in a good option>D-tier: Heavily flawed design. You won't LOSE with them in the party but it is clear they got nothing going on another class wouldn't be doing.
>>98028785Where are you putting the newer classes like the Necromancer? Or are you holding off until they get full releases?
>>98028847Full release, no point in putting playtest classes in there (and I'm too lazy to slot them in the tiermaker). If I had to say their current power levels, which is more from memory than anything>Runesmith -- Low-A-tier, high-B-tier>Necromancer -- B-tier>Slayer -- C-tier>Daredevil -- https://youtu.be/CRzeTsi-jcs
>>98028080i think if there was the chance to redesign inventor, i'd just rip out the gambling mechanics and go all in on customization to really sell the idea that you make unique stuff, instead of the idea of making unreliable exploding stuff
>>98028785>>98028860Quickie Starfinder-in-Pathfinder2e Classes Listing as well since why the hell not>Envoy - C-tier>Mystic - S-tier>Operative - B-tier>Solarian -- C-tier>Soldier -- B-tier>Witchwarper -- A-tier>>98029071I think the gambling mechanics can be a fine enough feat idea. But they shouldn't be *unreliable*, just *dangerous*. The big issue with Unstable as that they stop you from engaging with the rest of the mechanics off of random chance. Even with being able to shoot off a Megavolt regardless, no other class or even system mechanic comes close to just shutting down all your interesting options like that. A failed Unstable check should impose some sort of penalty or issue to be resolved to keep going, not just "lol lmao no more being a class for the rest of the fight".tl;dr: Melee Oracles over INT Barbarians
>>98029115Not that anon, but someone else who's been reading through SF2E. What are Mystic's strengths and weaknesses? Why do you think it deserves an S? I don't disagree that it's good. I'm just curious.
>>98029156Take everything good about Cleric and now replace their few flaws with significantly less divisive ones. Vitality Network is a goofy amount of healing on demand, Spontaneous Clerics is just going to be stronger than Prepared thanks to being able to run multiple Restorations and other cleanses with limited opportunity costs, being able to take Occult or Primal over Divine in case you need actual punch to your party's DPS alongside healing, and is that Heal as a focus spell (with only a minor die size decrease and no compatibility with Healing Hands) I see there!? Yes I do! Yes, you broken option select, you!Anthem is also a pretty good initial focus spell as well!
>>98029193As for weaknesses, it pretty much between their really piddling bulk and they can't have everything good about them at once with their lack of a multi-subclassing feat. You have to respect the fact they can be the Achilles' Heel of the party, hence why they can't be the BEST class like Champion is in a typical 4-man group. But if you do, you very much have someone that is just incredibly important and versatile and easily the strongest support class.
>>98023023Not obsessed, just frustrated that Paizo has been infested with degenerate freaks. Here's another interesting tidbit: the creator of Folca trooned out and is still on Paizo's staff. Isn't that a little concerning? That the guy who made the daemon of child rape started taking estrogen, putting on womens' clothes and calling himself a female name? Not too long ago we'd call that some horror Silence of the Lambs type shit, but now I guess it's empowering or something.
>>98028080You could say that Investigator's feat suite suffers from lack of combat options and focuses too much on exploration/roleplay, but even so, the class chassis is ok and you can combine Devise a Strategem witl a lot of achetypes.
>>98028785One good thing I can say about PF2e is that even the worst classes are still playable. They can be frustrating or clearly worse than alternatives, but you never actively harm your party unless intentionally.
>>98029622again, what makes Daredevil such an infuriating playtest. They made the one class that is an ACTIVE DETRIMENT to have in your party. A class with high chances of doing nothing and hogging all the healing resources thanks to be such a big squishy target!
>>98029115The envoy and the solarian are somewhat poor by Starfinder 2e standards, but they are still middle-of-the-road by Pathfinder 2e standards. I would rate them a little higher. The witchwarper becomes top-tier by 10th level due to Twisted Dark Zone alone (yes, even post-errata), and the single strongest class in the game by 18th and 19th with Complete Transposition and warped infinities. You greatly underestimate the operative and the soldier. By ~8th or ~9th level, once they get weapon specialization and one or two energy damage upgrades, ranged operatives and ranged soldiers (mostly action hero and bombard, admittedly) are the strongest martials in all of Path/Starfinder 2e, flat-out.
Does anyone have the maps for Murder in Metal city? The "maps" pdf exists, but only has two.
>>98030380NTA, but you didn't really bring much to the table. Paizo devs are butt ugly martians, not exactly a surprise to anyone at this point. What the fuck?!>>98030416This may be crazy, but that post you're responding to isn't me.Anyway I'll drop it now -- clearly this place is infested by mentally ill freaks who might even work for Paizo, if I were to guess -- and I don't want this to suddenly become /pol/, because god forbid I have an opinion on mental illness and its effects on a game I otherwise quite like.
I've only ever played PF2e, but after combing through the 1e archives of Nethys it's hard not to hurt a little bit at how much the lore has been watered down and sanitized. I play in My own setting so the "official" lore and stuff doesn't matter so much, but 1e actually feels like there's some heart and soul in it while 2e feels sterile and corporate. The fact goblins are considered a core race in PF2e instead of the monstrous, violent, flesh-eating monsters they were in PF1e is very telling.
