That's a decent look for Valhallan. wish they had a different weapon pattern but otherwise they're very spiffy
I love the design of the heavy snow boots and the coat is great, it makes the ice warriors more than just soviets in space. I suppose it's something like wiring or hot water pipes, either is very cool.

Hoping we get a valhallan KT, would love to add a squad of these along my other regiments to each an even richer guard soup.

If the sword is on your left hip (as in the image), you draw it with your right hand.
Similarly, the pistol (on the model) is oriented for a cross body draw, meaning he would hold it with his right hand.

>Which in your opinion is the most well-written BL novel? I tend to listen to audio books because they are simply not worth reading much of the time, but if you had to pick one that actually has good prose and warrants the time investment, which one would it be?

Death or Glory is my favorite. A lot of the earlier Cain books really. As an extra bonus, the Cain books are written in first-person narrative with occasional interjections from Amberley. Which is a great format for audiobooks.

still gotta do the eyes and base, but the bouncer is pretty much done. also, as an update, I had a normie friend pick out the color scheme for the bouncer originally, and she said “it would look cool if he had a dark green shirt with black armor to look tough”. very orky choice. however, she also asked if she could name these three gits, and when I said yes, she ended up naming them “Alexander, Oswald, and Leonard” not a very orky choice, but those are their names now.

Its "wrong" in the sense that Cain canonically uses his right hand to shoot. He's got augmetic fingers on that hand and is always talking about how they help steady his aim. Just a placebo according to Amberley.

But since he's clearly posing for the camera in that miniature, the hand he's using doesn't matter. Shit, in the artwork he's also preening for the camera, and using a bolt pistol instead of his usual laspistol (visible in its holster) because it looks cooler.

Valhallan 597th Kill Team or Combat Patrol would have a lot of things going for it aesthetically.

You got the mixed-sex regiment, the Valhallan outfits, the Spetsnaz infantry+light vehicles style, and Cain himself. A Commissar who frequently attaches himself at the squad level.

It also gets used so often as an Inquisitors' personal Guard regiment that you could throw Amberley and some of her goons in as Imperial Agents.

Also, Kasteen is a babe

Ah, that's how they're gonna ruin it, by having the regiments with the big thick coats have half of the bodies obviously boob'd.

Hopefully the new season of kill team is GW trying to remove the limitation of "only squads", so we may see some fun stuff as well.

Here's what I've got finished so far. The Wraithlord with the Rangers was my Crucible Character for last month's collage. This is the stuff I'm working on right now.
>Wave Serpent (Just needs some touchups before being done)
>Wraithblades (Working a bit on the weapons right now, then just need to do their bases)
>Some Warlocks, a Farseer, and a Spiritseer (Bases again, plus some small details here and there)
>Guardians (Weapons and bases, plus some edge highlighting on the armor)
>A 3rd Wraithlord (Weapons and Bases, again)

On the backburner I have 10 more Wraithguard, Eldrad Ulthran, and a Falcon all primed ready for painting, Infinity's Lament some Aspect Warriors, and a few other Characters ready for Priming, and a kitbashed Wraithseer I'm still working on. All that's gonna be put on hold though so I can work on my Big Guy for this month's collage (He's already primed and ready for painting this week, just want to get the Eldar off the painting table first).

Hot take but more Imperials should look weird and partly inhuman like this. The Imperium is spread across a million worlds with people mutating and drifting genetically, and sometimes that's not QUITE enough to reach the status of full on abhuman like a Ratling or an Ogryn but it would still look weird to us. Imperials shouldn't all look like normal people from the 3rd millennium.

I can't choose between the following color schemes for my craftworld:

>white and dark blue
>either of the above, but with bone color instead of white

The problem is, I also want to set aside a color scheme for Exodites in case they get added next, and I don't want them to be too similar to my craftworlders.

Often painted too plainly, greebles and stuff on their armour look better done as gemstones, and the undersuits look better done in a darker colour than the outer plates, but at some point 'eavy metal started getting really lazy with eldar and doing them in these extremely boring schemes lacking detail where all that stuff is one solid colour.

