>TQHighlander TCG.Those were good times.
>>98131348>Highlander "community" But there can only be one
>>98131167Weiss Schwarz. The smaller the amount of players the more community-like it feels. But you run the risk of your weeklies dying out. Happened to me for WS.Still feels like an actual community compared to p*kemon
>>98131167>>Thread QuestionThat would be the time I started playing Flesh and Blood during covid. I traveled 3 hours out of my way to go to a place that does /tg/ in a chill setting with a full pub; it was there that I meet the store worker who greeted me with a gift of a couple pack fresh pulled savage claws and a Kayo Runt of the Litter hero card. We had exchanged emails back and forth before I made the trip; he knew I liked Brutes so he surprised me with some really helpful intro singles to get started with the game. The reason I messaged him was because he actually had a box of Crucible of War for sale, the only one in my state. So I hopped in the car and drove all the way out there for a paltry 300 dollar box, but then I stayed for their armory event. As I waited I saw the locals passing around a communal binder, one that belonged to a rich man, with basically multiple playsets of everything released for the game in one collection. Casual swapping in and out Hearts and Eyes was going on, I was stunned. For Blitz I actually brought ranger with me and added 2 full art sick'em'shots to my deck right after the event. Sitting there, eating my massive pretzel and drinking a local brew that tasted like bubble gum, I realized maybe instead of just collecting and doing a few events here and there, that I could start a game group of my own, build something to last. Then I drove myself home where I self-isolated for a week, deathly afraid that I brought the coof back to everyone under my roof. The guilt was immense, but I liked the thrill of going out and finding like-minded folks to jam games with. About a month later I had found a closer gamestore and built the flesh and blood club out, one member at a time. We stuck together for years, it was for sure my favorite moments card gaming, and it was because of that ground plus the experience of engaging with the community at large.
>>98131423Oh sure, in THE END. Until then, it's all fun and games.
>>98130720the singleton justice feels a bit odd. it also kinda ruins the Zeon theme to the deck.
>>98131983Yeah, it's a weird list and I remember my jaw dropping a little bit when I first saw the YouTube video when he showed that he plays 12 pilots in the deck and then I saw the large number of 1xs and I had to wonder what the fuck is going on in that guy's local meta. I play one copy of a card in a couple decks, I play 1 Big Zam in my Zeon deck, but 5 1x? Gundam players all share the same one brain cell so that list just started populating MSA like an hour after the deck profile went live and I guess we're beyond questioning it now.
Vancouver has been a pretty entertaining event so far. Glad not showing too many Aurora decks since those matches are always a snoozefest.
>>98131167>TQDragonball super card game. Was the 2nd game after Yugioh and it had the best elements added in. Haven't played a tcg in a while where you can play mind games or execute timings on playing counter plays. I don't go locals because I don't have the time after work. Which is why I think these companies should advocate having an online form to play.
>>98131893Thanks GPT-kun, very cool.
>>98132830Tabletop simulator lets you play literally anything, but what if I told you that people who play card games aren't total friendless losers?
>>98132840>Dragonball and YugiohYou're black, right?
What are good ways to sell a collection of Grand Archive and Riftbound that don't involve signing up to some sort of social media?Preferably Australia relevant if anyone knows specifics.
>>98133189>australia>but without social media>niche gameslollmao evenGood luck, cunt, our market is tiny. Goodgames is the biggest corpo store that sells singles, but they don't carry either of those games as far as I know. Also, they only pay a fraction of market price. The next most mainstream option is to open an Ebay account and get raped by fees.Could also try Fluke and Box if you're okay dealing with a redditor supreme and known fabgot.
>>98133215I live in hope that someone from Sydney will come drive an hour to clear my cupboard space, it's not even about making the value back at this point.
>>98133265You could just send them to me.
>>98132858That's old canon around these parts, Summer Tourist. Regardless of your jest, we wanted to make TQ a point of discussion.
any suggestions on updating/improving this? i've already swapped out 2 corsica for 2 zanzibar.
You could just come get them. Postage costs money and worst of all time.Legitimately though, if anyone wants them leave a way to contact you in a reply to my post. Got no social media though

How many cards should an ideal first set have?
>>98134145200+
>>98134145That depends on how often the sets release and how seriously the booster gameplay is supposed to be taken. The optimal for a game that releases 2-3 sets per year and has decent booster gameplay is around 150 cards. Also, if there are severe color restrictions for the booster gameplay format too and there are 6+ colors in the set, then more might be required.
>>98134145This is going to be a hot take but 333 is a nice start, anything south of that and you're asking for build stagnation and horrible opening experiences.Look at Sorcery's Gothic, which has 440 cards in its set. Box openings rarely yield duplicates at higher rarities, every unique showing up is exciting and there's enough commons and uncommons that even sealed feels dynamic. Erik said that it was harder to go higher than that though, so 450 is your ceiling.
>>98131167>TQHolo is the first game I've played physically and actually gone to events for. Previously, I just played digital games live SV and PTCG online. Feels cool buying and trading with people in my scene. Related to that, say hello to EN's new best energy ramp.
>>98134145500~
>>98134261ore no ina
anyone who played dofus 1.29? I want someone to talk to about a dofus tcg idea I had and wanted some opinion on it
>>98134145firmly in the "depends on so many variables as to be a pointless argument starter" category. when we've had this out before, anons will cherrypick examples of good games with 60 cards in their first set and shitty games with 300+. the best approach as a designer is prob to just start with the minimal fucking number of cards and grow it as needed. you're gonna be playing 10,000,000,000 playtest games in your first set so some of that will happen organically.the biggest things that drive the how many card question are:>how many cards in a deck and how many copies of a card can you take>can all cards play together or are they cut up into factions/classes>how much chaff or functional overlap do you plan to put in?>what's the pack size / box size / rarity distribution>are you supporting limited or draft
>>98132197>Glad not showing too many Aurora decks since those matches are always a snoozefestFor (You).
