Fresh out of sibko would likely be green by Clan standards, which would be IS regular (4/5). Clan pilots are one step ahead in their skills compared to their IS equivalent because the training they undergo is intense enough that a Clan warrior fresh out of training is equivalent to an IS pilot with average combat experience.

Obligatory reminder that not a single 4/5 pilot, and about 30, total, 3/4 pilots, participated in Operation REVIVAL between both the Wolves and Jade Falcons, and every single one of the 3/4 pilots were 2nd liners driving IS machines. There is not a single pilot anywhere in either touman who is both driving an Omni AND who is 3/4 or worse.

Canon doesn't care if you agree with it. FASA was very clear that Clan Omnis are driven exclusively by 2/3 pilots or better.

Still need help with this.

Players want a campaign set in the Clan Homeworlds. Small-ish scale but still fun obviously, so no "they're the main characters in the Wars of Reaving" or anything.
Thinking of setting in the late 3060s or 3070s. Need help with something.
The campaign starts with the players being part of Clan X who are deployed to the borders of their Enclave's territory on Foster. A Star made up of 4 Mechs and a Point of Protomechs from Clan Y is advancing rapidly towards said border, on a path that will lead them directly towards a vital industrial complex.
The players, or their Star Commander, contact the advancing warriors and order them to change course and warn them not to cross over into Clan Xs holdings unless they wish to issue some sort of trial or batchall.
Clan Y respond with "There shall be no Trial. Do not attempt to stop us." then cut contact and cross the border, driving straight for the industrial complex.
In Clan society, would this be reason enough for the players to engage them in combat? I'm hoping the campaign starts with this, then the players get roped into the politics and investigation that follows to unearth what cause Clan Y to act so strangely/aggressively.

You have been given an answer before. Any Warrior that passes into another Clans territory who does not announce themselves and/or issues batchall is free to destroy. Given you are setting it near or during the Wars of Reaving, your players are permitted to slit the throats of any survivors after the fact.

so if I want to be lore accurate for a front line star, in say... clan invasion -> civil war? what skills and approximate total weight would I bring?

A star of heavies at 2/3 and better is going to be approximately a bajillion BV. My shitty solahma star was already fighting an entire company of Dracs at a time, I'm a bit nervous about bumping my skills to that.

It's funny that this is actually one of the only lostech units that went through the entire succession wars without being lost at all. The special lostech missiles were apparently lost, or at least they stopped making them, but the model with an XL engine, DHS, and AMS was just mothballed, not lost or cannibalized. They rolled them out and refit them with modern launchers just before the Jihad.

I don't really care. The fact he's wrong doesn't change the context of what you posted either.

You'll also note that these specifically labelled as garrison forces and none of them are labeled as using omnis. AFAIK you are correct that the veteran labels are 3/4s and the regulars are 4/5s; which would make sense for a freeborn garrison force.

There are a lot less boring arguments we could be having in here; so if we're going to shut down special pleading and goalpost moving; don't pin, NAIL that shit down.

