What would you like to see?
>TQThey'll do away with the faggy gems that dwarves have in fantasy, they'll probably make them edgy though. Something that leans dwarves into a more grimdark approach. Though I cant imagine what that would look like. >What would you like to see?I'd like to see the rumored valaya aspect keep the females units occupied in their own kit/unit. Something like how wood elves have the option to have wild hunters and sisters of the woods or whatever. Or high elves shadow elves and the sisters. I'd also like to see the magmadroth east asian influence to be shared with the overall range but its very unlikely to happen, probably wouldn't like it anyways.
>>98082553>>98082562I know whq heroes usually tend to be somewhat divorced from the main game, but the manticore knight ended up being pretty close to the gallants so it's not out of the question that we get a ranger type unit in the style of Drolf.I wouldn't mind the draconic magmadroth esque motif staying across the whole range either.
>>98082553>TQ I've been wondering about that for a while now, Fyreslayers and KO took the big unique aspects of Fantasy dwarves so I'm really not sure what they could use as the main hook for the Khazalids. Ancestor worship? Being so crotchety their complaining has a tangible effect on reality like the old Longbeard rules?
>>98082579>manticore knight ended up being pretty close to the gallantsActually he's an exception to Gallants and the Archknights that predate him
>>98082731>crested helmet >no corded mantle >no material from the iconic animal (even the Rook had feathers)arguably the shield stands out too given no other CoS character has a bespoke sculpted heraldry frame
>>98082746He's kind of weirdly inbetween the two. Like the cavaliers and gallants he has his animal as a crest on top of his helmet as opposed to kind of worked into it (you can see the griffin being part of the knight's helmet while the owl is more "on top" of the gallant's)He also doesn't have the cord or fur or whatever, but he DOES have the crown emblem.Weird guy.
>>98082553>TQI don't think they will even try. If KO gets souped in then they'll probably just go full steampunk with the other new machinery but if they don't I fully expect them to make just the most bog standard tolkien inspired dwarves. Fyreslayers was clearly too much of a financial letdown and it doesn't make sense to take more risks when they can do something they know will sell. AoS dispossesed never really had any identity beyond just being Fantasy dwarves anyway, and I highly doubt they came up with something new for them when they couldn't even come up with a 3rd model for Fyreslayers.>>98082579except that WHQ sold like shit, was lambasted in reviews and no one wants ranger dwarves.
>>98082553I think they'll be more standard WHF Dwarfs given Kevin Chin was the WHF Dwarf art guy (though he does all the iconic Duardin art too) and he joined the concept art team sometime before 4th would've begun.I think we'll see stuff like the art for 8th edition dwarfs that didn't make it into miniatures (because art and concept art are technically detached) The Grombrindal novel had a regular slayer, with his Ur Gold ripped out, which might hint at Ur Gold being reserved for heroes though this character was a disgraced Fyreslayer who became like a slayer to Fyreslayers - more shamed than the existing !slayer Fyreslayers (exile, grimwraith, and doomseeker LMAO one note) I suspect they'll just have Skaven corrupt Ur Gold so the purity of Ur Gold is rarer and the distilled runes are for the elite only (who also have the burden of fighting the corruption in themselves to use it)
>>98083021>except that WHQ sold like shitWhere? In the US at least it sold like gangbusters. Most shops were having issues keeping it in stock when they had preorders in the triple digits. Flipside gaming on ebay alone had 400 of them and had them all depleted on pre-order day. >was lambasted in reviewsYeah it was kinda mediocre. esp for the price.>no one wants ranger dwarves.Trvth nvke sadly.
>>98083021>no one wants ranger dwarvesspeak for yourself
>>98083021I don't think kharadron will get souped in. Maybe there will be an AoR that lets you take them, but they won't be a core part of the army>whq sold like shitI don't think that would matter anyway, those minis were ready long before it launched
>>98083044>chinOh he did the dorf stuff from 8th too? I had no idea.He has to be modern gw's best artist right?
>>98083109It’s possible.
>>98083109Yeah, the main pieces and all the decorative elements like lodge heraldry and marginalia. He has a distinctive style though he has changed it up a bit for the more cartoony UW stuff and painterly for AoS I guess
Ive been gone since mid-3rd. Can anyone point me where I can find lore catchup, or spoon feed my ass?
>>98083130>mid-3rdoh don't worry, nothing big happened during 3rd, the campaigns at the end of the edition were 2 nothinburgers, a few new characters or character developments here and there, but nothing truly groundbreakingthe lore development is just that skaven telefragged a third of the aqshian continent at the start of 4th
>>98083148>skaven telefragged a third of the aqshian continent at the start of 4thHa, thats great. Hows the hollowing of the sigmarines and whats destruction up to?
>>98083125I feel like he has several styles. You havr the fairly photorealistic 'modern' one he uses for most of his pieces including the dwarf stuff, he has a softer more cartoony one for underworlds, and then sometimes he pulls out crazy shit like picrel for a lot of his chaos stuff. Very striking style, fits chaos quite well imo.
>>98083152>Hows the hollowing of the sigmarines significantly worsened; the ruination chamber has been opened and it's full of stormies on their last reforgings; turns out that the god morrda is granting some stormcasts the ability to execute their kind to grant them final oblivion instead of going completely mad, when the time is rightalso ionus cryptborn has been promoted and got a sweet dragon ride; while vandus hammerhand got mindbroken when khorgos khul cucked their rivalry by embracing ego death and killing a different stormcast special character to ascend to full blown demonhood; we're still waiting for how the demon looks or what's vandus state now, but he was put in one of the citadel monasteries where the ruined stormcasts go>whats destruction up to?same old nothing, really, king brodd smashed fort gardus, and gardus; we saw the king of trolls carving a path through aqshy; and kragnos was put back into a cage of sort by the dragons and lizards, an eternal timeloop limbo of sort where he is put at bay by endless waves of saurus, except when the realms align just fine and the prison glitches him back into reality for some time to justify the game battlesthe sun-side of goblins with wolves saw a modest range of models, but noone was satisfied because they're lumped together with the night goblins and have some counterintuitive fluff where they are bedecked in sun iconography and live in the sun but actually hate the sun just as much as the night goblins
>>98083178oh, and forgot to mention it, sigmar recalled the sacrosanct chamber from the realms, they have officially failed at finding a cure for the reforging flawsbut this is all insignificant in the wake of the rumors of what's about to happen next year
>>98083178>turns out that the god morrda is granting some stormcasts the ability to execute their kind to grant them final oblivion instead of going completely mad, when the time is rightI still think this is lame
What paint range was the one everyone was going crazy about for their metallics again, was it Vallejo?
