>What is Exalted?
An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here:http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

>That sounds cool, how can I get into it?
Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

Much better thread question: You're a young Alchemical commissioned and awakened just a few days ago. Today's the day you're supposed to report to your superior, a veteran Alchemical with a long and decorated service record, to begin your duty as a Champion of the Eight Nations.

Your mentor is pic related.

What does your first day on the job look like?

Follow-up question: How do you picture your relationship with your mentor going forward?

>>
>>98198396
Because they went quantify over quality, and early exigents were made to be played by a single character period, not just "a single per table" but a single already made PC.
Because of this, the city example in ExVsWoD felt better, since it was made more broad instead of "Janesthood, the charmset".
>>
>>98198404 #
What I have so far is just unreasonably generic, and I'm not sure how to make them actually worth reading.
The concept is that they are the result of a god of metallurgy stealing some of Auto's notes before forging his own children into arsenal-themed Exaltations so he can accumulate more power and make his own Creation.
The spear, the sling, the sword, and the shield are all casts of one tasked with getting some exotic materials to make the second set of tools they need to make their "boat" Wyld worthy.

>>98198471
I see where they are coming from, like I said, I'm just being annoying in a practical level.

>I see where they are coming from, like I said, I'm just being annoying in a practical level
Exigents is just a flawed concept, introduced in a even more flawed way.
It feels like the devs forgot what the titular exalted were meant to be and just went insane.
>>
>>98198546
I have said this before and will probably say it again, they needed some more connective tissue so they could work as Exalts. Let the cycle of usurpation continue and these guys are the new guys to kill.
Eh whatever it doesn't really matter.
>>
So anyways terrible homebrew time.

Whereas the Infernal becomes something new in order to transcend the Abyssal instead doubles down on their true nature. They do the impossible, redefining death and using this new metamortis weapon to murder their inverted exaltation. This act is not so different then the one that created the Abyssal to begin with yet it is far more personal and permanent.

These are the Reborn, things that once lived that have died and yet still live again. They are as impossible as the birth of the Solars - a thing after death, a dark pillar that defines what it means to be dying and all that is supposed to come after. Like their former Neverborn masters they can not die, at least not by any means that would be seem possible to any mortal. Anything that would do so simply results in them being Reborn as defined by their personal "Flaw of Immortality".

The Reborn have no friends or allies besides those who were most loyal to them before their change. The Neverborn weep black tears knowing that the meaning of the void can be changed, the sun dims briefly knowing full well that their golden child has killed itself in an act he himself thought impossible. This is an action of utmost blasphemy and should never be done lightly.

It is not known what happens when a Reborn is killed, truly killed that is. As with the 'death' of a Neverborn it simply hasn't happened yet. It is as likely for a ravenous dead exaltation to emerge to wreak revenge on a Creation that allowed something so immutable to be harmed, but it is equally possible that nothing happens at all. The barest whimper as death as-it-should-be takes hold once more.

Flaw of Immortality
Similar to a Flaw of Invulnerability. If your flaw is active you are unable to freely revive, the same way an exalted would be unable to active a charm with a Flaw of Invulnerability. This revive happens on your moment of death and the exact details of your rebirth are defined by your and your ST.

There was some discussion at the end of the last thread about whether currency or abstract resource rating is a better way to handle wealth in games. Someone was very strongly of the opinion that only currency can possibly work, and that abstract resource ratings can never work. That's not really my experience. I've never had any major issues with Resources in WoD games, or Profit Rating in Rogue Trader RPG or other similar systems, and when it comes to truly vast wealths that kind of a system is IMO better than keeping count of large amounts of money and occasionally adding or subtracting sums that are, in the context of that wealth, meaningless. If you don't bother to count every minor acquisition, on the other hand, then you're at least halfway there to an abstract resource system. I wouldn't go so far as to say that abstract resources are always better. Sometimes at can genuinely add something to keep count of money, but in my experience that works better in lower-powered games where there maybe not being enough money can be a genuine issue for PCs. It's rarely an issue for the Exalted, though, even ones who start off poor. I'd also say that currency works better if the game takes place somewhere with standardized currency. Creation has places with that, of course, but there's no setting-wide standard, and besides, when it comes to great wealth it's not like it's generally lying around in money. Making a Resources 5 acquisition is, in my view, less like taking money out of the bank to pay for something and more like selling some assets to buy something new, with the price you get from the assets you're selling not being set in stone but depending on a variety of factors, or maybe even leaving money out of it and just exchanging some assets of yours for whatever you want to get. In principle it might even be less a purchase and more like offering a lucrative business partnership or a trade deal or a useful favor in exchange for what you want.

