Be honest, how long has it been since your last session? Was it a good session?
>>
>>98353674
>TQ
Four days ago. It was decent, not the best I’ve run, far from the worst. They finally caught a glimpse of the demon behind what’s going on.
>>
>>98353674
Yesterday, good but no one else can take a simple move, roll to hit, roll damage turn in under five minutes somehow.
Would have been today but I was home with a cold.
>>
Fucking gnomes
>>
>>98353674
Last Sunday, and it was a good session. We a combat encounter, and non combat encounter, and ended with some lore drops with a new goal.
>>
>>98353674
>TQ
Have't played since december, an AL scenario, was pretty fun. I'm starting a new group up with some strangers in around 4 weeks
>>
>>98353674
>TQ
Haven't played since May. The party completed the Redbrand Hideout in Phandelver. I could have handled the combat more intelligently but essentially the party ruined an ambush by Glasstaff and ended up killing him pretty easily, and the remaining Redbrands were cowed into submission.
>>

You could call it a meme bundle but the chronomantic warlock sounds like a bit of fun to me.
>>
ok, rate these CDs (choose 2 and gain 1 more whenever your number of uses increases)

>anoint weapons: a weapon you touch deal sbonus damage to fiends and undead
>bestow blessing: grant another creature a blessing from the dmg for 1 hour, or until you use this CD again
>blessing of manna: cause one creature to regain a low-level spell slot
>bless water: create WIS doses of holy water
>divine inspiration: give a creature heroic inspiration
>damnation: create a pit under the feet of up to your enemies. any falling damage they take (they avoid falling on a dex save) is fire damage
>prayer of resurrection: cast revivify without a slot or components
>rapture: levitate creatures on a failed dex save

I think it needs more non-christian options but im not sure what
>>
>>98354197
I kind of like the beastborne ranger. Too bad no wrestler barbarian. Would have loved to play that, an unarmed melee-grapple focused character
>>
>Naturally Stealthy. You can attempt to hide even when you are only obscured by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.

>Mask of the Wild. You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.

How big is the difference in reliability for enabling the standard Rogue tactic of hiding and shooting with advantage? Obviously the Wood Elf is a much more complete package than the Lightfoot Halfling in other areas, with Darkvision, free Perception proficiency, racial longbow proficiency, and much better speed. Rerolling 1s is never going to come up if you always attack with advantage.
>>
>>98354273
you wouldn't need to rely on foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena as a halfling. Just stand behind your non-halfling companion and shoot from cover
>>
is this too bland/strong?
>>
How does one come up with ideas for a campaign or quest? I actually don't know what the process is. Like, unless I have particular inspiration I just feel like my brain just... stops. It doesn't do "idea making".
>>
>>98354468
bland yes, strong maybe
>>
>>98354273
Worth noting the rerolling of 1s also applies to skill checks and saves. The former of which also isn't too key to a Rogue eventually due to reliable talent, but still not bad.

That aside, being able to Hide behind a creature tends to be more reliable. The Halfling also has the advantage of being shorter. Cover is determined by how much of your body is blocked by it, and so a 2-3 foot halfling has a lot more cover that counts as Three-quarters.

As you said, the Wood Elf has its own advantages in speed, darkvisions, skills, a longbow, etc., but in terms of just how reliably you can find hiding places the Halfling has the edge.
>>
How much enemy variation do you gusy put in per encounter? When I first started, if the party were to fight "orcs", they would just go up against 5 guys called "orc" and they would just be the base orc from the standard ruleset.

Nowadays I spruce things up, create a lot of variants with unique features and playstyles, adds a lot of spice to an encounter.
>>
>>98354780
I always try to include at least two enemy types. Typically not more than around six though, since at a certain point it becomes clunky to manage all the different statblocks and more confusing for players
>>
>>98354974
I do 3-5, gnolls are one of my favourites so I went a bit ham on them. Gnoll is just base, in case they ever for some raeson find them asleep or naked. Sanguimandor/Pack Lord/Flind are bosses, so they don't count as general units.
>>
>>98353674
Question, when you have mirror image up, when should you be casting shield?

For context, I have a cloak of displacement equipped, so I want to avoid getting hit as much as possible.
>>
>>98355055
The spell specifies you can use it as a reaction when you are *hit* by an attack, meaning it is there to turn a hit into a miss. So if an attack manages to get through mirror image and hit the real you, as well as hit despite disadvantage, you can then cast shield to boost your AC and potentially cause it to miss yet again.
>>
>>98355122
So i cannot use it before determining if a image is hit? Id want to extend the MI as long as possible.
>>
>>98354197
I like seeing any and all Sorcerer Gishes. I hope to see an official one- one of these days.

For this one, I kinda wish they could use a weapon as a focus.
>>
>>98354780
It always depends on the encounter.

