>>98084209>What is the state of your local wargaming community?Non existent. Next town over has a new game store that I haven't visited yet.
>>98084209I am the local wargaming community. :opulation here is about 200 though.
>>98084209>What is the state of your local wargaming community?40k and AoS all day everyday. Some times Kill Team and a bunch of TCG.Not even the cool 40k like 4th edition or even the tolerable 10th with people doing fluffy armies. Its waacfagging and tournament fags.
>Thread QuestionThere's an FLGS, and a wargaming club that runs out of the church. The former is a place I just stop by to make small purchases and small talk. The latter I have never been to, but might visit some time.Mostly I just run whatever I can get people for on my backroom table.Lotta skirmish games, I'm a miniatures guy.
>>98083209the knights really are great. I wonder how they'll hold up after equipment options get expanded. guess I'm gonna be greathelming next weekend.
>>98084393Is this like MESBG? Enemy models project a "control zone" that you can't move through, but if you engage that enemy, their control zone goes away and your free to advance?
>>98084412not familiar with MESBG, but Greathelm relies on bases touching for interaction so they guy can squeeze through if there's literally enough space to push him between the models.the only measuring required is for movement afaik.
>>98084393yeah, i haven't played with all the advanced rules, but i've been meaning to, especially with all the extra rules hes been rolling out. regret missing the kickstarter. ill be honest, one of my favorites is just how quick it goes, especially with people who've played. a quick round of greathelm while everyone shows up and gets ready has been my buddy and i's go to. any 6 models kind of work haha>>98084412no, not at all.
Anyone have any experience with OPR's campaign books? Debating buying one, but I worry its junk. >>98084209TQ: Its great, if you like games workshop. Regular Blood bowl league, kill team, and 40k tournies/casuals. past that, there isn't much scene. except for the marvel game, ironically that has a regular league as well. I've been trying to drum up some Grimdark future firefight or star quest, but without much luck. trying stargrave next i think
>>98084209All hobby stores/clubs around my area are all MtG with maybe some 40k but the community is small anyway. My home town an hour away had a robust warmachine scene running out of a local community centre thing, but most people (including myself) moved out and the wargaming club got kicked out of there anyway. I think whoever is left in that shithole is just playing MtG now too.CCGs see way more popular than miniature wargaming. There's a scene for some other games in a larger city 1h away which is sort of doable and they area actually still playing warmachine there but I don't know any of them. I've been thinking of getting back into it after a hiatus but couldn't be bothered for now
>>98084493they're fine depending on what you expect. also they're like 5-10 bucks, just get them for yourself you fucking povvo
>>98084472>no, not at all.For better or worse, in your experience?
>>98085242Better, for what Great helm is trying to be. Indie game that isnt overly conplicated. Light and quick. Hell, the deomnstrated board is literally just a sheet of paper. I like full wargames, or skirmishy ones, this just lands on the lightest side. Theres enough going on for some tactical depth, weapons for a little list building, and the initative system is great.
>>98084209>What is the state of your local wargaming community?Outside of 40k the biggest gaming store nearby has a sizable Battletech and Conquest community. I think there's some Age of Sigmar too but I've never seen it going on.Used to be we had a decent Malifaux group but everyone started playing other stuff and it drifted apart.
>>98084951i expect good quality engaging games. eh, less about being broke more about a strict budget for hobbies. a fiver here means one less stl or another used mini
>>98085933>i expect good quality engaging games. You aren't going to find that with OPR. It's the be-all system after all, there's nothing of substance to get your narrative hooks into. Perhaps look elsewhere and engage in some homebrewing?
>>98085971thats why i was asking haha. i know opr is generic, but you can still write a good story in the confines, even if its just a rip off of warhammer. passion projects swing weird. Although I guess its less just a passion project, especially with that box set they're trying to get into shops
>>98086010>especially with that box set they're trying to get into shopsI actually backed that, I enjoy OPR for its simplicity but I like the look of the shooty pew pew Dinos and the clankers
>>98086036have you got it yet? im curious about the quality of plasticsI should get around to buying some stls, i love the geckos with shields
I played a bit of Greathelm, it's fun, but like everything I get into I had way more fun with terrain than the game itself. Greathelm's tiny board just made that a smaller project than normal
Painting up some minis and I've got a question for the painters: What's a good way to make characters and non-grunt models stand out a bit more from the noise while still adhering to your army's color scheme?
