Why is 2d6 not more popular when it comes to TTRPGs?
>Pros
When you roll the max result you can yell out "Boxcars!", when you roll the min result you can cry out "Snake eyes!"
>Cons
None.
It just seems so obvious that this is how TTRPGs were meant to be played.

Rolled 3, 2 = 5 (2d6)

I don't like 2d6 because I spent six years in a federal prison. Because of my bad behavior, I was deprived of all privileges, including having any possessions in my cell. That left me to with the only option of making a pair of d6s out of compressed and dried mashed potatoes that I would smuggle around in my shoes beneath the arch of my foot.

I spent thousands of hours just rolling those two dice millions of times, gambling with myself, with no stakes beyond me wagering my own faith in my own luck, and slowly trying to master the ebb and flow of random chance.

By the end of the six years, I was done with 2d6. I had seen the results so many times that they held no mystique or surprises for me. I knew their odds intuitively, knew their likelihoods like they were branded in my soul, and knew that my own place in the universe was as nothing more than an insignificant speck, carried on the winds of chaos in directions beyond the ken of understanding.

d&dbrain means people expect their characters to "level up" or otherwise progress higher in numbers
2d6 does not scale well
>>
>>98046476
Try Sword World.

Bell curves fuck people up. On account of the bell curve.
>>
>>98046577
This is the answer. I'm a big fan of Barbarians of Lemuria. At a certain point it becomes, essentially impossible to fail. 3d6 curves offer significantly more variability in modifiers and, therefore, what those modifiers can represent.

D&D and its consequences.
d6 with bonus die is still my favourite resolution system of all time.
>>
>>98046517
I'm not saying Anon's an Entropomancer but..
>>
>>98046476
That's basically Sword World. The game that killed D&D in Japan.
>>
>>98046476
2d6 is the second best dice type there is. The best is 3d6, because its got a better bell curve.
>>
>>98046624
>Bell curves
And that's relevant to 2d6 how?
>>
>>98046577
2d6 is also too swingy for a bell curve distribution
3d6 is better
>>
>>98046476
Fractions of 36 are annoying.

Sword World really is a fascinating product
Published like a regular normal cheap paperback book instead of a pricey hardcover
d6 because where the fuck were you gonna find shit like a d20 back then
Had Runequest and Tunnels & Trolls influences which were always more popular there than D&D ever was
And of course made specifically for Lodoss War, the first replay
It's so Japanese

>Published like a regular normal cheap paperback book instead of a pricey hardcover
Personal taste I do wish more ttrpg books were printed this way. I love when there are pocket editions of books.
Are there even any good 2d6 systems out there? Sword World has been mentioned but that's not officially translated yet. PBtA uses 2d6 don't they?
>>
>>98046476
No one says Boxcars
Also the best dice mechanic is objectively d100 roll under
>>
>>98047814
Sword World is getting a official English edition this year. (It's kickstarter was delay but I think it happening at the end of the summer or something like that.)
>>
>>98047836
I heard there was some kerfuffle over the translation or something
>>
>>98046476
I do enjoy shouting boxcars...
>>
>>98047826
>No one says Boxcars
You're missing out man.
>>98047856
This guy gets it!
>>
>>98047826
>best dice mechanic is objectively d100 roll under
Agreed. My d100 is a zoccihedron. Fortunately it's too big to roll under a lot of objects but it has been known to roll under the table. Sometimes with the help of the cats.
>>
>>98047826
I have done nothing but play d% for the last four years and I can say with confidence that you really don't need more than 5% resolution. Ergo, d20 roll-under is more elegant.
>>
>>98047557
I'm glad you highlighted the problem by being it. Thanks anon.
>>
>>98046476
Modifiers are too limiting. Even if we are not talking about equipment/level up D&D-style, there is still need to be something that represents advantage gained by player by being proactive and witty. And if we are talking about curves, ehy not fudge?
>>
>>98046476
2d6 (pick highest) is the average roll in my favorite system. Pro is 5d6 (pick highest). Unskilled is 2d6 (pick lowest).
>>
How bad can PbtA games be if they let you shout boxcars when you roll big? That's their whole thing right? 2d6 + Stat?
>>
>>98050844
PbtA is bad because straight successes are generally 10+ on 2d6
>>
>>98048821
I'm people wrongly calling non-bell curves bell curves by questioning why people are wrongly calling non-bell curves bell curves? At least try to start making sense.
