My sci-fi setting has a race of mantis people, the males are much smaller than the females(males are slightly smaller than humans while females are the size of a moose) and, as real life mantids do, the female eats the male. HOWEVER, the males are far more intelligent than the females, that are basically rabid animals, and as their society developed they went from fucking the females then getting killed and eaten to grouping up, kidnapping females and placing them in restraints to produce children without the risk of immediate post coitus cannibalism. And as their culture and technology expanded so did this procedure, and now their entire species effectively relies on the mass-rape of giant carnivorous animals.They're actually a rather friendly species to everyone else, and while humans might find it a bit disturbing, it's generally been accepted by the galactic community that it's necessary for their survival.
