My job is DONE... for NOW>>98250250I wanna see Jacker and Lanna having a friendly rivalry. She's the starry-eyed hero that Jacker wishes he could be, and her optimism/naiveté kinda exhausts him, but he's very willing to teach her anything that might be useful from his travels. I can also see him being buddies with Oswyn, or at least Oswyn could be a good motivator for him. Noire and Abby are good little sister figures, and all three monster moms can have their own dynamics. I think Jacker would also think Cyrus is a self-important prick who takes things too seriously, and Varik would scare the crap out of him.

A denizen of the deep ended up far from safe waters by these unnatural tides. Saved by a wandering witchdoctor, Gaudiela's father would nurse her mother back to health. And she was eventually born from that bond of closeness. In her youth she stayed with her father when her mother answered the wider ocean's calling. Her father in his old age admitted on his deathbed that it was actually the ancient custom of her people for the dying to return to their ancestral home, so that their bones could rest with their ancestors. With the only clue to her mother's whereabouts being the arrangement of underwater-plants cultivated in her home lake. Gaudiela sets out river by river to find her way back to the sea. Where the rivers don't reach far enough, she floods them. People do what they want to the waters all the time after all. The damage caused to those living along the banks is of little concern to her. She is looking for where her mother went to pass on. In order to pay her respects and honor her father's dying wish. No matter who drowns in the process.
I wish there was an α β δ Ω progression for taming abilities, I want to tamermaxx and you just can't.
>>98250250If anyone wants a mentor/student dynamic Cyreina will mentor anyone willing to grow in their magical prowess. >>98249672Here's a rentry for future updateshttps://rentry.co/Cyreina
>>98250410You can do that tho. It's not a straightforward progression like that but you do have a series of taming powers. You have PARLAY unto TRAINER into either TYRANT or GIVER.
>>98250138The looks like a future victim with that pose
>>98250410>>98250515Taming is actually better than Summoning/Golems/Envoys, because you only need 1 power and you can already tame everything. It could be considered worse because maybe there just aren't that many powerful creatures that can be tamed in the world so it will never get to the level of the others, but that's kinda up to us as we aren't using the setting right?
>>98250515None of that actually makes your tamed monsters stronger and better in quality like golem, envoy, and summons. All you get is the ability to tame betterer and then to play around with Alpha and Giver.
>>98250551Because you don't need to. You can already tame everything, unlike the other powers that give you a cap Trainer can already tame everything that can be tamed.
>>98250548But consider: if you claim your build can achieve the same results as other people with massively less investment, people will (deservedly) shit on your build and ignore your wankery.
Taming ability is tied to your character's aura in the eyes of the thread.
>>98250562I mean, that's not my fault, it's the cyoa's fault for giving tamers such an unfair advantage. It's not like the cyoa is perfectly balanced, some powers are clearly better than others while costing the same or less.
>>98250558but it's lame and I want to be a tamermaxxed tamercelotherwise I'm just investing in strange slopements or something
>>98250574fuckin what
>>98250567Technically it's unclear, since it could just be the case that summons and golems have a much higher ceiling than monsters you can tame. If you look at taming that way, it's kinda shitty, but at least it stays usable. If you try to wank certain options to the moon, all it does is fuck over anyone interested in using them.
>>98250584ME NO CAN SPEND 10 POINTS ON TAMING GOODHAVE TO BUY OTHER THINGS
>>98250574Then take Giver and Tyrant. Or other shit that can make your tames stronger, there are many powers in the cyoa that can be used on others.
>>98250592>it could just be the case that summons and golems have a much higher ceiling than monsters you can tameI already aknowledged that in my first post about it, even saying that it's up to us if we aren't using the cyoa's setting as is. Taming is either underwhelming or overpowered, sadly there is no in between as things stand right now.Unless we set up gates and requirements that the cyoa doesn't give then it's also going to stay that way.
>>98250595did you even check how many options there areit's 6 points to clean it out
>>98250594Nta but, there are several other powers that can make you tame better, and I'm sure you can get to 10 points with those.
>>98250621like whatyeah you could bard or dance max or whatever but that doesn't actually increase the quality of the tamed monsters
>>98250613The right answer is probably to just treat it as weaker, but let people come up with creative ways to improve taming through other powers that can replace the lack of alpha/beta/delta/omega progression.
