working on the new captain. It's an imperial fist

I need some color suggestions for the scabbards and leather skirt.

The mini sword and the skirt are right on top of each other so I'm having trouble differentiating them and keeping a coherent color scheme.

I'm thinking of doing a dark red working up to khorne red for the cape. As for the metal decorations, the armor is already very warm and yellow so gold seems odd but silver might be worse so I'm kind of stuck.
I need your help anons.

They can be a good “bridge” to allow Horus heresy stuff into 40k usage but gw doesn’t seem to like crossover between hh and 40k unless conversions it seems.

I agree something like this should have had more going on with the entire set to hype it up. This should have been like Into the Dark where it had some cool tropical terrain included and the Orks weren't just unsellable leftover Snagga stock - it could have still been Snaggas, but something new.

don't care, I just want more Exodites.

The rumor was that we'd get a Kill Team and then an army release. I kinda assumed the Kill Team was going to be infantry. But we're getting the cavalry. That makes me think maybe there won't be any infantry, it'll be all mounted. How sweet would that be?

Kill Team has true freedom right now, and you can see them being rewarded with their units consistently having good stats in 40k and not getting thrown into Legends or some shit. I think just about every Admech player that's been winning in tournaments over the last few months has had one or two battleclades in their list.
>>
I'm going to buy all the terrain and the mat and all that stuff. I'm going to have a nice looking table.

I've been playing for a long time and have made a few terrain pieces over the years which have worked fine. Painting plastic cut shapes is easy and works, and I even have an old lego diorama thing that works surprisingly well. But it'll be nice to have official looking stuff well painted.

>>98268255
coolest part is that its the same size as the old trukk, so you can use both and mek them up together
>>
>>98268255
Cautiously optimistic. The things I'm seeing that I like:

>overall a fun silhouette, evokes the 4th edition trukk while not copying it directly, making any existing trukks just add to the variety of your fleet
>some built in built variety in the placement of the weapons being swappable between left and right
>the bit about the front of the chassis being poseable implies that like the 4th edition trukk, the entire chassis builds separate from the flatbed and cab, which means the thing is just as flexible for doing custom work around
>grabbin' klaw is cool, finally having model support for rokkit trucks is cool

Things I don't like:

>the saw is lame, I would have rather had the wrecking ball back
>tires do not look mean enough, need some armor plates or spikes
>I both like and dislike how chunky the armor plating is, leaning more towards dislike, and I'm not that keen on the alternate bumper decorations

Overall I think it's a win.

Its a reference to the 2nd edition codex. In order to take boarboyz on cyboars you took a Snakebite mob and added boars and cyboars as wargear. And you always took cyboars over boars because for seven extra ppm you get 3" movement, a point of strength, an extra attack and the big red button.

Snakebites weren't the "primitive" orks they were the "simple" orks. They still used bolters and boltpistols they just didn't make them flashy like the Bad Moons did.

What's really funny is rereading the rules you could have a boar boy with a multimelta.

Some of the 1DP choices for dark angels and blood angels are pretty good, but the three 1DP choices for generic marines/ultras/ironhands/etc are pretty lame. And this matters since marines have a lot of good 2DP.

SoB got a couple good 1DP choices, but that matters less since they're often taking the two good options they have which are both 3DP.

I didn't even look at the ones for guard since I play grizzled every time.

I wish there was a way to spend points, or take certain units, that would give you like +1DP, so you could take two 2DP options, or like one 3DP and one 1DP options.

they're still the best coloured metallics available with super fine metal flakes and some great hues. the learning curve is massively overstated and was more noticeable with their super matte paints which could be pretty frustrating trying to get solid base coats. those are feeling their age, but I still use some.

the only thing to keep in mind is the "alchemy" metallics have to be layered over darker shades (decayed metal, necro gold etc.) because they cover terribly on their own. I use decayed metal>moonstone alchemy>speed metal for my warm golds and it shines like nothing else I've tried irl.