>>98030510>I point out that Paizo is infested with weirdosWhat the fuck do you think is average or "normal" for RPG writers? Gygax and co were wargaming nerds before they made DnD.>recently-troonedYou mean recently came out and got treatment. They were always trans, this was just when they acted on it.I'll remind you too that freaky monster-stuff is normal for a lot of women to fetishize.
>>98030555>"freaky monster stuff"Oh yeah, a lot of women enjoy writing about cultists raping children for the sole purpose of traumatizing them for a demon's blessing. You're fucking retarded dude. >>98030515It's a real shame. Golarion used to be pretty cool but pretty much everything Lost Omens has added is dogshit and it keeps getting worse.
>>98030401>>98030416>>98030489How about the dismal state of the setting and presently available Adventure Paths? All of them suck. I've never heard anyone here give any sort of glowing praise to Strength of Thousands, Extinction Curse, Triumph of the Tusk or even Age of Ashes. There are no NPCs we seem to find charming, no metaplot we seem to find fascinating, and the line-up of APs they've got on the roster fills most of us with ambivalence than enthusiasm. It wasn't always like this. Both in this thread and in the general subculture, people were excited about APs and metaplot. Everyone used to talk about which AP was the best to run, or how to alter this or that to better fit a single vision. People bemoaned the release of Wrath of the Righteous, for example, but ultimately everyone enjoyed it for what it was. People liked Curse of the Crimson Throne. People like Rise of the Runelords. People talked about Nualia, or Greta, or whacky Barney Thrune and his goon squad. People were eager to give Kingmaker a go, people wanted to feel Jade Regent beneath their fingers. There was yearning for Tian Xia, there was interest in where Sargava could go. People had curiosity.Where did it go? We don't talk about the lore anymore, except to critique it. We don't talk about the metaplots anymore, except to mock it. We don't talk about the APs anymore except to blandly stamp one or the other worth running. It's hard to simply admit that they lost the sauce, but in the years since PF2e was released we saw Paizo follow social trends with all the subtlety of Blizzard releasing another thirst trap hero to hide their latest atrocity. The Firebrands was their attempt at Antifa. Strength of Thousands was explicitly emblazoned with, "Black Lives Matter" as the slogan. Every nation that matters is ruled by a strong woman, and every nation that isn't is on the way out. All the good gods are gay, all the bad gods are straight, and everywhere you look is a transwoman or transman.[1/2]
>>98030615And all of these things can be forgiven, if that's not all that is left of this blasted waste of a setting. People only talk about those outrage points because there are no endearing points to discuss. We couldn't even have the Tian Xia book, arguably the most fascinating book written since PF2e's release, without the agonies of cultural appropriation rearing it's ugly head in the form of, "whEre'S theE SaMURaI?!" The lore either has the flavor of milksop or a flavor that everyone has unfortunately become quite comfortable with; outrage. Can you name a single new NPC that was introduced in PF2e that is worth introducing, or even interacting with? I can't. Can you name a single god or goddess that isn't just some eye-roll how they're gay now, or in a polyamorous threesome? I can't. There are no nations worth saving anymore, there are no peoples worth protecting. This feels like a "solved" setting. There's no point in adventuring in here anymore, especially now that we all know the end-result is the (probably white and male) heroes getting told to get out of town because the girlboss mayor finds them a microaggression.Beyond all the bluster and naysaying that I'm being close-minded or just a plain old bigot is nothing. Absolutely nothing. The setting is more cooked than it's ever been, the lore is more drab than it was since Tyrant's Grasp slithered onto our plates. You're defending a corpse every time you say we just need to "get over it." The system is great, I'm not going to sit here and denigrate a quality system. There's bloat of course, but if you run something in your own setting than you'll have a whale of a time. It's good stuff, by and large - but people always draw towards discussing how gay Golarion is because the alternative is discussing how utterly boring it is. There used to be something here, and now it's gone. Maybe the devs got old, and fat, and tired. Maybe they got captured by their audience. I don't know.
>>98030587You are aware that that's there to be a thing for evil characters, usually the enemy to the PCs, right?
>>98030652So then why did "she" (formerly he) stat it out to be used for player characters? Curious. What sort of sane person would want to roleplay this?Todd Stewart's past seems to be a well-kept secret within Paizo; I don't see a lot of discussion about him, how he made Folca, or how he's a mentally deranged transvestite now, or how he continues to contribute to Paizo stuff, arguably more than he did in the past. I guess trooning out gives you more opportunities at Paizo, but you already know this, given how it's obvious you are a tranny and you work for them in some capacity. Guessing freelancer like Todd? inb4 another "obsessed" image cope, get absolutely fucked you freak

>>98030716NTA but you're kind of retarded anon, PF1e was famous for creating statlines to help give mechanical backing for what worshipers of certain gods great and small would get in exchange for their faith and acts of service, to the point where many players actually complained that a lot of the Evil choices were just flat out superior to most of the Good ones, either in the actual benefit you'd get from doing Obediences or with the requirements needed in order to fulfill them being significantly easier.Folca is only "unique" in the sense that he got a little bit of extra detail compared to others of his weight class, but even then not by a whole lot.
