I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine flintlock in Germany for 2,400,000 Kroner (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even shoot through plates of solid steel with my flintlock. Euroipean gunsmiths spend years working on a single flintlock and roll it up to a million times to produce the finest barrels known to mankind. Flintloques are thrice as shooty as elf bows and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything an elven longbow can shoot through, a flintlock can shote through better. I'm pretty sure a flinlock could easily blow up an elven knight wearing full plate with a simple shot to the centre mass. Ever wonder why renaissance Europe conquered everything? That's right, the entire world was too scared to fight the disciplined terricos and their flinlocks of destruction. Even in Alatriste, elven soldiers targeted the men with the flinlocks first because their killing power was feared and respected. So what am I saying? Guns are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Flinlocks: (One-Handed Exotic Weapon) 1d12 Damage 19-20 x4 Crit 40' range +2 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork. (Two-Handed Exotic Weapon) 2d10 Damage 17-20 x4 Crit, 100' range, +5 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork Now that seems a lot more representative of the firepower of powder weapons in real life, don't you think? tl;dr = early modern firearms need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.

Every elf is a high value combatant and giving them a weapon that could explode in their hands would be stupid. Once guns get more reliable, they should be all over them.But mostly, writers and designers want to maintain archetypal niches and "guns" is not one of theirs.