>>

>Where the fuck is the source for the whole "breeding with elementals increases the chances of Dragon-Blooded Exaltation" anyway?
Nowhere because that's not accurate. What you're looking for though is Blood Primacy on Scroll of Heroes pg109. What is actually says is:
>If the Terrestrial’s lineage in such a mating is dominant, then the child is born as any other Terrestrial child with one important differenceTerrestrial mat-ings with other supernatural beings nearly always results in the child Exalting as a Dragon-Blood.
So, radically increased chance of Exaltation at the cost of Breeding since this doesn't actually suspend the normal way that works and the purity of the bloodline translates to Breeding even if introducing other powers increases Exalt chance for that one offspring. This can be worth it in some eugenics programs, especially ones with low breeding characters for whom just being an Dragonblood parent at all is going to be worth more than a potentially improved bloodline.
>>
>>98200663
Wasn't there some ways to effectively increase your breeding background through a cult gimmick? Or something about possession allowing the character to stack the benefits.

I am very confused about this homebrew. It sounds like you are defining the Abyssal equivalent of going Devil-Tiger as making yourself utterly miserable, cutting off all positive connections and somehow being deader than dead for literally no fucking benefit to yourself other than some kind of implied immortality. It seems to me it exists purely to make the PC regret ever playing an Abyssal.

...which is consistent with how Abyssals have been written for 2 editions, so I can't blame you for inconsistency at least!

>>
>>98203076
It's basically a custom form of "Lichdom". You're meant to lower your HP box to 0 and get yourself killed in order to accomplish things because death doesn't mean anything to you. Gameplay loop would be "Secure Immorality for scene, get reduced to zero HP to do stuff.... other things?" It's just the gameplay loop totally changes when you have "Dies and comes back" as a character aspect. Could easily be a charm line.

"Flaw of Immorality - Dead Flesh Lives"
The body is forever. So long as the Abyssal witnesses the drawing of a single drop of blood after it's rebirth they simply will not die - flesh and bone and dust lie in wait - sapient, screaming, and as undying as the Neverborn. An hour after the Abyssal's 'death' whatever is left of their body attempts to find itself, pulverizing itself to dust and gory splattering in order to do so. The Abyssal is aware during this entire process and may control where its body reforms, growing from the smallest mote of floating bone ash. In the rare case where the Abyssal is unable to glimpse a single drop of blood before it's defeat then instead it will simply wait, awake forever, until such a thing comes to pass. A single drop of blood spilled around the Abyssals death site is enough trigger Dead Flesh Lives, allowing them to be once more.

Flaw of Immorality - Each one has a respawn point, the place where you come back from death. Each one has an easy to trigger "thing" so the Abyssal doesn't have to be worried about being killed while it's up. Each one has a mote cost to "speed it up"? Each one has a trigger that takes place when the Abyssal is dead, allowing them to come back. They are always aware while in this death state and it should be very easy for an ally to revive him. Charms with Flaws of Immortality don't cost motes to activate but if you spend motes you revive faster?

i just wanted to write some garbage
>>
>>98203069
Hey, as long as it's fighting against gremlins and (Nation other than your own) he should be fine, right? Or is this about putting kids' brains in combat drones?
>>
>>98203459
>Could easily be a charm line
This is pretty much what I'm thinking. Abyssals already have charms that let them come back from death in 2e/3e. This should be a charmline that expands on that ability upwards to better effect and downwards to lesser effects at earlier access, rather than pretending to be a paradigm shift.
>>
>>98203550
I get that but I also wanted to write fanfiction. Still, the idea of entire charm line devoted to just dying and doing things while being dead sounds really interesting to me.

You just gotta get around that whole "If you die you're dead, no coming back". The way I look at it the Exalted themselves defining what death means to them and following that fits pretty well. Then just inflicting it on others and abusing the shit out of it like a proper exalt should.

Balance wise "Can't die" doesn't even seem that powerful to me for some reason. It doesn't break action econ, doesn't break mote econ... Plus it changes the 'meta' quite a bit if the PC _wants_ to be put into situations where they'll die. Pretty much the opposite of what it is now desu.

>The Sidereal protects herself with a shroud of inevitability to which she is quite accustomed, but which other beings shudder to confront. Whenever someone tries to supernaturally glean the Sidereal’s secrets, such as by scrutinizing her aura, reading her mind, or forecasting her future, they instead see only a prayer strip floating in the darkness before their eyes, which slowly blooms with pungent violet flowers, which in turn unfold into a terrible vision of the spy’s ultimate demise.
>The Sidereal may reflexively pay 1 Essence when she is subjected to scrying, mind-reading, aura-scrutiny, and similar magic, and make a Wits + Law roll against a difficulty of the scrutinizer’s Willpower rating. The spy is blocked from learning anything about the Sidereal, and loses one point of Willpower per success rolled, as the prophecy of their final destruction shakes them to their core. Worse, as the vision-petals wilt and fall away, so too do all details of their foreseen death, leaving behind only a terrible feeling of hopelessness, but no details with which to work to avert it.

