Like the title says i was thinking just copy pasting most of 5e but i heard online some new stuff like draw steel or dagger heart could work. It doesn't have to support stuff like tanking or spamming spells me and my group are looking for a more narrative system. Any ideas?
>>980160594e kind of has an MMO feel to it.
>>98016059Video games. They are really good at being video games.
>>98016059I was once playing using homebrew mixing 3.5e with Warcraft RPG. Basically one was allowed to use classes from both.
I think about it sometimes and I still have to find the right answer. Sometimes when I'm desperate I I look at GURPS, but honestly I think levelling up is such a part of the general feel of playing both WoW and WC3 that you are missing something if you remove them.A thing to consider is if you want a Warcraft game or a WoW game, those can be quite different. Your focus on narrative makes me think you lean towards the former, in that case you could rework something like an edtion of L5R: you lose having the stat differences between races, but in a narrative focused game it shouldn't be a big problem, and you have more than enough nuance with using and creating spells and abilities to keep that warcraft feel.In case you want a more traditional approach, I still have to find the right fantasy game to use as a base. It doesn't help that we usually don't play that much fantasy, and the times we do it's because someone has a D&D itch, and I'd rather not.
>>98016059Why would you want a world of warcar adventure? Its such a kosher setting its absolutely embarassing. I would be fucking humiliated to admit I liked it to even the staunchest obscure D&D setting nerds. I'd feel like an absolute orc fetish freak as anthropomorphized as they are. Have you no shame?
>>98016202>world of warcarI didn't know they made a world of tanks/gaslands collab
>>98016193>L5RThis could work.Speaking for 5E, there's already a system set in place for different races, except that you handle the race as a family choice or a title that gives you all the toys from the start, we're talking stuff like a +1 in a ring maybe, to reflect the stat differences (but those are not that race-dependant, it's mostly up to class) and the race abilities. This is to move away from the race-as-class of the base game.School is the class, no wonder here. You have to tweak access to pretty much everything, so you are probably better off creating advancement tables from scratch. Class spec is an additional title that relies on the relevant ring. You are a warrior, you choose to be tank, you're obviously going to perform better with a high Earth ring. You want to be Fury, go Fire, etc. Do remember that for spellcasters the ring would define the approach, but not necessarily the element of the spells. A druid can shapeshift and go Air to be a cat, or Earth to be a bear, but you can argue about the tree form being Water (mainly because water is the healing ring for L5R, but adaptability is kinda a healer thing), or more probably Earth. But, a spellcasting druid could go Fire ring to use damaging spells (unless you want to tie Arcane magic to Void). The best thing as always is to have a chat with your players to flesh out their character concept, but you have the games to rely on as reference for abilities and effects, and the ruleset has almost everything you could need out of the box.You would have to refluff spells and the like, but chances are everyone at the table already knows what he's in for so you can just focus on writing down the mechanical effects, and making new ones is pretty easy. Most of the prep work would be statting enemies, but there's a fair number of books for the system that give you a lot of stuff already, reskin them and you're set.
>>98016059>heard online some new stuff like draw steel or dagger heart could workYou heard marketing lies.
Drums of War is a system built for itthe pdf should still be around somewhere if you look
>>98016059??There literally already exists a set of official World of Warcraft RPG books. They're freely available online.
>>98016892Its a slide thread
Some anon made a pretty comprehensive Warcraft setting for Genesys.
>>98016059There is a canonically correct answer actually.It is 3.5 D&D.https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/World_of_Warcraft:_The_Roleplaying_Game
>>98016884Advancement looks fluffy and in line with the game, but I only found rules for creating characters, no examples of enemies at all.
>>98016958I only heard bad things about that
>>98016059There's a Warcraft Genesys hack called "Adventures in Azeroth" you can find if you search the archives or go here.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eRlO1f_GwG3Il9_o4Stu99BAtEJYjr5y/edit
>>98016202I don't think there is anything to be ashamed of in liking Warcraft.>but modern WoW-Yes I know, just take the things you like from the setting and disregard everything else like everyone does.
>>98016917>>98018919Never tried it out, how is the game? I mean, when the alternative is D&D it's hard to be worse, but I don't really see the game discussed.
>>98019194If you mean Genesys, the short version is that it's a generic system built on the bones of FFG Star Wars - a moderate crunch system using proprietary dice for multidimensional narrative results. There's an active general you can ask around for more specific questions.>>97841240
Whats the vibe youre going for? I did a lot in WoW between vanilla and WotLK and it really just devolved into an interactive chat room for me and my friends, we kept coming back but really the setting for me stopped making sense after a while,
>>98019213Didn't think about checking if there was a general, fuck me. I do like FFG game design of that era, we had good fun with the 40k games and Star Wars came right after those so I hope it's alright.
>>98019230Like most things, keep things near ground level and you get the most fun out of it. When you routinely grind epic level threats to collect loot it loses its charm after a while, but when you're a party of fuckers venturing into a dungeon and the big surprise after the boss fight is keepking his blue weapon it's cool.I still think there's a lot to be learned from wow instances for dungeon design.
I'm currently running a Warcraft campaign using Nimble RPG weekly with my friends. We are about 8 sessions in over the past 3 months. It's an island-hopping piracy campaign. Currently the group has just arrived in Booty Bay and are investigating a mutiny within the Blackwater Raiders ranks. For warcraft, Nimble certainly works as a system for what I want. Low-Medium crunch, some bits of tactical combats/spell combos. Excellent solo boss rules. Some "reflavoring" has to be done, but you can map almost all of the classes to their WoW counterparts.
>>98019262>Nimble RPGFirst time I hear of this.
>>98017384Being sorta jank and bad is basic warcraft (any of them) experience desu.
>>98022046Maybem but I'd rather not just play a literally reskinned D&D
>>98016059Genesys has a good fan supplement.