Because I wasn't involved in this argument until just now.
I will say that almost the entire rest of Alpha Galaxy is wall to wall elite with only a handful of Veterans in the bottom end trinaries. The only other Regulars I could find at a glance were a literal couple of ASF jocks.
>>
Woah! You mean the initial invasion forces were the best equipped and most elite and the rear guard was made up of competent but not exceptional troops with less costly gear? That's so exotic and unlike how the inner sphere does things.
>>
having just fucked up my foot at work, with a mere sprain, i say mechs that lose their foot activator cannot stand, let alone one that loses its leg
>>
>>98056658
I suppose that is as good an excuse as exists. Thank you for actually going to look.
>>
C-Bill cost is funny because would you rather have a team of Inner Sphere Standard Battle Armor or would you rather have two air lances of Angel Light Strike Fighters with bombs to support your mechs?
>>
>>98056839
C-bill cost gets ridiculous when the options are a fairly mediocre mech with an XL engine or a max armor gauss toting death machine that weighs 20 tons more and comes with a regular engine and enough spare parts and ammo to keep it running for a year.
>>
>>98056880
If C-bill cost was taken seriously in-universe I don't think any inner sphere state besides maybe comstar would make frequent use of XL engines.
With smaller mechs you're at least doubling the cost of the entire mech just with an XL engine and larger mechs are almost tripling their cost. Most other advanced technology is laughably cheap relative to their primitive counterparts compared to the difference between FE and XLFE.
>>
>>98057235
If you are playing that game you start having to think about how many c-bills in taxes the hundreds of billions of citizens of each house are contributing. Forget it Jake, it's FASAnomics.
>>
>>98057261
Regardless of your state income, a budgetary perspective sees you choosing between a single atlas K2 or almost three atlas II. On a larger scale, that's choosing between a lance of mechs or an entire company of mechs.
>>
>>98054956
Your Blakists deserve a 2N model if anybody does.
>>
>>98057235
There is still manufacturing capacity to consider. Just because you can afford three times as many mechs doesn't mean you can build three cheap mechs for every one expensive one. So if money isn't an issue because you're a huge state economy facing an existential crisis you build the mech you think stands a better chance of assisting your victory.
>>
>>98057316
If money isn't an issue you expand your manufacturing capacity.
>>
>>98057326
It takes more than money to build a factory.

Those wacky anons, always lying about force composition. The Falcon Guards have the HIGHEST percentage of Clan regular pilots outside of solahma units in the entire touman, and there's barely any anyway.

And if you look in the Jade Falcon Sourcebook, which is an objective source and not a tainted scenario book that's been modified for balanced play (like the Twycross book your image comes from), there's all of about 4 CJF Mechwarriors across the entire touman who are
>driving Omnimechs
>not in a solahma unit
>who are Regular skill rating
EVERYONE else is veteran or elite. And by the time the clan sourcebooks were published, the understood interpretation was that Clan regulars are 3/4, veterans are 2/3, and elites are 1/2 or better. Cope, seethe, and dilate you dishonest newfag tranny.
>>
>>98056025
>star of heavies at 2/3 and better is going to be approximately a bajillion BV.
Doesn't matter. If you want lore accurate during Revival, that's what you field. There wasn't any BV back then anyway. Clan v IS fights in 3049-3052 aren't supposed to be balanced, and if that's what you want, make different choices. If you absolutely have to have balanced fights yeah, you'll be fighting a company with a Star. Get gud.
>>
>>98057494
And I don't care what source you post. FASA books aren't canon and nothing that isn't from CGL matters as a source. Clan regular pilots are 4/5 just like everyone else. Just go die already and stop being old. No one wants you here. Battletech shouldn't be played by anyone over 30.
>>
>>98057500
You aren't allowed to tell people how to play you elitist faggot. Games have to be balanced. That's what makes them a game. Both sides stand a chance of victory. The best way to do that is with equal point values and a similar force organization chart GW figured this out 40 years ago. What's the problem with Battletech? You don't see people making this argument when they play Alpha Strike, it's just grog's playing Classic who insist on unfair fights and limiting what their opponents are allowed to take. If I want to play 4 Hunchback Cs in a 3050 game, you don't get to tell me I can't. You don't have that right.
>>

>>
>>98057426
>>98057494
The important part is you are both wrong. This game belongs to Catalyst now. That means Fasa books aren't valid source material. You're both wrong for posting them and thinking it means anything at all.

Find out what Catalyst says about clan invasion skill ratings, or shut up. Neither of you is posting any material that matters. Boomer books don't matter in any debate about canon and they aren't suddenly going to. Find a source from this millennium or shut up. This garbage art isn't canon either, just like your sources.

At first I thought it might be a perspective issue, but looking closer it definitely is. That six lane highway should be just about an entire hex edge to edge (including the guard rails and lights), which makes both of those mechs over 30 meters tall, with the Jenner pushing 40.
>>
>>98058361
They fused a PGI Marauder with a Nova/Stormcrow. Those are distinctly Marauder forearms and the AC is mounted similarly and says whirlwind (as in GM Whirlwind). Why they decided to have it just stop past the shoulders and move the dorsal vents to on top of the arms is beyond me. The vents are clearly fixed to the arm and pivot up/down as the arm extends meaning that AC is never actually on target.

