Which is more fun to play: Magic the Gathering or Pokemon TCG? Gameplay specifically, not collecting

t. card game noob who wants to play one or the other

I prefer mtg as a game. But if you want to try pokemon get the gb pokemon tcg and emulate it.

MtG is in a shambles rn unfortunately

Run nigger.
Run and never come back.
TCG's are a wretched format.
You have power creep, scalpers, metas, ban lists, and cards cycling out seasonally, and the inevitability that your one friend who takes winning too seriously will overinvest and personally murder your kitchen table scene with a two hundred dollar tourney deck, thus destroying your ability to ever care about it again.

If you are still interested, play Pokemon if it has to be one of the three.

Though for my money "Sorcery" looks worth a shake.

A lot of the time, older card games accrue too much bloat and power creep to be fun.

If you have to get into Magic, play Pauper. You'll probably find a ton of people playing Commander, but that's been heavily enshitified by direct corporate interference and there are people who will bring a $4000 turn 1 win deck to the same table as "dinosaur tribal" and "I grabbed cards facedown until the pile looked like about 100, my commander is a 2/3 for 5 with no card text" and tell you they aren't powergaming because it doesn't win on turn 0. Pauper isn't perfect either, but because it's all commons and those can only be so expensive, nobosy can just buy their way into a pubstomper. And it's still mechanically fun and interesting, there's a lot of good commons and a lot of fun interactions.

learn to draft mtg online using free websites and cockatrice. do not give wotc a cent.

once you get comfortable with the rules, learn how to cube. from there, make a cube from proxies (you can find decklists on cubecobra) and play that.

you get the only remaining good part of magic and give zero dollars to a trash fire of a company this way.

pokemon is for little kids so i don't think it would be suited for you.

>make a cube from proxies
90% of mtg cards are worth less than a dollar. It's easy to make a synergistic fun cube without all the chase cards of the game. WoTC aren't getting money when you buy old "junk" cards from a third party for less than a proxy costs.

MTG is a much better game, but JotC is not to be trusted or invested in. Emulate or proxy.
Digimon is a better game than pokemon but you still get to stack your guys if that's your thing.
Sorcery:contested realms is a newer tcg that seems interesting if nothing else. A little on the expensive side, but probably not much more than mtg will be in the long run all-in.

Magic has a lot of small, niche formats so even if the official formats are all exclusively shit, you may find some fun in Premodern, 93/94 OS, shits like Penny Dreadful etc.

I have quite liked dandan

Pokemon was fun when it still supported double battles. That was the last time I played.
MtG is good played casually but the competitive meta seems to have skewed towards turn 1 rape.

So it's turning into Yugioh?
At least tell me their one turn kill isn't going to take fifteen minutes while they painstakingly activate chains of effects that allow them to search for more effect monsters and spell cards to activate other effects, to etc.

Baseline mechanics? MtG, hands down. The core of the game is well-structured, the interactions consistent, and it doesn't have a winmore snowball like prize cards.

However, given the current state of MtG, I can't recommend that anyone pick it up.

Hi, it's me, the guy who posted here thousands of years ago and a name fag.

If you play in a kitchen with only 1 friend, pokémon is fine and you can buy preconstruct decks quickly, however it's bad at more than 1vs1 since it's not supported whatsoever.
Mtg, while being SHIT has at least a solid rule fundation.

So MAKE YOUR OWN CARDS and have fun.
I'm at my 6th deck now, I'm sure that you retards can do as much.
Cheers.