>>98030626>>98030615I think Paizo doesn’t know what they’re doing and would have rather made a new setting for PF2e than continue with Golarion. A lot of their APs have a sense of obligation more than excitement. It’s why, “there’s nothing left to do” is such a common complaint. What makes it obvious that Paizo just doesn’t care anymore is how little they’ve actually done with Tar-Baphon, the last and greatest objectively evil threat in the lore. They’ve had 5-6 years to write even a single AP about his charnel realm in the north and we got nothing. Not even an AP set in Ustalav.
>>98030716>So then why did "she" (formerly he) stat it out to be used for player characters? Cause everything in 1e was statted out, as back in the day the old scribe of "if there's numbers it can die" was still in effect. You didn't play Folca, you put them in as the enemy. Listen man, I ain't above some trans-vestigating, I already had to do that yesterday because of the [citation needed] here >>98023146. But there's pretty much nothing interesting about the Paizo devs beyond their stupid liberal takes, the absolute stupid slavery nonsense, and Bulhman nearly killing himself with a computer mouse. Even if you do believe all trans people are mentally ill psychopaths, the nature of such is that it is "wait and see" because you cannot do anything about it. It's like watching a celeb take hard drugs, you know it will not end well but you are not the person that is able to stop the inevitable. If Todd Stewart is some predator in waiting, you do not have the firepower with this low-tier bait you call evidence do rally any support of a boycott or do anything about it. So like...why care? Also 90% of the staff have created fucked up shit on the level of Folca. It's why they are backsliding so hard, they ALL have Troll's Remorse of some form. Several devs have publicly complained about Eric Mona's love of the occult and how much he shills it in 1e and 2e. It's probably why Crystal Healing feat isn't allowed to actually heal.>>98030800>They’ve had 5-6 years to write even a single AP about his charnel realm in the north and we got nothing. Not even an AP set in Ustalav.Nigga, we literally JUST got a Beginner's Box + Adventure Module set in Ustalov. AND a new AP for it in Summer.https://store.paizo.com/pathfinder-bastion-of-blasphemies-adventure-path/
>>98030844>We finally get an AP in Tian Xia and it’s set entirely in a bland swamp>We get an AP set in Ustalav and it’s a slow train wreck attempt at putting Castlevania mechanics in a single castleI’m going to shit myself.
>>98030844>low-tier bait you call evidenceThe Folca thing has been a slow burn for a while, it's not a nothingburger.
>>98030844Thanks for a coherent response, still makes me uncomfortable that the guy who made Folca trooned out though.>>98030855>resorts to politics againNice.
Ok, for a change of pace:>Sci-fi vs. fantasy>The fantasy branch of Warhammer was good but the sci-fi branch overshadowed everything else>The fantasy branch of Pathfinder is successful but the sci-fi branch is limping alongThe flaws of Starfinder have been discussed, but what would a version of it that became popular look like?Personally:>less glup shitto species, more fleshed out when they are>know what the people pleasers are and lean into it. If that means goblins and dragons in space, so be it.>don't make Absalom Station so damn normal. It's probably more normal to a 21st century American than the Pathfinder version.>nuPaizo would never do this, but more edge. Star Trek lost the argument, faction wars sell.
>>98029193I'm playing a Healing connection Mystic in PF2E right now and I can attest to this. In particular, the healing connection's ability to counteract effects causing certain conditions (not the condition itself, the entire effect!) would already be pretty good, but you can also just try to counteract any affliction (curse, poison or disease) for free! Also Network Spell is a tremendous spellshape that you get for free, and having 120 feet telepathy woth the whole party is nothing to sneeze at.I think the only weak subclass is Akashic, the rest of the class is superb.
>>98030941>Whinging about politics while going full /pol/tard
>>98030960Fewer weirdly specific small species, more pastiches of cool things like predators or xenomorphs or wookies.Just because star trek has a hundred billion psychic species doesn't mean starfinder needs that many.Give us more shit like the vesk, hulking space lizard people are cool!
>>98031001Vesk are definitely one where, even if not fully cooked, they at least were fleshed out a little. Even then it's not that fresh of a concept, look at Bossk.
>>98031022I never said they were original, I said they were cool. Which is what Starfinder DESPERATELY needs.
>>98031077I don't believe in conversion therapy, no. I do believe dysphoria is a genuine issue, ask ANY bodybuilder why they started to take steroids. But I cannot believe our current medical technology in replicating the looks of the opposite sex is enough to treat it. Until we can actually create working wombs, testes, penises, etc., I think our current sex reassignment operations are just as effective as steroids to cure muscle dysphoria/"bigorexia".I mean, SUUUREEE?? Mind is a plaything of the body and all but is this REALLY a solution? I rather research into medication and cognitive behavior therapies. In Pathfinder terms, it is why I question the alchemical Elixir of Gender Transitioning existing. The Serum of Sex Shift always been a thing. Why is there something that is distinctly worse, have less roleplay opportunities, and does less? Just for the appearance of not even the idealized form, but to look trans??
