that's a must. you need to maximise your landfall chances. the rest is fluff, i'd maybe cut 2 tifas, and add some Harmonisers. Maybe a Surak or two. Bite Down and Ouroborid are bad against control decks, but work well against mirror matches. Hyrda is Elemental, so great against bounceback elementals deck. Keen-Eye is greens graveyard protection. Ba Sing, and Sapling Nursery great against board wipes. Nature's Rythm plays really well with Baloths, Cub's and Ouroborids. Search for Cub, then Ouroborid/Icetil is normal play, but it can also search for Baloth and do haste 3 damage for a kill a lot of times. Add depending on what's currently played.

Are there any cards I can run to fetch combo pieces early in Pioneer? I’m running a fundamentally good combo but it can’t all be out until turn 6 at the earliest (and that’s assuming perfect draws) and I keep getting fucked on because of it. I’m running a Mardu midrange deck if that matters. I don’t want to clutter my deck too much with non-creatures/non-damage spells and I already have a few in there to protect my enchantments and fish them back out of the graveyard.

There's sites that can bury you up to your eyeballs in raw data like "percentage of players who won the game after having card X in their hand" but for a very new player your best bet is going to be using a site like scryfall to look at the entire set so you know what the cards are and what they do, and then drafting. Typically you want a 40 card deck with roughly 23 spells and 17 lands, and most of your spells should be creatures. Try to draft a curve where most of your spells cost 2-3 mana with a smaller number of cheaper and more expensive spells. Sets these days are made with very explicit draft lanes where a small number of color combinations have mechanical support, so as long as you stay in one of those lanes there's a pretty high floor of basic functionality.

Beyond that, the single best way to learn to draft and see what cards are effective is to draft a bunch. Watch videos of other people drafting. Think about what happened differently in games you won vs. games you lost, and try to distinguish between results-oriented thinking and natural variance in outcomes.

For 2 mana you can get regrowth at instant speed
This is 5 mana for a 3/4 body + regrowth which is a pointless upgrade over witness, so you need to pay SEVEN mana before you've something that does more than those options

Nah this is way better than witness. I can just cast it on turn 2 or 3 and not have to worry about having something in my graveyard, it's a good size body to stop early game aggression, vigilance is great, and if it sticks around you have to kill it before you kill my Dellian Fel or Sheoldred that I play the next turn. Witness just sits in your hand in the early game, this needs to be answered, it doesn't even matter if you get a second Regrowth cast, or even a first one.

We already have a 6/6 for 3 mana and it won't stop any of the aggro decks swinging into you nor will it kill their planeswalker hidden behind a million tokens

2 mana for regrowth and 3 mana for regrowth + 2/1 body are both playable competent cards, and we already have one of those in standard and its not seeing any play. Now we've got a dumb 3/4 for 3 in a format where a 3 drop in green will be a 64/64 trample on turn 4 and kill the opponent in 1 hit through any number of blockers

I find it funny how everyone decided that Witherbloom is the worst archetype in draft, so people ignore it so much that I get constructed level synergy and had something like 5 trophies already out of 10 drafts. The downside is that I draft on arena solely to get better at LGS drafts and I basically get no experience with other archetypes, or I force it and lose because everyone else tries to build BW/RW too.

What's a good guide for someone new who wants to brew decks? run quick drafts with 17lands open and look at the cards in your pack. look at what they all do, and decide which ones you think are good and why they're good. then compare your ideas with 17lands data. its not perfect, but you should start seeing patterns of which cards are good and which ones are not. you are now learning what tends to make a card good in limited

a head start: cards are good when they impact the board. making stats and removing stats are the best things you can do in a vacuum. you also want cards that can generate card advantage within the framework of adding to the board. so divination is unplayable dogshit because it doesn't make or remove stats, but something like ravenous chupacabra is goated because it makes stats while also going 2-for-1

The main issue with trying to learn in quick draft is that the bots aren't trying to build decks, and one of the true secrets of improving at draft is both figuring out what lanes are open and also learning to rely on cards which are good or even great in your deck but other players won't want. It does little good to learn card evaluation in a vacuum without being in the environment where that evaluation is tested. I'd recommend watching draft videos at that point just to build card familiarity and heuristics over quick draft.

Sorry if I was unclear, I completely agree with you that premier draft doesn't make sense for them right now, I just personally don't think that quick draft is helpful. Not sure how much of that is spite for how many sets were exclusively bot drafting before Arena unfucked itself a little, but I do think the fact that lanes are a lot muddier means the skills don't translate much beyond card familiarity. It's possible sealed might be a good choice and that's typically where I recommend people start, but it's also a bit of a mess these days because the high synergy environment means it's a lot harder to just cobble together whatever commons and uncommons are in the same color as your two best rares and hope for a functional deck.

Got it. I didn't notice that season ends in 14 days, so nothing special about it.

I did get in at 97%, so I guess that deck isn't that bad. I previously played 3 Maelstom Artisans instead of Fear of Being Hunted, and it's not nearly as effective. Fear can take out a lot of things by forcing things to block it. Fun deck, stealing 6/6 demons for win is great entertainment.

Excuse the blog, I haven't played in a while and I don't lurk, so most of what I say isn't new to anyone paying attention. I played Green/Black Rock in Pioneer for three days. Went from Bronze to Mythic. Started with a bog-standard Rock netdeck and then altered it into the abomination it is here.

I typically like black midrange decks cause that resembles older styles of play, so I shelled out rares and mythic rare wildcards I got from a hot streak in draft.

God, I hate wizards making lands worth a rare slot, cause it is so neccessary to shill out. I started with 4 mutavauls and no overgrown tombs, but I had to make a change cause the beginning of the game is too fucking tight. I know Blooming Marsh is good, but I need mana untapped for turn four and five. If I were to make the best deck possible I'd have this exact same deck, but with less basic lands.

So, is Badger Mole Cub good? No. I was very disappointed. True there were some games where the earthbending was relevant, but I felt like it just wasn't good enough. I would rather have threats.