>>98083178Thats all actually kinda cool I guess. Better than what I was expecting.Ive got like 5k points of gitz, was breathing hopium they had gotten up to something. Honestly it was the sun tribe that caused my to take the break in the first place. I like "dank".
>>98083252There's been some rumour engines that might be git related, and there's been mentions of them getting attention in the end of edition stuff next year, but these don't really come from any of the reliable rumour people so take it with a grain of salt
Is the Age of Sigmar: Soulbound ttrpg any good?
>>98083276It’s fine. It had its time but now it’s just whatever. That being said I am interested in chaos bound but it needed a heavy errata last I checked.
>>98083261Im not sure what more they really need. I guess a spider-rider refresh? They have so many hero models already.
>>98083301The endless spells could be redone. Also scutlers.
>>98083307>The endless spells could be redone.I guess. The spider one is funky, but the "mushroom" cloud is pretty charming.>scuttlersI hate it, but I want it.
Female Blissbarb archers should have had one tit both to continue the one-boob motif that Slaanesh has and to reference the mythological practice of Amazons removing one breast to make archery easier
Ya know this actually brings up a good question:First question: Do (you) think that we should get a new wave of endless spells? Like a new box akin to Malign sorcery? (I'm gonna hazard the guess is no, but let's assume GW reworks endless spells from where they are now and makes them actually interesting)Second Question: Which factions do you think could use a refresh on their endless spells, which faction do you think has the coolest endless spells?
>>98083301I think the idea was new troll(s) and refreshed stabbas/shootasThough again, grain of salt>>98083384I'm going to be honesty I really don't care about endless spells one way or the otherBest one was the beastmen charging bull, rip.
>>98083130The Skaven Quake is way worse than the Necroquake and Ghur Quake! Trust guys, the hierarchy of power in the mortal realms is about to change forever!
>Allies of the Free Cities doesn't let you take RoR Seriously why do GW hate fun?
>>98083413Everyone keeps copying nagash's quaking capabilities
I picked up Thanatek’s Tithe (new Ossiarchs) and a 50% off Emberguard core box. Someone sell me on Underworlds, is it fun? Do most people try to keep up with the deckbuilding aspect or just play with the deck each team gives them? The only deckbuilding I’ve done is Slay the Spire.
>>98083421>nagash's quaking capabilitiesTo be fair, that was indirectly (but necessarily) caused by Skaven actions as well.
>>980834281E of underworlds (everything pre Emberguarde) was the shit, also everything not model wise has 0 cross compatability so yipeeeeeeee.BUT the game itself is actually quite solid, it's less deck buildy than it used to be, now it's mostly a deck picker that's mostly based around positioning and using your little squads abilities to try and get objective cards. Launch of Underworlds had a more deck building aspect with a wide variety of cards, every warband came with a deck, but that stopped when Rivals decks became a thing in.... I wanna sayyyy whatever the one with the stormcast lady on the front was. Then after doing a few things they randomly swapped to a "2e" which is mostly just the same thing but you can't use old shit and like 80% of the warbands dont' have updates....
>>98083413I mean in this case, it seems like it actually will.Pretty funny that skaven will be 2 for 2 in kickstarting the world-destroying apocalypse
Posting more from my Blighted Wilds game because I'm convinced no one here actually plays the game
>>98083482So if I pick up an old warband it’s not usable in the newer version or are they just stuck with the cards they get? How do you know what the warband playstyles are? Since it’s a smaller skirmish game it seems very different via the hex movement.
>>98083567All warbands are usable as far as I know, you just get the little "generic" card for em that has pre-set stuff. It's 99% based on decks nowadays so there's less flavor for individual warbands. Playstyles are kinda set into the decks you use, certain warbands just mesh better with certain decks. (Like Zarbag's gitz would be good for something about grabbing objectives or moving around, but god fucking awful for something based around killing people) If I had to summarize the warband styles you got: 3 big guys that hit hard and are tanky but slow as fuck, like 10 million little shitters, 1 bigass guy that murders everything and some little dudes that are basically just so your opponent has an oppurtunity to score points, and then more generalized warbands. (I'd say wizard warband but they got rid of spellcasting in 2e)But if you pick up an older warband that has the deck in the box the deck is borderline useless with the new version (you can kinda get it to work but it'll be janky.) The only decks you can use are the ones that come with the boxes or are sold separately for too much. I'm shit talking the game but I do genuinely enjoy underworlds, I'm just not happy with the direction it took and am salty because it's unironically a fun game.
>>98083564I know kharadron are more advanced than the rest of the setting but I didn't know they were THAT advanced
>>98083288Every C7 book needs to be errata as a PDF. That's why they release the PDF months before it goes to print to use people who buy the books as beta readers
>>98083564Our blight wilds campaign fell apart when one guy made a 2 unit artillery piece that did 6 attacks d6+3 damage on a 2 to hit 2 to wound 2 rend, also it could teleport because tzeentch and he just kinda won every game.
