Guys I built a deck with this commander and I fear I will never be able to top it. It's a perfect balance of fun and power.

Everyone had been playing competitive 60-card for years, and one was even a judge. I was sort of the odd one out. I'd been playing commander with my high school friends before that, but we were all still pretty new and bad. In college I learned the basic concepts of what was good and what wasn't very, very quickly. It was absolutely a trial by fire. That being said these days when I go to my LGS and contend with the average modern-day idiot player, it makes me appreciate how many years of being a turboshitter I avoided by having a capable group of players to walk me through. Teach me basic concepts of card assessment. Card advantage. Not to be a little fucking bitch when someone plays MLD or combo, and instead to run outs.But that's an exception to the rule. The average casual player gravitates to the average casual player. Friend groups get into Magic around the same time, and they form deranged opinions about basic aspects of the game uncontested. It's how you have people in current year look at Ur-Dragon or Atraxa and freak out. Or see infect/MLD/board wipes as "unfair" and "unfun."In their case they really need to go to the LGS and keep playing with strangers until they've disinfected their brains.

I agree that BLB had powercreep, but it wasn't the kind that commander felt; mostly standard.
