Wizards is trying to make MTG in to Pokemon where no one actually plays with the cards but they slurp them up anyway to collect everything that has their favorite IP brand scrungle on it. No need to balance or test them, just put Fortnite Jonesy on a card and sell it for $500

Nebraska?More like Neblasta.
Well, that was a pre-release.Went 4-0 on the first two matches and then 0-2 on the third for both drafts.>PR 1Match 1 was a slow-as-fuck mirror match, but Doc Samson got me enough mana to power up Hulk and/or Thing for a big swing. The Bow on any mana dork was fun.Match 2 was a race to MODOK against a GW weenie Heroes deck. Either killed their tokens or weakened their creatures low enough to stop Crewing the 3/3 mana rock.Match 3 was not fast enough to develop against an Izzet flying artifacts deck.Moon Girl surprisingly under-performed. No reliable card draw until she was outclassed by the bigger creatures.>PR 2Easy Match 1 against Gruul. Ant-Man came down early and grew too big too fast.Match 2 got stalled out when Ant-Man got Frozen in Ice'd. Broke the staring match when the two Merfolk creatures synergized and got too big with too much card draw. Match 3 first stalled when opponent disabled reliable 2nd draw in the Warlord and stalled out T'Challa with chump blocks long enough to fly around for lethal. Then on second game, Ant-Man got Frozen again and opponent eventually got a Cosmic Cube, double-triggering with Absorbing Man and getting two free casts of 5 CMC spells a turn, eventually churning through all his removal and dropping 3/3 flyers during combat. Near-perfect answer for the board state. Should have opted for more card-draw engines than card-draw payoffs.

>>98232791Pretty fun limited environment it seems. Not a half assed set like spider-man/turtles so all 10 color combos seem viable. Fixing is good (the land cyclers are good to great) so you can splash a 3rd color relatively easily. At least having a small boom over here

>>98237344723. Controlling Another Player 723.1. Some cards allow a player to control another player during that player’s next turn. This effect applies to the next turn that the affected player actually takes. The affected player is controlled during the entire turn; the effect doesn’t end until the beginning of the next turn. 723.3. Only control of the player changes. All objects are controlled by their normal controllers. A player who’s being controlled during their turn is still the active player. 723.4. If information about an object in the game would be visible to the player being controlled, it’s visible to both that player and the controller of the player. If information about cards outside the game would be visible to the player being controlled, it’s visible only to that player, not the controller of the player. Example: The controller of a player can see that player’s hand and the face of any face-down creatures they control. 723.5. While controlling another player, a player makes all choices and decisions the controlled player is allowed to make or is told to make by the rules or by any objects. This includes choices and decisions about what to play, and choices and decisions called for by spells and abilities. Example: The controller of another player decides which spells that player casts and what those spells target, and makes any required decisions when those spells resolve. Example: The controller of another player decides which of that player’s creatures attack, which player or planeswalker each one attacks, and how those attacking creatures assign their combat damage. 723.5a The controller of another player can use only that player’s resources (cards, mana, and so on) to pay costs for that player.

Nobody plays anything but EDH at my lgs. With few release or limited events now and then.
>>98239400EDH is fun and all, but I'd much prefer to have a good 1v1 with my buddies with simple precons so that everything is fair and balanced.

>>98239561I hate UB, but DBZ would be a fun one.

>>98239529Correct. Sad your EDH mind don't get it.

>>98238724Poorly. I actually had to look this up because I was wrong initially. Until a decade ago, a player could look at their sideboard at any time and a player controlling them could therefore look at that sideboard as well. With Eldritch Moon they changed it." When Emrakul, the Promised End and Coax from the Blind Eternities were previewed earlier this week, it inspired a lot of discussion about a little-known corner of the tournament rules. Quoting from Section 3.15, Sideboard:"During a game, players may look at their own sideboard and the sideboard of any players they currently control. The sideboard must remain clearly distinguishable from other cards."As of Eldritch Moon, this rule is changing. Simply put, you can now never see an opponent's sideboard, even if you control that opponent. The exact language of the rule is being finalized. The philosophy of the old rule makes sense: You can look at your sideboard. I control you, so I can see whatever you can see. Ergo, I can see your sideboard. But this has huge ramifications at every level of tournament play. It brings up questions of informational access, lengthy note-taking delays, the timing of strategic concessions, team dynamics, even the physical interactions between players. If you force a player you're controlling to cast a "Wish," you can't have them access any cards in their sideboard. If you make them cast Death Wish, the same rule applies: no cards, even at random sight unseen. "The current tournament rules state "During a game, players may look at their own sideboard, keeping it clearly distinguishable from other cards at all times. If a player gains control of another player, they may not look at that player’s sideboard, nor may they have that player access their sideboard." If you control another player and cast a Learn card or a Wish, you get nothing.
>>98239653What should happen so I could get the first option? I wanna press that No UB button so hard...
>>98239679it is out of your hands at this point, at best you could try to join the people trying to create a community for UB-free formats but that is really a long-term strategy rather than a fix everything now button
>>98232280>Photographic reflexeswhy is this even a keyword lol>tqPhantasmal Image
>>98239845It's not a keyword, it's an ability word like "landfall" that's used primarily for mechanical cohesion. Starting with the D&D sets Wizards got a lot looser with just using them for flavortext on one-off abilities.
>>98239561It’s been leaked from with in the design team. It’s going to happen with in the next two years.
>>98239898oops, thx for letting me know
Any ninja lolis in this game?

