If I had to venture a guess with dwarves they're in a strange space as a predominately red creature type who care about artifacts more than say goblins or ogres but are not the common choice for berserker or warrior portrayal over a human ether since they aren't in every setting. Kaladesh being an artifact block let dwarves do what dwarves are best at and made them give a shit about making and building trinkets, contraptions, and constructs. Artifact stuff they want to do. But I agree they're mostly lame in mtg otherwise. The rest of the time they're being steered into common/uncommon warriors that just hit bullshit with an axe, Eldraine and Kaldheim dwarves are this and they're sleep inducing and forgettable bulk.
