Dwarves have cool helicopters, and my hatred for stunties makes me respect high elves and orcs at the same time for killing them

Beastmen, I have nothing positive to say about them

They make very poor sacrifices. The best sacrifices are always high quality: young beautiful virgins, first born sons, the best lamb or cattle in the herd, etc. Stinky vermin like skaven are very low quality sacrifices and would surely offend any god or higher being receiving them
>>
>>98046895
I like how genuinely sinister they feel.
There is no humor like in orcs or skaven, there is no humanity or tragity.
They are purely alien and metal af.
Like if you named your General "Rapestorm" in any other faction you'd get side-eyed but in beastmen? Thats actually a perfectly normal name

Idk I'm still in the brainstorm stage. Floating islands, flying or walking castles, some flying ships. These will be humans or course, and they will ride dinosaurs like dinotopia, pterodactyls with bench seats on their back ..

>>98046921
I actually have an idea for a Chaos subfaction sort of like how the recent arcane journals released rules and lore for full Norscan armies.

Basically there's this cool piece of Circassian/Ossetian folklore (peoples whose conversion to Christianity/Islam has always been extremely shaky at best) detailing rituals around healing the sick by pleading to the god Sozeresh, who ruled over the realm of miasmic realm of disease. Some of the rituals are pleading bedside chants, while others ressemble parlour games, jokes or pranks and were meant to make the patient feel more at ease. Now this in itself is sort of interesting because you can draw some fun parallels from folklore to warhammer, but we can take it a step further. What's the rough Warhammer equivalent of the Caucasus? A good answer could be the area around the Sour Sea, since the geography roughly matches. And around the Sour Sea yiu of course have to contend with Nagash who has his big evil fortress just there. Mashing all that together we can write a pretty classic warhammery tragic tale:

Long ago, a tribe of humans was pushed into the rocky and inhospitable mountains of the Desolation of Nagash by chorf, greenskin and ogre attacks. They scraped together a living as best they could until the forces of undeath took notice of them and began ruthlessly cleansing them out. They fought valiantly but their defeat was assured, for every time a warrior fell, he would quickly rise up and his puppeted corpse would join the fight against his former kin.

This goes on until the very son of the high chief suffers a grievous wound in battle, only barely making it out alive. Dozens of priests and shamans gather at his bedside, invoking spells and supplications to their god the lord of disease to release the young prince and save him from servitude to Nagash.
>>
>>98047018
At this moment a cloaked figure, the emissary of Sozeresh enters town on a pallid emaciated steed. He proposes an offer to the high chief: renounce all other gods but his lord and his son will be saved and his people never again threatened by Nagash. The chief of course reluctantly accepts, sealing his own fate as well as his entire people's. His warriors soon find weapons can no longer kill them, only injure them, injuries which quickly begin filling with rot and pus, yada yada you know the drill.

I guess the army itself would be composed of units that are generally weaker and hit less hard, due to the lower influence Chaos can exert this far south, though they'd still be very hard to kill. The tribal elites would still fight from horses with swords and lances, but you'd also have more exotic units like mobile but underpowered sniper/jezzail teams and horse archer outriders. Their magic would also be kind of different, you would only have one proper hero/lord wizard, the Emissary himself, the rest would be wizard units made up of supplicants that can either work on their own or supercharge the emissary. Also feel free to throw some classic Nurgle stuff in there like plague carts and such.

What would you think of such an army?

