Anyone else remember Farewell To Fear? Back in early 2010s it was really popular on /tg/, it was about playing Pgorgressive Fantasy in the DND world, you played Priest Hunters (Atheists hunting Priests to destroy religion) and Scientists and Revolutionists using Logic and Scienec to DESTROY superstition and backwardsness...

Was pretty cool, but now in 2026 /tg/ will literally cry about it... is it too cringe now?
>>
>>98031292
Sounds cool. How did you last session go?
>>
>>98031292
I've been posting on /tg/ since 2008 and I've never heard of it before.
This was never popular, don't try to force the narrative that it was.
>>
>>98031292
>this machine kills fascist
I see grammar nazi went first from your post
>>
>>98031292
I was here then and I can't remember ever hearing about this. It seems mildly familiar but I'm pretty sure that's only because of the boilerplate "this X kills fascists" grooming victims love to spout.

Then again, the /tg/ of the day would try to put together a game of FATAL just for the laughs, so I could see something like this getting some traction if only ironically.

>Was pretty cool, but now in 2026 /tg/ will literally cry about it
Yeah, funny how people noticing you're not playing to engage in a theoretical world and experience/explore it for fun, but instead to live out your fuck fantasies of what you want to do to everyone else at the table changes the context like that.
It's the difference between "Hahah, anime with 10,000 year old fox god who is smol." vs "Dude, why do you have a concerningly petite sex doll with my 9 year old daughters photo taped to it?"
>>
>>98031292
>Some Bluesky fag, trying to fanfic their failed kickstarter system was popular and /TG/ loved about it in the 2010s.
Reddit is over there. This so called systems screams that it was big over there back then, not over here. I never heard of that woke shit and even I as a atheist would mocked the shit out of that had I heard of it. Also, be sure to put on your helmet on so you don't lose anymore IQ when you fall. It's not like you have any to spare now.
>>
>>98031292
In early 2010s, edgy retards would talk about FATAL and rape and stuff, this game(i assume?) was not popular, hell i have not even heard of it before. This kind of edgy athiest stuff was always mocked as fedora tippers. This particular one, i didnt even see
>>
>>98031292
This sounds reddit as fuck. The idea of playing like Enlightenment scientists and philosophers is interesting, but some of those were also priests.
>>
>>98031923
Most of them were priests, or were nobility connected to the clergy. Thats who stored books and maintained them
>>
>>98031292
I've never seen this mentioned on /tg/ before. Desuarchive finds 67 mentions total, the first one of which (in 2012) says:
>What the actual fuck is this shit?
https://desuarchive.org/tg/search/text/%22Farewell%20To%20Fear%22/order/asc/

Did you forget the board has an archive or something?
>>
>>98031292
No, unless I open a tab and google to confirm it, I will have no idea whether you just made this shit up.
>>
>>98031292
It was gay then and you're gay now.
>>
At this point OP, you might as well ask for their credit card details. They deserve it.
>>
>>98031292
Took me a second but I remember that dumpster fire of a game.

Everyone was making fun of it for being a commie hipsters D&D. I remember people saying some Christian D&D knockoff was better than this trash. I mean, it screams edgy commie protester who parents still pay all his bills and whines he is poor like everyone else just because he has to work at starbucks for his play money.
>>
>>98031292
Where’s the pdf?
>>
>>98031292
I bet even a lot of the people who agree with those politics made fun of it for being so on the nose.
>>
>>98031292
>go to suptg
>no results
Seems like this thing was never popular at all, OP.

What OP describes sounds like it might make a good World of Darkness splat, made (as many others) under the premise that you are playing an evil shithead following their nature. Your denial of the divine in favor of the profane ends up actually giving the priests superpowers, which you need to counter with gnostic atheism, without actually becoming satanic in the process (because then you've gone native). A movement of intellectual purity spanning millennia, which splits mankind in twain out of sheer anal obsession and need to create problems where there are none. Nobody likes you like nobody likes vampires, but that's fine, because you don't like anybody either. You're already euphoric because you're enlightened by your own intelligence.

I can see it being fun for a session or two, though it clearly needs an additional twist to make it last.
>>
cute artifact from the last gasp of libertarian reddit atheism before they all converted to alt-right ideologies
the kind of people that would support it back then are larping as tradcath natsoc crusaders today
>>
>>98031292
Only applies to Christian-coded settings, right? I can’t see this system working in Japan or Persia.
>>
>>98032514
But why does it have, “this machine kills fascists?” What’s fascist about a priest? Is this just a shibboleth to indicate that the writer is “one of us?”
>>
>>98032437
I am strongly inclined to concur.
>>
>>98031292
>Anyone else remember Farewell To Fear?
No.
>Back in early 2010s it was really popular on /tg/
No it wasn't. I was here and I have never heard of this shit. It seems you're making shit up.

The Wakfu tcg was more popular and it wasn't popular (in fact, you would get banned for posting translated cards)

he's correcting the spelling of angels now :(

>Anyone else remember Farewell To Fear?

No it was not.
>is it too cringe now?
Nothing has changed.
Normally when people make shit up I tell them to go LARP on /tg/, but here we are on the make shit up board.
>>
>>98032527
You do not understand the zeitgeist of the era. This was long before wokeness, fascism was when your mom turns unplugged your xbox and made you attend mass on Sunday morning.
>>
>>98031292
>Back in early 2010s it was really popular on /tg/,
lol. lmao.
>>
>>98032527
I would bet money that the creator's entire understanding of christianity (or religion as a whole) comes from their small town baptist parents, and the whole concept is just them being rebellious with extra delusions of grandeur
>>
>>98032518
Potentially in Japan when Nobunaga was uprooting the establishment, including Buddhist priesthoods, though he was replacing them with Christianity and Shintoism.
>>
Most of /tg/ can't remember a time before the golden escalator.
>>
>>98031958
>was here then
>don't remember this at all
>check the archives
2012 & 2013 agreed, and 2026 concurs.
This shit is garbage. We didn't like it then, we don't like it now.
fuck off outta here.
>>
>>98031292

>Back in early 2010s it was really popular on /tg/

Then why don't I remember it.
>>
>>98031292
So now everyone has proven you were lying through your teeth, explain why bother? What was the point of the lie?
>>
>>98034228
A LOT of hardcore atheism stems from people who can't get over their parents making them get up early on Sunday to go to church.
In fact, I'd wager that most of internet atheism stems solely from people being butthurt that they had to go to church instead of watch cartoons or play video games.

No.

Yes.