>>98086648Fancier basing, more complex highlighting, an extra accent color.
>>98086648What other anon said, the guy with gold or silver accents stands out from the grunts who don't have that.
>>98086648Make them pinup models.
>>98086648Make them all blonde, like bright dandelion yellow blonde.
>>98086593Nice table.
>>98086902Thanks. As soon as I saw the "tiny table skirmish" concept I knew I wanted to do a barfight
>>98086593incredible set up How'd you find the game? good beer and pretzels? set up a campaign?
>>98086874Also blue eyed. And if someone asks if they are all related, refuse to elaborate and enjoy the meltdown.
>TQMost shops understandably sell mostly GW stuff, rent doesn't pay itself. But I've seen konflikt '47, trench crusade, frostgrave and reaper minis on shelves of gaming stores in the area. The discord server of the closest club in my area is mainly focused on GW stuff, but people also play conquest, warmaster, infinity, konflikt '47 among others.
>>98085455I can still post DFC here right? The build on these new battlecruisers wasn't great, I think the connection points weren't properly flat, but they look good, in a hideous utilitarian way the UCM should look.
bonus Hong Kong alt
And the Busan I made from the other sprue. For those wanting to get the kit, they only have one Elapsid Laser turret and two Arrowana's per sprue, so you'll have to factor that in when working out what you want to build with it. You can't just build two of whatever you want, as is usual with Dave's DFC stuff....wait I've got the pictures mixed up. This is the Hong Kong, since the connection points are set up in a way that a bit of bluetac can friction mount any front end you want which is nice.>>98087905THIS is the Busan.
>>98087903No I'm afraid it's forbidden. Sometimes I'll post battles, but I don't particularly like what they've done with 2nd edition and the their most recent releases leave a lot to be desired aesthetically, production wise, and price wise.
>>98086070Haven't got it yet but it should be with me within 2 weeks if the estimates are right. But the quality seems excellent, I've seen other anons who have already received their sets showing them off in other threads.
>>98087903No, the only thing allowed in /awg/ now is bitching about prices and how 3D printers cure cancer.
>>98089270I recall the bitching was about some store selling 3D printed models at GW prices.
>>98089532That and selling just the files at a GW physical price, both of these factored together are the entire reason that telegram is rife with STL piracy.I'm not even sure that there is any other reason for people to use telegram.
My Frostgrave sessions needed a bit of range, so I printed up some archers for the bestiary and for my warband.Notably I had a hard time finding the skeleton archers, I knew I saw tgem in the rules but not one book includes them on any encounter table which is weird. Finally found them in the core book after an hour going through everything by looking at the encounter tables instead of individual bestiary entries. No other creature is not on the encounter table in books that have them, though a few of the books only have bestiaries without tables.
>>98089532The bitching was about Warmachine. Its always about Warmachine.
>>98089270You can also bitch about the hair colour of some minis.
>>98090174Only if they are blonde.
>>98090302Anon will never be allowed to forget the day he started shit with the Swedish.
Am I mistaken or does this mean your Fate value can never be taken below one?
>>98090422Yes. It sounds like a model with Fate always has some kind of chance of passing the test.
>>98090528Okay, awesome, glad to know others interpret it that way.
Are there any official alternate schemes for Cygnar? I know Khador had their green border legion scheme but I don't remember any of the Cygnar ones if there are any
>>98090611I know the old Cygnar books had some, but I don't have any of them to confirm. Fort Falk uses a yellow and Grey scheme, though.
What even is War Machine? I know NOTHING about it.
>>98089546>I'm not even sure that there is any other reason for people to use telegramYou use it because WhatsApp is down or because your rulers are retards and its the somewhat the less insane option.
>>98090632Fort Fuck
>>98090634It was a contender against 40k a decade or 2 ago, but they fucked it up in 3rd edition, and has been trying to catch up since. The actual game is a fantasy setting that originally was a mix of medieval, Victorian, and WWI eras, but the latest is pushing more WWII diesel punk elements. The titular Warmachines are giant magic-powered robots, with giant monsters thrown in for the Hordes side. The game is centered around the wizards that control them and their retinue of soldiers and bots.
