Word Bearers ThreadHave you accepted our lords and saviors yet
Kor Phaeron wuz hereErebus is gay
>>97973594All I ever wanted was the truth...
>>97973095I still find it strange how GW decided to the keep the black legion as the poster boys for chaos when the roll would be better suited for world bearers>actual fanatics for chaos and better show off the inevitable freak show it turns you into>have an actual rivarly with the ultramarines, the usual go to for marine poster boys giving addtional relevance to them>color scheme isn't to difficult
>>97973759A bunch of atheists got into the team so now you /have to say that 8 legions out of 9 actually hate chaos, and the one they cannot retcon like this is sidelined even furtherAt least the trilogy from reynolds was good, and in the HH they had a few nice moments (some of them from reynolds, obviously)
>>97973759
>>97973759It probably has to do with the fact that they're basically the most evil and are fully unsympathetic unlike say the Night Lords or the World Eaters who at least have sympathetic backstories
>>97973095Post your wordbearer models!
>>97973759The Black Legion, by the nature of how they are organized, will always be the largest and most powerful remnant of the Traitor Legions. They're an opt-in military organization that soaks up broken warbands that can't make it on their own anymore. They're the ones that are going to come crashing down out of the sky like a metal album, with or without cultist support.Word Bearers are too subtle to be the face of chaos. They corrupt and convert. By all accounts an army of them should be composed of a lot of cultists and/or daemons. You don't HAVE to do it but it makes more sense for them to operate that way.I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the Black Legion represent CSM as a whole in the same way that Ultramarines represent a great majority of Space Marines. Word Bearers are more like Black Templars, they're irregular and have their own way of doing things.
Reminder.
>>97974863Erebus isn't in the 3rd edition so he isn't canon.
Don't forget the most important element of Word Bearer's Faith: mortal cannon fodder. May the Gods make ye faithful squishy enough to absorb bolter fire without overpenetration
I like word bearers because I like ritual and occult practices in my fantasy/sci-fi villains. I want evil cults in my fiction.I love the daemon worship and how being possessed is a great privilege. The ritual scarification and markings upon their armor are awesome too.I read Know no fear, but are there any other good WB books?
>>97975140I recommend the Word Bearers Trilogy, though be warned it's the edgiest shit Black Library ever published, though still great.
>>97975193What kind of edge levels we talking about? Cannibal Holocaust? Blood Meridian? A Serbian Film?
I think the Word Bearers should briefly be the posterboys of CSM.Mostly because I think they are still the number 1 rival to Ultramarines that are the poster boys of loyal space marines. And Red teams vs Blue teams are a classic staple.
>>97975315Casual Slavery, Rape, torture, etc. Think Grey knights killing Sisters of Battle tier. Though pretty fun when you get used to it.
>>97975315Judge Holden in Word Bearers armor.
>>97975120Of course, who else are you going to torture after a hard day's work of beating your factory slaves
>>97975508Sums it up basically
>>97975140>I love the daemon worship and how being possessed is a great privilegeWord Bearers used to hold daemons in contempt. Did this change at some point?
>>97975823I don't remember that being a thing honestly
>>97976155
>>97976268Index astartes?
>>97976311Codex CSM, the latter one from the 3rd edition.
>>97976331Ah, it's been on a shelf for more than a decade, no wonder I didn't remember.
>>97976353 (Me)>think about itFuck, it's probably more like TWO decades now...
Would you guys think that the current CSM CP be a good start for a Word Bearers army?
>>97974853>I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the Black Legion represent CSM as a whole in the same way that Ultramarines represent a great majority of Space Marines. That's a terrible parallel because the fact the Ultramarines aren't (mono) maniacal is actually pretty irregular and a major reason why they are as successful as they are.The Black Legion are the poster boys (IC and OOC) because they descend from Horus and Abaddon leveraged that into a privileged position. That's it.
>>97976589Seems pretty fluffy for them at least.
>>97976589Yeah, pretty good.
>>97975823No, it's still a thing, but Possession and Daemon Princes are a different thing since they're Space Marines first/were Space Marines and not purely Neverborn.
>>97973759I hate how they retconned the Black Legion to crib the Red Corsair's gimmick of being a big conglomeration of traitor marines from all different sources. Their pre-5th eternal seethers and degenerated min-maxers was so much cooler.
>>97973759Yeah, even without pushing away the Black Legion, you could take advantage of the Black Crusades to make them and the Word Bearers alternate as the poster boys>Most of the time, the WB act in the shadows as masterminds, sowing discord, discontent and corruption to degrade the Imperium's authority, efficiency and legitimacy and fill the void with Chaos>Every now and then, Abaddon reaps the results of their work, forcing the new Chaos worshippers to more or less unite under his iron grip and openly threatening the Imperium with themIt would make for an interesting tandem - and rivalry - and be coherent with the progressive ruin of the Imperium over the millenias. If GW wants Chaos to be the cause of everything going wrong within the Imperium, they might as well do it with a faction with which it makes actual sense
>>97980236The corsairs and legion are different though since legion gets respect/recruits from the other legions and shit and has a rivalry with groups like the true sons warbands who claim to be the real pure sons of horus (truth), while Corsairs recruit loyalists who are disgruntled and want to be rad pirates and shit.
>>97973095I'm out of 40k at this point but love their color scheme.
>>97981544As long as you paint the shoulder pad field dark grey/black. I know It is HH slop and not the original paint scheme, but It just works.
My Word Bearers love Chaos Xenos as their existence proves the primordial over-arching nature of the Chaos Gods as the true deities of all creation. It brings them joy to slaughter the weakling unbelievers and sacrifice entire civilian populations alongside the mutants and xenos alike.
Any good bits for hooded helmets/more priesty? I want to make a squad of chosen. I have plans to use defiled SoB relics and Greenstuff World demon cherubs, but I would like some helmets with hoods that don't look too loyalist.
Which will come firstGW finally respecting Chaos Undivided or Dark Eldar being remembered
>>97986451neither
>>97986451idk.. GW has been recently pushing a lot of the Undivided Traitor Legions with all the Iron Warrior stuff recently along with the new Defiler having so many modification options for the individual Legions.Dark Eldar are far more likely to remain in the trash bin imo.
>>97986663The Eldar havn't been updated since the early 2000s
Love my WB, and my big mace apostle
>>97986775*Dark Eldar