Tauren were literally just classic fantasy minotaurs and were savage bloodthirsty warriors
This is fine.
Tauren were hippy cows. This is the start of furfaggotry in Warcraft.
However it was contained to just one anthro race so it was tolerable. Adding playable Worgen and Pandas tipped the scales and attracted too much furfaggotry and ruined warcraft

Chaos in 40k is pretty flanderised and all of them suffer from 'does what it says on the tin' and not bothering to really delve deeper. Fantasy was similar and was only really redemmed by the Liber Chaotica. Which is fantastic btw I nabbed a hardback copy of it back when GW was selling them. SO much cool stuff in there, new types of god specific deamons, Tzeentch has a long limbed pig head daemons that are like wendigos in that they trakc enemies down and tear them apart in ambushes. Lots of cool little stories like this.
One I'm fond of is the Khornate gravekeepers. Only men with long beards in cloaks who have pilgrim circuits of that great battle dedicated to khorne and the monoliths chaos worshippers built to honour the battle and the dead. They are like tour guides or khornate elders for younger khorne followers letting them know of great champions and battles, while also being utterly vicious warrior who add to the 'honours' the monolith marks if anyone tries to rob them or dishonour the graveyards they wander

>>98268869
the version first test-screened was 18 minutes longer, almost all of which was straight horror content.
>>
>>98268869
>>98268877
maybe a controversial opinion but i actually think cutting the content helped the film.

the shorter runtime kept the movie lean and fast paced, the last thing you want to do is stall out a horror movie with excessive runtime. and by only showing brief glimpses of the hell dimension and torture stuff it left more to the imagination, whereas if they fully went into a 20 minute gorefest it might have felt overdone and not really left you with that sense that you got a peek through a crack in a horrible door.

sometimes less is more, and i think event horizon is probably one of those cases. like imagine the movie the thing, if they just fully let you see the monster in its true form for 20 minutes at the end. it would have ruined the creature and the mystery, it almost did for the prequelsequel in 2011 at the final space ship scene.
>>
>>98268869

Technically speaking they are - but look at the Krieg Veteran Kill Team - it also evolved into an entire range. I doubt any Eldar will get that treatment, but if this team turns out to be really, really (really) popular, they might add one or two more Exodites units to 40k in the long run.

I've listened to some AoS audiobooks during lengthy car travels. Its possible to have interesting stories within the setting, but its just too vast, too big and everything is too arbitrary. All those stories work on their own - but the world building they do, never matter to anything else.

That said, Dark Harvest is a great book, and Saviours of Cinderfall is a enjoyable too.

I have given it a chance and every single word I read from Shitmar lore makes me more and more bored to tears. Even the writers clearly aren't interested

And it's the same every time with you fags, you just post some pic of a big explosion wide landscape.
That's all you have because the lore is boring and the character designs are for the most part shit, so you fall back on landscapes as if that would somehow make me interested in a WARGAMES setting

aos is more like 40k than it is like fantasy. you dont want to try to look at a whole realm at once any more than you'd want to try to look at a whole arm of the milky way spiral for 40ks narrative. you zoom in on specific locations like the cities of sigmar, skyports, vampire or flesh eater keeps, and then invest in the local stories therein, like how 40k zooms in to worlds like armageddon, necromunda, cadia, etc rather than just trying to big picture the whole setting at once. fantasy by contrast can do macro scale zoomouts and still have context because at its absolute largest it only encompases a single planet and most faction to faction conflicts only range across a small countryside or national border. but age of sigmar isnt that, its not your trade routes and muddy peasants fantasy, its very high fantasy clash of the gods type stuff, and i think some people just expect the wrong thing of it.

but the answer is most definitely NOT to just make it fantasy 2.0

I still think the end times was corporate ordered so the writers didn’t have much to work with. And we’re pressed for time.
That said I’m not sure how age of sigmar is doing right now.
I did find the kharadron overlords nice looking because I’m a hopeless steampunk fan. Though I would bring 40k autism and make the dwarf infantry humans instead.

I have a feeling the destruction of cadia was meant to have the warp destroy all of the galaxy to aos the 40k setting. As odd as it sounds.
>>
>>98268992
I do buy 40k minis and I like the look of a fair few Old World ones, but TOW is only half a wargame and Shitmar is shit (and also missing some TOW exclusive minis).

GW could solve this by merging them. TOW gets a full range and a ruleset that can appeal to anyone (or play the TOW rules if you want). Shitmar gets a full range and a setting people give a shit about.

>but age of sigmar isnt that, its not your trade routes and muddy peasants fantasy, its very high fantasy clash of the gods type stuff, and i think some people just expect the wrong thing of it.