>>98083564Right before I went off to a con week ago I had a game against my buddies KO he's trying out. I decided to try a turn 1 charge and didn't pull it off and learned just how fuckin mobile those little gunhaulers were. Didn't help I rolled like absolute shit the whole game but was neat learning just how good KO can be. NOW I'LL ADMIT, my monster mash list gets hard countered by a shit ton of guns so it was basically just, if I get to him first I win and if he gets a round of shooting in before that I'm fucked.(he had 2 gunhaulers each with an unreinforced unit of grundstoks and an ironclad)
>>98083644How much points did that cost him?I was under the impression that path to glory custom units were usually just worse and more expensive than regular units with the same general statsit seems fun though nevertheless, currently nogames due to relocation but I'd really like to try it out
>>98083688I couldn't tell ya desu, it was cheaper than it should have been considering it basically solo'd everyone's armys. If you had any big guys they were gone turn 1 and at like 1k points to start with it's basically like losing a leg in a foot race.
>>98083564Please enjoy Mannfred getting tarpitted by his own barrow guard and 2 endless spells. He didn’t get to do anything that game.
>>98083564I don't, I'm sorry. But I do paint models!
>>98083727It's what Mannfred deserves
>>98083727...wait a minute do the lumineth endless spells come with separate bases for those weird banana shaped runes? or is the "base" sculpted on ?
>>98083773It’s a sculpted base. Think like underworlds models. The lightning+ rune is one part and there’s little divots in the bottom of the cracked earth to sit them in the bases.
Why didn't Sigmar suck Archaon's dick to stop the Age of Chaos?
>>98083811Archeon is not interested in sex
>>98083811did you just assume archaon's gender?
>>98083811He did. But Archaon has 4 dicks.
Does anyone have that Mortuary Factory drawin/photobash meme? I tried to find it but to no avail.
>>98083811Why did chaos gods even wanted mortal realms ?They destroyed old world and celebrated it the same way one celebrates finding an old candy between sofa pillows.
>>98083727Those objectives markers are sticking out like a sore thumb.Especially considering both parties brought painted models
>>98083878it's an event's mandatory promo
Finished my banner carrier Blood Knight. Absolutely beautiful sculpts but man what a pain in the ass to paint.
>>98083896They're also too big. I think sigmar has had some unnecessary scale creep
>>98083178Will stormcast end up becoming nothing more than damaged good by 5th ed ?
>>98083925They're getting there already. I like this change, it makes stormcast interesting for once
>>98083907Scale creep has been a thing for a long while.Although I wonder if the reason behind it in recent times is to make it harder for models to be used in other games. (E.g. using s2d in ToW)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNAO7RVWmLE
>>98083878>>98083892Don’t think too much about it, they’re just what the store has. We actually had a nearly full house for once.
>>98083953Wonder if they'll take another crack at making new chambers or reworking old ones.
>>98083962Honestly it's nice seeing crappy terrain or other random objective markers, reminds me folks are going out to their FLGS and playing games.
>>98083907It *is* a bit jarring how much bigger they are than a Vampire Lord, but I think on their own they’re only a bit too big.
>>98083907In some cases yes, I'll say for what Blood knights can do it makes more sense. They're turbo elite murder cav so having a bit more unwieldy bases so it's not AS easy to just maneuver around and nuke people is nice.
>>98083668Thats what you get for playing your meta spam list
>>98084040I can't help that the list I'd run anyways is meta, I like big monsters god damnit.
How do we make AoS popular?
>>98084092but it's already the most popular fantasy wargame
>>98084102...after Warhammer Fantasy Battle: The Old World.
>>98084113keep dreaming, towdler
>>98084092I think it's fine where it is now, unfortunately the well has already been effectively poisoned in the public eye due to fantasy nerds losing their fucking mind when it came out and "killed" fantasy. You either get in for the models and find out you like the game or uh, like the game and get the models I guess that's feasibly about it there's not much room for secondaries here considering there's not really any popular book series, youtube channels, or like... anything.
They're making a Skaven-themed Darkest Dungeon AoS clone?
>>98084142isn't that a mod from like.... 5 years ago?
With the Cogfort's success, do you think AoS (or even forty-gay) might get more all-faction units in the future?
>>98084142I guess?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsKAic7di1M
>>98084158Someday we'll get our AoS tide.... Someday...
>>98084131To be fair the lore was fucking terrible and only recently became bearable
>>98084185has it?! I hear anons bitching all the time, but I've probably gotta engage with other factions books. Right now the story feels pretty nonexistent in that it's just "SKAVEN ARE HERE!"
>>98083962yeah, my lgs has their own branded objective markers they make you use too but this store just uses dallas open ones? lmao cheapos
>>98084165I always felt that an AoS Soulslike would be most befitting the setting.
>>98084195I said it's become bearable, not that it's good. There's plenty of stuff that's still fucking stupid
>>98084199I dunno, problem with having a souls like game in a setting like this is I feel like they'd want to have more dialogue and story etc etc. I feel like souls nails the vibes by having it just be a depressing miserable setting with barely anyone around and just wailing on faceless or giant enemies.I guess just set it in Shyish but even then... I've enjoyed tide games so far in that you get a nice spread of characters both good and evil and a nice ground level means of interacting with the world. It'd be neat having a tide game where you go all over the realms just fucking shit up of whatever faction they decide to make the bad guys and as much as I loathe fatshark as developers they make some cool shit.>>98084206Fair enough
>>98084092Vermintide: Hammerhal or something More Aelves Mordheim/Necromunda: release a few fully fleshed out kits with legitimate options instead of the fomo rotation preset kill team slop
>>98084198Might not have to use them at all in the future if AoS takes “terrain as objectives” from 40K for 5e. But yeah, this store runs both 40K and AoS. Also Warmachine. At least we have a whole, like 30 foot wall of shelves with terrain.
>>98084222>MordheimThere was a rumor awhile back that was probably a load of shit that they'd be doing a Mordheim esque spinoff game but seemingly nothing has come from it since and it's been like ... 2 years?
>>98084222>Mordheim/Necromunda: release a few fully fleshed out kits with legitimate options instead of the fomo rotation preset kill team slopI know it's not the same kind of campaign based skirmish game but this is literally what Warcry is for. I have no interest in playing it though, people who like it seem absolutely miserable a Warcry player will crash out in our local scene discord at least once every 6 months
>>98083727Both schemes are pretty nice, seems like a fun game.
