SC being bad because of cultivator shit is only partly true, mainly because of the unreasonable amount of time it takes to learn legendary techniques.
Another bad part is how every legendary technique claims to be the strongest and most undefendable shit ever.
SC would be a much better setting if the legendaries were reworked into being greats and more accessible in universe.
It also needs its power level to be properly solidified. So many of the "power discussions" are just vibes based because no limits are really specified. In fact, almost nothing is specified.

I personally dont think the legendaries need to be moved, I think that the lower tiers could do with some expanding and cheapening. Why pay for 2 6 point basics when for a little more effort, a 15 point legendary completely outclasses them? But a bunch of 2 or 3 AP basics could at least get you some fun diversity.

I do agree about reducing the vibes/edge cases/technicalities and establishing some more concrete terms for the various edge cases we've found over the time of making many builds.

But i doubt the author will do so if he hasn't done it by now unfortunately.

If you are talking about the combo of Magmatic+Trouble Magnet it's 10 points purely off rivals/nemesis. Old Grudges gives 3 points from nemesis since it lets you take 3, for a total of 13 is you have both that and the combo. These are all just the side effects, if you pick them as proper Malevolents with associated points the value raises, but that's variable depending on which MA is the "real" one. It totals to 21 if you take them all as real.

For Jingyan... It largely comes down to who gets in the way of killing spirits. Fully corrupt Overseers like Zanka (will protect sp*rits for her paycheck and loicense to kill), spirit lovers pushing forward their patron's agenda like maybe Ryuusei (mystery patron is probably a spirit), or people that are too good of an influence on Satya and might threaten the spirit killing agenda like Hajun or maybe Arjava.

So basically if you'll aid spirits but also won't help kill them, you're probably on her shit list. Exorcists and similar groups like the senguru are people Jingyan would rather like, maybe even enough to be supporting them in secret. Although that'd probably be a one-sided appreciation.

The weird edge case is Meliala. She's a religious fanatic, and that should be support for a spirit, but it's also weird that none of the major mortal world religions have produced a giga-spirit like the trigram. In that sense, Meliala might just be stealing away faith from the spirits and pouring it into the void... And that would make Jingyan really quite like Meliala and her church regardless of how much the latter might want to shoot her with a water cannon full of acid. Point being that I could go either way for how Jingyan feels about Meliala, and it partly depends on how that Ronin plotline needs to go.

For Nemesis sects... Uh... Really just NPC factions like the trigram cult or maybe Ryuusei's sect. The rest I can't see her taking issue with.

The world is already a giant fucking video game (of course the setting’s inhabitants are too stupid and used to the status quo to ever realize it) and the gods are already highly invasive so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to have a bunch of insane “otherworlders” coming out of butt fuck nowhere. A new breed of mage (“metamage”) will be born and Bell won’t be unique anymore. It is a bit strange how the cyoa treats nemesis and rivals, but I can kinda see the logic behind it. It's true that having a nemesis faction means that faction wants to kill you on sight, but the assumption is that the members of the factions are individually much weaker than the average player so it's less dangerous. Players are instead more dangerous individually. But usually the faction isn't composed entirely by 2 dudes on the run, one of which doesn't even remember he's supposed to be the leader of said faction.

Looking at options for nemesis for Satya, the Trigram Cult fits well, as do the Majushin given the anti-Spirit position of the Yatsukahagi. From the PC sect side, this mean that the Fist of the Almighty works as well.

That was one of the ships suggested. Honestly, they do have a lot of intersection with each other and the Oblative Gesture part could lead to the swarm wanting to go after him, but not Kei herself. It is kinda funny. They're both flow/alchemy hybrid builds, but Kei is spiritually a flow build (straight forward combatant meant to fight head-on with raw numbers) and Jingyan is spiritually an alchemy build (absolute bastard meant to scheme people to death instead of fighting them.)

What' are our expectations for how long a rivalry should last for the purposes of the cyoa option? I think Kuro could be in conflict with a number of people, but those conflicts could also resolve themselves in time. We workshopped a bit last thread about a potential connection to Ronin, but that potential could include conflict or alliance, perhaps even going from one to the other. This probably applies somewhat to Mozumaru as well.

