A lot, but not as much as you'd think. I've been playing since the game launched and just never quit. The cards were much cheaper back in the day.
These days, however, my decks and collection are worth an obscene amount of money. Picrel, for example, is my SWK Rush deck (almost perfectly foiled out and first edition) at the start of a game.

Don't know if they changed the rules up for any of their games recently, but it made Naruto an actually good game back then. That game was a major fuckup on release though. Gundam seems too standard to merit an on the fly overhaul or benefit from one.

As far as I can tell, not really.
It's got impressive power + double breaker for its cheap cost, but it puts you closer to death, so it's a very risky play.
If you play it turn 3, the speed attacker/slayer thing will happen turn 4 at earliest (you've lost 2 shields from its effect + you finally attack with it for a double break on your opponent, assuming they don't block).
The free cost 4 thing on attack will happen even later than that, when either your opponent or you are one hit away from death anyway.
Basically it doesn't do a whole lot unless played in the late game, where it being cheap barely matters because there are probably stronger options that you have the mana for.

It seems like it would specifically only be good within its archetype (intentionally killing your own shields for some benefit). That archetype isn't very relevant right now; I think it has been in the past, and it might be more relevant in the future with more support. For context, that card was released in a yearly set that usually releases new support cards for older archetypes.

There are three main formats played competitively. Two of them are eternal formats (use any card minus bans): Original and Advance. The difference between those two is whether they allow extra deck zones (super GR and hyperspatial).
The other one is 2-Block Constructed, which only allows cards that have been printed in the two most recent blocks (years worth of cards). Cards count as being part of the block if they have the block icon in the bottom right. Usually this is just core sets (RP) and not extra sets (EX) but there are some exceptions.

To qualify for the biggest Duema tournament in Japan (全国大会, translated to "National Tournament" I guess), players have to win their regional tournament (or just place high, I don't remember). The regional tournaments and smaller store tournaments to qualify for the regional are usually 2-Block Constructed, while the National Tournament itself is Original and Advance. So basically to be a top pro Duema player, you need to both be good at 2-Block for your regionals and eternal formats to actually win the big tourney.

What's an example of a card that's still relevant in eternal? From playing these old shovelware games it really doesn't look like DuelMa has any equivalent of MTG's power nine. Holy Awe is the only one I see potentially being close but it being a 6 drop seems like it'd disqualify it from anything relevant unless mana ramp got good over the decades.

There's the hyperspatial zone which is 8 double-faced cards that you can play through the effects of regular cards (eg. effects that say something like "put [into the battle zone] a creature from your hyperspatial zone that costs 5 or less"). It was introduced in 2010 and has had decent support over the years.
There's also the super GR (gacharange) zone which is 12 face-down cards (GR creatures) that you summon through cards that tell you to "GR summon", where you just flip over the top of the GR zone deck, summoning that creature. It's from 2019 and apparently was pretty unbalanced when it was first introduced. It doesn't get much support.

For actual English cards, all I can think of is Faerie Life as a simple ramp spell. There are some power crept sidegrades (Faerie Re:Life, Mendelssohn) but I think the original still sees use.

If English Duel Masters lasted just one more year, it would have had Heaven's Gate (pic related). Heaven's Gate has entire archetypes built around it that still continue to be relevant today. I see Heaven's Gate as a sort of "power level benchmark" by the DM developers. It's a very powerful spell and effect, and it almost defined the modern meta of almost every deck trying to cheat out big creatures early, but I find it interesting that no other card or effect that does a similar thing to Heaven's Gate is ever more powerful than Heaven's Gate (for the same cost); at best they're a sidegrade. Like even though power creep is always gonna be a thing, Heaven's Gate sets a hard limit on power creep at least for shield triggers and "putting creatures for free" effects.