>>98084250No, Warcry is firmly in the preset Kill Team slop territory. Even at it's most open with wider AoS range support it's still just the existing kits and their limited build options, which have become worse over time like Ardboys. Necromunda and Mordheim are more open. Mordheim and Necromunda have fans to this day but Warcry is dead and they'll cancel Kill Team eventually too.
>>98084263It was a slugfest. My Eltharion had that mounted wight king dead to rights and OMEGA whiffed. Rolled 3 1’s for his big sword hits and then failed one of the remaining to wound rolls. But yeah, it was fun.
>>98084250Why the fuck would someone sperg out over warcry of all thing
>>98084158That looks more like a Side Scroller Metroidvania kind of gameConsidering the repetition of the trailer, I'm guessing it's also a rogue-lite as well
>>98084155RoRs are already GW testing all faction units
>>98083862>Why did chaos gods even wanted mortal realms ?It's not like they chose to exist somewhere.
>>98084250>people who like it seem absolutely miserable a Warcry player will crash out in our local scene discord at least once every 6 monthsI mean the first part seems accurate but mostly because GW has done them worse than Underworlds (I'll say it every chance I get, I AM AMAZED Underworlds was the one to survive)
>>98084329Oh god the chaos gods are about to fucking crush that city with their big heads.
>>98084301Idk I think the crash outs are rooted in no one else wanting to play Warcry no matter how annoying they are
>>98084357Trying to catch up with lore and check out new art.If anyone can help
>>98084360Get a job bitch
>>98084360I wonder if we’re safe enough to have a MEGA again. We should at least try one more time once someone with a majority collection can post one so that anons can import it and spread if the original gets taken down.
>>98084386I mean there is the guy who's been collecting them in these very threads. Could always ask whoever that anon is if they'd be down, we're slow enough it probably won't be nuked, but people fuck with us enough that it's likely to be nuked.
>>98084395If he’s generous enough to do it, it could create a little “hydra” of an archive. I’ve got a good bunch of stuff myself, but I’m still missing lots of lore recent things.
>>98084360I had it, but my PC got wiped last week...I guess some old links should still be up. Haven't bothered to check yet
>>98084386That'd be nice
>>98084372I'm not gonna cash in books for a game I don't play, I don't even collect models. I just checked out the art and keep up with the lore like every other 3 years when something grabs my attention enough. I used to be far more involved back in the day, but not anymore.I keep telling myself one day I'm gonna bite the bullet and do it, or that I'm just waiting for my perfect faction to drop, since they always manage to fuck the ones I like one way or the other. But in truth, there aren't enough oil fields in the world to justify the price tag for models anymore, and I'd not bother to paint or even bring them to the table to play. Plus, I live in a third-world shithole so the price tag is three times the amount, and there is literally NO ONE to play with anyway.I can fanfic /mydudes/ just fine this way.>>98084423>old linksI tried the ones I had, but they are gone. Last BT I downloaded was in October 2022.
>>98084360gofile.io/d/K6a8Drhere you go, DoK and Sylvaneth are still missing.>>98084395yeah, i am still around. i nearly got everything related to AoS, but its a pain to find obscure stuff like those magazines.
>>98084454Thanks dude. Here, have waifu.
The skaven trailer was cool. Looks like it’s set primarily on skaven though.
>>98084454Preciated man, I might grab a few myself since I've been meaning to nab a few of these.
>>98084479>Looks like it’s set primarily on skaven thoughIt's actually the forest moon of skven

Besides slaanesh, what other ranges have mirrors in them? I think DOK has one with the big chariot thing, but its a small little bit.
>>98084529And it mogs Warcry
>>98084550Honestly can't think of any. Mirrors aren't exactly common battlefield items
>>98084550Tzeentch could do something with the theme of mirrors, but I don’t think they actually have any sculpted ones.
>>98084566Nighthaunt could allso work, sicne haunted mirrors are a thing. Kinda awkward to have to move around. I guess it couldbe terrain?
>>98084589Oh good shout. The DoT terrain could also be painted as mirror-like.I also think the DoK blood cauldron kit has a big mirror type thing.
Bros, I just got the 4e stormcast book after a 18 month hiatus. What the fuck? Why does it all feel so soulless? Everything reads super concise "plain English" AI editing. All the heroic elements have been removed (unless they're women), and now the book focuses on them executing the knackered ones trying to be edgy... What did they do to my little gold men T_T
>>98084636Here's your (you)But also it was literally one of the first books, of course it's gonna be hot ass. I think cities is probably the 1st of the genuinely good army books we're getting this edition.
>>98084642in terms of lore so far I like lumineths, I would like sylvaneths too but its kinda carrying darkwaters baggage. Khadron and tzeentch both seem to have had some plot development too.
>>98084646I've got Soulblight and FEC and neither have done anything for me to make me happy, it's literally just "these guys are here, and they are dealing with rats"I think the most exciting bit of lore is Felgryn's little story blurb and finding out Radukhar is out and about.

>>98084660anon....
>>98084642Comeonnn anon, they've always been first books and they've never been this bad.Surely nobody over the age of 13 thinks this edgelord direction is for the better? The writing is appalling.
>>98084660Noblebright is gay
>>98084666I'm just so sick of women and edge bros we need to return to heroic golden boys
>>98084660>>98084678None of this shit is noblebright Just because it isn't 40k tier grimdark doesn't mean it's noblebright
>>98083276I've played it and had more fun than I expected. Archetypes are varied and fun to roleplay, characters are strong from the get-go so you don't have to wait for power fantasy (in our first encounter we massacred a horde of bandits without breaking a sweat), combat is interesting and engaging and I say it as someone who usually doesn't play combat-heavy games (you can actually tank, sneak attack is very powerful, talents do matter). I do recommend.
