Are pre-releases still something you enjoy attending? Do you go to any kind of organized play otherwise?

If you weren't already aware, Andrew Navaro did another interview with Team Covenant this previous wekk and it was a very insightful discussion around games. Much of the beginning was focused on the starting of their company and plans for the next boardgame project, which if you're interested you can go back and view. However the other half of the discussion was on the card game release model, what they chose for Hubworld and what the future may hold for other cardgame ventures from Earthborne Games. It's a delightful chat and a look into the game industry from an experienced designer.

Yeah, I love them. I tend to go to 2-3 every set release.
I go to pretty much every event my LGS hosts for my game.

Gundam enjoyers, is going second still the objectively correct choice every time? If not, which decks prefer going first?

>optcg rant
The january set was undeniably OP's golden era. 7 out of 8 of the new leaders were viable, relatively cheap to build, had actual weaknesses, had unique playstyles and were actually fun to run. Not only that but there was actually support for older leaders that either shot them to relevancy or at least made them fun rogue decks to steal wins with...
...and it lasted like three weeks.

The next mini set came out and powercrept yellow, and then not even a full 2 months later this most recent op15 set came out and completely just raped the game.

I actually don't think purple enel was intentional. I don't think it was an attempt to cash out on the one piece hype by forcing people to buy new cards with a broken new leader. I think it blindsided everybody.
It was a deck with clear weaknesses and bad matchups when everybody first started testing it on sim. It's only now a few weeks out that people realize that if you just make it a generic purple goodstuff deck that it completely negates so many of its weaknesses and turns it into the current purple tumor we have.

The Rune deramp system ruined this game
>>
Someone in the last thread asked if Battle Spirits was still going to release sets in their old format. The answer is yes. We should get a new Eternal set this month. Not sure what the long term cadence is going to be, but their roadmap for the next year featured a Standard set every three months and an Eternal set every six months.
>>
>>97987564
Knowing Bandai, it was intentional. You must never trust Bandai. It was always fuck up and powercreep
>>
OP TCG should have traits not colors

Freedom Luffy
Chaos Doflamingo
Order Sakazuki
Domination Imu
Mental Vegapunk

I'm not good or anything but I think it depends on how many (lv-1)cost unit you are running. I'm pretty happy to go second as clan but most of my opponents choose to go first

Will they also have equipment whose strength vary according to rarity and cards that are variations of deal 1 damage?

i want to buy everything PvP for ashes, what sets do i go for? is reborn better than ascendancy in terms of PvP balance?
>>
>>97988121
>i want to buy everything PvP for ashes, what sets do i go for?
then... everything? there isn't any packs that is pure pve. if theyre still selling the $500 all in I'd just get that it you want everything. its like 30% off and has a bunch of older shit that's getting harder to find.
piccy is the buyng guide off the reddit. if you want to know what pvp cards are in each set look at
>ashes.live/decks/?preconstructed

>is reborn better than ascendancy in terms of PvP balance?
the reborn master set had more pvp decks but no pve. the ascendancy box only has 2 pvp decks but they are better balanced. broad strokes, precon deck balance has improved over time so ascendancy > red rains > time cycle > older shit.
not worth sweating tho since you can just break apart and rebuild the precons you don't like.

OP isnt really a gear rich setting so no. Id change event cards to be based on things the characters do instead of REMEMBER THIS MANGA MOMENT bullshit and add quick effects too

>>
>>97987564
Yeah it definitely seems like they expected Enel to just play stuff from his own archetype (which was already quite strong on its own), but stuff like Gamma Knife and Senor Pink to reuse it likely escaped their internal playtest.

Deramping makes you feel like you took a step back and most Rift decks use units that lack the deramp tolls proving my point that its fucking shit.

TQ: No, but I went to the last MTG prerelease at a LCS with a friend who plays and there was less than 10 people. Made me happy people are playing so many other games than MTG.

Nobody cares about how it makes you feel, it's a balanced system. If you don't want to deramp, play a ramp deck that that specifically plays cards that don't deramp you.

>most Rift decks use units that lack the deramp tolls
Literally not true. You don't play the game, retard.

I think I have an interesting Vex deck possible, basically use Green Vex to cover Sona and use Sona to have your combat tricks ready and your fatasses Holding. Not sure about the ratios/staples though so any help would be welcome.

