I'm just curious as to whether there are any modules take place in a casino. Our Pathfinder campaign will likely have the PCs visit the city's biggest gaming house, so I want to channel Casino Royale energy for this one. They're actually here to escort an NPC playing a high-stakes poker game (because none of the PCs have any relevant gambling skills themselves) as the cover for the heist of part of the Rod of Seven Parts, if that helps.
>>98027721Some of the worst games you can play involve minigames.
>>98027759This. Actually involving minigames seems like it's a fun idea but it can be a hassle to organize and actually do and can take a long time. I'm there to play Pathfinder, not Texas Hold 'Em.If you're really after something, I've done a simplified blackjack with relative success several times where I just had people roll several D12s.
The Stygian Gambit for 5e exists
>>98027776Well I was thinking they'd have other things to keep themselves occupied (the rival team of NPCs are there too), since I agree that minigames are terribly-implemented as fuck unless you just abstract them.
>>98027820just apply simple statistics to make all games' expected value to be $0 and turn the statistics into a d20 roll? >2x payout = 1/2 chance >3x payout = 1/3 chance to win etc you can also let players "count the cards" by passing noggin checks and win that way instead, but have a 50/50 chance to get a tap on the shoulder by the security and the complexities entailed
>>98027721Actually yes, there is a SW supplement with a gambling in a city casino IIRC.
>>98027721>I want to channel Casino Royale energyTry looking at the the old James Bond rpg since that had a few adventures based on the movies from the 60s through to the time it was made in the mid 80s, some of those had casino bits I think.