I play Dwarves in MESBG. I am waiting for Kislev. But since Kislev is seemingly not on the horizon. How do Dwarfs play in TOW? Are they a good faction to start TOW with?
>>
>>98046921
Bugs. Not bug people or people bugs. Bugs.
>>
>>98047143
Same as they always have, slow-moving but with plenty of good gunline units and artillery.
Doomseekers are better than ever with the Initiative buff on the charge. Obnoxiously good against T3 infantry since their impact hits and flurry of attacks can generally wipe out the front rank of most general infantry they run into, leaving usually 2 maybe 3 supporting attacks. And when they die, they give no victory points.
>>
>>98047193
Is there a way to play without a gunline? I don't want to have unfun games.
>>
>>98047198
You can play heavy infantry and try to move up the field, but if they have a gunline (or bowline as in the case of elves, especially the wood variety) then you'll get shot to shit before you get there.
Even then, you'll want at least two artillery pieces. You need to keep some pressure on the opponent to stop them from just sitting there.
You could go all Slayers, but that's a meme army that will shred anything it touches but if they have ranged, they won't let you touch them since they die to a stiff breeze.
>>
>>98047214
So combined arms could work? I am not against having ranged and arty, I just don't want to do a static ranged line.
>>
>>98047193
>victory points
What a retarded concept. Why would a battle have abstract video game "points" handed out, when they could have designed the rules to prioritize actual battlefield objectives
>>
>>98047256
Shutup perrymanlet, go play 40k or AoS if you want that.
>>
>>98047229
Yeah, combined arms is probably the most fun.
>>98047256
If you actually played the game, you'd know most scenario rules DO prioritize objective and board control. Just with additional points based on what units of your opponent's you've actually killed.
>>
>>98047271
How viable are ironbreakers? I really love the models but I worry that people will just avoid going into combat with them.
>>
>>98047274
They're good and strong but they do suffer from their slow speed and everyone trying to avoid actually getting stuck in with them. Orcs and Goblins may throw a nightgoblin regiment at them to be a speedbump, and dump out some Fanatics at you. But elves will try to run away at all costs.
>>
>>98046921
Fimir beastmen subfaction full of the unreleased forgeworld models.
>>
>>98047271
>you'd know most scenario rules DO prioritize objective and board control
No they don't, that is patently false. The rulebook has three ways to play: pitched battles, campaign play, and narrative play. 99% of games played are just pitched battles. Of the 6 different pitched battle "scenarios" in the rules, 5 of the 6 have no objectives or board control, they're just slightly different variants of deployment zones. Only one of them (Command & Control) has a single objective/board control in the dead center of the table, and even that just gives you some more abstract "victory points" at the end of the game. Irregardless of all this, I have never seen a single game of TOW played that wasn't the most basic bitch "Open Battle" first scenario.
>>
>>98047390
Doubt it. Most people play the scenarios from the matched play book.

Played a 1250p game the other day, my Beastmen against a mounted Khorne list.
We got the breakpoint scenario, and my opponent got first turn.
His giant chaos spawn got a long movement and slammed into my wargor, killing him easily.
Then I fumbled most of my attacks from my Minotaurs and razorgor, failing to kill it before it slew most of my Minotaurs with killing blow causing them to flee.
Otherwise I fared pretty well, stopping most the momentum with the chargers by forcing a few stalemate combat resolutions.
Got to use my Centigors for the first time too, but it’s clear I need learn how to use them better.
Unfortunately my general was taken out in a duel (again with killing blow).
Until we reached the 5th turn when we both needed to slay one of our dudes each to force a break point, which he did before me, so the rest of my army broke ending the game.
Even if it was a bit frustrating with killing blow it was fun to play a game.

What games have you guys been playing as of late?

>Can I ask a question for the one who dabbled with Highland Miniatures? Are there many saying that they match the current Old World better when printed as 30mm, but what about... old school miniatures like those in Warhammer Quest 1995? So do they fit more if printed as 28mm?
They fit better as 28mm period. No disrespect to anyone who's been led to believe 30mm is a better fit, but I've heard this 30mm thing a few times recently too and I can only assume that the people confidently asserting it have heard it online and like to repeat because it makes them sound "in the know". I've done various side by side tests with multiple of their miniatures and GW minis from 5th-8th edition, and digital calipers. 30mm has never been the matching scale in any of my tests. For humanoid stuff 28mm (87.5% of the original STL's scale) came back as the matching scale each time. Skeletons in the pic are printed at 87.5%. Their empire spearman in walking pose is exactly the same height - literally to the eyeline - as the 6th edition starter box spearman in walking pose, when printed at 87.5%. Dwarfs due to their different proportions (head and neck sit higher on the shoulders than GW sculpts) it was more like 85-83% (26-27mm), but then the highlands dwarf's shoulders end up lower than a GW dwarf, so it's a case of personal preference.

