DnD 5th sucks>make a new character with backstory >critical strike from npc monster>character dead>make another character >maybe less bsck story this time>critical hit from npc monster>dedDo people really play this? Also good bye wh fantasy general , you were a good thread.
No, OP you are doing all the sucking.
>>98035121DnD 5e is shit for many, many reasons... but dying too easily is not one of them. 5e coddles the hell out of players and death save mechanics are super generous. You might just be retarded. Even more retarded than the typical 5e fan, which is quite an accomplishment.
>>98035121>>critical strike from npc monster>>character deadDeath saving throws do not work like this. To die instantly from massive damage is nearly impossible at any level. The only way you would have died this easily is if the DM was attacking downed player characters, in which case it wasn't the critical that iced you, it was aggressive DM conduct.
>>98035346Are you saying this thread is bait?
>>98035121Git gud.
>>98035346Not OP, but don't you instantly die if you take double your maximum HP in a single hit? I seem to recall that happening at a one-shot I was in, and it's easily possible at lower levels from a crit.
>>98035528yeah, that's the rule. Its the 'massive damage' part of the instant death section of the rules. there's a few monsters that can hit a little harder early on and if you've got 10 hp and they crit for 11 while you're on 1 hp, you insta die. its unlucky but also just make a new guy
>>98035346>>98035528Basically this >>98035610It is quite unlikely, since not only does a monster have a 5% chance to crit, but even then it's still possible that they just roll low. A standard goblin does 2d6+2 on a crit, and it's possible they just beef it and deal 4 damage.Level 1 is pretty much the only time you'll see a character instantly die. Possibly level 2 if somebody is playing a low Con wizard or something. Though that's also a reason why a lot of 5e campaigns start at level 3, because the people who want to avoid those low-level risks because they like writing big backstories just agree to skip it.This sort of complaint would be much easier to level at 3.5 or earlier editions, where death was even more likely even if you didn't get crit.
>>98035610Thats not how it worksThere is no "negative hp" in 5e. If you have 10 total hp then you can only ever be instantly killed by a 20 damage hit, anything else just makes you dying or autofail a death save
>>98035528You know you can just read the rules, right? You don't have to guess.
>>98035121D&D 5e sucks, but OP didn't describe anything that could happen within the bounds of its rules as written.
>>98035708I don't get it, if you don't want player characters to die, why would you select a system where player characters can die?
>>98035121You're a genuine fucking retard
>>98035905Question sounds bad faith as fuck, but giving you the benefit of the doubt: There's a difference between "I never ever want a character to die" and "I don't want a character to die in this small portion of the game that's far more lethal than 99% of the rest of the game due to bad RNG"
So stop playing games that are badly designed. Like I said. Dumbfuck.
Yeah but I can roll a natty 20 and fuck the hot goblin barmaid so it's the best game ever actually
>>98035830Actually a Critical Hit while you're at 0 is worth two death failures, so if OP's GM was particularly sadistic, this is possible.Of course, OP could also just be retarded and not understand how the system works and thus dumped CON like a retard.Or the most likely option, OP is a lying faggot trying to farm clout... on an anonymous image board? Where his identity doesn't matter? I will never understand the kind of unloved, pathetic losers who make bait threads on 4chan, nobody is going to know who you are, all you're doing is being a retard.
>>98035121The game has many issues, lethality is not one of them.
>>98035121>backstoryAlready playing wrong I see.
>>98035331>t. never made it through the first cave in LMoP
>>98035121>18 Charisma>expertise in persuasion>start at level 3>enhance ability>guidance>bardic inspiration>cosmic omen from the stars druid starting at level 6>befriend every enemy>attack Vecna with army of 100K+ NPC's
>>98035121fake postyou can't die in 5e
>>98041365>Enemies Abound