So I bought the Proving Grounds box for Riftbound to play with 2 other friends and we found it pretty fun.
We want to continue playing it but very casual like while building other decks and we have two paths we can take it
Should I make all the later decks the same power level as the decks on the box (decks are semi inconsistent and have vanilla creatures and some just straight up shit cards) or should I upgrade the 4 decks it came with (decks still won't be over $30-$40) and then use that as the new standard to make them all more consistent?
Basically is this game more fun with kitchen table shit or when the decks can more consistently so what their gameplay is?

If that's the case then it's kinda fucked both ways right? If I build, say, a Zed or Poppy deck and make them the same power level as the proving grounds deck, the Yi deck will still straight up be better?
But at the same time if I upgrade the proving ground decks by say adding an orange Fiora or a Twisted Fate to Annie or a Viktor to Garden, then the Yi deck will still dominate even though the other decks have more tools to do their thing?

It's different when there's classes that get pampered and rewarded if they block, or they get an entire second hand and free resources to play with. Besides that there's ranger that if they don't shoot tall arrows every single turn, with debilitating effects, and must also go wide to get around their blocks or minions, all while having enough resources to buff, load, draw and or pay high costs, then they fall behind in the race to knockout. Literal worst class in the game, and as you can see, it's because they're the most fiddly of any of the others. Fab's fucked, I say.

You can cheat against your friends if you want kek. Annie is a good deck btw (Twisted Fate isn’t played in it the card isn’t good) but 3 Kaisa is mandatory to get some card draw.
A 2 cost unit in Yi trades with a 4 drop, a 4 drop with a 6 drop. Unless the Yi is made unplayable (no T1, T2, no discipline/en garde) I don’t see how a deck made of bulk cards can beat it no matter the legend.

I've played a little bit of the PS2 one and it seems pretty cool. It's basically just the same era of cards as the English games though (I think around DM-12 or something).
It would have been cool if they made more games for later eras, but instead there's just the mobile gacha game, which unfortunately is a mobile gacha game.

I'm still working on The Condemned, just not nearly as much until I can get more income coming in. I'm focusing on local game stores for the time being and local conventions. Claim: Mine Rush has been published and shipped, and now I'm working on another card game. It's entered in the Indie Showcase at 2D Con next month. I'm hoping to get some publisher attention there, maybe an award or two. It's called Boshin Sensou, and it's named after the Japanese civil war of the same name. The goal was to capture the soul of an RTS in a Magic-lite format. It's not an ACG, it's more of a board game that just happens to use cards. Picrel, one of the cards.

If you were at Origins in June, there's a non-zero chance we crossed paths. I was there with Speedrobo Games, selling the Claim: Mine Rush game I mentioned above. They also launched a magical girl Duel Masters-style game called The Caster Chronicles. If you're looking for new acgs, this might be up your alley. The Japanese name for the game literally translates to "Magical Girl Duels". I met one of the Japanese devs at Origins. She's good people.

The only thing I can realistically trademark is the logo. I can claim copyright on the artwork I commissioned, but trademarking artwork is silly and frightfully expensive. Once I had a logo and was ready for marketing, that was the point in time where I trademarked the logo. Could I have done so earlier? Probably. Should I have? Maybe?

Update: I talked with the owner of Speedrobo. He is in complete agreement that the Cats Collection is wonderful and he can't wait for it to come out. He didn't have much else he can say at this point. I do know that they have access to a fucking huge pile of cards, so it's probably safe to assume that it is in the release schedule at some point in the timeline.

Trademark law is a very weird thing. You can trademark a name, but only in specific instances. Before registering the trademark, I had to make sure there wasn't anything like it. Turns out, there was a team in the WWE called "The Condemned" in the mid-2010s, but Vinny let the trademark expire. Technically, my trademark is for "The Condemned CCG" and the logo associated with it. And the logo specifically is what I can go after for copyright and trademark infringement.

I've been looking in to trademark law myself for my own game. My title name is a common word but with my subtitle it would be unique. I read that it could help put a disclaimer for the title word but get the trademark for the whole game name.