>>98030587Seriously nigga how the fuck did we go from "this goblin uses bombs to trap people before setting them on fire" to "this goblin can eat pickles and gain 4 temp HP lol". Not to mention the evil nation of evil devil worshipping evildoers got rid of slavery because it was just too heckin evil! and how sanitized the descriptions of some of the more fucked up evil deities like Lamashtu and Nocticula have become. So glad I play in My own setting so it's not THAT bad but at the same time I like having a game that's relatively easy to draw inspiration from with mechanics and rules reflective of the lore. The fact deific obediences were tossed out the window is a huge downgrade as well.>>98030626>if you run something in your own setting than you'll have a whale of a timeCan confirm.>>98030716In fairness, there's a ton of fucked up stuff in 1e that you can do in service to demon/devil lords that has mechanical benefits for PCs. They're only practical in an evil campaign, but in the same vain I'd ask what sort of sane person wants to burn someone alive or tie someone up in such a way only their eyes and genitals are exposed and torture them with needles?
>>98031107>In fairness, there's a ton of fucked up stuff in 1e that you can do in service to demon/devil lords that has mechanical benefits for PCs.Okay? Still extremely weird that the dude who made something horrific involving children became a tranny, that's all.
>>98031175He's the most mentioned individual in everything, including fucking >>>/tg/ - /pgg/ - Paizo Games General for some fucking reason.
>>98031197I'm not that anon, we've jumped the rails somewhere.
>>98031211Projecting much?
Sorry for bringing up the tranny who wrote about raping kids. I didn't think the thread would devolve into a tranny going full schizo and babbling about American politics for some reason, I just thought it was weird and also that Paizo is run by a bunch of freaks.
>>98031247Pathfinder is interesting because it's one of the only properties that is 100% controlled territory in the culture war. In a way that actually has a calming effect in the general usually, and usually people are just talking about rules here (like most of /tg/ before 2020) but if you actually do rep the rival gang here it will cause an even bigger sperg out than usual.
>>98031247>/pol/tard troll trying to pretend his own obsession and false representation was someone else's fault
>>98031247Genuinely asking here, what did you expect??Honestly the mix of Paizo and Pathfinder being radically lefty but also really problematic and edgy is sort of what makes it interesting to this day. It's really funny when you notice the outright divide in "American Idiot"-obsessed wannabe punk scene kids and the Tumblr Pronoun Gang that make up modern Paizo and how they keep fighting each other. They can try to downplay or scrub out their edgy mid-10s past and stuff like Folca, Lamashtu, Second Darkness, the Darklands, and such, but so much of that was many of the higher ups pet projects. Even when the playerbase hates this shit, a good amount of them is just stuff the devs are fascinated by and they aren't willing to let them go without A LOT of pushback.I say keep an eye out on Dead God's Hand. This Adventure was so delayed and is Mona's big magnum opus, even surviving every single controversy in 2e's lifespan. This one is bound to be really fucking whack, given how much Mona loves to focus on Absalom being a drug-riddled shithole slave state and how every other dev hates that shit. So I imagine some form of nonsense will happen no matter what when it finally drops in November.
I am a faggot and want to power game, become the strongest nigga to ever exist. I picked Champion, I'm doing the abomination vaults campaing, how do I turn into Broly and cockslap everything?
>>98022787Anyone?
>>98031100>why I question the alchemical Elixir of Gender Transitioning existing. The Serum of Sex Shift always been a thing. Why is there something that is distinctly worse,Shrimply because it's lower level and therefore cheaper and accessible at more settlements.I don't know if being alchemical instead of magical means you can't dispel the elixir but can dispel the serum. It certainly affects which crafting feat you need to take.
>>98022787>>98031816Well, you can get Black Tentacles itself added to your spell list through the Arrowsong's Lament masterpiece. At lv 16 though, or 10 at the earliest through some archetype shenanigans. Or you could spec into mind control spells like, Confusion which you get as a 3rd lv spell.
>>98032015Right, and getting it as a 3rd lv spell is a huge advantage since you can then use lesser metamagic rods rather than normal ones. You'd get Confusion at the same level as a Wizard, but you can buy a lesser Persistent (must save twice) rod for just 9000 gp while the wizard needs one for 32,500 gp.
>>98031970Not really? While Level 7 is somewhat high for the average boonshackle in Golarian, it is only 60GP, only need to be taken once, cannot be dispelled or counteracted, works instantaneously, and actually affects more than just secondary sex characteristics. Meanwhile the Elixir, even at its strongest, still requires 6 months and Level 6 to make.It very much slow and ineffective just to roleplay the longterm transitioning process/hormone replacement therapy, when it doesn't have to be like that.
>>98030615>>98030626TRVKE
In my setting, which takes most of Lost Omen's lore and reverts or changes the retarded shit, the Elixir of Gender Transformation is used in an Eucharist-like ceremony once a week by those faithful to Arshea. Basically they sip that shit every week and, unbeknownst to most, it inflicts a slowly incubating affliction, with the ultimate failure step driving the afflicted to suicide. I haven't statted anything out yet because it has yet to be a focus in my campaign, and probably never will be, but the elixirs' existence makes a lot more sense as a part of a cult-like ritual rather than what it's illogically presented as RAW.And yeah, Arshea is a daemon who delights in self-mutilation and suicide. I think it makes for a much more interesting character over "angel whose anathema includes doin a heckin homophobia or touching a girl's shoulder and making her uncomfortable."