The "problem" is, that some novels describe exactly this type of narratives. They are gritty, they are super small scale. That works, just how it worked in Warhammer Fantasy, (and it also works in 40k in many cases), but it clashes with the bigger picture of AoS more, than it does with 40k.
In 40k, you know there is the warp and the space ships for travel, and that there are countless planets. In AoS those things exist in a way too (realmgates and stuff), but they are often not even mentioned in those books. Dark Harvest for example does mention Stormcasts once.. because there is a rumor that one of the characters actually killed one of them once. And thats it. If you leave out this little piece of info, replace some town names, the entire story could happen somewhere in the hinterlands of Nuln, or some other Empire province and the whole story is about a backwater town, a cult and some mystery.
40k does it better, because even if a novel is not about big battles, or Marines, there still is common technology, means of communication etc, which make it very clear that its within the 40k universe. With AoS, that sometimes is just not the case. (and this can be a good thing to some, but not to everyone)

i've tried to re-engage with fantasy since the old world reboot and some of the new models look decent, but the old world community is just as miserable today as the warhammer fantasy community was when i tried to get into the game in 2005. nothing but salty sneering greasy grogs who dont have a single positive word to say about anything and treat their "a guy drank a beer here once so its called beer hill" ass setting as some kind of sacred deep lore. one of the worst communities in all of wargaming.

space skaven would exist on ships and space hulks like a shadowy threat to space travellers, killing crews

They could also have space skaven invasions where the reported small sightings are just the tip of the iceberg.
And suddenly out of nowhere entire Imperial worlds get swamped by space rats and then they disappear. It then becomes a theory in the Imperium like in WFB

I gave away my warcry kharadron kit but kept the tokens and cards.
And an arkonauts box.
I might look into finding stl remakes but then again the models look deliberately fiddly by design to easily break if printed in 3d resin.
This doesn’t change that a good number of aos models have so much fragile shit like they aren’t made to be structurally stable wargaming pieces. They certainly wouldn’t survive falling off tabletop height.

I will admit that I might revisit kharadron if human stls of the dwarves but as humans are found.

I have the Jakob bugmanssen Christmas model. Two actually.
Might sell them if I can find an accurate scan of the pieces for printing.

try ABS like resin, its got a bit of flex to it. makes it slightly more annoying to remove supports but its way more durable and doesnt shatter like normal UV photoresin. still works the same, same cure settings, holds the same detail. i dont even remember it being any more expensive really, maybe a few dollars a bottle.

Most of the loyalist shit isn't that interesting or needed.
Phobos kill team upgrade is meh.
Scouts are ok, but they are scouts so who cares + scouts were originally revealed with the BT refresh anyway.
SW phobos were also just meh and not needed.
Gacha primaris set was just regular intercessor shit + 1 gravis + 1 captain.

Deathwatch is the only thing that look cool, were needed and worth a damn to come to loyalist marines in 40k.
1/5 thing being cool and needed isn't that good.

No, the Necrontyr were actually tainted ancient humans (look at C'tan prison bodies)
The Old ones actually did gave them a solution for their illnesses, but the price was to renounce their ways. Those who accepted became the first Eldar (Hence why they're so human-like)
The bitter necrontyr doubled down and eventually the War On Heaven was fought.
After biotransference and the whole mess, the Silent King wiped out/rewrote the necrons memories.

Modern humans are either a runaway offshoot of the Old Ones experiments for the Necrontry/Necron old plan to get new bodies.

This is partially my headcanon, but otherwise the best explanation for all we know about those especie, incluing many cultural and phisical similarities (like the egyptian stuff everywhere)
>>
>>98269583
>but otherwise the best explanation for all we know about those especie
the easiest answer is that the old ones made the necrontyr too and it just so happen that they used the humanoid template a lot, the same way they reused the same planetary template and ingrained similar cultures, which is already canon

The problem with every "X are actually Necrontyr" is that none of these races existed 60 million years ago.

Aspect Shrines are a post-Fall Craftworld innovation, after the Exodites had already left. That said, it's not as if the Exodites haven't had millennia of interaction with Craftworlders, especially Aspect-heavy Biel-tan, over which to be sold on the idea and create their own Shrines.

GW hates young men with a burning passion and holds the view any human male x elf female romance that might appeal to men is anathema and must be stopped at all costs in their IP.
You've seen it with Yrliet which is a process designed to demoralize and humiliate young men prusuing her: No matter what you do, how kind you are, what heroics you accomplish, how much you help her and her people, you will always be garbage, because you are a human male. She will never treat you as an equal, despite saying she would in her final scene, she would not have any of these restrictions with an Eldar, she is still fundamentally replused by you.
In contrast GW continues the racevait pseudo-blacked messaging where thr only elf x human pairing is elven men fucking human women with Marazhai..where the male elf (not so subtly DARK Eldar) gets to ravage the human woman despite being a depraved torturer and psycho that is completely unrepentant and openly indulges in evil. Signaling that no matter how good/succesful the white (we all know the main demographic of 40K) human male is, he is still trash and the woman would take the dreg of society elven pseudo-bbc over the top human male.
To top it off Yrliet ends up partnered and forms an implied to be romantic bond with Marazhai - the Eldar who participated in the slaughter of her people and had her tortured..even that type of hated Dark Eldar that personally wronged her is preferable to one of the most virtuous and heroic humans she ever met.
This is replicated in fantasy as well, as elven women are disgusted by human men seeing them as monkeys, but an incel reject of elven society Teclis gets to easily fuck high status human women.
So seeing this if we get another female Eldar that is romancable GW will ensure that the "romance" comes with layers of similar humiliation, no actual romance, just a setup and fall.

