>>98214043gonna say I dislike metal coins. of all the upgrades, metal coins are the worst. OTOH I just got out Nefarious to evaluate for my great board game culling and I had to modge podge the cardboard coins because they were such shit cardboard they were delaminating after the first play.
I really need to sleeve my Power Grid money. It's starting to tear apart. I found some money sleeves on chink stores but none are the correct size. Any alternatives, /bgg/?
>>98214043>Favorite way to count money/resources in games you played?I usually stack them in towers of equal amounts, but depends on the material the component is made of>Least favorite way to count resources (so our resident devs-to-be know what to avoid)?I don't have a least favourite way per se. If there's too much components with small numbers it annoys me at times. Worst is probably with these fucking crystals because you can't always see which one is blue and which is green>Anything you've been thinking of that no game has tried yet?Not really, best I can come up are combinations of mechanics.
>>98214751Anon you might be colorblind

>resourcesMost ways I can think of are good. The only bad parts about resource counting are not due to the method itself, but the fact that some games have a very wide range of values. The more orders of magnitude, the worse it gets.
It's been a hot minute since the last time we played this. What kind of hipster game that appeals to intellectuals did I get this time /bgg/? Hint: it's in theme with this particular thread edition.

Game that uses VP for bidding
>>98216368I don't like how Simone Luciani games just default on that to balance a game.Like in Barrage you have objectively best nations and executives mixed in with objectively terrible ones and instead of doing any sort of playtesting and shit they just recommend to "lol bid VP to either go first and pick the OP tile everybody will want in turn 1 while getting the last pick (worse) player"
>>98215693oh nice, tell us what you thinki've got a copy on the way too
>>98214043>Favorite way to count money/resources in games you played?with multi-use cards that are both money and something else>Least favorite way to count resources (so our resident devs-to-be know what to avoid)?converting 1 thing to another thing to money
>>98216368Sure but that isn't why Indonesia is such a banger
>>98215753NTAYRTMetal coins are great provided they are readable. I got some blue metal coins for Lizard Wizard that are extremely difficult to read the face value of because they have a bunch of filigree on them with the numbers and they didn't two tone them at all. Replacing cardboard and paper components that are frequently handled with something stouter is almost always a plus.
>>98214043>Anything you thinking of that no game has tried?Yeah, I wanted to make the most aggressive pay pig game ever. It's a mech skirmish game, however, the mechs are made from magnetically connecting parts. Ripping off armored core. You got a head, torso, legs, arms, weapon spot on each hard, two back slots. Not only do you have to build the mechs, each piece has a card associated with it of different rarities with the cards determining stats like damage, range, movement, etc based on what they are attached to as well as an energy value with a hard limit on energy totals per team. Putting it all on a hex map for easy rules and facing plus selling "official" maps at a premium.Want people to throw out stupid money chasing cards and limited cosmetic part runs using metal components to fuck 3D printer fags out of the hobby and ramp up price further for the "premium components".
>>98217294Seems similar to Snapships.Which brings me to a topic I wanted to ask, opinions on snapships? Seems like literally the game I wanted to exist when I was a kid but idk if it even half-delivers on the promise
>>98217294honestly I would fall for thisbut you are competing against mobile frame zero
>>98217294you could sell the pieces in blind blister packs like navia drapt or mutant chronicles (ffg). Wanna get one head? You have to buy a pack that has five. and then require official parts for tournaments so you can further milk the paypiggies
What are the best stealth board games?
>>98218298Burn Cycle is probably the best stealth board game. I wasn't a fan of it, but it absolutely nailed the whole sneaking around and hacking stuff.

>>98216723>fix it in post! They expect players to somehow know the future to fix it
>>98214043>Favorite way to count money/resources in games you played?Placing generic components in designated locations. It's easy for setup and teardown, it's easy to handle, and it reads clearly from across the table. But it's not a good idea in games where you exchange resources with other players.>Least favorite way to count resources (so our resident devs-to-be know what to avoid)?Resources as cards. I prefer squaring up a stack of cards to hiding things behind a shield, but if it's not hidden information cards for resources are a pain in the ass.>Anything you've been thinking of that no game has tried yet?I've only ever seen my first answer on player boards e.g. because players have limited storage capacity. If there isn't a reason like that and cubes are player colored it'd be nice to have them in communal locations on the central board.