>>98090634Tony's bl*ck friend
>>98090632The wikis seem particularly bad for warmachine/hordes so I'm probably just going to hunt down a bunch of the old books
>>98090700>>98090729Is it fun? It's a bit pricey. Or at least it seems so, is it one of those games where you buy your faction once and never need to buy more for it, so they charge more? Not that price is a big deterrent I mean, I'm most interested on knowing if the game is actually fun.
>>98090700I want trencherpunk
>>98090883>trencherpunkwuzzat
>>98090762All the good wikis focused only on the rules. And are gone now, because the people running them threw a sissy fit. Also find scans of the RPG books, all editions of it has some good background stuff.>>98090844The game is fun, but can be a bit sweaty. 4th edition, less so, but its a lot of placement and piece trading. Of the newer armies, Gravedigger, Old Umbrey, Kithguard, and Fane of Nyrro are much more interesting than the older armies. That doesn't mean they are bad, just a little flatter. Most stuff, you only need 1 or 2 of them. There's a lot of named characters, and everything else has a limit on how many you can include, which the average is 2 total, exceptions being things like cheap core units and the robots/monsters. Armies aren't large; the Command sets are designed to be a contained 30 pts. and the average game runs 50-75 pts.
>>98090899Everyone is a trencherEverything is for trenchers
>>98085933https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtuknovSSVA&list=PLnnct8SS1onC7bRuDBr9nAx0qLAiOPJCRthis guy has been playing through their entire malhadra mission pack, and I've enjoyed watching the videos, it looks like it's cool and they're having fun. not sure if that's what you're after (it seems most anons on /awg/ aren't actually after having fun)
>>98086984It's got a surprising amount of tactical depth for "6v6 matchups with knights rolling D6s", the momentum mechanic means there's a resource in play and the various choices of weapons vs defenses make for interesting decisions mid game. Play is done in less than an hour most of the time, and the game is structured around multi-battle mini campaigns, usually of 2-3 games. It has a lot of cool scenarios too, like an attempt to mine a castle's walls getting counter-mined and fighting breaking out underground, or an ambush of a supply convoy in the forest. My favorite part was that since the WGA Knights box comes with 4 frames of 6 knights, if you buy it, that's four peoples' worth of minis, so i handed them out to my friends who were interested.
>>98091230And yes, we did take advantage of the Hazard rules for the fireplace.
What the hell is the difference between Renegadr Scout and Rogue Hammer? It seems like as if they are doing the same thing in different ways
>>98090649You actually use it because it's better than WhatsApp in every way. It had groups first, it had stickers first. It had animated stickers and GIFs first etc. It's desktop app was firstly and it is better. And of course, sending files through it is way easier and better.
>>98089621Joseph has a weird autistic hatred for skeleton archers specifically. I'm not entirely sure why. >>98091230>>98086593>get vaguely interested>download our app, we'll give you a license to download the demo version of the rules into the app!Nope, fuck 'em.
>>98091164less the quality of the supplement, but damn this is exactly what im looking for, narrative skirmish. love it. just the intro naming off the dwarves and their names
>>98092080i didnt even know there was an apphttps://malev-da-shinobi.itch.io/great-helm-pt>>98091230haven't tried the campaign yet, lvoe the winter board as well. Ive just been playing with assorted models, i think ill grab a box of the knights
>>98092118Ah, awesome. The first link on the page is to the obnoxious companion app and they're pushing it pretty hard on the rest of the page.>>98086648Basically, just add more detail. Glowing or inlaid swords. More intricate patterns on the shields and clothing. Striking hair color. Adding in gold/silver where other models have iron and wood. Nicer guns and accessories. Heraldry. That sort of thing. You can also do stuff like changing the proportion of certain colors (newbies mostly wear white with blue accents: senior fighters have blue clothing with white facings, while the leader is in pale blue with white embroidery)
>>98090611Mk3 books come with alternative paint schemes. You can find PDFs online in seconds.