>Still haven't gotten around to getting back into standard>Check mtgtop8>48% Izzet>20% Badgermole decksSurely they'll have to ban something, right? There's no way they're gonna tell us that "standard is still evolving," right? I'm still really hoping my favorite jank DSK get a small window to succeed between Marvel bannings and the rest of the year.
>>98240449Standard is consumed by UB hell.Let it go.
>>98240449>>98240468*Standard+ i fucked up my joke.
>>98240449
>>98240449I doubt it, the next B&R is a week from tomorrow, they'll probably say something like "we are monitoring the situation"
>>98240449When was the last time they banned something really significant? Cutter?
>>98240528It seems like WotC is having a hell of a time keeping balance, and they refuse to ban shit that is in 80% of decks.
>>98240644I think they just don't really care that much, when EDH and kitchen table are the ones bringing in the cash, there just isn't any urgency to balance 60-card formats properly
I miss playing but I don’t miss planeswalkers and everyone shitting out creature tokens all over the place is now a safe time to come back or will I be mad/sad all over again?
>>98240694I'm this close to thinking Arena was a mistake, forcing the standard players online while killing the local crowds that formed at game stores.
>>98240712Planeswalkers are less prominent now, but that's a double-edged sword as the reason is a mix of very stupid in-universe lore that made planes even more of a watered-down slurry thematically and the fact that for Universes Beyond stuff they wanted everything to be legendary creatures for commander so there's no planeswalkers in those sets.
>>98240644>It seems like WotC is having a hell of a time keeping balance,Your mistake is to assume they are trying at all.MTG's design team is a group of uneducated millennial cowards, hired recently based on "passion" instead of competence, who care more about politics than gaming, and who have zero knowledge of experience in game design. They don't just not care about balance, they literally do not know that the concept of game balance even exists.
>>98240719You have to remember that Arena was very deliberately sent out to die. When it launched playing against your friends was a nightmare, drafting was with bots (though the matches were humans) and the rules engine/UI/cardpool was a joke. It just happened to launch in September 2019 and shortly afterwards paper play got a half-decade kick in the nards
>>98240729Fair take. What do you think now though? I don't think Arena is going to be short lived and it has quite a few users regularly.
>>98240739I'm a little biased because I'm immunocompromised so going to an LGS for a few hours isn't really on the table. On the one hand, I fell in love with Arena when I was playing standard GB Explore with Wildgrowth Walker and rotation meant that it was now a sultai deck. I didn't have to pay $50 for 4 Watery Graves, I didn't have to wait for cardboard, I could just tweak my deck with some wildcards and was off to the races. I never would've bothered with Pioneer if I had to pay for the cards, and certainly wouldn't have experimented with decks and sideboard cards as much as I did. I never would've played Vintage cube at MTGO's prices or in paper, and now I've done dozens of them. But the monetization is comically predatory even by TCG standards, and there really is no getting around the fact that part of what I love about magic is playing the game. Having stacks of cards, being with people. The shit we all did in middle school. Arena's great in a lot of ways but it's no substitute for paper, I just don't know if it's the last bright spot in a death spiral or a major component of the problem.
Alright marvelniggers. Explain to me. Why is Loki's type "God" and not "Giant"?
>>98241373Stop asking questions. Just consume product then get excited for next product.(Seriously though, the idiots at WtoC know fuck all about anything, and that includes Marvel. The extend of their knowledge is the MCU, and nobody watched the 2nd Thor movie that explains Loki's history so they probably just assumed "durrr Thor brother? Must be God!" They are idiots is always the answer for why WotC is being retarded.)
>>98241373Because God is the more popular EDH tribe. Not much else to it.
>>98241373>one or moreCrazy how those three words can totally ruin an ability
>>98241373>>98241389Because he's le Deceiver. He's deceiving (You) into thinking he's a God.
It feels like I haven't been pandered to since Avacyn Restored came out.
>>98241373>Alright marvelniggers. Explain to me. Why is Loki's type "God" and not "Giant"?He looks average height to me, also he is a god.SL - OP marvel shit
>Bring back Villain type.>Spinal Villain is still a beast.I'm for torturing, maiming, mutilating and murdering MaRo.
>>98241373He was reincarnated as a god after he died.
>>98241389After Loki died he was reincarnated as a god and chose to become the hero Kid Loki. Then he became a villain because the old Loki still possessed a part of him. New Loki is also genderfluid so use they/them pronouns.
>>98240449The nonexistent powerful white cards will continue until morale improves
>>98240739nta but I almost exclusively play Arena nowadays, most of my regular friends moved on and my LGS is... a special place. I still go there every couple of months to pick up minis since the owner's a great guy, but I would never ever sit down to play MtG with the people there since they're all EDH spawns who genuinely don't understand how the game's rules work and think that "the stack" is an avoidable suggestion.Arena allows me to try out new cards without having to wait for the proxies to arrive, draft whenever I feel like and most importantly it comes with its own (very solid, to their credit) judge that makes sure that everything works the way it should; the only paper I play nowadays is when I meet up with a friend every once in a while and we fuck around with our old 2007-era precons and that's it.
>want to get back into paper standard>need to drop $200 on cubs for any green variant deckI know they won't ban Cub because it's the only thing still moving Avatar packs but I know the moment I decide to pay up they will emergency ban it to appease the izzetsissies

Me and a friend are doing a thing where we each opened a pack and we make a deck using one of the legendaries in that pack.Only rule is we can't buy any cards specifically for it. Has to all be made of stuff we own.I can't decide between Beast and Winter Soldier.