>>98134276Ironically, she's great for plenty of rampless EN members but not Ina because optimal Ina play means you're not using Energy for anything other than switching.
Consider the following: Most games are designing pack chaff to put a buffer, a serious one at that, between your best pulls. If every box is all good pulls, you're buying one or two boxes. But if you get .5 of a good pull every box, NOW we're talking massive scale of purchases that will drive up profitability. So if you want to make money hand over fist, inundate your set list with stupid pieces of shit no one wants and sprinkle in some good stuff at the top.
>>98134448yeah this is an important consideration.it's also why LCG and TCG sets look so different. if you're making an LCG all you care about is the minimum cards you need to be playable and make deck building have an interesting meta. which is actually a pretty small number for most games, often <100 cards. if you're making a TCG, you're driven by pack distribution and trying to maximize the secondary market effect. you still start with that "minimum number of cards needed for the game to be good", but then you pad it way out with functional reprints, multiple versions of base cards, alternate versions that are weaker at lower rarity (draft chaff), and if you have factions or classes or colors you can reprint the same card in a few different ones.you have to be a little careful if you're main audience is more vets because too much of that will drive them away and make it feel anti-player. but if you've got a casual friendly IP or captive audience then you can push it as far as you want. at the extreme end you have successful games like FAB that might only have a handful of playables in an entire box.
250 cards is a good start
>>98134162>>98134168>>98134173>>98134269>>98134355>>98134448>>98134546>>98134558Thank you all very much. A lot of good things to consider here. I wish I would have done more booster gameplay when I was more active as I feel that is a very large element that I'm not fully considering
>>98131167Netrunner wore it best
>>98131167>Thread Question>What was the first game you played that made you feel like you were really a part of a community and not just trading cards?Buddyfight. But only for like a month or two because the same group also played Vanguard and it became me showing up to hang out for 4 hours and in that time getting to play 1 BF game and then just sitting around and chatting and watching other people play Vanguard because I didn't really like Vanguard and refused to spend money on it more than 2 structure decks. After a few more months I wouldn't even get in my one Buddyfight match in so I stopped showing up.>If you don't play locals, why?My locals are only ever MtG, Pokemon and whatever flavor of the month game that the LFGS owner is in love with that week. Most of the stores don't even sell the less popular games. My favorite store will order you a box or two if you ask but at that point its the same price and more convenient just to order it myself online.Because of lack of local community and because I am available at weird hours I've been looking for digital card games to play. Are there any decent ones that aren't Hearthstone, GWENT or Pokemon? I used to be a big fan of Spellweaver when that was still getting content. I am waiting for Digimon Alysion but the dev updates amounting to "We're working on it still we promise" for like 2 years now is grinding away at my interest. When it eventually comes out I hope it comes to PC at launch.
What content creator makes the best TCG guides for your TCG of choice?
I bought the Vex starter deck because uohh yordles sexo, and then I pulled a Vex Apathetic out of my free pack. Time to go all in on being a degenerate.
>>98128671Yeah, it was released 1-2 months ago, distribution got better but is not great. (They are using Team Covenant as a distributor for organized play things).Lizardman are like tier 2 right now. The meta is mostly Fighters but the Lizards can do good.
Gonna ask a similar question What's a good number of cards for a card battler lcg with a focus on limited play? Trinity draft has 240 unique designs for each version iirc, so if you combine both you get 480. What do you think?
I went to a convention every weekend for the last three weekends. I am tired. I have a couple hundred new cat cards, more cat dice, cat dice bags, and a fucking museum's-worth of catstuff from plushies to keychains and everything in between.I'll just post this one picture, though. Love you all.
>>98136017Sell me on your game anon
>>98136068It's nechronica if it was a card game
>>98136101Is it a game where your characters are in their own deck and their parts are in the main deck? That's the vibe I'm getting
>>98136132The idea is that the cards in the discard pile are the resource for playing your zombies. So after a zombie is destroyed, it can be reused as parts
>>98136043Ha, rest well, cat guy.
What's a good product to try out SWU with? A couple buddies of mine bought the spotlight deck pair. Is there a comparable standalone product I could use to play against them?
>>98136149Neat
>>98136101Also a streetwear subthemeI'll resume works on it at the end of July, I'll start posting cards then
This looks nice

First card for set 5, Radiance revealed
>>98136837Diana making it this far every time is surprising to me, people were saying she'd be complete shit prior to her release.
>>98136518It's ai isn't it
>>98137528I feel like anyone who knows the game thought she was going to be good. The real surprise tonight is Rengar making it to the finals, I feel like everyone wrote him, and red as a whole, off.
>>98136399nice drawing, I wish I had skill like this
>>98138223Speaking of artI was planning on making all the art by myself, release the game for free on itch, then if it somehow gets a following run a Kickstarter campaign to hire artists I like to do alt arts. Out of curiosity, which artists (that I could realistically hire) would you like to see? I've been thinking of getting hirotonfa and magnagallina to do a card each, they occasionally show up on tg so there's a nonzero chance they'll see this post
>>98138553If I were to make a card game, I'd hire japanese artists only because I like anime style drawing