Aesthetics have also gotten weaker over time, the cone head helmets have changed shape to become more boring instead of swooping back with detail and strange, interesting geometry. Shuriken catapults got less interesting looking too generally, with the big disc section taken out and now they look more like a standard gun.

Just lots of stuff like this had added up over time. Eldar have the potential to look really cool and alien but so many of the minis or the official ways they are painted don't do them justice at all.

Nothing about that is logical. Jet packs are heavy, bulky, require fuel which is limited, they get in the way of trying to do indoors operations, they're useless in tunnels and mostly useless in boarding actions, all the kinds of stuff marines are primarily most useful for. They are a niche tool to use when the situation requires it.

Marines typically do not take fights in big open spaces. If there's a massive field to fight over you don't send fucking marines, you send titan legions.

Considering that it's bad form and unhealthy for the governor of a planet to off-load mutants and such to the Guard to get rid of them, we probably aren't gonna see many wildly varied forms in the Guard. Anything that doesn't pass the muster but is still useful gets rounded to Abhuman regiments. GW isn't even bothering to make Navigators as freaky as they show them to be in art and fluff, so I'm not gonna hold my breath when it comes to James coming up with something creative unless it's for a one-off Kill Team release or something.

Your best bet is to start converting your own and using whatever rules you find most suiting. Or play 30k Militia and go wild with all the provenances and wargear.

Yeah, they suck and will be even worse

Ideally they should be split in two separate units - male only and female only. Trying to fit both into one unit will be disappointing and won't let lean into correct theme.
Females should be Sword and Sorcery inspired and vary from being completely naked to wearing bikini armor.
Males should be based on popculture gladiators
This will obviously never happen. They will be even worse that they are now. This is why GW shouldn't even try. They should fully refresh Haemonculi and Mercenaries instead and expand on Mandrakes and Incubi. They could "update" Kabals too, but those guys still don't need it and kits will be a downgrade anyway.

No point in touching Wyches in current political climate. They can't make them work so why bother?

What other marine units would you even add to Thousand Sons? They already got rubrics and terminators and several types of sorcerers. They don't use bikes or jump packs, there are no rubric raptors. Maybe a TS version of havocs? I guess that would fit them. And like another anon said, give them a unique dreadnought. But other than that they really don't need more marines, the range should be expanded with other mutant Tzeentch stuff like the tzaangors, mutalith beast, and so on, they need more types of those minions.
>>
>>98069839
See that's the thing about chaos, it isn't the imperium so it doesn't need that. "Chaos agents" codex is called "chaos space marines" and everything is supposed to be mixed in there already. And if you want to play with the mixed stuff of just one god, you have "thousand sons" "world eaters" "emperors children" and "death guard".

Nah, it goes against their theme. Rubrics are slow, plodding, near-mindless automatons, armour suits filled with dust. They don't ride bikes or fly, it's just goofy and defeats the purpose. You want to make them something that isn't Thousand Sons.

5. psychic dreadnought
6. new recruits, mutant sorcerers who just didn't have tzeentch's favor to become a real sorcerer
7. new mutant chaff of new marines who act as an in between unit of goors and rubrics

Yeah, there's a good fucking reason why people ignore it. 90% shit Gav wrote for eldar sucks dick. And 100% of the shit Mike "I'm a gigantic troon supporting faggot" Brooks are unfettered shit that is only worth using as toilet paper.

As a whole it has gotten to the point that GW doesn't even bother involving the eldar in any of the recent narrative.
And better that it stays that way because modern eldar "lore" is so fucking bad that I don't want GW to write anything for them, because more they write, shittier they make the eldar.
Like the retarded and pointless Wraithbone retcon that only serves to ruin a unique aspect of the eldar.
>>

>Like the retarded and pointless Wraithbone retcon that only serves to ruin a unique aspect of the eldar.
People overstate this. Wraithbone is still summoned warp energy that bonesingers sing into existence and shape. It isn't manufactured or mined out. GW just in their infinite retardation, felt the need to specify what that warp energy becomes materially speaking once summoned.