>>98084778>1st ed sigmar wasnt noblebright
>>98084731This but 9000% unironically. I will tolerate some girls in exchange for removing gay writing tropes where every heroic character has to be flawed or in the case of 4e dark souls eternals, going hollow (cringe)
>>98084832>dark souls eternals, going hollowthis has literally always been the case for stormcast
>>98084840Except it was a footnote surrounding the rumours of the potential costs of reforging. Now it's lazily inserted on the end of every single character profile with "but they're losing their mind".What they did to vandy in particular is just dirty
>>98084906Are you saying that...SIGMAR LIED?
>>98084799>literal post apocalyptic setting where 90% of the world is under the reign of chaos

What's the current state of AoS? I hear it dropped off pretty significantly cause 4th was a flop. There's like 5 regulars at my LGS compared to the dozens of 40k players.
>>98086043>There's like 5 regulars at my LGS compared to the dozens of 40k playersthats normal tho, 40k is literally THE wargame>I hear it dropped off pretty significantly cause 4th was a flop4th is just lame as fuck, later armybooks are fixing it imo, but still nowhere near 2nd edition, plenty of people are on a hiatus, or play Spearhead, also warcry sint really supported anymore so that audience is also dwindling
>>98086061>4th is just lame as fuckdidn't that happen with the last edition of 40k? I remember my friend kept repeating the phrase "simplified but not simple" or some shit. Seems like the same shit that happened here.
>>98086061People generally like spearhead compared to the full game? I played like one game and thought it was pretty neat. That's nice to hear but that's also a pretty sad showing of 4ed
>>98086093Yes.Simplified not simple is a big meme in the community cause the game was significantly dumbed down to the point of everything being flavorless shlock while failing to keep everything simplified anyway.
>>98086106I'm hoping the cities tome is a sign of things changing because holy shit that stuff looks very flavorful and interesting compared to like... >>98086124How's OBR? That's the one I'm probably most interested in.
>>98086095>People generally like spearhead compared to the full game?Yeah, thats the consensus, personally not the biggest fun of it, but having a bunch of cards and no army building is just not my taste, objectively its well made and fun
>>98086138Relatively similar to how they were before but they have more units now, I've fought them once and the guy was using the AOR for Arkhan. (Which side note holy fuck I got screwed the one time I actually bring my foot ghouls and morbhegs since OBR have anti ward and the archers have rend so they basically shredded my naked little retards.) But from what I saw the assassins seem pretty bulky, chariots seem good, Katakros is no longer necessary in that they made him more expensive and slightly worse so you can feel less guilty not bringing him. Otherwise they function relatively the same in that they're the Aura faction but now foot heroes provide more fun points to do stuff with. I'd give it like, a C+? >>98087029That assumes GW have the creative capacity and willpower to put in the effort.
>>98087023The worst part is that they will be half black. AoS duardin are not safe from ESG possessed demons.
>>98086852yeah. aos and old world are pretty much exact opposites.old world has very rich and in depth list builiding and especially character customization, but its gameplay is often nothing more than pushing a few bricks towards each other on a table with little to no terrain because the movemement system cant handle it, rolling a small handful of attacks, and then counting flag bonuses at each other until someone breaks. objective play is almost impossible because the armies movements are so staticon the flip side, aos has some of the worst, most shallow listbuilding of any warhammer game ever, and it has possibly THE worst character customization of any GW game ever made. but the gameplay is fast , reactive, and dynamic, movement is very complex and free form, objective play and terrain are integral to the game, and victory is often determined by clever use of screening and objectives to score points rather than rolling combat resolution and morale at each other hoping you have the bigger bonus.

>>98087165*or
>>98087165I personally prefer the normal marshal, unless you’re gonna convert it.
>>98087165thoese guys are good, but they dont exactly scream "guy in charge" like the normal marshal does, they look more like a witch hunter or alchemist unit
>>98087159>on the flip side, aos has some of the worst, most shallow listbuilding of any warhammer game ever, and it has possibly THE worst character customization of any GW game ever made. but the gameplay is fast , reactive, and dynamic, movement is very complex and free form, objective play and terrain are integral to the game, and victory is often determined by clever use of screening and objectives to score points rather than rolling combat resolution and morale at each other hoping you have the bigger bonus.AoS is if someone took MESBG and stripped out all the nuance and crunch. It's genuinely a really bad game, I still love the models and setting. But as a game it's pretty terrible. TOW is 100% a movement based game and " pushing bricks " is a reductive way of looking at it that suggests to me you haven't ever played it.

>>98087237>Fantasy has always been a Deployment gameWarhammer has had an issue with deployments in general, but yeah fantasy probably has that issue arguably even worse than 40k has had.

>>98087254I didn’t wanna say it because I ultimately just can’t care for a rank and flank at tows current (and soon to be increasing scale) state because the game just can’t translate well without certain requirements that becomes obnoxious to adhere to.

I wonder if 4th is the edition where slaanesh can move beyond bow spam. I hope the cities writer is in charge of it.
>>98087271No, ToHitToWoundSave sequence is not gameplay, neither is rolling artillery dice or placing templates, paying 8pts for a single state trooper in a game where miniatures dont even matter isnt either. Most units simply dont have movement high enough for the wheeling fuckery to actually work and put you in a situation where you can make a decision, for most of them your choices are stand in place and shoot if you can, try to move forward to melee to do something, or attempt to maneuver and end up not doing anything because you didnt make it to the moshpit in the middle of the board before the end of the game. For the sake of discussion i will throw a stone at AoS, by saying that army sizes are way too high for the table sizes, and the amount of terrain used usually is ridicolously low, so most of your movement is restricted by enemy threat ranges and universal 3" engagement range (I still dont understand who were those people who found it hard to check which miniatures are actually in combat) which is also often lame
>>98087278>someone asking if they reallyThis tranny got ack'd by candleja
>>98087317I knew you didn't play the game. It's always the same thing. A simple pack of cheap undead wolves can move 27-28 inches turn 1 in three moves with a free turn up to 90° between the second and third move. That's just one example among many many others of agile movement that the game allows. No I will not explain the basic rules of the game to you.