Due to him being a Stalker, he may take jobs to infiltrate and/or impede the actions of major factions in the MP. Someone from from within the faction working to uncover and put a stop to him could end up being a rival.

For the Yatsukahagi, that may be Jìngyán, since she serves as the faction's spymaster. Or perhaps Senyan if Kuro is tasked with assassinating Satya herself.

Pretty much any of the Overseers could fit the bill, since Kuro is wanted dead or alive. Perhaps one with an extreme adherence to law and order who becomes obsessed with tracking him down after discovering that more corrupt Overseers actually employ his services from time to time.

Really good introduction for Hajun, shows his main niche of being a punching bag that won't stay down! Anon just having paddies and hiring mercenaries won't work because with his zero combat ability, there is no added cost for opposing him. The only question for the mercenaries is whether it's better to take what he has directly or establish a longer-term relationship. Anon is unwilling for the second (since he's opposing the combat Anon), so the increase in productivity from keeping him around doesn't outweigh the profit gained from taking all he has instead of part of it. The conflict then moves to the level of people with power that is the mercenaries and combat Anon. Due to threat/risk a combat could incur, at this stage the situation can stabilise, and they can just split farmer Anon's lands between themselves and then keep it stable. At that stage, they can work towards maximizing productivity using more obedient workers.

Nagomi and Meliala are going to fix Ronin and make him a better man. It is a love triangle. The nun leads ronin on adventures about finding andrew and thereby giving him the thrill of adventure and then nagomi will just be chill scenes where ronin and nagomi just hang out and meditate together.

Meliala hates Satya and wishes to kill her and with how annoying meliala is becoming for satya, i think the feeling is mutual. Meliala thinks that Satya was the one who kidnapped Andrew.

Meliala will try to befriend jingyan, seeing a troubled, tortured soul within her. Meliala has cured people from their bad deeds before and changed them for the better. Maybe Meliala can try to give jingyan some peace.
"Jingyan, yours is a troubled soul. I know what it is like to be forsaken and abandoned. I was once an orphan and brought to the church. I know some ways to find some sort of closure and peace in life. What is that you say? Well we couls enact revenge on your captors!"

Meliala is rivals with hajun and wishes to settle their duel score since their last spar was a draw. She doesnt know yet how horrible hajun's life is under Satya

Meliala knows jaku and mika mori. She considers them her friends and a target for friendly rivalries

Meliala hates chitragupta and believes that she leads souls astray with her religion

Ooc: as for good programs, i do not know. Gimp i guess but that is like using a hammer and a chisel instead of using an electric drill

I started working on the graphical relationship chart using (former) drawio and it seems alright for this. I'm gonna start applying relationships now, but I wanted to check in on sects/groups, which I took based on the threadslave list. I tried to mark the sect leader with a golden border. Please tell me if I missed anything and how/if I any of the unaffiliated should be in a group of some kind.

What's interesting about spirit conscript?
I don't see the appeal at all, and I've really tried.

A small update with first relationships added and marked NPC factions because I thought that "enemy of my enemy" might be a useful information. Also, I thickened the borders of the factions a bit and used the border color from the cyoa. Also #2, since Jakunotori had Overseer faction listed as a member, I gave him a border with the member color.

This is really cool, and it's shaping up well, just one thing to note is that it doesn't have sub factions now. Yatsukahagi already has one sect inside a sect, and is probably get more in the future, it's supposed to have 8, so some way to distinguish that Jingyan has her own sect would be useful.
It's really good otherwise and I particularly appreciate how the "fake" sects have a different border.

That works well. The arrows are the same color as the cyoa right? So red for Foe and purple for Nemesis. I'm seeing some strange connections there but I may just need to check the builds better.

Yes, at least I tried to, these are my working colors. There were some cases where someone used the term "enemy" instead of "foe" or "nemesis", I think I treated it as foe then. But of course, there may have been some fuck ups, so if anyone spots anything I'll try to correct it.

For now I'm cheking the connections you have and they seem fine. I just missed that some people had Old Grudges as an Ambivalent Alteration so they could take more Nemesis. This is actually helping me to visualize the situation and pick rivals and stuff so thanks, and also sorry for any changes that will result from this.
