>kills your paladins

oh noo looks like you have to now break your shitty paladin code and adapt to the new age of warfare unless you wanna see your civilization fall to orcs with guns!

what do paladin and cleric cucks do now? (also druids will be forced to use guns too)
>>
Where in any paladin code does it say "you can't use new weaponry/firearms"? Are you just conflating Bushido with all Paladin oaths?
>>
>>98028385
The most restrictive paladin codes require you to have a horse and not keep more than a certain number of magic items or liquid cash on hand (because you should donate the excess to a good church or charitable religious organization). Nothing says the paladin can't have a gun. Especially if it's not a magic gun. And that's not even in most versions of the code.
>>
>>98028385
What part of any paladin's code would adapting to the use of firearms break, exactly? Also have you considered the impact of magic powers and divine miracles on warfare?
>>

>>98028400
Ey, dere's a freakin' echo in 'ere!
>>
>>98028396
Even that’s wrong because the samurai fucking loved firearms.

When firearms came about, warriors around the world were all like “Fuck yeah”

I'm just taking the most generous assumption about where he's pulling this from, presumably the battle of Shiroyama. I know Japan adopted the rifle pretty quick

Weird, I don't see any prohibition of firearms, or indeed, any weapon restrictions of any sort, in the rules printed in the rulebook.

Surely you didn't make an off-topic, trolling, spam, low quality thread that has nothing to do with any rules of any traditional game, the topic of the board?

You have one hour to apologize before I report you directly to the admins and have your house firebombed.

What? The Great Siege of Malta is like the most paladin action ever fought and it was a bunch of armored kaniggits in a castle vs. orcs with guns (who lost).

>>98028406
>When firearms came about, warriors around the world were all like “Fuck yeah”
Nah, this is going too far. They saw them for the gamechanger they were and adopted them, but e.g. Camillo Agrippa in his fencing manual (1553) seethes about how artillery has ruined honest, artful warfare where personal skill in the handling of arms counts for a great deal.
>>
>>98031052
This is funny because fencing is mostly to posture in duels.
There's no such thing as "honest, artful warfare". Unless you mean impaling your opponents like Vlad. Now that's honest and artful
>>
>>98031129
Buddy, I don't know how old you think I am, but I didn't write that book. You're arguing with a dead guy.

What *I'm* saying is that we have written period proof that it's not true that the warrior class were enthusiastic about the adoption of firearms. Agrippa was just one handy example.
>>
>>98031155
I was never arguing with you. I'm just making fun at a dude going "muh honest, artful war" dawg you are a fencer, dueling inherently involves being dishonest to get an advantage at your opponent

BANG.

The party's paladin instantly falls dead. A massive hole has been blown through his enchanted breastplate.

Hundreds of feet away, a lone warrior stands. He wields a weapon of flint, steel, and fire. A pistol.

A terrible truth dawns on your party: the age of the knights and magic is dead, and the world is now in the age of guns and technology. Flintlocks are being mass produced, making all armor and magic useless. Bullets rip through armor from hundreds of feet away. As science advances, the world loses all faith and wonder, making all magic drain from the world.

How does your party survive in this new age of science and rationality, where the greatest of wizards has been reduced to a mundane old coot?
>>
>>98031370
I teleport the gunner to me without his equipment as a swift action and rape him. I end my turn.
>>
>>98031401
Realistically speaking MAGIC will fail around science and rationality...
>>
>>98031367
Hey bro, Traditional James reporting in here and I can confirm that this is definitely related to me.
>>
>>98031370
The fact it was accurate from hundreds of feet away and didn’t jam is a miracle. Just fucking charge him while he takes an entire minute to reload.

Also if the Paladin is in plate armor, he might actually be just fine.
>>
>>98031370
Most breastplates were pistol-proof, actually. Not musket-proof, but pistol bullets wouldn't go through. Hard to imagine that an enchanted one would just get destroyed by one bullet given that.
>>
>>98028396
Bushido says nothing about guns. Mostly just says be loyal, be honorable, be polite. Doesn't say you can't one-sidedly kill your enemies with trickery, superior weaponry, or traps.
>>
>>98029941
Not seeing any mention of firearms in there.
>>
>>98031476
If they're saying firearms aren't honorable, I feel like Cowboys would disagree.
>>
>>98031472
Bushido was also made up in the 19th century. Or maybe it was the late 18th? Way after the sengoku era anyway.
>>
>>98031460

>>
>>98031488
>>98031495
Point is, no part of that code at any point had provisions about the kind of weapons they could use and still be considered "honorable," but that's also because the actual samurai idea of honor is very different than what we think it means, and mostly involves reasons a samurai should consider killing himself lmao
>>
>>98031501
That's a Napoleonic cuirass, with a hole from grapeshot or canister. Looks like about a 1-pound ball to me. Not a pistol bullet in any case.

Didn't Ned Kelly wear homemade armor that could fend off a .45?
>>

>Didn't Ned Kelly wear homemade armor
Yep.

>that could fend off a .45?
Supposedly, but I don't know what the hard proof vs. tall tale situation is there.

Either way, Ned Kelly's armor is notably thicker and clunkier than 16th century plate armor.

You, having engineered the ultimate weapon, the flintlock pisol, smirk as you pull the trigger, the click is followed by a second as the gunpowder burns.

*BANG*

With enough power to leave your ears ringing, you look upon the paladin, nothing can stop the bullet from slaying him.

The Paladin, master of the sword, raises his blade, a bastard sword made of perfected european steel, he has seen through your weapon.

*CHENK*

The blade slashes the bullet in two, sending each shard far away from the unsullied body of the paladin.

Full of fear you go to ready another bullet... its too late, the paladin is behind you already, years spent practicing the art of war and worshipping piously had made him too fast to percieve.

"While you were studying alchemy i mastered the sword" he says as he mercifully beheads you with a quick strike. "May god have mercy on your soul" you dont even know that your head has been cut until it falls over.

Your weapon was great indeed, but you forgot that you faced the true ultimate weapon, The Paladin.

The code says nothing about weapons. Or not physical ones, anyway.
A paladin's real arms are his spirit, his willingness to step forward to oppose wickedness and to inspire others by his example.
In short, they'll more than adapt. They'll create whole new legends.

Popularized by the 1899 book of an ameriboo coming to the US, with the main other written source being by a retired office-clerk-turned-monk from a samurai family in the early 18th century. Earliest known reference by name in a 1616 chronicle of the Takeda clan.
There were warrior house codes, but those were not necessarily written down and what is known of them must be viewed through the lens of who wrote about them and for what reason.

Load grapeshot.

That's unamerican.

If you’re within 21 feet and don’t have your pistol drawn, you’re getting stabbed. Even longer distance if attacker has a sword.
