man I don’t even know how to put it anymore but 40k just feels hollow now

it used to feel like this weird, half-serious fever dream where everything was dialed to 11 for no reason other than it was cool and a little unhinged. the setting didn’t care if it contradicted itself or leaned too hard into some bizarre aesthetic, that was the whole point. it had grit, it had mystery, it had that sense that you were only seeing a tiny fragment of something way bigger and way stranger

now everything feels… sanded down. like every faction has to be neatly explained, every character has to have a clean arc, every release has to fit into some kind of corporate-approved tone. it’s like they took something that was supposed to be mythic and ugly and turned it into just another franchise that needs to be “accessible”

the worst part is the tables reflect it too. you used to see janky, hand-made terrain, weird kitbashes, armies that looked like someone had been obsessing over them for years. now it’s all standardized ruins and safe color schemes and people chasing whatever the current meta spreadsheet tells them to run

even the lore arguments aren’t fun anymore. it used to be half the appeal that nobody actually knew what was true and everyone just argued based on vibes and some obscure paragraph from a book printed in 1998. now it’s like people treat it as canon law that needs to be internally consistent

I’m not even saying it’s “bad” now, it’s just… missing something. like the soul got replaced with a content pipeline

and yeah people will say “it’s just nostalgia” or “the hobby is bigger than ever” but that’s kind of the point. it got bigger and cleaner and more polished, and in the process it lost that weird, grimy charm that made it feel different from everything else

it used to feel like you were stepping into a dying, insane universe held together by duct tape and blind faith

now it feels like a product