A general and a specific question:

1. What separates a good party base from a bad one, or a great one?
2. How would your current party use this place, if at all?
>>
>>98356146
Cost, usually. After that, it greatly depends on the player and maybe their character.

If I were a paranoid player, I'd hate to live in the Redbrand Hideout. Any assassin could come in and kill you since there are no guards and multiple entrances. Your loot would be up for grabs, and you'd only find out after you came back from an adventure.

If I were a penny pincher, I'd be ecstatic. It's free real estate.

Any kind of crafter would be happy to have such a large estate. Especially if they plan to grow something or take care of animals.

A necromancer, demon summoner, thief, assassin, or any other kind of ne'er-do-well would be quite pleased to have a home outside the city from prying eyes that was thought to be a bandit hideout.

A RICH person, or a merchant, wouldn't really be impressed with the location, as you couldn't use it to host anything because tis ugly and ruined.
>>
>>98354211
>Anoint weapon
Can't judge as it doesn't have any numbers
>Bestow Blessing
Very strong, some of those blessings are great and it is extremely versatile if you can choose whichever you want
>Blessing of mana
What counts as low level?
>Bless water
Ah yes, because holy water is so expensive
>Divine inspiration
Nobody remembers heroic inspiration. I have a 2024 human and a custom human in my campaign. The 2024 human has used their inspiration twice in 32 sessions. He has literally died with inspiration up before.
>Damnation
How deep? Is there save? If there is no save and they're stuck in a pit it's literally just a kill button.
>Prayer of resurrection
Very good at saving money. Depends greatly on how lethal the campaign is.
>Rapture
Funny, kind of a save or suck. Depends on how easily they can push themselves off something. Can use on your own party members too.
>>
>>98356448
It really has exactly two entrances, one of which is in the ruins of Tresendar Manor and the other which is in the nearby forest, none of which are obvious.

Would a person of wealth be satisfied with the compromise of rebuilding the proper Tresendar Manor on top of it? Is the location well suited to be split between different party members?
>>
>>98356469
>Would a person of wealth be satisfied with the compromise of rebuilding the proper Tresendar Manor on top of it?
YEs, a fixed-up manor would be nice
>Is the location well suited to be split between different party members?
with the top floor and basement, yes.

It's best not to overthink it; give it to the players. And if they don't want it, oh well.

But if we ARE overthinking it, i'd be curious if it came with a noble title and how much of the land belongs to the deed owner. Does it come with taxes? What about some staff paid out 24 months in advance, like a butler, gardener, cook, a few maids, and a stable hand?

if it were me, i would have made Cragmaw my base
>>
making progress on my first ever dungeon

When it's finished it'll get a lick of watercolour and then I'll buy FoundryVTT and start the process of getting all of that set up
>>
>>98356146
I would sell it and buy ownership of the sleeping giant inn

The M in the middle with the 7 off of it, does that connect to the triangle room's hallway to the north and or the room room directly south with the dead body?

looks neat but there seems to be 2 wings to it
>>

>Can't judge as it doesn't have any numbers
2d6 once per turn. increases to 3d6 at Cleric 9 and 4d6 at Cleric 17

>What counts as low level?
level 1. increases to level 2 at Cleric 9 and level 3 at Cleric 17

>Nobody remembers heroic inspiration. I have a 2024 human and a custom human in my campaign. The 2024 human has used their inspiration twice in 32 sessions. He has literally died with inspiration up before.
skill issue

>How deep? Is there save? If there is no save and they're stuck in a pit it's literally just a kill button.
10 * Wis feet. they can avoid falling in by succeeding on a dex save to move out of the way. the walls can be climbed without a check, but are difficult terrain to undead and fiends
>>
>>98356639
>>98356467
>2d6 once per turn. increases to 3d6 at Cleric 9 and 4d6 at Cleric 17
I shoud also specify you can only have one blessed weapon at a time
>>
>>98356624
That hallway suffered a cave in. The south half with the dead body has only one connecting path. The north half has three paths. The left path is one way only, but players can access it early on if they see it and