Whats wrong with Mantic? They started the preorder for their new Forces of Nature. And its Beastmen with hoofes and horns, but for some completely retarded reason they decided to give them cat faces.. Is it really necessary to do something "unique" just to avoid being called a copy of GWs goatmen? Even if that unique choice results in something completely retarded? Also, classic mantic behaviour:>no pics of the plastic sprues on the webstore>horrible (!!!!!) paintjobs. I thought they got a bit better at product display, but the painted example minis are just so bad.
>>98092448>Is it really necessary to do something "unique" just to avoid being called a copy of GWs goatmen?Based retard. Even GW dips into catmen now. It is simply a new niche that market research of multiple companies marked as profitable now.
>>98092554>Even GW dips into catmen now.I wouldn't know, but i doubt their beastmen range would suddenly mix goats with cats. Having catpeople is one thing, but giving them horns and hoofs?
>>98092448maybe the studio painter has some really embarrassing kompromat about mantic leadership. I sure hope those kits were produced by archon studios.
>>98092554The age of the Basti is upon us.
>>98091738Hammer: squad based, off-shoot from the original Squad Hammer, a proof of concept game in how minimal and loosey-goosey you can go with a rule set, with rulings on the spot, amongst gentlemen. Over time, and with the off-shoots everything seems to have been nailed down and much more resembles a traditional game. Might have lost its identity with that, not sure. Haven't really engaged with it in depth.Still, minimal stat block and focus on fast play.Much of the 260something pages are army lists.Scout: Individual figure based. Built from Rogue Trader, supposedly switching out the old clunky systems for modernised ones. Can't say how successful, haven't dug into it either.
>>98092780Here's a screenshot from Hammer to illustrate the minimal stat block. There's traits to add character, but only two pages of them, so not egregious.
>>98092640>I sure hope those kits were produced by archon studios.Hopefully. But of course Mantic does not show the sprues, so nobody knows yet.>>98092735That is proper catmen (and girls). But what is pic related?
>>98092448>centaur lower, cat torso, bull hornsIt's like I'm really on FurAffinity
>>98092841What the fuckWho is the target audience for this kind of shit ?
>>98092850Furries? But also not really, because they are ugly as sin. And that paintjob is really not helping either.
>>98092841Really off-putting it's what they are.Are those fucking anime eyes?
>>98092448
>>98092856Someone at Mantic really needs to get their eyes checked if that is deemed okay to upload.
>>98092841The left most mini has his arm on wrong, the shoulder pad is level with his right shoulder.
>>98092882Here's hoping the heads are easy to swap for ones that aren't dogshit. though at that point why not just get another kit
>>98092895The face did a good job of distracting from that.
>>98092448"GW's goatmen" are a copy of Runequest's Broo.
>>98092882Literal clown faces.
>>98092991Its not a copy, they are literally just broo, they were originaly made under Runequest license
>>98090649I don't use whatsapp, but that's some nice projection.
>>98092448They want the furry audience. The sculpts are generally better than what mantic usually put out.Is archon behind these sculpts? How’s mantic’s resin quality? Also when are those dwarves gonna get replaced? You think anyone would enjoy them if they were archived as stls for free to entice newcomers like “classic models now in stl form?”
>>98089546The app is getting hit what’s the next spot to move to when things get really bad?
>>98092991>>98092994Broo are better.
>>98093396>They want the furry audienceThe Chinese dog men kinda implied that too.
>>98093483That too.But I think a lot of it is trying to keep away from the “line” gw wants mantic to cross to sue them like when chapter house crossed it by a mile.
>>98093483>>98093396>furry audienceTrue, i guess. I do not even blame them for that, if there is money to be made. However, the chinese dog men are how one would expect chinese dog men to look like. No random horns, no hoofs.. just upright dogs with fantasy weapons and armor. Not everyones taste, but nothing unusual there. These >>98092882 however? Why not make them cute catgirls, instead of whatever they are supposed to represent. Also just compare the paintjobs of the dogs with the paintjob of the "cats".
With them coming out on Friday, has anyone managed to find out a price From their LGS or dealers? Would love to know how much to expect.
>>98094158The skeleton army is what, $85? Probably around that mark.
>>98094175Yeah I presumed as much but was fishing for corroborating thoughts/data. Hope they don't jack it up by ~$10 due to its popularity/perceived sticker-value like they have with some of the other kits (Trench Warfare, Marcher). It's not the end of the world if they do but I'd be happier if they didn't.
