I want to run a little experiment with this edition and see for how long I will be able to play the game before I'm so mind broken by the constant flood of errata and FAQs that I will have to other choice but to turn to Wahapedia.
I tried to read through the core rules in 40k App and it was a truly miserable experience. PDF rules are a bit better but they are already outdated so I will either have to constantly switch between the files or actually print them and add sticky notes with corresponding changes.
It is crazy to me that in our digital age GW still refuses to make a proper living rulebook app.

No it doesn't, and certainly not to aliens.
>>
>>98234403
Okay now what we have to figure out is if Orks are actually speaking english or if everything we hear them say is just some kind of magically translated alien language, in which case they might be using a gender neutral pronoun but due to the limitations of english it's translated as "he" because, to us english speakers, it's more accurate than "it" when referring to a person.
>>
Why is everyone saying that in 11e you roll the charge then pick your charge targets? The rule says the opposite
>>
>>98234340
it really doesn't, especially when the conflicts mankind is involved with don't stop at that one but include selfish expansionism, ideological genocides and senseless bureaucratic tragedies

next comes the part where you erroneously argue that all of that is utterly justified because it's impossible for mankind to do anything else and survive, which is not just unsupported, but largely proved wrong by other factions surviving by doing other things, like normal eldar, tau and votann

if then you were intellectually honest enough we would vault over the surface level accusation that those factions too commit atrocities and are also good themselves only by comparing to comically evil things, because you won't find me denying that at all, and we could have a discussion about how those factions can survive by avoiding some of the evil things the imperium does or has to do because they have to manage much smaller empires, to come to the conclusion that it is possible for mankind to survive by acting better than it currently does but it comes at the expense of the existing imperial infrastructure, and probably a loss of human lives in said collapse larger than any mankind has ever had before, perhaps combined

the final point of the conversation would be a question over whether the lives of those people matter more than mankind surviving at a moral high ground, but the answer would be paradoxical because by saying "yes" you're giving value to those people by supporting the very regime that does not try in the slightest to hide the fact that it does not give value to those people as anything other than assets to use and abuse, while by answering "no" we would circle back to humanity justifying its own existence and advancement by committing untold atrocities

if the conversation weren't railroaded by accusations of any kind then someone would ask the point of the conversation, which exists beyond the conversation ever having to take place: everyone is bad here

orks frequently make use of social constructs (which gender is) and words made by humans. pic related is 80% loan words. there’s really no reason to think they’d decide to pick up so many words including “boys” which is a masculine word, but then arbitrarily think “he” is too much for them to pick up.

Is it? Well I think Facebook own Instagram, so that could explain it.
But rest assured, it's from Instagram.
>>
>>98234443
Well if they're just borrowing words they've heard imperials saying then we can probably assume they just hear imperials call each other "he/him" (because their fighting force is overwhelmingly male) and figured that was just the word to use

An alien listening to human soldiers talk would reasonably assume "he/him" refers to other people and "it" refers to objects and if they have no concept of gender they'd never even think to ask if the pronoun was gendered, they'd just use it.

Unclear.
It got an upgrade sprue not too long ago and it won't feel particularly out of scale even after the other units get updated because the pilot would be far enough from the ground for a comparison to not be immediate, but it's also a notoriously unpopular design, many release waves do come with at least one centerpiece that would likely substitute this one, and it wouldn't be the first time gw has added an upgrade sprue to a kit only to remove that kit one or two years later.
If anything the upgrade sprue might have been a way to push as many of the old stock before the moulds are retired for good.

A proper grey knight dreadnought instead of a redesigned dreadknight is not an impossible scenario, many existing conversions already work around the dreadknight by enclosing the pilot, bashing the kit with a dreadnought, or starting from a dreadnought altogether, most recently with pretty popular results with the saturnine dreadnought.

