GW doesn't seem to be very good at writing fun rules every edition so anons here say.So what are some well written and fun wargames where 40k minis can be easily reused?
- Older editions of 40k- Alternative 40k rulesets like ProHammer- One Page RulesAnd, if you are willing to put on the effort you could always homebrew 40k armies into similar systems you like more (i.e. bolt action, horus heresy, aos, etc)
/40kg/'s thread OP has "alternative rules."I don't think anybody has noticed or cares.>https://www.starbreach.com/home>https://nolimitswargames.wordpress.com/I would like to know of more.
>>98016305Always worth pointing out that much of 40k's modern DNA comes from a hastily-converted WW2 set Rick Priestley was homebrewing for his own group's use (3rd ed onwards). To that end, any set of rules that handle tanks and the like should work, for a given value of 'work', though you'll likely have to put in some effort for melee and of course psychics, until it passes your own personal taste test. But then thats how most game designers start, of course, with 'mods'!Never forget: the rules you use can be changed. A cool model that you like is forever.

>>98016354>modernHow modern are we talkikng?
>>98016292brikwars? skrungloids? old editions of 40k?
>>98016393I'll admit I've not played a great deal of the last edition, but fixed hit values and the like are what I was thinking of. It still tastes more of 3rd than RT or 2nd to me, although heavily diluted now of course.
>>98016443I was asking because the game system changed quite a bit in later editions, I play older editions myself, so I was wondering if you were referring to 3rd or the one that changed the formula...I think it was 8th?Because having 8th ed being based on an old alternative ruleset would have surprised me.
>>98016354Priestly hasn't designed 40k for decades.
>>98016467I think it was 8th you're referring to, yes. And you're right, that was a BIG shake-up, more than I've credited it for, on reflection.
>>98016354He was making an igougo WWII ruleset? Lmao my ass off. More proof he had never had a fucking clue what he was doing and 40k is luck + the efforts of others
>>98016695You are correct but that doesn’t make the other anon’s statement wrong. He left for Warlord Games a long time ago and you can tell by looking at Bolt Action that it has a very similar “vibe” to 3rd and 4th editions regarding rules.>>98016393nta, but the way I understood him is the same I’d say “modern history” to refer to the 19th century. Not RT old but not contemporary either
>>98016292/awg/ is your placeBeside well playing older edition. Personally I play 3rd/4th. 3rd edition army rules with 4th edition rules.Even meme armies like Mechanicus, Custodes and clowns have rules in it.The only ones missing are Squats, but nobody likes squats and if you really want to play them Imperial Guard Regimental Doctrines got you cover