Not any eldar who's on a maiden world is an exodite, if crafworlds have colonies on maiden worlds, then those colonies follow the craftworlds' culture, not the exodites, and the aspect warriors would be craftworlders' aspect warriors, and not exodite "aspect warriors".

at best you can have exodites who abandon their society to join a craftworld and enter the path system, then becoming aspect warriors, but they wouldn't be "exodite aspect warriors" any more than a dark eldar wytch who used to be a craftworld ranger is a "dark eldar ranger"

I'd guess because KT is a good place to throw things without existing factions, like imperial navy, arbites, etc.

To be fair they're changing the kill team formula for some reason, so now anything can be kill team. They could release bjorn the fellhand in killteam. I suppose it's so GW can be lazier.

It doesn't matter to them what "fits" into kill-team anymore.
People said jump packs don't fit kill-team and they did it anyway.
People said monsters don't fit kill-team and they did it anyway.
People said mounted don't fit kill-team and they did it anyway.
We're one vehicle short of having literally anything able to be a kill-team release now.

Hello tg Warhammer 40k. I picked up the hobby today after playing the Rogue Trader video game. I was really impressed with the universe and lore from the game and the boardgame looked interesting too, so today I picked up the box set the GW representative told me about. From what I understand its a new edition as well so it’s the perfect time to start? Not sure where I should begin between the Space Marines and Orks.
I hope Rogue Trader gets an Ork companion for the last DLC at least. Hope I have enough paint with the starter set.

So from a gameplay standpoint, all of the Exodites will be Mounted as a baseline, making them interact with Windrider Host innately. They'll also all benefit from Warhost as the generalist faction.
>Stonesinger
Psyker. Can benefit from Seer Council, Spirit Host, and oddly enough can use the Enhancements from Armoured Warhost, one of which will give them Lone Op. Will likely be a more durable but less mobile Farseer Skyrunner. Will almost certainly be the most valuable of the new characters for various reasons.
>Leystalker
Maybe Ranger. Therefore only benefits, potentially, from Path Of The Outcast. Probably has Stealth and Lone Op as baseline, along with a Precision weapon.
>Clanblade
Potentially Autarch or Aspect Warrior? As such only really benefits uniquely from Aspect Host. Probably the designated Dragon Knights leader model to provide Charge boosts, otherwise a normal Melee blender.
>Dragon Knights
Most likely Aspect Warriors, already confirmed to havr the same weapon profile as Shining Spears, will likely also get some Extra Attacks and maybe extra Wounds or Toughness at the cost of no Flying.
Even if the Clanblade and Dragon Knights don't get Aspect Warrior, they'll still have potential uses in the non-niche Detachments. Unless the Stonesinger has a genuinely terrible profile, they're absolutely going to see use in almost all Eldar armies.
>>
>>98271099
only space marines get millions of subcodexes for 8 unique datasheets.
>>

nta, but I think the problem with Snaggas is their offputting official paint scheme.

>>
>>98271106
Dragon Knights/Masters being aspects would kind of miss the cultural distinction from exodites existing outside of the 'paths' system that corsairs, rangers, ynnari and craftworlders find themselves innately tied to. Exodites are more likely Harlequins in that they have their own separate thing grafted onto the craftworld codex because Codex: Other Eldar is too hard for GW to fathom.

If we go by how Corsairs were treated then they'll have their own Exodite keyword while keeping the broader Asuryani faction keyword, so they SHOULD still be able to benefit from most everything as usual.

Alien Mercenaries
Hrud, not because I would play them but because they always seem to exist as aliens that get mentioned here and there attacking imperial worlds and being at least a tau level threat but they've always been in the background
Q'orl could also be like that, but they haven't been mentioned recently
Dark Mech+traitor guard+mutants as part of a Lost and the Damned codex

Besides checking out some resources on how to paint you're free to do whatever. Try not to buy other boxes at retail price if you're able to, and don't be afraid to just homebrew your own chapter or warband.

There *is* an ork skull nebula thing on the star map so you have decent odds of getting something like a freebooter as a future companion. Could probably use Ulfar's 2x2 square rules as well.