>>98250617It's 8 actually. Charm costs 2, Terror, Pheromones, Alpha, Trainer, Dominator, Giver. That's all the direct monster control abilities. That leaves 2 points.
>>98250617>>98250658It's equal investment to the full Elemental and godly progression so I think it's fair.
>>98250658tbf Pheromones is near useless dogshit so if you only invest in the good abilities its 5
>>98250682What a good example of goalposting.
>>98250690it's not wrong

>>98250682It could maybe combo into something like March. You erode enemy wills passively, opening them up to getting controlled, at which point you steal their power with Dominator and add it to your main beast with Giver. Basically lets you snowball as long as there's more enemies to conquer.
>>98250812Requires you actually getting into close range though, and it's literally just exude lmaoMay as well just save the point and invest into better knacks to charm instead
>>98250747Huh. I see, looks like it's a mix of Cyrenia and Noire.
I want Gula, Tyrant of Ezek to femdom me
>>98249672I'm stuck between a strange summoner that doesn't fight like a summoner and a more straightforward battlemage. I have a couple of faceclaims that could fit, and I don't want to make just another weapon guy.
>>98249672I just noticed, there is no weapon specialization. It's all or nothing. Can we assume our character is good with 1 type of weapon or do we need Weaponmaster for any weapon build?
>>98250977We have a few of both archetypes now, so I'd go with battlemage. Depending on what you mean by that, I feel there's more ways to customize a battlemage through element focus and spell types to set yourself apart.
>>98249672You guys need to stop using 3 letters for your power selections.Just write the power names. It's not that hard.
>>98250250Rivalry: Her general lack of consideration for others and a touch of haughtiness means she'll likely clash with Eurayle and Cyrus even more than others. Maybe not worthy of being called rivalry, but there's got to be something especially annoying about having to explain why you're offended to someone who genuinely doesn't know what they did wrong or why it would upset you.Bromance: I could see Noire appealing to Abby's more curious side and roping her into things that help her see the world as more than a charcuterie board. Also, her stomach may not clock Noire as something to eat since she's already been 'consumed' in a sense, so any bites Abby tries to sneak would be purely out of curiosity.Mentor/student: Abby may count as a mage, but she approaches combat wanting to claw and bite. I said before she'd have some affinity for Bram, and she'd likely start copying the way he fights, being feral and sloppy until he steps in to correct her.
>>98250409Why are all demihumans so fucking evil?
>>98250778If you take TA HEIRA you can afflict people with elements/truths to get around it. Of course thats a Blue I think so not really a greenmaxxer thing
>>98251136Shut up fangboy
>>98251053They would be very similar anyway. My problem would be exactly with what elements to go with, I would like to make a combination of elements but the base power doesn't allow it. Technically you can do it, but not with our budget, Meld Casting does allow you to become a double elemental, because it calls it a spell, but we don't have the points for it. I may need to find another faceclaim, but maybe I can make thi one work even if it's not 100% fitting. Now that I look at the builds better it may even be an unused element.
>>98251305Yeah, I wanted to go for two elements but it's just not practical.
>>98251305>>98251315If we do away with the notion that we will never ever progress, couldn't you just start with both and have the combination be a goal for your character to pursue?
>>98251375If we do progression my idea for the summoner version is more suited for it conceptually. But I guess it does work, it would have to be in the opposite order lore wise tho. Because the thing that attunes you to an element is a spell that you slowly perfect, so you would need to first get to Meld casting, which is an odreal in itself for us, and then slowly attune yourself to your newly created dual element.
>>98249672Do we get fighting style powers?
>>98251432No, it was decided that we don't. We get more base points to compensate, but 2 styles specifically get fucked by this because they would give 7 points instead of 6.
>>98249672Just to be clear, Blood Magic here is just using HP as MP and not Hemokinesis right?