>bro is this angry over his rectangle gamemarge, why does this offxitter shit up our threads and get away with it? marge, shouldnt the jannies be ack'ing him?marge is it because the jannies are all jartycuck grogs that defend unc WHFB instead of doing they jobs? mi is gay if that matters. anyways guys, what's the current meta for gloomspite? looking to start them but im way less interested if it's the stupid wolves right now
>>98087237>Fantasy has always been a Deployment gamelol yeah because units can barely move after deployment. once you deploy you're fucking locked in on train tracks
>>98087240>>98087146literally THE main dwarf character in aos is black. this might be controversial in the land of grognardia but aos has long since move past skin color barriers for dwarfs
>>98087341That's because they're a skirmish unit which almost nothing else is.I agree with the initial anon that argued AoS and WFB both have different strengths and weaknesses to each other.IMO rank and flank looks better, but is not as enjoyable to play
>>98087353Troggs and anything that isn’t a hero or a monster on a squig is still your go to. You don’t have to be dependent on them, but you can take a small bit of the sun gits to capitalize from your army rule. Though it’s possible to still just ignore that range entirely, but it’s rough all around for them now.
>>98087374>IMO rank and flank looks better, but is not as enjoyable to playThats because Fantasy is just on a wrong scale for it, it wants to be a big battle game, and a build a bear for characters, and keep individually based 28mm models, theres simply no reason for all of those things at the same time, i will keep shilling Warmaster, because its literally Fantasy if Rick Priestly knew what he was doing from the start
>>98087315they need to make the cav and armored dudes more enticing. twinsouls/painbringers are $60/5 chosen equivalents, they really should have chosen levels of health and damage. the army keeps trying to treat them like regular chaos warriors, but they arent priced that way or boxed that way. and the new seekers could use a bit more oomph and probably a seeker hero to buff them, like one of those lord of x heroes, but on a mount (bring back the tit snake)
>>98087374>making turns>undead wolves>skirmishersBased retard.
>>98087374>IMO rank and flank looks betterI think it can look better but more often than not it looks kinda ass. I wish I had the energy to detail it, but most people don’t play to rank and flanks strengths and when you don’t it just looks amazingly bad. There’s also much more room to make it look awful than not.
>>98087353TOW is the furry game and as we learned from the sharty hack jannies have a vested interest in defending furries.
>>98087396Idk about furries, but all the trannies who attend the club i play in almost exclusively play TOW
>>98087353> what's the current meta for gloomspite?basically just avoid spiders and everything else is fair game. squigs are your fast glass cannons that have insane damage at good speed but evaporate when touched. moonclan are your cheap wizards and grot hordes are for tarpitting and holding objectives, troggs are some durable but slow muscle to win the midboard scrum, and wolves are your fast skirmishy pinning units that dont have much damage but they can be anywhere on the board in a hurry, and have hit and run. plus an artillery piece. kragnos and hurtlin hogs are also frequent ally picks, and if you want to run mono troggs kragnos is pretty much mandatory.best gloomspite lists tend to be a la carte lists that pick and choose a blend of different elements. all in on one thing can work but the weaknesses will be more exaggerated and vulnerable to hard counters.

>>98085447As far as I know AoS doesn't have crazy concepts or elaborate ideas that you absolutely need to learn by heart in order to enjoy the game. Once you dust off the GW approved lingo, most people will recognize familiar fantasy concepts without a problem. What you need to know is basically a general layout of Mortal Realms (not even their fancy names, just"oh, this is a fire plane, oh this is a shadow plane etc.) and how they work (like realmgates); deities are very important in AoS and many archetypes are tied to them so you should know what's their deal (like a witch aelf should know about Khaine): as for current events I've only seen one instance of it being referenced and it was Morathi's betrayal with a brief note on how it affects situation in a one specific city.Geography is not that important since realms are so vast and large swaths of ancient history are deliberately left vague so you can come up with your own states, organizations and cults if you wish. Also I do recommend you to check out starting scenario. It's actually very decent and has a little bit of everything: skirmish, dungeon crawl, boss fight, NPC interaction... There are actually two introductory adventures "Crash and Burn" and "Faltering Light" but you can combine them as we did.
>>98087449Skaven and lizardmen came from TOW with minimal changes...
I have a questionsin preperation for my first game of AoS this Sunday.I've never controlled a unit of more than 10 models. I am bringing a brick of 20 plaguebearers and they're all on 32mm bases. I know to be in combat, you must be within 3 inches of an enemy unit, then you can make a pile in move of up to 3 inches in any direction but must end the pile-in close to that enemy unit. Does every model in my unit need to be within 3 inches of an enemy model to fight it? If one of my models is 4 inches away from the unit he's in combat with, can I attack with that model or do I only make attacks for the models that are within 3 inches of something? >>98083052is this a kitbash? the axe looks like a WHFB piece and the rest looks like MESBG>>98086581>>98084092I think they're banking on spearhead to be the foot-in-the-door for big AoS.GW wants you to get invested in as many armies as possible. They don't like the guys that only collect and play Elves even if he owns like 4k points of models. GW wants the guy that has multiple spearheads because each new product has the chance to pull them in.
>>98087592Only the models within 3" get to attack, the very reason they made it 3" instead of 1 for handweapons 2 for spears and 3 for fancy elven spears, was because people found it annoying to fiddle around with positioning of the models
>>98087592>is this a kitbash? the axe looks like a WHFB piece and the rest looks like MESBGLooks like a kitbash of the latest Wahaquest game with a generic dwarven head
>>98087607it solved multiple problems, the fiddlyness of models was one, it also greatly mitigated the "base size as an offensive stat" problem that plagued models, especially infantry, in earlier editions, where models on 25s could fit extra ranks in combat while infantry on 32s or 40s, infamously units like namarti thralls or stormcast infantry like liberators, would struggle to actually get any models in their short range, basically only base to base models could fight. it also was a meta-acknowledgement of the 3" combat widget that was popularized by the tournament crowd for quick measurements and became mainstream over the last 10 years, and they actually hard coded the game around that widget most people own, which was a really smart move in my opinion
>>98087592I have another question.Does Guarded Hero apply to all heroes that meet the criteria or does it only apply to heroes that have it as a keyword or passive ability? I have never seen it on a warscroll but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a thing.>>98087607thank you
>>98087159I do wish AoS had the level of unit/character customization ToW has.List building would take hours since even 5-10 remaining points could be spent on some single use item, but list building was more fun in 3rd ed than the game itself
>>98087687all heroes that are not monsters or warmachines. also keep in mind that half of the guarded hero rule only applies if they are infantry, so like cavalry commanders will get the hit penalty bonus, but wont get the ranged weapon protection
>>98086525>carnosaur/troglodon>stegadon>bastilodon>slann>kroak
>>98086892>NO ONE plays AoS for AoS-original characters. They play it for the Fantasy charactersAre you the same retard whos argued a couple months back that creating two official timelines after the end times would kill AoS?
