Would the game "feel" better if there was no Marinec (and no Chaos Marine) Codex, but Marines would be a limited selection for Guard? Similar to a squad of Ogryn, Guard armies could bring a few marines as elite.
Chaos would be entirely based upon various cultist, mutant, demon and traitor guard units, with Chaos Marines as an elite selection too.

>>
>>98226045
anyone who said "melee was good in 11th" was a retard who played a shooty army and saw that the terrain got dense and you couldnt shoot DZ to DZ while touching your dick all game. Shooty armies have had it so baby mode easy that they saw the game shift to not being baby mode they said "its melee". This was further made hilarious when "overrun" was announced which functionally changes literally NOTHING about the fight phase and ignoring the fact that charging across the game is now a -1 compared to 10th. Remember, shooty army specialists are fucking retarded and do not understand the fight phase.

Now that toe-towering LOS paired with terrain that is scantilly clad and tiny as fuck doesnt allow any army to properly stage in no mans land, every melee faction specialist and melee player is sounding the alarm of how fucked they are. Its only braindead retards saying it isnt that bad. When you ask them to show you where you can stage in NML, they literally cannot show you or tell you that you are wrong, but will still assert that you are, because they are fucking retarded.

I started the game with sisters in 4e. I love my old metal models. Also the paragons. I have no desire to build them, so I got some shitty 3D prints.

I am reading Dark Imperium and Indomitus Crusade lore.
The lore says that the Ultima Founding created formations of marines that are legion-sized. Hundreds of thousands of marines, possibly reaching as far as one million.
These formations were called the Unnumbered Sons.
By the end of the Plague Wars, all that remained of the Unnumbered Sons was 20K marines.
How the fuck did so many Marines die in just 12 years? That's worse than the HH.
>>
Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.

>>98226007
Lovely paintjob.
>>
>>98226275
Who would you want to playtest the game? People that aren't trying to find edge cases? That kind of playtesting would be useless.
>>
>>98226304
You don't have to change paints, brushes, pallettes or water so often.
Different segments require different techniques and by doing a bunch of the same thing in a row it gets better and easier as you practise.
>>
>>98226296
No you are not, I said I'm building them - not kitbashing or converting them. To make it even more clear to you, I build them by following the instruction.
>>
>>98226318
>How the fuck did so many Marines die in just 12 years? That's worse than the HH.
It's a tough galaxy. But the Unnumbered Sons weren't diminished solely through attrition, they were split off to found new chapters or reinforce existing ones as they went.
>>
>>98226288
Are they doing that? We need more options desu, it'd be nice to get a sprue were we can make imperial vehicles ork like
>>
>>98226339
From my understanding, the 20K were disbanded and scattered either prior to or after the Plague Wars.
>>
>>98226318
GW was always bad with numbers but to everyone's surprise it somehow got even worse with Gathering Storm.
>>
>>98226351
Yeah, their last mission was in the novel that introduced them, but they're already a greatly diminished force by the time that happens.
>>
>>98226338

>>
>>98226304
Less time needed to switch between colours. Easier to find a nice flow repeating a task. No need to wait for things to dry like you might have to on a single model.
It's not for everyone though, some people hate it. I can only batch a couple at a time, a full squad severely reduces my fun.

>>98226318
Lore answer: The Imperium had an existential crisis on one hand and more space marines than they knew what to do with on the other and mashed them together, resulting in the Eastern-front experience. On top of that, the Unnumbered Sons were used as reinforcements for existing space marine chapters that were in the same shit, so their "losses" included casualties from completely unrelated units. If a Greyshield died, that's -1 Unnumbered Son. If a Charcharodon died, a Greyshield would be sent to fill the hole in the ranks, and that's also -1 Unnumbered Son. 12 years of high casualty rates, plus high non-casualty attrition on top of that, can absolutely whittle down an army of a million to a mere twenty thousand.

Real answer: GW can't count.