>>98032413Psychopath.
>GM of my campaign suddenly asks on my DM "hey can you make a sheet of your character at Lv.20 just for funzies?">we're at Level 4
>>98032874PLEASE GOD NOLevel 20 play is fucking horrible and honestly the journey is the fun part rushing low levels kills games.
>>98032879I don't think he's suddenly going to put us at Level 20I think he's going to make a Level 20 encounter
P2ECan you cast Fireball through walls? The spell doesn't specify line of sight.
>>98029115>>98029867I still maintain the stance that Operative is wickedly powerful, but also one of the worst fucking class designs in the system and actively betrays the entire fucking premise of what you'd even want from the fucking thing in the name of "having a legendary attack scaling class". It should have been a more evenly balanced chassis that didn't need one specific subclass to have acceptable melee scaling, and should have had automatic scaling in its subclass skill so the "good at one skill" premise they pitched initially actually got any delivery at all.In SF1e you went to Operative to be Han Solo, in SF2e you go to Operative to be John Halo Infinite, stupid as fuck.
>>98029867>>98033986Admittedly I undershot the rankings there just out of vibes and inexperience with SF2e. I'm fine with missing each one by a ranking there, well within margins of error. Really, it was Operative's fault as I am aware at the raw power of it, but also just how much of a MESS it is. So I wanted to play it a bit safe. Especially in the context of a "stuck in Pathfinder" deal, where auto-fire weapons may or may not be available.Overall, the SF core classes are pretty strong, but also pretty poorly designed in some way or fashion.
>>98032413Based. I also think Arshea is a little weird as an Empyreal Lord. Doesn't seem like enough for an outright villain, but doesn't fit what you'd expect of an angel either. Not to mention any actual trans person/character in the setting has no reason to take the Elixir over the Serum of Sex Shift
>>98033467Unless otherwise specified, you need line of sight to target a point, creature, etc.
>>98028785why champion and guardian on S? just curious
>>98034303>Doesn't seem like enough for an outright villain, but doesn't fit what you'd expect of an angel either.Yeah, and the 1st edition version felt a lot more like a debaucherous creature (I think you could get blessings from xhem by jacking off? lmao). Kind of a weird choice to make it the tranny god, but it was probably the closest fit to pander to these poor souls.Anyway, expanding on it a bit, I think I'll have nu-Arshea be the one who killed the real Arshea and is pretending to be them. The average person sees an Arshea faithful and knows -something- is wrong, but anyone who speaks up is rebuked by the cultists for being ignorant.
>>98034323Defenders are incredibly important in 2e's meta. The ability to both lockdown a foe and negate damage are massive force multipliers in any party. An enemy that's not controlled or diminished will run roughshod on you all. No other class can be "The Tank" part of the Holy Triangle, at least not as well as these two. This is on top of other fantastic features, like healing, buffs, debuffs, crowd control, etc. Champion and (to a lesser extent) Guardian pretty much do everything, hence why they are such great anchors to a party.By comparison, Monk has many similar ideas and features, but without something like the Champion Reactions or Intercept Attack, they don't come together nearly as greater than the sum of their parts. This is why people question what exactly the role or goal of a Monk is. Even if arguably they have a far more clear and concise rotation and powerscaling compared to Champion (they can have some remarkably dead turns thanks to how much value they have off of it), they lack the connective tissue that lets them stand out and excel.
>>97965401yeah, paizo, i see why nanocyte and precog had to die but this chit deserves it's own fucking classhttps://paizo.com/blog/set-the-spotlight-with-the-luminary-playtest
>>98034468ENVOOOOOOY TWOOOOOOOI think there's some neat ideas that justify this a little more than Slayer and Daredevil, but this is still just "Remixed Performance based Envoy, but now with mild hardlight themes and some focus spells, less skills, and a fucked up chassis (legendary will and perception, but no automatic legendary in performance?)"
>>98032413>>98034303>>98034397>Evil cannot create anything new, only corrupt what exists
>>98034468Luminary is way too cool a name to be used on this thing! Should have used it for Exemplar! But yeah, this is really weird? I guess it is kind of a redo of the old Mesmerist ideas, with the focus on illusions and holograms providing buffs and debuffs. I appreciate the big Macross references as well. But I am confused what exactly are they supposed to do AFTER a spotlight is set?Either give it more actual attacks or just give it Bounded Occult Spellcasting.Trope Deconstruction is something of note, as the ability to inverse the stat buffs/debuffs of a role could create some interesting combos. While Radiant Sparkle is something of a dead feat that does nothing in combat and really awkward out of it??
>>98034397>you could get blessings from xhem by jacking off?"Achieve sexual release by yourself or with one or more partners. Praise the most beautiful aspects of yourself and any partners aloud, and offer a prayer to Arshea while still naked. Gain a +4 sacred bonus on Charisma checks and Charisma-based skill checks when interacting with an intelligent creature who could be sexually attracted to you.">expanding on it a bitSounds fun. I love messed up shit in My games. I hope you and your group have fun with it.>>98034546Really makes ya think
I'm kinda new to playing pathfinder and I'm confused about the Gunslinger. The book says I can reload a (one-handed) pistol as a standard action and a (two-handed) musket as a full action. If I use a smaller musket, can I reload it faster? G-Man says Lightning Reload doesn't give you full attacks so what's the fucking point? This is 1e.