Yes brother. Although I kinda fucked up because I mis-remembered your method and just hit the whole thing with a black wash so it looks kinda dirty right now. But I found that Vallejo makes spray cans with fine tips and those were much easier to find at my LGS. Is there a reason you use diluted speed paint to bring the white down a bit versus just using grey wash?

Even if I’ve fucked it up a little so far I think it still looks better than all my other attempts at painting white, so the rattle can will probably be my go-to from now on. Also the sentinel is a stupid shit mech so I don’t mind fucking it up.
>>
>>98058919
My best success with white was using wedge shaped makeup sponges. And the "don't even paint white" technique. I got a mid gray, light gray, extremely light gray, and titanium hwhite, then sponged the whole model gray, almost the whole thing light gray, a lot of it ultra light gray, and then just the edges hwhite and it came out looking pretty great. Barely took any time too, sponged on paint dries pretty quickly and it felt to me like it didn't need to be as thinned as brushing (I created a sort of thinning gradient on my pallet with unthinned on one side and thinned-to-brush-standard on the other and dabbed the sponge across it as it felt right. Because it is a sponge, it kind of does the wet pallet thing of keeping the paint moist anyway.
>>
>>98059032
Oh, and primed a cool off-white. That probably helped a lot. Sponging does go over black well though, and can create some cool contrasting looks that you normally need an airbrush to pull off.

I use diluted asilicanum gray because I spray top with white so they are too bright for highlights. If I make them a bit gray there is difference.
I don't have off white spray but it would be better than pure white I used.
>>
>>98059067
Why not a grey wash as opposed to diluted grey speed paint? Does it just come out more even?

DESU, so much of the post-AGOAC art has looked uninspired. They keep recycling the 3D models they made into miniatures to make artwork. It smacks of Mechwarrior Dark Age 3DCG artwork that always looked 15 years past it's prime. It ends up feeling like Machinima screenshots from some X-Box 360 game.

Not that there hasn't been a fair share of stinker artwork before then, but there's nearly no from-scratch artwork anymore.

Might depend on the era, but the CJF I think of seem like they'd be uninterested in pinups, especially when they have casual sex just whenever - they're not pent up or anything.

Bearing in mind that they're a crusader clan, when I paint mine up I tend to use little to no hazard decals to show the lack of concern for their technician caste. Past that, Galaxy crests, numbers, maybe kill counters, and potentially some falcon-related imagery for higher ranking warriors.

Stupid question about canon. I'm not a big fan of the Houses and can't answer it by myself... What real difference between the 'Liao' Green and the 'Davion' Green? My friend wanna to use the Soviet Camo Green color on the Liao units, but clubmates told him is are the Davion's color. They are right?
>>
>>98059118
>Efforts were also made to alter the appearance of Jade Falcon OmniMechs and Elemental suits to inspire as much fear as possible. Everything from amazing camouflage patterns to almost psychedelic paint mixtures were used to color Jade Falcon 'Mechs, each Galaxy's falcon emblem was painted in bold fashion across every battle armor suit, and even synthetic feathers were added to some commanders' armor.
If you are doing Clan Invasion era CJF you can actually go completely crazy with the paint schemes. It was literally just whatever the pilot thought would look cool

They are retards. Combloc aesthetics are 100% in Liao territory and I have never even seen green called a Davion color at all. If you aren't going for a particular unit going with the colors from the faction logo is always acceptable.
>>
>>98059324
There's iconic schemes and house parade colors but I don't think any of them have a particular affinity for soviet olive drab either way, I assume it would be a generalist camo anyone would use.
Pic related is apparently a cataphract piloted by one of the capellan chancellor's, looks like some shades of green I've seen soviet tanks use I guess.

>>98059324
Liao green is supposed to be brighter than Davion green, but olive drab is SLDF green and everyone uses that.
>>
>>98059324
Camouflage is unrelated to parade colors other than the units that deliberately use camo as their parade colors.

