>Outfoxxing scummy metagamers>"I heard there are lots of ircs in this adventure. Ill set them as a favored enemy">Change them to bugbears
>>98023987IRCs?
>>98024002Yeah, like mIRC, mibbit, Nettalk, ircII. They're common opponents in 5th ed modules.
>>98024002orcs, op is a fag
>>98024015You've got your editions confused, friend. They were super popular enemies in 3 and 3.5 but eventually started getting replaced by vents, teamspeaks, and eventually discords shortly thereafter. You only see ircs in grog-led hardcore campaigns now.
>>98023987who are you quoting?
>>98024015I remember trolling in mibbit. Fuck I'm old.
>>98024106if you aren't 55+ your still warm
>>98024015Bro I haven't seen anyone fight anything but a discord in years.
>>98024060That's simply because IRC requires higher expression of player skill, something 5etards are totally uninterested in.
>>98024153Ircs do require a little more player skill to deal with than discords, but even room-temperature IQ players in 3.5 could deal with them. I think discords are a downgrade from ircs too, but mostly I think you're just upset that the game in general and its playerbase has changed.
>>98023987Pff amateur I tell them there's going to be lots of orcs then I change them to something completely different
>>98024207IRCs felt less tropey. Yes you were dealing with a smaller, pre-Critical Role playerbase in 3.x but you still got plenty of fucked-up shit without every IRC needing to have a resident catboy, puppygirl etc. like discord. Half the time two completely different discord adventures feel exactly the same in play.
The real question is how a bugbear replaces a fucking chatroom.
>>98024228By trolling, of course
>>98024207>>98024220>irc renaissance grogs think they're hardcorethe true test of turn-based combat mettle is emailthose encounters have the highest skill ceiling and offer deep strategic gameplayyou simply cannot beat the experience offered by the Generic Universal Messaging System
>>98024153I hear that 5e is more lethal if you don't make good characters though, like it's some version of rocket tag
>>98024365Yeah yeah you can use GUMS for everything you can even use it to play Civilization and Diplomacy we’ve heard it all before.
>>98023987Choosing a favored enemy that's actually relevant to the campaign may be metagaming, but it's not particularly scummy. A GM - who holds all the cards and has no need to outfox anyone - intentionally making sure that a player's chosen class features won't see use during the campaign is genuinely pretty scummy, though.
>>98024757Specialization may be cool, but it also risks limiting options. You have a fighter specializing in one weapon, he's stuck with that weapon for all time. The ranger wants a favored enemy, so what is the GM to do? Put that enemy everywhere? Depending on the type, the favored enemy may not appear. Is it a dick move? You play Only War and have a campaign against Orks, players build their chars and take weapons to kill Orks better. The campaign is over, people still want to play. Are you forced to put them against Orks again and again? What if they have to deal with Eldar?I see no easy way out of this.
>>98024894Imo, if the whole party is on an even paying field then it's fine, it's only an issue if one player is being fucked over. Sure, the Only War party might be less effective against Eldar but they're all equally less effective so you can just balance the encounters to compensate for that.
>>98024015Did Khaled Mardam-Bey get BTFO'd for trying to revoke the lifetime software licenses he sold?
>>98023987I planned to do this once in WFRP 2e, in Norsca. Local NPCs complaining about 'draugr,' makes Skyrimbrained players assume "oh, it's just wights or zombies." Nah, vampires.Mostly just because I noticed the mythical traits of them overlap heavily with vampires. And because I liked the idea of vampires going on blood orgies during the winter twilight months, then sleeping it off in profaned tombs the rest of the time.

>>98024365>GUMSNo thank you, I'd like to be able to take less than an hour to have a single combatsation