>>98034692I mean, the post chain is psychos turning a goddess of love, beauty, and acceptance into a horrific monster.
>>98034692>I hope you and your group have fun with it.I think they will, though again, not sure if it'll be a major focus of the campaign. It's a little on the nose with the allegory, so I think having it be subtle and offhandedly mentioned by NPCs and such will work better. My players might start cracking up and calling me a chud if it becomes a major part of the game.>>98034726No, it's a horrific monster taking the guise of the goddess of beauty and shifting xhem's dogma in order to feed off their followers' pain and regret. "We used to be sexual deviants, but now we're just like the rest of you! Just sip this potion and let us cut off your genitals, and you'll finally get to be the real you. You'll finally be happy."
>>98034468The class feature chassis of the luminary really does not seem that good. It can achieve some decent tricks at the start (e.g. proning with the 1st-rank sports focus spell), but the buffs and debuffs lack the impact of, say, an envoy's Get 'Em!: and the envoy is not some super-strong outlier class. Some class feats are standouts, like Hardlight Squib at 4th, Contrasting Chiaroscuro at 6th (assuming it gets past the flat check for hidden; worse otherwise), Sponsored Ad Break at 8th, and Chroma Key Stagehand at 10th, but the envoy has good feats, too. I think the luminary needs a more generous power budget to come close to the envoy.I also do not think it is thematic at all for a luminary to want to make a single Strike each round with a two-handed ranged weapon, yet that is what we are stuck with. This playstyle is encouraged even further by the 9th-level class feature galactic superstar. I would have liked to see some built-in hardlight ranged attack.
>>98035099Oh, yes, and Trope Deconstruction is good, too, though you are waiting for 8th for that.
>>98035180Character Acting Support at 4th is fairly decent as well.
>>98034935>No, it's a horrific monster taking the guise of the goddess of beauty and shifting xhem's dogma in order to feed off their followers' pain and regret.>Continues proving my pointPerverting something good instead of creating something new.
>>98034726I think it was more like "a goddess of love and sweet things was murdered by a monster who now wears her face", which is a pretty interesting plot point IMO and the kind of grizzly shit you'd see in 1e that saddens Me they sanitized out of 2e.>>98034935It happens that a lot of the stuff we write ends up just being "for us" and our players don't touch it. But we know it's there. Waiting...>t. forever GM
>>98035443Why does it bother you? Your table's Arshea is still untouched.
>firework technician>no actual firework item or general rules for fireworks, even within the archetype>can't actually attack people with fireworks until level 10It's all so tiresome...
>>98023023You will never be a woman
What is the worst habit you had to break from your older tables?
>>98034468WOAHHH is that a heckin theater-based class?? That's so flavorful and epic!! Finally bard in space and also not a caster!!!
>>98034703Almost missed you there between all the 2e baitposting.A smaller musket won't reload faster. They made it convoluted but the idea is that you both take Rapid Reload and use Alchemical Cartridges (more expensive ammo) which lowers your reload action by two steps. So one-handed pistols are now free actions to reload (standard->move->free) and two-handed pistols are move actions (full-round->standard->move). If you want to use two-handed firearms then most people take the Musket Master gunslinger archetype that lowers your reload time by another step. You could also go for a Vital Strike (feat path) or Dead Shot (gunslinger deed) build.
>>98037556>>98034468What the hell is going on with Paizo and their obsession with theater? There was even an inane theater scene in the latest AP.
>>98038513Theater kids are mentally deranged and self insert to the max. I'm sure if you look at the writers one of them is a theater kid.
>>98038513Uhm, sweetie? Why do you care? Ugh, let *clap* people *clap* enjoy *clap* things! Okay??? I’m getting everything I want out of Paizo, they represent *me* and cater to *me.* You sickos acting like you can change their lore is PEAK media illiteracy. Hello!I plan to run a PF2E Remastered campaign, probably an adventure path. I don't know shit about the edition and their differences, but that's the book I was gifted by my potential players, so I'm taking it.I was planning to run Curse of Extinction, as my players seem to enjoy the circus theme, but from what I've read it seems to be the worst PF2E module ever made. What is a good alternative? I've been looking at Season of Ghosts.Any advice?
>>98040521Paizo writing is shit. Make your own setting or find a good adventure you can port over
>>98040521Just like anon said. Paizo writing is trash. Season of Ghosts is "the best" 2e AP. Doesn't mean it's very good. Make your own setting or adventure for a better outcome.
>>98040521There’s several rants in this very thread over how terrible Golarion and the APs are, especially PF2e’s current range. I don’t remember if they remade any of the old APs into PF2e besides Kingmaker, but that one is onerous for a whole slew of issues. My advice is to make your own setting, like everyone else is saying. Golarion is trash.