A chunk of it was already repackaged terrain from Speed Freaks (which had also been repackaged in the mek workshop). It's definitely possible, based on previous editions they are likely to do some lower price point starter sets that swap out faction minis from each side for some terrain and it would be well suited for that. However with their recently announced pre-painted terrain, I suspect that might be what they include in those sets instead.

>>
>>98070654
NTA but since he refuses to stop being obtuse and say what it actually says, he's referring to a bit where it talks about the makeup of wraithbone, apparently now referred to as a composite of minerals infused with psychic energy, as opposed to being raw psychic energy somehow turned into a solid form.
>>
>>98070669
I am aware, I know that passage because it is in the codex and I just read it. Page 24 btw. I am not happy with that "addition" to the lore either, but acting like it is some colossal retcon is retarded when nothing in the codex actually goes out of it's way to discredit the notion of wraithbone being still summoned from the warp let alone ever alludes to the eldar having to mine for metals and ores in order to make wraithbone.
It is still described as a psychically grown material that the bonesingers forge and shape. It is genuinely a choise to treat this as a some glaring retcon as opposed to the (more likely) unnecessary specificiation/elaboration on what wraithbone is materially once it has been summoned.

>Sisters should not be corrupted by chaos
Sisters have never been immune to chaos or chaos corruption, that is an unironic myth made up by people who legit don't know.

As a whole the Imperial Cult/religion doesn't truely protect anyone from corruption of chaos, since you can become corrupted by chaos by being too fanatical and fervent believer. And this is a real issue because the Ordo Hereticus exists, whose entire job is to keep tabs on Imperial Cult, the Ecclesiarchy and yes, even the Sisters of Battle.
Sisters are ones who actually would be in very high risk of this, especially so because they are very often portrayed being almost insane when it comes to worshipping the Emperor.

Do you think that the blades used by Bloodthirsters contain metal forged from minerals mined in the material universe? When warp shit manifests in real space, it can and does assume material properties. Nothing in the codex states that the eldar have to mine for the materials the wraithbone consists of. You are simply choosing to interpret the lore that way when nothing in the lore actually makes such a claim.

Yeah I did the annoying meme of looking at different sci-fi universe stuff and thinking “what if 40k.”
In my defense I didn’t bring up 40k relating to logh until now here.

Games workshop is a shit company. Absolute garbage. Enjoy your dying game while it lasts. It deserves to die along with all the trannies who play it now. Only a cuck would play a game published by a company that hates them. They don't even put out models that the fans like. Imagine playing a game that doesn't sell you all the things you need to play the game? Imagine playing a game that forces you to buy 3rd party shit. Wouldn't catch me playing that game.

You could use a hobby. Doesn’t have to be warhammer related.
But in think you gave a good answer.
Some warhammer players get curious about alternatives and then find out the communities of the alternatives have high concentrations of superiority conplex ridden hipsters and go back to warhammer.
The hipsters of the alts aren’t solely for why Games Workshop stays on top, but they really help more than they are comfortable with knowing.

I actually find it more fantastical having enough energy to shield the entire planet, let alone enough energy to destroy said planet in a single blast.
Shielded cities and anti-orbital artillery forcing besiegers to land on the far side of the planet and trekk it on foot (Vraks) make much more sense.

Planetary shields seem really freaking common and strong. Han said there's no way an entire fleet can destroy Alderaan and the Rebels on Hoth had a shield that could withstand all bombardment from the Star Destroyers there while remaining hidden. The EU even had the latter shield be in-universe a crappy shield they got because they couldn't get the best stuff too. It's really easy exterminatus proofing there.

I am not sure if it counts as tracing given that they’re heavily modified.

I'm here because I have an army of steel legion sitting in boxes since 2017 when I thought about getting into this and I check back here to get a feel for what is popular because I want to sell those and get rid of them and get my money back. I have never played 40k and I think it's stupid and my purchase was a mistake. I don't want to paint my army. I don't want to go to have to make friends with some normie dad basedjak at a gameshop and have to rely on strangers to play with. It's not convenient to play these games.