So I've noticed that most of the "douchebag lists" have something in common. It's necrons with multiple either c'tan/obelisks, or knights with all the big ones, or like certain arrangements of tau with the same result, multiples of soulgrinders, etc. The common theme seems to be "skew" in the direction of having fewer units, but these very high toughness and high wound units that demand a certain type of weapon, so you can often just get lucky and your opponent doesn't have as many as he needs since he's playing a balanced list. It's this type of advantage right out of the gate before armies are even set up that seems to be the 40k "douchebag". It's not illegal, but it's obviously trying to take advantage of the people who are playing the game "normally" for lack of a better word.

So my question is, why don't they simply make this illegal? "Skew" just shouldn't exist in a well designed game, and plenty of games manage to reign it in. So how bad is it really in 40k? In an average tournament, how many people are "skewing"?
And a related question, how common is it for people to "skew" in the other direction, by having 300 infantry and nothing to aim the anti-tank guns you bought at? I've been thinking about it a lot recently, and the best 40k list in theory would probably be like 300 guardsmen, people are just prevented from doing this since you'd run out of time in a tournament and have carpel tunnel syndrome by the end of the event too.

I can’t stand how they’re being treated in the rules at the moment. They don’t do much and they require psychic babysitters to still really not do much. I want a proper wraith army but GW is so hyperfixated on selling aspect warriors and phoenix lords

>>
>>98234575
Correct, everyone with any "skew" direction has to fully commit to it for full advantage because reducing all armies to a few units (sans space marines) and no wargear or force organization leaves you only with that option, which makes the game into rock paper scissors. Oh you can't deal with 3 GUOs because your army lacks anti tank? I win. You can't hide from knights Towering with 11th rules? Guess what I can move 17" +3 " rotation and gain another 2" from my sword tip modeled at the exact angle to hit you in your dz and pin you turn 1. As someone who's been building Eldar on a budget, here how I approached it
>Pick a lane and stick with it. I went with a Wraithhost cause Iyanden has the coolest colorscheme and the Wraithlord model is sick. Look into the Craftworlds and figure out what vibe clicks with you the most.
>Avoid going all in on Aspect Warriors however - Yeah they're "Good" but Autarchs and Phoenix Lords are hella expensive in terms of models. If you want to include one unit of Fire Dragons or something in your army by all means go for it, but at your budget I don't think it's a good idea to full send on them.
>Hunt for ebay/marketplace deals. they don't come up often, but I got a chunk of my army (Wave Serpent/Falcons, Rangers, Warlocks, a few other things) for $170 off Facebook Marketplace last year.
>Try to see if you can snag any of the Eldar magazines from Combat Patrol on the cheap. You can get a small discount on some depending on where you're at.
>A good thing about Eldar being one of the oldest ranges in 40k is that you have plenty of old RT/2ED models floating around. No way in hell am I buying two Warlocks from GW for $60, but I'll sure as hell pay $15-20 for a pewter one from 30+ years ago.

Please ignore how few scenery pieces are set up, I'm still printing more.

I really do hope people will use scatter terrain beside the "obligatory" scenery you place on scenery footprints. I set up the 3 maps designed for Combat Patrol - and for 1000pts games I assume since separate maps for 1000pts were never published - and the table does feel empty.
Scenery footprints create a weird feeling of navigating your units through a maze so I will definitely paint mine to blend with my future gaming mat to prevent them from sticking out like a sore thumb.

Today the first official Game Workshop WH Store opened here in South Korea. It opened in the Gangnam neighborhood (yes the same place from Gangnam Style), which is where every franchise or company trying to break into the Korean market opens their flagship restaurant or store.

I didn't go cause there's no reason to ever enter a GW store aside from getting your free monthly welfare figure, and I knew it would be a shitshow. But I did hear about how it went down from other people.

They had a digital queue system where you signed up on your phone and got a text or call when it was your turn to go in. There queue got into the several hundreds and one guy said he showed up at 10:30 and got in at 4:30. They also didn't sell out of Armageddon which doesn't suprise me at all. They have limited stock shirts and keychains to celebrate the opening but I haven't seen them myself.