>>98040521So, unfortunately there are no APs that stand out as being good. Extinction Curse in particular is pretty bad, and it would feel especially bad if your players are interested in the circus aspect because that aspect is essentially dropped and never mentioned again past the first half of Volume 2 (out of 6!).If your players bought the AP for you then you might as well run books 1 and 2 and see how it feels. If they didn't, I would actually NOT recommend buying any AP at all. Get yourself Rusthenge, which is a single adventure and is solid (if pretty unimaginative) to get your feet wet. If your group likes the system I'd then recommend homebrewing your own world, but if you can't then the only APs I can recommend are Fists of the Ruby Phoenix (the 3rd book needs a lot of work though) and Quest for the Frozen Flame. They're not great but they have enough meat you can make a meal out of them.
>All the people insisting modern Golarion lore is fine scatter like dust the moment someone actually asks about the setting and if it's "worth" playing
>>98040521Worst 2e module would be either Agents of Edgewatch or Wardens of Wildwood, depends on how FUCKED a narrative and what you would be personally offended by. Extinction Curse is bad but realistically speaking it is more indicative of Typical Paizo Writing than anything. A gimmick campaign with very loose connective tissue that can't even afford to keep up the gimmick for the whole run. It describes a good portion of both 1e or 2e campaigns so I wouldn't get SOOOO up in arms if you have to run it. Just don't expect the circus part to stick around.Seasons of Ghosts is definitely the best of the lot but does still require some GM mastery since it is deliberately written to be easy and its twist might not land well if your foreshadowing game isn't up to snuff. I would suggest starting with Rusthenge, a single-book adventure, then transition into Seven Dooms for Sandpoint as recommended. That's a duology that will give you a full 1-20 experience. You can also get the new Beginner Box + Troubles in Grayce stuff, as that will lead into the new AP coming in the summer Bastion of Blasphemies, which is said to be a new longform dungeon crawl campaign.
>>98039142The more I look at Luminary the more baffled I become. Why isn't this just an extension of Envoy? Why did we need a SECOND Cha-focused dandy support martial? Why did it need to be just a narrower version of an existing class with reflavored, juggled versions of the initial class's supporting tools? Is it because the devs just wanted a second crack at it because they know they completely fucked up Envoy and made it kinda shit? Are they just allergic to expanding on classes? I don't fucking know and I think I might be getting too tired to care!
>>98041572>Are they just allergic to expanding on classes?Class expansions sell worse than 'full classes'
>>98041572I will argue that it can't be an Envoy thing. Whether you think this is just too single-minded and could just be an archetype or it needs to be its own class, I don't think Envoy or even standard Bards would fit the weird "director" idea that is in Luminary. Combined with the Illusionist/Mesmerist ideas and the focus casting (though I would prefer Bounded), I can respect it as a standalone thing, gaudy as it is. Think of it more like Commander + Witchwarper than ENVOY 2!!!!!The major issue I have is that it will be competing with Envoy for martial feat ideas. The playtest here puts so much emphasis on the support casting and spotlight powers, but it just needs things to do for itself. But any real "mark + shoot" or "command an ally + attack" ideas, Envoy wants for itself and desperately needs. So you run into the deal where they need to share design space for such, go harder on casting and limit their martial feats, or find another system to attach to them at the risk of complicating the class. I kind of prefer the latter idea as I want them to have the Thrall mechanic, hardlight obstructions and props that other classes can use. Go deeper on the support Illusionist and probably drop the predefined role mechanic (that seems like too much bookwork)
>>98041990They really don't and that's pretty frustrating. Both Pathfinder Unchained and Starfinder Enhanced came and went, which is a problem when both were Hail Mary attempts at extending the lifespan of their respective games. You can tell Paizo took the lackluster response to things like the Ultimate X splats personally, hence why they bundle all the 2e class expansion stuff in Lost Omens things. They feel obligated to provide more "content" with their splats, so (gay) lore and archetypes take up most of the page space for what could be deeper class expansions.
i need ideas for treasure to give my sorcerer. 4E's wand was a fun solve (it just works like a magic weapon giving +1 to attack rolls and damage etc.) and i wonder if something like this is game breaking for pf2e. also any good ideas from sf2e i should bring to pf2e?
>>98042002I can respect the hardlight parts of of Luminary, but Envoy's entire combat gimmick is "being a battle director", that's the entire point of Directives-you are directing your ally to give them bonuses against foes and that's the part I have issue with. Luminary also being a director class just means now we have two classes that want to do functionally the same shit with the same kinds of feats, like you said. If Luminary was instead all-in on the hardlight magic shit instead of weird ally buffing/aiding with spotlights and roles, that would be way more distinct and less crowding in on Envoy's space>>98041990It's actually so annoying-nothing but new classes makes new money. They clearly don't have enough money to properly playtest classes.
So the Lost Omen book Highhelm created a weapon that has a rune that doesn't exist in the game. The Gray Prince has the ruinous rune. Was a really funny moment in my game when the GM realized he gave that to our gun Magus and we all had to collectively try to figure out what it does. Ended up making it a decaying rune.