This point has been on the tip of my tongue all evening. Now I got it.
>>
>>98059195
We don't believe you
>>
>>98059324
People tend to most associate premier regiment parade schemes with their House in general. The truth is that there are so many units and variations that you cannot count on dominant color alone to identify a faction. Like "black and red" could be anybody, and green is even more ubiquitous because, like others have said, it's a SLDF color.
Basically unless you are being very specific about the accent colors and their pattern/placement colors are functionally universal.

The Davion hiring hall manager is a fat homosexual in the new Draconis Reach book. Either way it's pretty disrespectful to a forever cultural 1980s setting where sex and marriage are also primarily for political dynasties. Anything Bryan Young vomits out is a retcon to canon.

Anon, this is Soviet Green.
You'll notice the various subtle Communist Variations in color due to the Glorious Soviet method of Moscow not actually setting the standard as to what the chemical make up of Soviet Green is.
Thusly, the very Patriotic and Gloriously Communist Factories made Soviet Green Paint in whatever materials they had on hand, and shipped it to the Red Army.
What makes a green a Soviet Green? Its the Communism.

Why does it matter?
Because this Anon is correct: >>98059375
Soviet Green is perfect for the Capellan Confederation.
And you wouldn't doubt the Wisdom of the Celestial Throne, on how Loyal Confederation Paint Factories make paint for the Very Honorable and Most Brave Warriors of the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces.

Now at 2 chargers, 2 griffins, a caesar, and a loki. Gonna grab maybe 2-4 more boxes for shuffled rando-lance games idea. Would work better with clan invasion salvage boxes, but I aint paying $24 a box.

Slightly related to my gambling/hoarding problem, Japanese dollar store has convenient and cheap stacking closed display boxes that can hold up to 8 units.
>>
>While his husband, the Baron-Consort, has been busily hosting society balls with an eye to placating Tybalt’s restive nobility, Boutros himself has been rubbing elbows with rough-and-tumble mercs in search of units to forward on to the First Prince’s service. A stocky, compact man with a silver mane of hair and an alarming reliance on antacid medication, the Baron has become the go-to liaison between the hiring hall and the regular AFFS chain of command.
And I thought the number 1 priority for feudal lords is making heirs for the house

>>98061688
>And I thought the number 1 priority for feudal lords is making heirs for the house
This is true and also completely ignored by the authors since the Dark Age. It is an age of childless lords.

>>98061700
Except it is still true, and also assistive childmaking of any kind is severely looked down on as illegitimate in the Successor States. Phelen Kell had to be secretly made because of this.
>>
>>98061700
Or just pick a different relative to get it. Nephews and cousins and sometimes even uncles are in line for the title. Probably multiple titles even.
>>
>>98061722
>Phelen Kell had to be secretly made because of this.
The Kells weren't nobility when Phelan was born
>>
>>98061722
>assistive childmaking of any kind is severely looked down on as illegitimate in the Successor States.
Not by IlClan era, virtually everyone ruling a House is from illegitimate branches and everyone just accepts it.
>>
>>98061736
Yes, ilClan era. Everyone is from branches, not illegitimate. The only exception is the one propped up by the Black Dragons because she's from the Sakamoto bastards. It's no different than Katrina ousting Allesandro in the 3020's or Hanse being the younger second brother, etc.

>>
>>98061834
Excuse me, "was she not a Marik", she died in 3148, but her kid's not a real Marik either.
>>
>>98061834
Mostly that Oriente won the cold civil war in the DA between Regulus, Tamarind, Oriente and Marik-Stewart. Her mother even cucked her husband and married the Marik paladin to legitimize the line.
>>
>>98061854
Wait, just saw you said Jessica. Then, replace mother with Jessica. Ironically, was the only one of the DA lords to actually have the right amount of children. Lester sure honed that down, too, god bless him.

