>Abaddon’s company, First Company .......wore polished black armour, dark as night, as if they belonged to some other, black Legion.
I thought the first Horus Heresy book was supposed to be good? ChatGPT told me this was on the level of Dune and BOTNS btw.
>>
Fuck off, frogspammer.

Sounds like foreshadowing but not done properly.
Gonna need page number for that quote.
BL isn’t known for being the best. But that’s too much.
I need page number.

>>98046745
I have it in epub. It's in chapter 1. For me it's page 19.
>>
>>98046798
Now post the screenshot please.
I need to see this.

This is amazing.
Thank you anon.

It's the contrast between different sections of the unit. I don't think the prose is amazing, but it's not bad. Are you ESL? Sometimes, ESLs have a hard time figuring out comparisons in english.
>>
>>98046851
>muh ESLs
It's slop m8
Maybe if you faggots didn't endlessly make excuses for dogshit they might raise their standards
>>
>>98046688
Ah glad to see they exist. I thought they all took their own lives after being soo miserable but that involves being able to move away from their gaming chairs.
>>

>BLfags unironically defend this
Warhammer as a franchise genuinely entered a hopeless dark age when the slop pigs decided this back-of-the-cereal-box writing should be treated and analysed with the reverence of medieval monks studying St Augustine.

That should have told you something about ChatGPT, not about Warhammer novels, archgenius.
>>

They're defending dogshit because that's what they want to post. Then getting to shit some more on anyone who doesn't just get the meaning telepathically is an added bonus (they need their grabass like a meth-head needs his fix). Attempts at standards and clarity and such are school stuff, avoided like the plague when there isn’t a teacher there to force it upon them.

BL has literally always been dogshit. Turning the HH into a soap opera where everyone is retarded written by middling fanfic writers is the WORST thing that's ever happened to 40k.

>>98047108
It was strategically designed to capture Marvel movie and superhero fanboys.

To be fair Dune's writing takes a definite downturn in Children (this is still better than the OP though imo) but you keep reading for God-Emperor.

You mean the cool ones were Iron-Man murders terrorists and has metal song in the ending or the "well that just happened" with epic ochestra?

I have no idea what that is, probably some zoomer shit.

You need better taste.

NTA but Book of the New Sun, published 1980-1987, a solid contender for the greatest fantasy series ever written.

This is still poetic, even if it comes off as cheesy to modern sensibilities. There's an enjoyable lilt to this writing, a textured mouthfeel when you read it aloud. It's so much better than the Black Library bits being shared here, it isn't even close.

>going "muh prose" over sci-fi books
enjoy the big men hitting each other over melodramatic reasons and leave prose to the real novels
>>
>>98050166
No, I want my sci-fi novels written with prose just like this. Art is art, stop having low standards.
>>
>>98049529
Well, I learned something new today. I was a voracious reader of science fiction and fantasy at the Williamsburg Public Library in the 1980s, and I have no idea why I've never heard of that particular series before. But I put it on my list. Thanks anon!
>>
>>98050071
>>98047796
Yeah but he was more correct the first time.
>>
>>98050228
Gene Wolfe is kind of underread but he was a truly unique writer. The Death of Doctor Island & Other Stories & Other Stories is a good intro collection, The Fifth Head of Cerberus is what started getting him attention and is a good intro novel.

YMMV - his narrators are almost never reliable and his stories usually demand attention from the reader. A lot of Catholic theology bleeds into BotNS in particular, so the title is really a pun.
>>
>>98046673
>supposed to be good?
Not even diehard 40K fans believes that.
(The ones who actually read non-40K books, at least)
>>
>>98050228
It’s pretty hard to find a 4ch thread that doesn’t mention GW. Nerds absolutely love the unreliable narrator trope.