>>98042060I can ease up on the support aspects, given how they focus on different boosts. Luminary is stronger at providing casters with setup while Envoy does it better with martials. The stickiness of Luminary's buffs/debuffs gives them more fluidity compared to Envoy's global callouts. The better way to put it for me is that Envoy is to Commander what Luminary is to Inquisitor of all things. It's all about marking and Teamwork Feats, while Commander is about large buffs and semi-auras that gets the team focused on a task.Again, it isn't the support I'm worried about, the role system is a good way to split them up, especially with Trope Deconstruction in action (YOU AREN'T DECONSTRUCTING ANYTHING YOU FUCKS. YOU ARE SUBVERTING OR LITERALLY INVERTING THE TROPE! THAT'S NOT A DECONSTRUCTION). It is what the Luminary supposed to be doing on their own turn that gets to me. Unlike something like Champion, Luminary doesn't have the raw bulk or power in their chassis to get away with just being a vanilla beater on their turn and stock all their power off of it. A lot of the Mark + Fire actions will be things Envoy would want to be doing, since it is about its Lead By Example powers. So again, what will it be doing once you get your spells up.
How would you guys build a pf2e ranger if they're in a party of 4 with a cleric and 2 Frontline fighters?
>>98042300Me personally? Human with Natural Ambition for the companion feat and Hunted Shot. Precision edge, spec into Beastmaster archetype for faster progression and a 2nd option for a companion. Monster Hunter feats if the game is FA and can expect to hit 10th level for Master Monster Hunter. Probably half-assed spec into Intimidation as well so I have something to do with my third action if I get a turn where I don't need to move or Hunt Prey.
>>98042300Well a ranged weapon seems like it's probably in order. Flurry and Precision are your go-to damaging Edges. I'm more of a fan of Precision for ranged rangers than I am of Flurry, due to Flurry really wanting an Agile weapon and there literally being one ranged weapon that both has the Agile trait and qualifies for Hunted Shot (the Shuriken, if you're curious--if you want to make a ninja this might be a good party for it). If you want a bow, though, Precision is your damage-dealing Edge, and it's the easiest thing in the world to build for because it Just Works. No matter what you do, so long as you're Striking twice per round, you will gain the full benefit of Precision for the entire campaign. You can do basically whatever you want.Outwit is your gimmick option if you want to fully lean into being Geralt and spitting fun-facts about monsters you meet. It gives up the damage enjoyed by both Precision and Flurry in return for an actually pretty solid bonus on Recall Knowledge checks in combat. Combined with Ranger's Monster Hunter feat tree, rangers actually become some of the best monster-identifiers in the game once hey come online at level 10 with Master Monster Hunter. Still, you can get everything except the +2 Outwit bonus while still being a Precision or Flurry ranger, so Outwit is only there if you *really* want this to be your thing. The AC bonus, for you, will probably be irrelevant. Still, clerics and fighters are not known for their high knowledge rolls, so it could be useful and fun. It should go without saying, though, hat since Master Monster Hunter is a level 10 feat, this build is basically a non-starter in level 1-10 adventures.
>>98037617Thank you, that helps a lot.Can you tell me about Lightning Reload, I'm not sure I understand it.>If he has the Rapid Reload feat or is using an alchemical cartridge (or both), he can reload a single barrel of the weapon as a free action each round instead. Furthermore, using this deed does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Why is it written like this, what is the point of 'each round'?
>>98043920it's so if you have a double barreled shotgun you don't reload both barrels with a free action between each attack.
>>98043920You're welcome. It's written like that to prevent you from using it multiple times per round, as there's no actual limit on how many free actions you can use in a round. Lightning Reload's main use case is for characters using two-handed firearms but who didn't take the Musket Master archetype. Then you can use the Dead Shot deed (or Vital Strike) to fire once per turn, and Lightning Reload to reload once per turn. Your G-man is right in that it doesn't help you full-attack by itself. For a typical two-handed firearm build (that isn't using Musket Master), you'll be using the Beneficial Bandolier long before Lightning Reload. https://aonprd.com/MagicWondrousDisplay.aspx?FinalName=Beneficial%20Bandolier
>>98044589A swift action is the better option? And it's a belt, I want that over an Incredible Dexterity?
>>98045182A swift action is worse, and you want a stat belt when possible, but it's a long wait until lv 11 when you get Lightning Reload and most games don't even reach that level. The Beneficial Bandolier is however so cheap that you can feasibly buy one already by lv 3. As an example you could be using a Double-Barreled Musket to shoot twice as a standard action, reload once with your move action, and reload the second barrel with the Beneficial Bandolier as a swift action. This allows you to fire twice with a two-handed firearm, every round, 8 entire levels before Lightning Reload would give you the same strategy. And when you finally get Lightning Reload you can replace your Beneficial Bandolier with a stat belt. You could buy a Snakeskin Tunic in the meantime as well. A good archetype for this particular strategy is Black Powder Vaulter as you get to move while reloading. If you're playing at early levels (lv 1-8) I'd definitely consider the double-barreled blasting strategy over full-attacking.https://aonprd.com/ArchetypeDisplay.aspx?FixedName=Gunslinger%20Black%20Powder%20Vaulterhttps://aonprd.com/EquipmentWeaponsDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Double-barreled%20musket
I think double damage on crits is fucking bad broslost a PC last session to two PL-1 mandragorasno PC rolled above an 8 for 2 rounds