Those competitive circuits already existed when 40k wasn't like this and will exist until 40k isn't popular to sustain them. They have nothing to do with the writers being shit at their jobs.
>>
>>98226456
The competitive circuits like the ITC literally would release mission packs, terrain packs, ban new things and regulate limitations in tournament list building for their events. We agree, GW is fucking awful at writing rules and retarded, but we had a safeguard (wasnt perfect but was there) and now its gone and TOs just regurgitate whatever GW tells them to and obviously favor their armies in design this way.
>>
>>98226318
Grayshields are the only cool thing that ever happened with Primaris and nobody remembers them at all. I also like that most of them were hated/tortured/abused when they showed up and heightmogged their firstborn cousins. I thought it was cool they felt more at home among their greyshield family than the marines they actually shared geneseed with.
>>
>>98226508
The Dark Angels and Flesh Tearers ones were pretty roughed up, certainly.
>>
>>98226508
As usual with primaris, greyshields are just a lamer version of a 30k concept with blackshields.
>>
>>98226330
Take a look at the absolutely zany fucking FAQs they have to craft up. A game like this is never going to be balanced on a fine point and leaning solely into playtesters that only give a fuck about hyper-competitive play is just folly.
>>
>>98226550
So what's the alternative? Not having those FAQs and let the door open for retard rule lawyers that want to cheat? If you're already playing with normal people then these FAQs mean nothing because you were already applying common sense. If you're playing with a retard they protect you. There's no downside to this.
>>

>primatard is blind

>>
>>98226557
Not that anon, but that's kinda the problem with modern gaming. Not even strictly for 40k. Once up pin a time, those retards would be told to fuck off for being retards. Now, rules lawyers are the norm to try and crack rules wide open to exploit some bullshit loophole. 3rd/4th edition rules weren't exactly air tight, but people look back fondly because people didn't typically play like jackasses.

thanks. needs a matte coat but I only have brush on so I'm not looking forward to it.
>>
>>98226581
Man i dunno. There were some pretty retarded rules-lawyers back then, too, you just didn't see them quite as often. I remember a guy trying to say that I couldn't use the meltabombs that Screamers of Tzeentch were default armed with, because they didn't have hands. Despite hands not being a requirement in the rules anywhere. Or people trying to say that the wound allocation rules required you to remove the sorcerer in a rubrics squad if an odd number of wounds were dealt because he was the only 1-wound model in the group, despite them clearly and explicitly saying the opposite.
>>
>>98226557
Nothing you can do now, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. Playing with retards will get you the exact same results you would get during any other edition; they'll find something to argue about until they're blue in the face regardless of rules. and FAQs. The general expectations of the game are skewed compared to other editions; newer players at my LGS only go for "good models" and don't care for anything else. On top of that, they really only run netlists.
>>
>>98226546
Greyshields are nothing like Blackshields
>>
>>98226622
That's why they are lame.
>>
How good is Infiltrator this edition?
>>
>>98226669
for some dispositions/missions way better due to turn one scoring and actions, but you can't infiltrate and scout now so some units are worse.
>>
>>98226608
Yes but they were card out for being retards and shunned because they're retards. Now, those people are the norm, except instead of "these guys don't have hands!" it's more like "I can do this because the rules say this happens here and this doesn't happen until here so it doesn't affect this and because I have this, I ignore that rule and can do this even though it says I can't" and instead of being called a retard, everyone claps because he's clearly very good at the game or something.
>>

>>
>>98227185

>>98227185
Nope, the primaris augmentation is just a series of additional surgeries and modification of the original geneseed. A primaris salamander is still the using salamander geneseed. Thats why when the grayshields were sent back home they were sent to chapters matching their gene heritage.
>>
>>98227190
Sure I guess I agree with that, but what I'm trying to say is - when I look at the older marine models, there was something there that appealed to me that the primaris ones are lacking, but I can't actually describe specifically what that is. I can't look at the Primaris and say "it's missing this and this feature", all I know is their general appearance is unexciting and lame compared to the old ones.
>>
>>98227199
too smooth, i guess
real armor is sloped and detailed

there's barely any actual detail on these
>>
>>98227207
I think that's it. The old models, because of the smaller proportions, had a greater ratio of detail to smooth plate. The new ones scaled up the size but instead of adding detail they actually TOOK AWAY details and compounded the problem.

>>
>>98227195
That’s partially true, primaris gene cultures in some of fluff also have lower rejection rates compared to the older more degraded or mutated ones so it’s less likely to kill an aspirant due to rejection. It’s still a modified version of the original that produces the extra organs. I always wondered how many marines have geneseed organs grown from multiple donors since some organs fail or break down when grown from the initial starter material of the progenoid.

Both the Imperium and Chaos could be right – the Imperium the survival of mankind, Chaos the apotheosis of the spirit.

