In real D&D, these niggas (i.e. all relevant demons and devils) can teleport at will. They should NEVER be killed by hapless mortals if a DM is playing objectively.

I know 5e zoomies have a tantrum if they don't win every encounter, and that includes an enemy escaping. How do the modern rules explain demons and devils not just teleporting away every time if a battle goes against them? Or a vampire turning into gaseous form, etc? Do the 1st level fighters have a cantrip called 'Block Teleport' or something? (I don't even bother to ask how a 1st level wizard deals with it, probably Disintegrate-At-Will, right?)

lol, so it's what I thought. Just automatic wins so the Modern Player doesn't get upset. The Lecherous Furry Bard has a song that auto-charms them, doesn't he?

"75% Magic Resistance" alone is enough to send 5e players running to Reddit for comfort.

Can't you just use counterspell when he uses teleport? I don't know rules of this ancient version.

Hello Buffalo Bill, you really need to mask your posting style just a little bit. We know violent ideation is your core essence but it's tired at this point.

Hannibal Lecter really pegged you, lol: "Of each particular thing, ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature?"

>Can't you just use counterspell when he uses teleport? I don't know rules of this ancient version.
There is no counter-spell in AD&D. The game was good (not perfect, but good) about limiting the number of game-ruining spells available even to beginning characters in 5e. If you want to play in a world of verisimilitude, it makes sense the Demon Lord isn't going to stand there and let a bunch of human dorks chop him to death.
>>
>>98006298
Oh. Okay. Can't you create a dead magic zone or something like that?

I'm not too familiar with 1st edition DND but isn't this basically an unwinnable fight? The adds a lone sound like they lead to at least one death.
Plus he has so many ways to manipulate the fight.

How fast can you do 106 damage to something with his AC and resist?

The 75% MR really limits direct magic attacks, so your best bet is buffed fighters or indirect magic like trying to get a cavern roof to collapse on him. But that's what makes it fun and challenging, you're not going to beat a powerful demon with a typical 5e encounter "We open there's a door and we see a monster and we know he will never do anything but fight to the death (what's morale? what's a reaction roll?) He's a 5000 year old demon who rules layers of the Abyss? lol, ok, whatever, he's dead."

Really? Do they have infinite magical stamina to teleport forever? How does it stop them from being stealth killed or speed blitzed before they can react? Why would they want to vanish if interrupted during a sensitive task? Maybe you're just projecting unconditional comic book logic onto them

>Really? Do they have infinite magical stamina to teleport forever?

Once per round. You know, just like a 5e PC can cast one cantrip per round with their infinite magical stamina forever.

>How does it stop them from being stealth killed or speed blitzed before they can react?

Because this is AD&D, not 5e where a first level PC can do 120 points of damage. Also note his Genius IQ. He's not falling for your midwit Reddit pranks and stratagems.

>Why would they want to vanish if interrupted during a sensitive task?

"Hey, I specifically said I'll teleport if I'm losing a fight. But the 5e DM here says I'd never do that and would risk death just in case I win and can resume my sensitive task"

baphomet is a fucking Demon Lord, the kinds of parties fighting him will be stupidly high level and dripping with legendary gear and likely some items specifically designed to fuck over evil outsiders. It's like posting the stats of Outer Gods from 3.5 and acting like normal parties were fighting CR 30 enemies, by the time you're curb stomping Cthulhu you're well above curve.

The AD&D monster manual also has stats for other demon lords like Grazzt and Pazuzu, the average party isn't fighting them any more than they're fighting Cthulhu.

Isn't there a system shock roll for teleporting? Also iirc, spells only go off if you don't get hit. Trying to teleport away because you're getting hit sounds hard when getting hit cancels your teleport.
>>

>>98006056
To give a completely serious answer to your un-serious question

Baphomet does in fact, get 1/day Teleport, so there is nothing stopping him from teleporting away if he starts losing.

In fact, he also gets 3 Legendary Resistances per day, which allows him to succeed on a saving throw when he otherwise would have failed. If he was played by a smart DM, he could save one of these in case his teleport got counter spelled.

All of this info is in MMPM or MToF which are both not hard to find if you do the bare minimum searching.

Heh heh those 1st level 5e players got me good, I didn't know a mortal wizard's cantrip could do 110 damage, fuck, I didn't even know cantrips were a thing. I really don't know why I didn't teleport away when I was down to 5 hp, that was stupid, maybe my INT really isn't genius. Oh well, I gotta spend the next millennium here in the Abyss, no biggie, let's see what I reformed a--ACK!!!

Counterspell in the 2014 rules doesn't give a saving throw, and Baphomet lacks a new statblock within any of the 2024 material.

However, Counterspell does still require line of sight, and Baphomet can simply use Mirage Arcane as a Lair Action. So he can just fill the entire room with lava and teleport out if that doesn't work for whatever reason.

>>98006056
So to give a roundabout answer, the modern rules limit how often Baphomet can teleport, but if you play it smart he'll never need to run away.
>>
>>98006056
>How do the modern rules
Because I am the DM and say so
>They should NEVER be killed by hapless mortals if a DM is playing objectively.
That's in any edition. If you fail to keep your Baphomet alive against lower level PCs then the faggotry is within you, not the system (I'm not saying 5e isn't gay, just that you are).
>>
>>98008801

Why are you pretending that I am? Read "Baphomet" in my post just like you read in OP's, "all relevant demons and devils". If they die to scrubs in your 5e game that's your faggotry, not the game's.