>>98087703>>carnosaur/troglodon>>stegadon>>bastilodonall left behind by the size creep>kroakthat's a centerpiece but not a monster
>>98087692i think this causes a big breakdown between how AOS is percieved and discussed online vs how it actually plays. on the table, i've had very few complaints about aos or 4e, its fast, its fun, it has great back and forth brawls in the middle of the table, and the units are mostly exciting to use.but the online meta presence of wargames revolves entirely around list building and character customization, since you can easily talk about list preferences, unit choices, items, traits, etc on a forum, but its not really possible to actually play the game apart from like TTS i guess, so with aos being so limited in its customization and building rules, it really doesnt have much to give people to grab onto for online discussions, despite playing well in person. conversely, i think old world (and rank & flank in general) arent particularly exciting on the table and there isnt a great deal of gameplay variance, but when it comes to opportunities for discussion online, the customization built into their magic items, runes, unit wargear and army roster systems provide for endless topics from debating the most specific scrolls and potions and runes to larger discussions about setting up combos of characters and standards to stack bonuses, choices of types of armor and weapons, and so on. and so i think in that way, AoS is much more rich of an experience on the table, while ToW/WHFB is more rich an experience online and in your personal time fiddling with army builders. and 40k is somewhere in the middle. its detachment, strategem and enhancement systems offer somewhat more customization and list building choice than aos, and its gameplay is certainly more dynamic than old world, but i think the high lethality long range nature of the game which necessitates tables full of L shaped laser tag ruins with units unable to peek a head out of cover without getting insta gibbed makes it less interesting than age of sigmar where units can be a lot more brazen
>>98087612>>98087592
>>98087718>carnosaur>left behind by size creepi can assure you it is not.
>>98087731Eastern Empire blog btw
>>98087736looks good but at that point, going through that much trouble and that many kits, i think i'd just print highland minis or titanforge dwarfs or something instead
>>98087739i gotta PROONT
>>98087741you dont have to, but the parts list above involves like $400 worth of kits. if you dont already have the bits lying around, thats a shit ton of cash for a pretty basic looking dwarf
>>98087700so all non monster or warmachine heroes get the -1 to be hit, and if they're also infantry they can't be shot by anything further than 12 inches?>>98087741Me when I'm lifting the cover off my mars 4 ultra and take a nice deep breath of those resin fumes
>>98087750>>98087739yeah whoever uses all those pieces from so many kits must be doing it for some competition, diorama, or a special Roleplaying character or something. What sucks is all the mutilated plastic leftover that got cut up or sanded for a single piece.
>>98083052
>>98087765damn these are coolAm I being a Guy-who-has-only-ever-seen-boss-baby by saying these look hand sculpted? They dont' look as clean or neatly proportioned as digital stuff.
>>98087764it's a Warhammer Quest homebrew character
>>98087739Highland makes some pretty good Sunland stuff. I see a lot of beg posts for their models
>>98087771the old avatars of war stuff is handsculpted, for better or worse. some of their casting quality is kinda ass though, i got their hammerer equivalent a while back and it had pretty egregious mould slips.the one exception is the dwarf seekers, their slayers equivalent, which for some reason they did a multi part injection mould sprue kit like GW instead of individual cast resin pieces like the rest of their kits. the seekers kit is legit fantastic
>>98087771it's a relatively old product
>>98087726One major complaint I heard from AoS players, especially new ones, is how there's little learning material and how fast that material becomes irrelevant. And, unlike 40k, there's little demand for it so content creators just don't bother. So in the end your only option becomes smashing your list against any opponents you can find in your local area until you get it right. In best case scenario, the opponent provides you with advice and, in the worst, just bags the W then leaves
>>98087718They're really not, they hold up fine sizewise
>>98087827the stega is maybe a bit small, but i think that dino sculpt is a bit ugly so im a big proponent of just converting a to scale dino figurine instead
>>98087790>>98087765How they managed to make these without triggering GW lawyers is beyond me
>>98087836>>98087827forgot my pic
>>98087837some of the people who work at avatars of war are ex-gw sculptors, I believe they have some informal leeway with thoseand also avatars of war doesn't really make proxies for stuff that's excessively branded or specific a troll is a troll
>>98087837i think that old basic stuff like trolls and orcs is jsut impossible to copyright enforce, a big part of why we got age of sigmar aelfs on fish and duardin in ships, although those faces on the trolls are preeeettty close to the GW expressions
>>98087836My pipedream is to scratchbuild one myself to look like some (pseudo-mesoamerican) statue come to life
>>98087846>although those faces on the trolls are preeeettty close to the GW expressionsYeah, the poses and the paint scheme is too close to what GW sells
>>98087870GWs trolls are okay, i've got a box of the newer rockguts and a dankhold and the krule one whos name i forgot, they're fun kits, but i used to have a whole army of trollbloods for warmachine (still have them in storage but havent played in 10+ years) and those were my favorite troll models. especially the old metal ones before the plastic revamps which had lamer poses. the launch metal ones from like '06 or '08 were really good. i loved their whole factions mix of like mutant gorilla trolls, celtic sorcerers and scottish kilt wearing infantry. really fun army. some of the newer stuff from the new warmachine revamp looks decent, but i'll be damned if im gonna shell out $50 a model for a print.