Rolled 2 (1d3)1. boy2. girl3. anon decides
>>98251478Another waifu build incoming
>>98250250Eurayle will be attempting to drill the entire party into shape in an almost militaristic fashion. She'll be trying to whip even stronger warriors into being more disciplined or, more passively, just making sure people keep their equipment repaired, do their daily exercises and other conditioning to get them to work together. Given her past and general abrasiveness I presume it's not going to work very well and some of the characters will straight up reject it, but still. If we ever have retainers or weaker/unimportant NPCs join the company she'll double take it upon herself to train them for war.
>>98249672It's very funny to me that this was supposed to be "lower power" yet most builds can instantly kill each other and 90% of threats with no counterplay
>>98251520It would've been even worse had we used our usual 15/15 but generally I think we picked 16/10 as a middle ground between the two camps, not everyone wanted low power. That probably is where the confusion with the original premise comes from though, you essentially can't build anything that's not either some nightmare magic monster, incarnate god or super polymath with 16/10.
>>98251520>>98251538I would not have tolerated reducing the power further. It's already annoying as is.
>>98251538>>98251547I would also very much prefer 15/15 but I can barely work with this.
>>98251568>>98251547Why do you guys need so badly to be unkillable gods?
>>98251826Because you are lame and I/we are not.
>>98251830>your needs are dictated by the tastes of other menbro...
>>98251826Why do you think that 15/15 automatically means that everyone is an unkillable god? That's not the goal here.
>>98249672Do we have someone who could kill a person with Lazarus? Stuff like STA;(MUNG) Strange Element: Death. Would they be willing to make a character with Lazarus join the party through blackmail using a threat of killing them, or alternatively, make a deal using a promise of killing them?
>>98251945My wip build has dominator + some boosts to it, depending on your view you might say that could kill them by draining them to a powerless husk and literally removing the power, sidestepping the requirements. It's at least plausible for both of them to believe, even if it wouldn't work. They're also evil enough to really want that to happen. Of course they're pretty self-serving and I don't know if they'll be part of the hero party because I have to bullshit them into playing nice so they can interact with builds or if we're actually doing the villain party.
>>98250250Outside of generally being a little sister character for most builds... Noire could certainly use a magic teacher specifically. Currently she's just doing what comes naturally and has a lot of room left to improve even within the powers she has, and Cyreina filling that role could be pretty interesting. The old lady is more advanced as a master of her element, and she trained for it her whole life unlike Noire. Plus Cyreina might be interested in the more exotic elements that Noire uses. For bromances... sismances? Whatever you'd call it, Lanna and Abbadon are the frontrunners there. Both are people that are likely to get pulled into troublemaking with Noire, just for different reasons. For rivalries, I imagine it'd need to be the more ruthless and bloody party members, where Noire keeps cutting in and trying to stop them from killing, leading to friction. Could be Euryale, but she's probably too level-headed to have it devolve into a rivalry. Maybe Cyrus or Thayne?>>98251945Noire has Void magic, which is one of the three main ways to kill someone with Lazarus, she's not bloodthirsty enough nor devious enough for that though, so not a good fit.Maybe Madge? She's got Death status, and she'd be more the type. Abbadon also has void magic and I could certainly see someone using her as an attack dog of sorts. "Do what I say, or this girl will eat you and reduce your body and soul to the void."
>>98251945What if he's eaten? Does he reform from the poop?
>>98252041clearly he reforms inside the bowels
>>98252041some of his flesh would survive and he'd reform from within the poo if the stomach that ate him was strong enough to dissolve him and he couldn't escape I guess
>>98251981>dominatorI'm blind and I can't find it. But it it's draining power and they're evil, then if forms the question in me: "why would they want the Lazarus to work for them instead of just stealing the power? What's the benefit?">>98251998I guess in Noire's case, she'd have to be nudged toward that by another character, but I feel like it could work with the variant where death is a promised reward if it's presented in some euphemistic way ("this will be their chance to rejoin their family" or something like that).Madge does seem like she'd work, but I think I'll have to catch up a bit more to get a clearer picture. The skills certainly are there, but the idea also brings a third party into that, and her outlook on other demihumans makes it more complicated.
>>98251945Madge has Mung and Infect (though she might do it with Dance) so she could do it, but she wouldn't blackmail someone to join the party (too dangerous, if it was Fated they would join anyways); she would do the deal with a promise of killing them because she has no qualms about killing people and the Party would be getting something.