I honestly don't like that GW has their own prescence here. Back in 2023 there was one guy who ran a store in Seoul with an exclusive contract to import GW goods. He priced everything absurdly low at his own shop and because he was the middleman for the other numerous hobby and model stores around the country, those other stores had low prices too.

Back in 2023 I bought an AoS vanguard box for about 90 USD, and 10 intercessors cost around 42 USD if memory serves correctly.

Then GW terminated their contract in mid 2024 I believe, and prices went up while they still had huge stock and supply issues. They started dealing directly with the hobby stores and everything just turned to full price GW hedgemony.

We could see that writing on the wall that GW would soon open their own store and try to squeeze more money out of the country by taking a direct role in things. Thankfully the hobby scene is robust (mostly thanks to Gunpla, SW Legions, Marvel, and X-Men) that hobby stores survive without GW and stock paints from better brands.

I just miss buying plastic at a 30-35% discount

Maybe the prices the good shop guy was offering were not sustainable from a business point of view. Either that, or GW were deliberately low-selling kits to your bloke to put their foot in the door to see if things would sell in your area.
Once they discovered it would, they cut the contract and decided to set up shop themselves.
>le greed
Yes. GW is a business. A business exists to make money for it's own sake. It's not insulin or some other vital staple, it's unbuilt toys for middle-aged autists.

Don't know if it's worth it. Set is heavily discounted though.

All the skin on my left foot is peeling off for an unknown reason.
Is this the sign to start collecting Death Guard?
>>
>>98235240
>Yes. GW is a business. A business exists to make money for it's own sake.

Some people like to foster the illusion that toy or hobby companies are somehow their "friends". You see this with LEGO all the time too.

>So my question is, why don't they simply make this illegal? "Skew" just shouldn't exist in a well designed game, and plenty of games manage to reign it in. So how bad is it really in 40k?

It is because there is no body that manages organized play like Magic or other games with super successful tournament scenes have. The DCI while part of wizards of the coast was not really part of game design or sales and focused on just the organized play program. If you want this in warhammer then you need a bigger divorce between design, marketing, and sales. Warhammer needs a PERMANENT UNCHANGING set of core comprehensive rules that do not fundamentally change how the game is played every four years. GW wont do this because they need the churn of edition changes to maintain profits. There also needs to be some sort of judge certification and it needs to be controlled by GW organized play. You absolutely cannot allow third party orgs be in charge of shit like judges, with no certification process.
long story short, GW doesnt want this, they want the constant money from the churn. The whole model has to change and they dont want to

Should be plenty. You might want 2-3 different colors to combine different attack rolls to make the game a bit faster

40k cosplay can get really good, issue is that theres a lot of low effort stuff due to the influx of the wider audience so you end up with hambeasts etc

I was at a con last month and there was a guy in full kasrkin gear cooking in 30°c weather, and an older couple as a SoB and commissar which were actually really good
>>
>>98235528
30s usually enough. if a roll requires more than that you just roll, count the hits, then roll again as many as you need for the remainder. it wont get that high with most units unless its something like big swarms of orks or tyranids, or blast weapons firing into swarms that get a ton of extra shots
>>
>>98235519
It’s cosplay
It’s a hobby for losers
Just like 40K
Very few people here give a shit about presenting themselves well

Anyone else think it's stupid they forced every faction to have every type of primary disposition when some factions just aren't really well equipped to play some of these mission types? Some detachments and combos are just unplayable because they didn't get a disposition that works well for the army.

There will never be a better game that you playing with your friends and just house ruling, ignoring rules, and making things up for the rule of cool. Which is probably the way the game was originally intended to be played. After a really bad t1 where I fucked up almost every roll, we just agreed my BT buddy had 3x attacks to kill me faster and cooler.