The funny thing is that sorcery/necromancy workings already fill in the idea of lichdom. One of the things you can do is to become conditionally immortal
At least in 3e.
As for the idea of ghostly projecting yourself, you would have to ask yourself if this power doesn't invalidate a whole lot of stealth charms; it could work as maybe an elder essence stealth charm.

Are there actually any adventure modules for Exalted? I tried looking this up, but I wasn't able to parse out the answer based on what I read.
>>
>>98203610
Yeah, Lunars also have a lot of death avoid charms in 2e from what I remember that would be worth looking at. Ideas I'm just thinking of for fun.

1: Trigger X on Death.
2: While in death state Y, While in living state Z
3: Being as immortal as a solar exaltation means the only way to get rid of you is locking you up, so your lose condition changes.
4: Other NPC's react. If your rebirth is something so easy that any mortal can pull it off you can set up pretty easy 'life lines' and go crazier with the whole dying over and over thing.
5: Unless you have a way to do things while in your 'dead state' you're going to be bored. I'll call actions taken during death "Whispers".
6: Flaw of Immortality is personalized to the player. Some will think being a meat chunk that can revive while being on fire is cool, others will want something more esoteric or undeady. It should always be easy because it changes how you play, you want to spam going between the two states.
7: Shouldn't break action econ, shouldn't break mote econ other then the whole not dying thing. Not sure how to handle shaping effects being spammed on them, maybe they're reset on death?
8: Gear would be radically different. If you drop everything on death like I imagine you would.
9: Charm where ally lands the killing blow on you, allowing you to revive midfight?

Ideas are easy but making something is hard.

>>98203573
There are a lot of things in Exalted that are OP. Surviving incapacitating lethal damage is not particularly special.

>>98203571
>Do you think ExWoD's Conclusive Wisdom would protect against the Sense Wyrm/Weaver/Wyld/Gaia brand of the werewolf Gifts?
For sure, if it's one of her secrets. If she's being open about it then no. Even if she doesn't know about taints being a thing, if she's trying to hide something similar then it would be hidden and if she isn't then it wouldn't be. For example, a Sidereal with an evil dark side they keep out of the public eye would have their Wyrm taint hidden even without the context to know what that is.

Breaking action econ, mote regen high enough, anything that would go through a perfect dodge, What other stuff just easily breaks the game?
>>
>>98203825
All of that stuff breaks the game more than not dying when you're filled with incapacitating damage. This effect is on the Gem of Incomparable Wellness in 1e and 3e, and resurrection is in Abyssals with Immortal Malevolence / Immortal Malevolence Enslavement in 2e/3e. Of the above only Immortal Malevolence Enslavement in 2e is vulnerable to GET in case you were wondering. None of it breaks the game, it just lets you do some mildly unfair stuff that's OP in certain scenarios, and it's all very niche.

Breaking the action economy and getting mote regen high enough both break the game in every situation it covers. Going through perfect dodges breaks combat, and like it or not that is the primary subsystem.

Some more stuff more broken than not dying when killed: Stacking Spiritual Perfection and a Gem of Adamant Skin with Insatiable Slave Stamina to reduce all damage to bashing, prevent bashing damage from rolling over, and not be incapacitated by bashing damage - in other words, it becomes impossible to hinder you with damage. Reducing the cost of all your charms to 0 (Echoes of Infinity). Instantly winning any scenario (Breathing on the Black Mirror). Reducing the cost of your Excellency to 0 (Infinite Ability Mastery). 5xing all charms (Iron Whirlwind Technique / Instant Murder Flash). Fusing with Yozi (Unity of the Closed Fist, the composite being does not inherit surrender oaths / great curse / etc) and walking it back into Creation. Duck Fate being used for anything other than dodging attacks.
>>
>>98203610
Ghostly projecting would be a very powerful tool against people who can't detect immaterial spirits, who admittedly are the vast, vast majority of the setting. A lot of the genuinely important people have a lot easier time detecting the immaterial than detecting an Exalted super-ninja using Stealth Charms, though.

One question I have about the Lap. Was the statue built during the first age?

Any advice how to tie demons to specific Yozis?
>>
>>98206192
Use visual cues following the themes of the Yozi
>>
>>98206192
1st circle demons are tools of the third and second circles.
For example, just imagine what kind of creatures live in Jacint's tower.
3rd circles are aspects of the yozis, just imagine them interacting with something, and create a 3rd based on it.
For example: Ligier is the embodiment of Malfeas self hatred.
>>
>>98206225
>>98206464
So what demon would make sense for a bat like creature with supernatural perception? the idea is that the gaze "peals" secrets from the victim alongside alongside their willpower when they look at their victims.
