Fuck it. What's left of Warhammer 40k anyway. Do it. Charge the pigs twice the price. Why have hobbies that make you actually do things. The rest of us will carry on with our handpainted Oldhammer, skirmish games, historicals etc.
>>98059307That seems highly unlikely given how much money GW makes on their overpriced paints and how they're building a new factory specifically to make those paints.
>>98059314Yeah I feel like of the people buying models only a fraction actually plays.I suppose terrain is the exception though, very little people who only paint are going to pick up terrain, and conversely, most players aren't fond of painting terrain. It makes sense within that specific niche. Terrain is already kind of a special case anyway, it being made in china and all.
>>98059307When the British economy bottoms out, it will be cheaper to hire cockney orphans (long since displaced to essex) to hand-paint them, than to install an automated system.
>>98059307If it means less Gray Tide, why not?
>>98059565No it doesn't. People will find a way to have unpainted armies in a game of prepainted figures.
>>98059321I think most people just make their own terrain, I know I have. But granted it’s not something people typically want to buy and paint like the armies.
>>98059565As long as unpainted figures are available for cheaper, the grey tide is here to stay.
>>98059649MDF terrain is a pretty big selling point, especially the pre-painted (or more accurately, printed in color) stuff that you just pop out and slot together. It's not the prettiest terrain without adding extra details to break up the obvious MDF giveaways in the corners and edges, but it gets the job done for most tables.
>>98059321>>98059649Yeah, if I'm making my own terrain, I'm going to paint it myself, but if I were to buy a big ready block of terrain anyway I would much rather just have it pre-painted too.
>>98059307I do think its likely. Thought I’m imagining somewhat limited. Probably only on the box colors, so if you want your own guys, you gotta paint them yourself.>>98059321Never understood why people don’t like painting terrain. Drybrushing makes it so incredibly easy.
>>98060296>Never understood why people don’t like painting terrain.I would just much rather paint one of the cool minis I have waiting in line rather than a random wall or house. It's just not as exciting or satisfying
>>98060474In my experience, dioramafagging is way more fun than brushfagging. Then again I came into wargaming from the scale model side.
>>98059314This sounds a bit like Kodak's justification for stopping their work on early digital cameras lol
>>98060474Terrain painting is a bit different to minis. You can generally be more messy on the large surfaces, much larger than what you have in most minis. There's no mistakes, just happy accidents.
Painting terrain isn't bad. You just use rattlecans / air brush and crafts store acrylics for everything that isn't detailing and highlighting. (and even then sometimes for those too)That said GW likely doesn't earn much from that.
>>98060474I've been going the other way.I've been getting a lot of joy out of building a random wall out of the bottom of a tub, and some polystyrene, and painting it grey then speckling it with lichen.Scratchbuilds are supremely satisfying.
>>98060825Fpr mamy, painting IS the hobby. Very few people developed their own pictures out of joy and those that did probably didn't use kodak.
>>98059314I think people are just going to buy paint regardless. Prepainted miniatures will work great for competitive types who dump entire armies just to chase a meta, you know the kinds who strictly stick to three colours and a painted base.
>>98059307I feel you OP. I have 7 armies of like 1-2K pts a piece and I’m married with children. I can play endlessly with what I already have so fine, let it die
>>98059565im going to buy prepainted and spray them grey
>>98059307Maybe GW saw all the market of people painting other people's armies and went>we can just cut the middle man and get his share of the cashwhich is something that amuses me to no end.
>>98059314Which means they can charge a premium on prepainted minis because they used such "premium" paints
>>98063537Unironically what would happen. People would buy prepainted models, strip or basecoat over the paint and go "I will totally paint them with my custom colour scheme... some day."