>>
>>98062168
>>
>>98062168
>>98062222
That falls to the same category as the previous references to the games, like the plot of Mech Commander being recapped in the Operation Bulldog campaign book, or Carver IV canonically changing its name to Liberty after the events of MC2. The actual game events aren't canon, but the basic details did happen. Davion Guards did launch an operation of capture Port Arthur from the Jags, engaged in a guerrilla campaign against them, and were rescued by arrival of Drac reinforcements. The Black Inferno was a pirate band that existed and raided the planets it did in the game. The part where you beat them with your lance composed entirely of Atlases with lostech weapons didn't canonically happen.
>>
bloody hell, hinterlands campaign's a bit fucking tight. 3k bv? for two mechs maximum? is it even worth bringing two 4/5 chucklefucks in 1,500 bv beaters, or just bring one decent guy at 3/4 in something nice?
>>
also, they fucked up their AS pv's. at 100 points for two mechs, you could bring two skill 3 hbk c's at 50 points... which is 5 k bv back in cbt. effectively letting you play AS mode with a giant advantage? maybe that's to reflect how fast stuff dies in AS?
>>
>>98062318
Drac Reach is reportedly better structured and more realistic in BV prices than Hinterlands is. Might want to go by the new hotness.
>>
>>98062318
Depends, does it let you bring a pair of TR1 Wraiths?
>>
>>98062327
>If playing your campaign using the Alpha Strike rules, your initial force may have one, two, or three Mechs but a 100 Point Value (PV) limit instead of BV (see p. 28, AS:CE).
and you get way less BSP, so you have to pay with PV for that
>>
>>98062332
i thought that was put in 'da trove?'
>>98062342
to whit "You start Chaos Campaign: Mercenaries with 3,000 Battle
Value (BV) to spend on one or two ’Mechs . You may select any
’Mech and variant from the box sets or ForcePacks you have .
You must have one ’Mech; you can have two . You cannot go
over 3,000 BV .
For Alpha Strike, you have the same unit limits, but a
100 Point Value (PV) limit instead of BV (see Alpha Strike:
Commander’s Edition, p . 28) . For more unit type options or
alternative starting rules, see Company Options page 36 and
House/Clan Military Commands page 39 ."

hmmm, alpha strike setup lets you take a griffin C and a rifleman c3 into battle.

"You start with two named pilots (Mech-
Warriors), with Gunnery 4 and Piloting 5 (AS:
Skill 4) . They each have 1 Edge token, and you
can allocate 150 SP to each of your initial named
pilots . For example, the player can add 60 SP to
Edge Tokens to start with 2 Edge Tokens, and use
the remaining 90 SP to start toward advancing
Gunnery (or Alpha Strike Skill) .
Note that the Skills of named pilots do not
affect the Battle Value (or Point Value) of units in a
mercenaries campaign ."

look at this faggoty shit! i have two whole mechs in my entire fucking outfit, at most... and you want me to let some fucking retarded monkey who can't even walk a mech in a straight fucking line without risking HARA KIRI?
>>
>>98062375
The DCMS lost so many regiments when they lost the Tongue that they have a massive influx of 4/5-tier replacements in their ranks. They went from having elite troops with equipment issues to having an abundance of gear being piloted by green noobs, being reinforced by Ghost Regiment trainers. That stupid bitch Yori gutted Galedon's and Benjamin's regulars just to be rid of Toranaga.
>>
>>98062392
its srill retarded. mercenaries don't recruit young dweebs who just passed basic and haven't even fucking graduated their specialty / service school, they hang around every special forces outfit they can and try and buy off/up their "operators".
>>
>>98062401
Don't the big named outfits make you do shitwork on your track before you're qualified for full membership?
>>
>>98062422
yes. they take cadets on, and make them train up before they ever get near a mech and a battlefield.

no merc outfit with any brains is going to let fucking 4/5 fucktards behind the wheel of their precious battlemechs.
>>
>>98062436
The good pilots are laughing at the pathetic size of your operation. And the fact that you would let someone else pilot your own personal mech just because they're better than you.
>>
>>98062401

But wouldn't the case of Jaleg Yorulis and Piter Dobrowski be a dime and a dozen for those who end up in mercenary groups: those who failed to be allowed to have a career in a Great House Fiefdom/Successor State military despite coming from an academy and becoming mercenaries as a result. Add in sexism if you're a woman (Tracey Maxwell Kent becoming a mercenary because her father used his clout to have her expelled in a Federated Suns military academy, which led her to Blackely's Blackguards until that unit was dissolved and leading her to join the Gray Death Legion).