Old school wargamers who play with Napoleonic's or civil war games are based though. They respect history and don't mess around with this childish 40k shit.
>>
>>98071410
You can have everything but you must be consistent:
You can be proof against Viral Bomb Exterminatus, most plausible one, and you can have siege-proof hive shields (fed by geothermics) that force the enemy to commit an assault. That can explain why you need to play a tabletop match instead of solving it from orbit.

But if you have a cyclonic torpedo or death star laser than can magically pump 99 quadrillion gigatonnes worth of TNT as long as you hit any part of a planet, then yeah you don't need anything else. Just keep shooting that magical gun, seeing you can afford it somehow. Literally Marvel tier.

Also, if you have a shield capable of deflecting ship guns then it's completely detectable and 0% stealthy
>>
>>98071380
>Did this come after the upside down space wolf boltguns?
Nah, people just had a sperg out when it came to the death guard praetors, but those were using the wax supported printing, which has become a normal thing for the industry to be able to get concept prints out quickly.

Anything Imperial Armour is very good, to be honest. People meme about Vraks, and mega super joke about Amarah. They claim that it had Kriegers charge monoliths with bayonets. But they simply rushed the monoliths (with melta bombs) under artillery cover to keep them pinned down. That's an entirely valid tactic, and they did have the numbers to do it.

Vraks is very nice and satisfying.

that's the far more common version, in both star wars and 40k.
It's also why exterminatus isn't always the go to, since yes they usually can crack heavy void shields, but because they too are so overpowered to get through such things you're essentially throwing a sledge hammer at something that would have been better either slowly chipped away or destroying the supports of to get the job done.

Lastly I think it is hard to say whether Brooks is a good sell.
BL has a bit of a bad streak and I think tie in novels to franchises have this as well with the best examples being mediocre to books first written to be books.
And then there is the paypiggy aspect that needs to be considered.
I just don’t know how many variables need to be considered before conclusions can be made.

Being sadists they subject their own dark eldar kind to the humiliation of having to fornicate with a mon’keigh slave if the act of doing so is a terrible subjection for dark eldar.
I think this would fit in canon quite well.
And I think gw should have an actual female author who pumps out romance novels to write a dark eldar book about her self insert female mc being used as a torture device in such a way. Then the typical romance novels for female readers stuff happens after that.
Those romance novels sell well for women and gw is just ignoring the gold vault they have the keys for.

Why do nomodels think lore isn't the main reason people play warhammer?
>>
>>98071742
>Those romance novels sell well for women
This just in, Space Wolves surpass Tyranids as the faction for women. Sisters of Battle remain the femboy faction
>>
>>98071751
>Anyways keep your expectations of BL books low so you get surprised.
Yeah, that's why I used 'entertaining' instead of 'good'.

I do like Word Bearers, so I guess I'll grab it then
>>
>>98071701
>>98071722
Pretty sure I saw a warhammer comic but it’s in Korean and it’s more of a gag thing for Aos. There are also already artists like idiot of the east that basically already do free advertisement for warhammer. Also this is a British company that likes to keep stuff in house so they aren’t prone to do things smartly.

black library lore is mostly irrelevant
secondaries hate this opinion because 90% of "deep lore" they know is from BL novels
push them about any obscure lore that,'d be found in codexes etc and it'll expose them as secondaries and tourists

they shill BL because it's all they know, and it's all they know because the lore from said novels is easily accessible on youtube

majority of people who hype this model have never touched a cain book
>>

GW should have female novelists put out a romance novel between a female Mc and a dark eldar man.
And the dark eldar refresh includes muscular male dark eldar models coinciding with its release.
Then dark eldar become the number one selling models among women and Slavs because gachimuchi still lives on in Eastern Europe.
>>
>>98071775
I really don’t think those artists count because they aren’t official. Just fanart makers.
Though I do prefer their stuff over the usual social media “art” put out.
Even the worst East Asian fanart is often leagues better than the slop put out by users of countries everywhere else.
I don’t understand why and I think it is beyond a matter of taste.