The Imperium is a ultra-conservative bureaucracy that has no qualms about horrid work conditions, squashing dissent with overwhelming force, or routinely sending meat waves into battle. Not because those things are necessary, but simply because "that's just the way we've always done it."

I'm still undecided which disposition I want to be.

Purge is really simple and easy, and you can just unga bunga and do fine. And all the early playtesting seems to concur, people are saying it's both strong and easy.

But part of me has always liked objectives and winning through not just killing stuff, and so Hold is kind of appealing too. And that one also seems to be relatively simple, you just stand on objectives. Purge and Hold are appealing in their simplicity.

My two favorite detachments are Bringers of Flame (purge) and Champions of Faith (disruption), so that might make it easy to decide. One of my favorite and most used detachments is already one of the dispositions I'm considering. Keep it simple.

I do wonder if in the future they're going to change this system. I think it would make sense for detachments to be associated with like 2 or 3 dispositions, since there's nothing inherently "disruptive" about champions of faith for example, and for example Penitent Host could easily also be Purge yet it's currently Hold. They could do another sweep over all of these and easily justify lots of them having two+ detachments.

I'm also a diehard contrarian, so part of me wants to play Disruption because that's generally the most random and different one, and has you jump through hoops to do things, and early feedback is that people think it's a bit harder.

I’ve been looking at custom nail stamping plates for 40k miniature stuff like symbols.
Are they worth it and what service is best for custom ones and can basic acrylic be used?

i was just thinking personally as a beginner, the ruleset is pretty much the last thing on my mind
alas, i'm a fat autistic sperg so i did not join the conversation to offer my two cents

I’ll respect your opinion and won’t do it then. while on the topic of thread editions and questions, do you have any good ideas for some? I’ve kept it mostly ork related because I like them :D with a couple marines malevolent ones here and there, but I’ve only got a few more ideas off the dome before I’m all out.

That leopard print cape is awesome, I like the power sword too. well done anon

I think there's an easy way to make combat patrol good as a game mode. Use MESBG rules. MESBG was built for bigger than a squad of guys who act independently, and scales nicely to a platoon level with leadership bubbles producing soft squads without locking them into coherency and formal teams that move and act together.

Oh wow, the 40k guard has the most creative freedom for original custom stuff among all the 40k factions.
Time to homebrew an original regiment:
>aesthetics inspired by world wars and Cold War
>green, brown, greys to black
>coin toss decides if vehicle heavy or infantry heavy
Yep it is guard time.

>choosing a rapeable character
Why?
>>

Chaos is the primordial truth
>>
>rules now state MW from hazardous tests can go on any model in the squad
>MFW the squad plasma gunner's face gets melted off and the commissar tells me to pick up his gun next

GW sold this back in the day.
>your ratling

The only rape victims in 40k are the Eldar.
>>
>space marines and orks in launch box have a shared decal sheet

absolute bastards

No Goobertown. You conan obrian clone.
I’m not paying for your overpriced 40k aftermarket stuff.
It will only go towards more dead hookers in your basement.

None of the detachments particularly buff artillery. Even the "siege regiment" which is explicitly the artillery detachment, just gives you off map artillery support instead of buffing your artillery units.
>>
>>98227639
you dont have to buy the goobertown brand stamper, just watch the fucking video its just basic how to use stampers technique, it applies to any brand
>>

I've always kinda liked the idea of a primitive worlder regiment that goes full classical antiquity with it. Bronze flak armor, red uniforms, crests, capes; tanks with eyes painted like triremes. Shit like that.

Guard is just on the expensive and annoying to transport side.

You can bring a baneblade that gives cover to models behind it. Make up sideskirts that cover the sides all the way to the floor on it so people "can't see your models past it from their bases" which is a thing. With a dozer in front that spans the whole front.

Outflanking leman russes means one turn of lost shooting. You outflank the lighter stuff like hellhounds instead. They can be focussed and dropped fast. The melta hellhound loadout is popular for this.

also
>no blood axes
>no deathskulls
>no black templars
>no marines malevolent
>>
>>98227663
i've got like 10 black templars transfer sheets left over from an army i no longer have.

think people will pay money for them?
>>
>>98227628
No you won't.
>>
>>98227650
Oh okay.
Has anyone here used a custom stamp making service?
How long did the commission take and were the results good and what service?
>>
>>98227652
What even is or are the best thing(s) to use to transport a full guard army easily?