Two caveats:
1) highlands changed their sculpting style around 2023 to have more heroic proportions; I haven't tested anything before then, so those sculpts may well do better at 30mm. But I doubt that's what the vast majority of people are referring to when they say 30mm is best.
2) I haven't tested scale against anything GW released since TOW came out, but having seen scale comparisons of those minis against 6-8th ed minis, I doubt it'd make much difference.

I have almost the full highlands range, so if there's a particular mini that you're thinking of using for WHQ I can put it in a 3d program and do some scale comparisons if you'd like.

Dwarf nomads

Dwarfs have no cavalry, so this is the army based around Dwarfs having cavalry. A different type of runework too, one that seems to verge on normal magic in a way regular Dwarfs find very disconcerting. They worship Valaya above all, so they have more women and reproduce much more quickly than regular dwarfs, but it's rare for one to live past 300. Once again, unnerving to regular dwarfs. But really, I just want Dwarf cavalry

Then I charged his marauders next turn, missing most of my dice leaving me with a single Gorehoof against two of marauders.
With some luck I managed to win that battle next turn and move closer to the center.
Next turn I rolled a 6 on the drunken table and had to charge the giant chaos spawn (who at this point only had 2 wounds left) due to frenzy, fun stuff real liquid courage.
I could have killed it if my 3 hits from my G-W didn't land on 1-2-2 when wounding it.
With one swipe from the giant spawn it ended the last of the centigors.

Will continue to use them and improve on my skills.

Other than dice hating you, seems they did well. I don't know the state of the board, but I'd have probably not charged the marauders cause throwing axes would perform better, especially if you got call of the wild off again. Otherwise, love them drunken assholes!

Khorne red or unaligned black are the classic picks but I would actually echo Tzeentch here, I think blue and gold could look very peamful if you mananage to pull it off.

Yeah I bought them as they came for AoS and didn't have any square cav bases so I reused these ancient 40k pill bases I've had lying around for like 20 years, I think it works quite nicely. Technically illegal in both TOW and AoS but who cares I'm not a tourneyfag

Reminds me though, a rules question for everyone. Friend of mine keeps insisting wounds dealt by stand and shoot count towards combat rez. Hasn't mattered for any combat cause its always a blowout in one direction or the other. Is that correct?

Friends want to do a 500pt lustrian tournament and i have a few boxes of Jade Obelisk from warcry. Thats two smaller base units, one with light weapons one with bows, and two 30mm base heavies with two hand weapon types and a melee hero and caster hero. Is that enough options for a lustrian themed chaos marauders list? maybe use some kitbashed kroxigor for the werewolves?
>>
>>98050397
Every time I see GW figures that look kinda cool I remember that assembly of modern GW kits is basically self harm.
>>
>>98050404
War Cry kits tend to be decent, sadly monopose, but decent.

Shame they killed it to try and make Spearhead a foot in the door to get people into the worst edition of AoS.
>>

And then spearhead killed AoS as the main version people play. Really funny.
>>
>>98046986
I theorize that Sotek is the result of fervent Skink belief and need for a savior activating an Old One contingency plan for a new god to rise to defend their servants. Something like a blank chunk of divine/magical stuff that took on the prayers and needs of the Skinks. Thus a giant serpent that hates rats.

Certainly the more logical reason. There's no way GW would sideline or cancel a major faction release over a war that has nothing to do with them or their setting. You will never be a beastman. You have no horns, you have no hooves, you have no mutations. You are a chaos player twisted by heavy metal and father issues into a crude mockery of the dark gods's perfection. All the "validation" you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back ungors mock you.
The Ruinous Powers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “allies” laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed doors.
Demons are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of corruption have allowed them to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even "Turnskins" who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a demon. Your hoof structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk nurgling to your herdstone, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your diseased, infected "horns".
You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake bray every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your cultists will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a herdstone marked with your birth name, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a man is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably human.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.