Would this be the right general to discuss Root?
>>98221172>>/Lgbt/actually, yes
>>98221172technically yes, but what is there to discuss? the game is an unbalanced mess by design, only playable when all players know each faction in and out, because clear concise win objectives a-la COIN were too difficult for Cole Wehrle and he resorted to "race to 30 vp, but each faction scores at different pace, and i won't tell which is which because lmao" so all the players need to know who the leader is no matter what the VP bar says because crows conspiracy at 25 are two turns away from a win or more, and woodland alliance at 17 are one turn away or less.
>>98221231Well fuck. Just started playing with friends and I think that might be the best way to play. Teaming up and playing politics to stop people from winning too fast seems necessary. I’ve been playing on mobile to learn the rules better and I’m getting my ass handed to me by woodland alliance. Eyrie is who I’m trying to play as but I’ve lost 10 games straight so far because none of the other NPCs do shit to WA which means they can just explode on half the board and win without anyone protesting it besides me.
>>98221279Well, I did over-exaggerate for dramatic effect, it's not THAT bad. At a similar skill level the individual faction differences will probably get lost in the sauce of "new player makes dumb cool move", so playing with friends is a good way to go. Someone also told me that the best way to learn is to be the only newb on a table of knowers, but i haven't learned anything from that game beyond "corvid conspiracy sucks without adset and sucks slightly less with adset"and yes, the way to deal with WA is for the militant factions (cats, eyrie, and so on) to go full blast into martial law (3 units per clearing around the WA fist tokens) to make WA pay an actually fair rate for their VPs. Hopefully the explosion taught them to not look at the VP line and look at the player boards and action capabilities instead, as that is more telling of who is winning.
>>98221335Yeah and the NPC players aren’t doing that at all. WA has free rein to do whatever. I’m hoping getting my ass kicked this many times is going to help when I play this weekend with my friends where I can actually help others strategize against the woodland terrorists.
>>98221364wait why are you playing with NPCs, its a pvp game, play vs other players. I understand using the digital edition to practice, i do the same with Pax Ren on BGA, but at least fight humans who know what they're doing or who can be talked to, not computers coded by someone who never played the game.
>>98221172discuss what a paint by numbers shitpile it is? sure
>>98220588define fiddly then
>>98221381Just practice. It’s helping to learn the rules but I won’t get together with friends until the weekend.
>>98221335>Someone also told me that the best way to learn is to be the only newb on a table of knowersThat is if the newb in question is okay with the "losing-to-learn" method. Many new people I've invited didn't want to keep repeating root gaming sessions because they find it "unforgiving" and "mean". And the learning curve of learning each faction scares them off. Or maybe you're better off looking for people who are into area control games.

>>98222553>Elder Sign>excellentbelievable post by bgg's most credible and plausible poster
>>982225121. Wingspan
>>98221942I believe your quarrel stems from 2 differing definitions of the word fiddly as it relates to board games. The first is purely physical, like giant stacks of sided chits in WW1 games, or resources that need to be kept in a too small area, and I believe that's what the first anon inferred was happening due to the tiny ass pic of Container. The second is more mental, where lots of rules, all with a few exceptions stack up to no good end as in games like The HolyshitIwishIwasUnconscious Mind. It is indeed ludicrous for someone to suggest that Container is fiddly in either sense of the word, although the 0$ bills kind of approach it, but I think someone who's only seen a too small picture of the board can be forgiven for the mistake.>>98222553>RNG that can't be mitigated for.Any game of AoS between players of equal skill is going to come down to what colors come out of the bag to refill the cities.
>>98219619Do you think Hansa Teutonica is also fiddly? What about Azul?
>>98222746azul is garbage
>>98222766Do you find it difficult to comprehend simple questions?
>>98222839what do you mean?
>>98221460Don't try to turn this around and answer the question. What makes container fiddly? Is So clover also fiddly because it has multiple boards?I'd like to turn this into an actual discussion because like many bg terms, 'fiddly' is rather vague and used intuitively. But from your previous answers I expect to just be insulted. You could try and suprise me, though
>wow so much interaction, you're literally in your opponent's face very move Fuck you. This game has NO interaction. If I can play a game without saying a word, you are not interacting. No one has ever made a deal in Hansa Teutonica (I don't care about your hypotheticals).
>>98224018Not quite "fun is a buzzword" but not bad, I'd rate it 6/10

>>98222137>>98222145i invite you to do it yourself. the original i edited is attached.
>>98222556I do believe Elder Sign is an excellent game based on the criteria I listed. Lots of strategy on when to save dice, when to use assets, when to clear a spot that someone else might need to clear for their perk combined with low rules overhead. It's themed well and, while there's a lot of RNG with the dice rolling, you have ways to prevent bad outcomes at the expense of possibly fucking yourself over later. If you add an expansion like Gates of Arkham where some of the info about a new site is hidden, it's an even better game. I think my only gripe with the game is setup time and I'd much rather play the digital version.
>>98224018Now you understand why you should never take anything Eurofags say seriously.
>>98224824Idk I have always prefered modern art with fictional artists. For some reason memeing up Karl Gitter is just that much funnier.
>>98224931From my experience, when people praise a game's dice RNG mitigation mechanics, they're almost always overselling it and the mitigation is very marginal. Like Undaunted: Stalingrad, it's a pure RNG fest with a couple of layers of obfuscation. That said, haven't played Elder Sign. How does it compare to stuff like Eldritch Horror/Mansions of Madness?
>>98225035bog standard overproduced ffg coopasloppa
>>98224931I've only played Elder Sign once and we were never in any amount of danger of losing. I don't know if it's because we were all just good at games or if we rolled really well or what but it was really easy.