>>98087837Why would it? GW don't own the copyright to generic monsters and they get their ass served in court every time they attempt to sue hoping otherwise
>>98087916I think you could argue with some merit that avatar of war skirts very close to gw's pretty specific *interpretation* of that classic fantasy monster, but I don't know how far you would get with that.
https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/gmuscolv/warhammer-art-through-the-years-orruk-warclans/>a whopping four (4) bonesplitterz visible in this week's art dumpBros we're so fucking back...In all seriousness I've said it before but these would be 10 times better if they included whfb art. The whole point of these is to see how the faction's aesthetic and designs evolved over time, and for all but like 3 factions nothing changed. Wouldn't it be cool if they had some 80's oldhammer orcs in there to compare with kruleboyz so you could see the inspiration for example?
>>98088093I wonder who pitched the "disorganized picture dump" article cycle
>>98088093yeah they need to show off that DNA more. it was actually a really faithful reinterpretation
>>98088151
>>98088125They had to find SOMETHING for the interns to do>>98088151Right? There's a surprising amount of homages to really old stuff in newer models. The kruleboyz are a very obvious example, it'd have been nice to see some of it.
>>98087513Dope. I picked up the starter set and the core rulebook since theyre on sale. I think my players will really enjoy this system. I appreciate the response!
>>98087592Warning for ya, anything within 3 inches of anything is going to be in combat so try not to get your guys locked in. I made a fuck up in a game a year ago trying my NH against old Morathi, she ran into a blob of them and basically got them all trapped in combat lest I retreat (and retreating means you can't do shit with them until the next turn)
>>98088151>>98088157kunnin bait ded sneaky like viscous
>>98088235NTA. But I’ve started thinking of combat range as “effectively 5.99999 inches” because pile in move + 3” attack range means that any model under 6 inches away will fight unless the move is impeded by terrain. I like the simplicity of 3” combat but it’s made flanking and tactical charge positioning nearly useless.
>>98086686>If they soup KO, FS and Dispossessed together, it will be the most uniquely hideous faction ever, aesthetically speakingWhy does everyone think KO will be included in the new dwarf soup? They already had their tome. It'll be fyreslayers + "Dispossessed"
>>98088267It's neat, though as someone who plays lots of monsters, maneuvering shit around the perpetual 3 inch circles around every unit makes me want to blow my brains out.
>>98085817Because they released an army that should have slotted right into ToW in AoS instead. Why else would they have gone back to Chaos Dwarfs after all these years spent ignoring them if not for the overwhelming success of the 'Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs' DLC for Total Warhammer 3? Warhammer Total War player didn't want the AoS setting and AoS players didn't want the faction.
>>98088585stop samefagging your stale bait 16 hours later you fucking ape
>>98088592That's not the real me, that's an imposter.
>>98088595go slapchop some deathguard, nigger
>>98088585The chorf dlc released in 2023, while helsmiths released in 2025. We know factions usually take 3-4 years to go from concept art to product in a store.Somewhat related, but I hope they do another designer talk about the new CoS stuff like they did for chorfs. That kind of stuff is always interesting to read.
>>98088585>TWW secondaries>ever buying modelsI love this meme
>>98088659I'm a secondary that got into AoS after TWW games. Can't say I love the game that much, especially the current edition, but the mini painting aspect of it is nice.
>>98088595Floppie you've been edging us for weeks please tell me what army you playDoesn't even have to be aos
>>98088719Aren't the TWW Stonehorns orange and brown?
>>98088719I'm a secondary, I got into AoS after being into Blood bowl for ages.
>>98088719NTA but TWW got me back in the hobby after a ~10 year break. Well, the mini painting aspect at least since I don't play.
>>98088755It was funny since TWW unironically did push people in AOS because back when it first launched TOW didn't exist so if it was like "BUY KARL FRANZ AND EMPIRE SOLDIERS" and it just slaps you into the cities of sigmar range.
>>98088738They are, but I wanted mine to have different fur colour
>>98088762Those secondaries were either in for a treat when ToW got announced or disappointment when old CoS range got shafted out of AoS
>>98088773I hope the refresh serves you well bcrbro
>>98088762I didn't really care about any WFB faction specifically though I do have some Tomb Kings now, the game just made me remember that painting these plastic dudes is really fun.
>>98088783Thats fair. I ended up picking up the Brettonian starter box just to paint some Bretts, since those and TKs were the two WHFB ranges I'd never been able to sample as someone who got into AoS around 2018. It's kinda crazy how much better the peasants hold up than the knights, though the Pegasus Riders are Okay-ish.
>>98088773how many armys you got anon? I see a wide range of models floatin around that desk
>>98088762>BUY KARL FRANZTWWats didn't even know Karl had a model
>>98088860Eh I can't blame 'em too much, I got flash banged back in the day since I was one of the people who was convinced AOS killed Fantasy or some shit since I had only ever heard grogs bitch about it nonstop and didn't care enough to look into it. And coming in third party and trying to discern what's what in kits when it's like "I want Karl Franz, what the fuck is a freeguild marshall on Griffon"Eventually I remember I was hanging out at my local game shop with my friend while he was picking up his comics and we were discussing how stupid of a name "ogors" is, then had the shop owner come over and basically give us a full rundown on the lore and setting of AOS. (Which I'll be honest, did help me consider checking it out more which I guess duh, I'm here now)
>>98088817More than I'd like to admit. At least 4-5 armies worth of what I scrounged at second hand for less than best LGS prices
>>98088872The good old days when every GA had 50 'factions' on the webstore, some of which containing like 2 models
>>98088899Eh same, I've wound up getting lots of 2nd hand stuff from local deals and might have to liquidate some of it just because as much as I like having stuff I'd rather narrow it down to the factions I know I'm gonna play AND I enjoy painting.I wish I could just sell stuff cheap to anons gonna be real.