Does having your hero tapped stop its triggered abilities that don't a tap to activate, like Verdance?
>>
>>97989535
Nah, you can use it on a non-tap power hero to at least get the ponder effect. For a hero that requires themselves to tap, effects like this are dual edged, but still have a use for when you can't get value out of the hero ability in the turn you play something like this.

Did GD04 fix the meta?
Is Turn A a fun deck regardless of its strength?
>>
>>97988074
cool thing about this is even if the level 3 isnt very threatening it's already still good. charges only cost about 0.5 mana since you're nornally getting something else with the charge effect as an add-on. so right off you're getting two fading 0/1s for 1.5, but as long as they live a turn and you can move charges (like with reconfigure) you can upgrade them to 2/2s for +0.5 each. so potentially 3 mana for two 2/2s, that have the ability to be upgraded further.

that;s a lot of meat for what your spending, and if you keep doing it you can win just on trading and grinding them down. only problem is its slow to make the snap traps since they need a turn each to convert so you have this point of weakness when the snapseeds are hanging out there and easy to kill. but you can just keep fucking making em. opponent would need heavy AOE to stop it going every round.

Any card as a resource, dedicated resource cards in main deck, or dedicated resource cards in a dedicated deck?
>>
>>97989887
Digimon's tug of war resources but in a better game
>>
>>97989887
assuming you want continuous resource ramp (which all of those do), 'any card a resource' is the most versatile of those. doesn't fuck over deckbuilding and RNG like lands do, but also isn't limiting like the forced 2nd deck. the only problem with 'any card' is its very vanilla feeling on its own so you need something extra to give the players interesting resourcing decisions.
> SWUs draw 2, resource 1 is a very simple way to do that that forces the player to make an important filtering decision every single turn
> if you want a color pie, you can do the duelma thing and require resourced cards to share colors with the thing they're paying for. alpha clash is a current game that does that.
> one I love is the quests from wow. resource any card, but quest cards can be a resource and do something else too. so deckbuilding is still balancing curves like a land system, but you're not just fucked over if the draw doesn't give you any quests or too many quests.

Entirety of a dedicated dice pool available at the start.
>>
>>97986444
None does. Unless you are extremely confident in your level requirements (for example, the popular "spellcaster" red deck, which includes Close Combat and Improved Technique, that are its common low level cards). This game would greatly benefit from chosing turn order AFTER cards are drawn.
>>
What do you think about this
>resource cards in deck
>as long as you have one resource of a color in play you can use any card from that color
>only one resource may be played per turn
This would provide a somewhat ramp for multidecks but still not be too restrictive

EN Holoka roadmap dropped yesterday. Instead of getting the Summer Booster after Set 8 like JP we're getting it after Set 7 and a month after it releases in JP. We'll have to wait and see how much more this changes the EN meta.
>>
>>97990751
That's going to have most of the same problems as Lands

>>97990676
ashes is the shit, but the dice aren't something I'd copy. Carrying around extra components is a pain in the dick. Gotta be a better way to do that.
>>
>>97991095
>ashes is the shit, but the dice aren't something I'd copy.
>>97990676
I think the dice are based. It's easy to balance cards around how many symbols can likely appear in anyone's given dice pool. That has to be a major boon for the developers when designing new cards and assigning appropriate value to cost.
>>
>>97990728
so tldr i should always pick second even on something like OYW aggro?
>>
>>97991175
>balance cards around how many symbols can likely appear in anyone's given dice pool
that's not really how they work. you know how many dice you have of each color and you can change the faces after the roll. so cards can't be balanced around how likely they are. it's just more faces in a color forcing tighter mana spreads and making it harder to splash.

>>97992299
As I said I have no idea what I am doing but wouldn't Blast Cone X 2 be better than those Ride the Wind? It costs 1 more but it adds Stun to every time you Move an enemy, which that deck will be doing a lot it seems, so likely more useful. How it seems to me at least. But yes, Vex has been extremely fun for me so far. The "Did He Hide a Zhonya or a Back Off" minigame with Mocking Vex in play is not something people enjoy playing, but heir KhaZix/Rengar ambush going sour over it is hilarious to me.
>>
>>97991290
They don't play level 1 cards, if they go second they can play a unit on the first turn. There is no good solution, and the extra level is always a benefit for your more powerfull cards.
>>
>>97986343
I wanted to love this game...and the mechanics seem fun...but man the art has still failed to grow on me at *all*
I guess I'm the problem?
>>
>>97993430
IMO the game's art has an issue where it seems to have basically no direction other than just sort of soft-apeing other stuff, so it'll always look off