NTA but this was my first Ciaphas Cain book since when i was younger and only collecting tau and i was desperate for a tau novel.
I got duped since they were barely around, but at least i got a cool rail rifle scene and fun ciaphas times.
I really wish BL had more authors like Sandy because his stories are enjoyable and know what they are, but instead we have Dan Abnett and people trying to emulate him who are desperate to be more than just a fun offshoot of tabletop games fluff.
>>
>>98071894
Nta but stop
You’ve already messed up and your blunder is just gonna bigger the more you flail about.
>>
>>98071898
My problem with Sandy is that he just writes the same book over and over again
Maybe it's my fault for binge reading the Cain books, but you really start to notice it after the 3rd one in a row
>>
>>98071910
They do get samey. But I think that's partially due to them being in-universe memoires from someone who never expected his lover to edit and publish them. Cain himself didn't make them adventure novels.
>>

I did notice that after picking up the omnibus, but they're generally a fun read so it's easy to look past it, and in terms of BL author cliches it's definetly not the worst.

>>
>>98071910
It's always been a problem with longer series like Ciaphas Cain, Gaunt's Ghosts or Gotrek & Felix. Reading novels on their own was fun, but reading 3-4 in a row was rough. I tended to take a break while reading an omnibus and read other stuff between novels.

40k has a lot of competition in Japan. Gundam has a chokehold because of it being an iconic franchise and Japanese like supporting their own products. There is a decent sized community for 40k in Japan but it's a niche franchise there, China loves 40k though.
>>
>>98071957
oh I definely liked it, but i'd never read a ciaphas cain book before then so i was thinking Tau were going to play a much larger part in the story.

Grass is greener on the other side, I guess.
I even saw Genkan Kobo gassing up Citadel paints when people here shit on them as overpriced (and the weak yen makes them even more expensive in Japan).

I don't know much about the Korean 40k scene but China loves dark fantasy sci-fi settings. 40k is surprisingly popular in hobby spaces in China, you can even find references to it in some of their games.
40k is niche in Japan however because it's pretty expensive and there aren't enough people to play games with due to how small the playerbase is there.

I think the GW model captures the Cain smug look a lot better than the 3rd party one, and will stand out better from the tabletop.
When you're looking at a tiny face from standing height you're not going to see a smug look or Flashman sideburns unless it's very exaggerated.

Koreans come off as cynical and jaded and they would be into something like 40k, and most of them have been in the military
I don't know about China
Model kits never went out of fashion in Japan, and only got more popular with gundam, mecha in general, and even anime characters get their own models. So minis have a lot of competition, I read that when western companies tried to introduce them in the 80's but they had to appeal to garage kits and model kits. It's niche.

New rumor from multiple sources is that point costs are now going to scale with the number of duplicate units you have in your list. So the first unit costs x, the second unit costs x + 25 the third unit costs x + 50, for example. Probably meant to discourage skew lists. No word on if battle line will be exempt from this or not,

Leaving aside that this setting is definitely NOT meant to be realistic, let's look at the players involved, and their goals.

>Planets
Usually have enough resources to be totally self-sufficient, and can breed new troops, so you can't just blockade them to death. Some planets like Terra rely on imported food of course.

>Imperium, Votann
Want resources, food, lebensraum. This relies on taking the planet, which relies on landing people on the ground to actually live there, which means wiping all enemies from the planet surface. You could do this with orbital bombardment but then you've got a Death World instead of an inhabitable planet.
>Eldar
Want to get soulstones back, or reclaim Eldar worlds, or just not die.
>Chaos
They're after the same things as the Imperium, but in many cases, they're also specifically after the people and their souls and emotions. Nurgle or Khorne would much more enjoy a protracted hundred years long campaign on the planet surface, than they would cutting off supply lines for a week.
>Orks
Fighting in person is their entire raison d'etre.
>Necrons
Often they just woke up under the planet's surface.
>Tyranids
See Imperium. Being mindless animals directed by a more intelligent hive mind, they may also lack the know-how to carry out a planetary blockade when they could just satisfy their hunger and evolve themselves in combat on each world.
>Tau
See Imperium. They are the most likely to blockade a world, on the flipside though they lack warp drives so should actually prefer being on the ground.

It's the same reason why America can't win wars in Afghanistan or Iran or Vietnam just by carpet bombing the place from the sky; insurgencies go underground. In order to win wars, you need boots in the ground.
