Does anyone else here play dropzone commander? I've been playing it for the last 10 years but I rarely see threads about it. I bought the terrain box for it and the buildings are the right size to also work for flames of war (another game i rarely see threads about). Am I just so deep into the weeds that I play these rare games that no one else does?
I haven't played it in over a year at least, but a few of us who play Dropfleet somewhat regularly are looking forward to trying out 3rd edition come August.
>>97979901Cool. I play the teleporting aliens. I can't remember how to spell their names so I'm just calling them that. I remember one game in particular where I drew the card to teleport my troops off the field when they were holding an objective. My opponent was pissed but he couldn't find a rule that said I couldn't teleport off the board with an objective. Better days. I moved during Covid and now I'm in a town with few wargamers. I can still find 40k matches but none of the other game I played when I lived in Toronto are played here.
>>97979962Shaltari bullshit like that was fun! I do miss playing Dropzone, but you might have to do the usual alternate wargame thing of getting a second starter sized army to entice people to try.I know there used to be a dedicated general for it on here a few years back, but it died down as interest waned due to Dropzone being neglected for a while and v2 being less popular than v1 overall.
>>97980065I remember 1 day I was riding on the train and I was sitting next to a Muslim guy. He asked me what was in my case so I showed him the models. He was immediately interested and said "so its like a mind war?" and I said "absolutely". He seemed very interested in it. I hope it inspired him to give war gaming a try.
I haven't played since I moved last year, but I went all-in in 1st edition and had every factions full SKU, except Resistance. Scourge were so fun. The terrain still sees use all over the place for lots of games, so nowadays you are more likely to see the terrain being used than the game being played.
>>97979877Bought the starter set and everything was a warped piece of shit and none of the ships fit their flight stands, widgets or not. Game looks fun, experience has been terrible.
>>97979877They're remaking some of the starters on plastic. The old UCM starter seems to be OOP already.
>>97979901I really enjoyed 1E, but fell out of playing for a while. Downloaded the 2E rulebook the other day and I'm not sure how I feel about some of the changes. Also, renaming the Moscow-class and UCM having a Famous Admiral they explicitly avoid using pronouns for sets of alarm bells in my mind for other reasons.I've still got all my Kickstarter models, so I'm holding out hope I'll be able to convince someone local to pick the game up.