>>98252074>But it it's draining power and they're evil, then if forms the question in me: "why would they want the Lazarus to work for them instead of just stealing the power? What's the benefit?"Same reason any asshole in fiction who thinks like they do has minions, like Yhwach from Bleach. It's more convenient to have more hands, you can drain them later. Also they would need to think of a cover story about Mr Lazurus being evil if they join the hero party because doing that to random nice people is probably frowned upon.
>>98252074It's possible, yeah. If erasing him is something he wants for his own good, then it's possible to push Noire into it.Seems like it being a deal in that way is overall easier to work with. Madge seems on board with it in the other reply. Probably can work with Abaddon too, and it becomes a two-way promise. The Lazarus user gets to die, and Abaddon gets to sink her teeth into something interesting.
I know we have the evil mermaid and I've seen interest in an evil party (including my own) so maybe I'll pivot into going full evil based on what anons think. Thoughts?>>98249672Greedhttps://rentry.co/q6stki8b
>>98252177Rival and evil groups do technically exists in traditional rpgs, sure. But I don't think we've finalized the dark lord of this story yet and his motivations which would help bulk up the evil party a bit.
>>98250250Rivalrys: Bram really hates that Cyrus prick, and will constantly do things to annoy him. Any chance he gets to put down the arrogant shit he will take, damned useless lightbulb. Bromances: He enjoys pestering the Wanders for fights, usually for Varik and Constance's summons and to teach them all a thing or two about BRAWLIN. Thayne too, cuz he can take a couple of his punches well. What a lad!Students: Beef jerky and Eurayle seem to have fun sparring with him, so he in turns imparts some incredible truths about fighting. Their pain tolerance will increase by leaps and bounds! Really he's willing to teach anyone, even mages provided they are not annoying. To Abbadon, he enjoys talking about their hunger as she is similar to him in a way.
>>98252177Finally a slugger Bram can smash his head against, even if they're also a minion cuck
>>98250250>rivalriesVarik isn't the type to cause conflict on paper, being rather polite and quiet. That said, his thoughts and intentions are often difficult to read, which can cause him to come off as insincere and untrustworthy to especially forward types. There's also just something about Varik that many find unsettling, even if they can't really put their finger on why. Beyond that, his time as an adventurer and Alkian knight may have earned him some enemies. There's also the fact that he's literally called The Betrayer. Not exactly rivalries, but there are plenty of reasons for others to take issue with him.>bromancesI'm not sure if someone in the cast fits yet, but maybe your stereotypical boisterous shonen protagonist or Big Guy who ignores the alarm bells and takes a liking to Varik for whatever reason. Speaking of>mentor/student dynamicsVarik may see elements of the late Emperor in some of the younger adventurers. Like the man's unwavering faith in others when he sees Lanna, his idealism in Oswin, or his boundless luck in Jacker. But due to Varik's taciturn and evasive nature, he isn't one to go out of his way to make connections like that. He will politely offer advice or instruction when asked, or quickly correct something in the moment when critical, but that's likely the most you'll get for now. That said, there is a lot to learn from Varik through osmosis in the heat of combat, as his role within a party naturally results in him dictating the flow of battle. He has experience leading seasoned squads of men, and his foresight and tactical acumen are hard to best. He is also extremely comfortable with violence, perhaps overly so.He'd be a very patient mentor in theory, and proved to be a great pupil during his time as the Team Kid years ago.>>98250283Thank you anon, very cool!
>>98252266ngl, he's more chill than I expected.
>>98252238Varik doesn't actually have a lot of summons and they're fairly weak. If you asked him to explain the secrets of spirits, contracts, and worldwalking, his insights might not even match a middling summoner. He did not learn these lessons the same way a Spirit Talker would, so he has large gaps in his knowledge and what he can do.
>>98252332You have "SUMMON_Ω" which summons whatever pylons are that are something an experience hero party would be hard pressed to defeat, I was going off that reallybut fairs
>>98252343Don't worry about that.
So out of all our minion spammers, who's the scariest to deal with?
>>98252455the ones that pull a https://youtube.com/watch?v=fH3X2U9t2P0&t=808 after you beat their minionsI think the new girl does but I also think we have summoners who can do this