When I finish the map it should be more clear, but basically the players will enter that M room from the library (the square room above) and can then either go east into caves to find an objective item and a troglodyte fight, or west to follow the 7 shaped passage ledge that is one way, players can drop down this tunnel into the hallway, but they can't go back unless they have climbing speed or set up a rope
>>
>>98356588
My group despised foundry and didn't want to play on it, buying it was a waste of money for me.
>>
>>98357222
>despised foundry and didn't want to play on it
Why? I've never heard of someone reacting like this before. Closest is an Owlbear Rodeo enthusiast who doesn't run systems like D&D who says truthfully that it'd be overkill for her purposes. And the whole group felt the same way?
>>
>>98353674
Damn it, OP, now I want stats for the bandit Betamax.
>>
I'm looking for any resources to inspire some ideas for "bastions", I'm not thrilled with how they work in 5e but the concept is sound. Essentially, if you know any third party or older edition stuff to get me thinking about how I can actually use them in the game would be great. Party just got "awarded" some land and a small, run down guildhouse they will use (we intend to have a kind of rotational table, so having a sort of HQ for the whole playerbase was needed).
>>
>>98357315
mcdm has their kingdoms and warfare and strongholds and followers books.
>>
>>98357335
>strongholds and followers
Cool I'll check it out. I intend to weave elements of upgrading the "Bastion" into various quests as well. I'm balancing a table of around 20 people, so various groups are doing different things within the same world.

>FoundryVTT
why would you ever play a ttrpg over the internet
>>
>>98357365
nta but ive got friends in different cities
>>
>>98357365
Some of us are employed, you know
>>
>>98357365
5e isn't a ttrpg
>>
>>98357393
youre retarded
>>
>>98357365
I haven't played in person since 2024. I miss the in person games but all my friends moved out of my shithole backwater of a city/state. I work remotely for a different state though and it's cheapish here. Maybe when my friends are all here we'll have one session in person. That would sure be nice.
>>
>>98357291
Iirc, because this was like 2 or 3 years ago, it was stupidly finnicky, amongst other thungs you couldn't just type items or features into a character sheet, you would have to create them in the system and then drag them onto the sheet which was fairly retarded.
>>
>>98357412
says the retard that thinks 5e is a ttrpg
>>
>>98357475
How would you describe it then, retard-kun?
>>
>>98357518
We don't sign our posts here. And it's a vttrpg, and has been since 2018. You would know that if you weren't a retard and actually played this game.
>>
>>98357381
I am also "employed", and it's not that difficult to organize a weekly meet-up to play for 4 hours. I go to the gym x3 a week, run x2 a week, have a child and a wife, work x5 days a week, study language x30 minutes per day and still have time to DM an in-person game. It sounds like you're making excuses. I can't imagine what it must be like sitting in front of a computer and playing a TTRPG...
>>
>>98357529
You can't spell vttrpg without ttrpg. You are a retard.
>>
>>98357535
So then why ask why play a vttrpg over the internet? Seems like a question only a retard would ask.
>>
>>98357222
I quite like it. You can get everything ever written on 5etools into your games with the click of a button thanks to plutonium importer
>>
>>98357365
I think people look ugly and I hate being in a room with them, but I love the sound of human voices, so it's a push pull for me.

When a spell says that it's fired in a "Line", does this mean it goes down the center of a grid square or along the line of the square?
>>
>>98357558
Center of the square
>>
>>98357566
Thanks, it's not always clear to me.
>>
>>98357547
My friend, have you heard of voice works?
>>
>>98357529
>it's a vttrpg
No, it's not.
>>
>>98357584
whatever helps you dilate at night retard
>>
>>98357558
Movement is measured in feet. Using the optional grid-based movement rules, you cause the effect to originate at an intersection of squares on your space. Either is valid. Things don't snap to the nearest centre of a 5-foot square.
>>
>>98357558
From my understanding, it follows down the "square" in the grid you're showing. Typically it will tell you when a spell "centers on a point", e.g., on an actual point between grids. For example, Moonbeam would center on a point and therefore impact 4 squares around it.
>>
>>98357558
If it followed done the line, would it hit two people per square or no people?
>>
>>98357608
If two people are standing close enough to block the movement of a medium creature's space, a 5-foot line will hit both of them.
>>
>>98357614
If anon were using hexes, would it follow the zigzag line of the hexes?
>>
>>98357558
At my table to avoid stupid barely clipping enemies with aoe shenanigans square must be clearly more than half inside the effect to be affected, like 55% or 60%, if there's any doubt then it's not affected. You can fire a 5 ft. wide line along the line of the square, but then no squares will be affected at all as both will be only 50% covered which is not enough. Though theoretically if there were 2 of your allies adjacent to each other and a large enemy behind them, you could snipe between your allies and hit the large enemy, because the large enemy occupies the space between the squares too. That overcomplicates things though, so the rule of thumb is 5 ft. and other (odd number of squares) width go through middle of a square, (even number of squares ) width lines go along the grid lines.
>>
>>98357532
>it's not that difficult to organize a weekly meet-up to play for 4 hours
With who? Where? On what days? All of them have that exact time free?
Sounds like meaningless hassle, I'm here to play a game not throw a weekly party for randoms
>>
>>98357627
To be fair, all of those are also problems with online games. I've learned to never play a game online with a retail wagie.
>>
>>98357674
>Friend used to be a NEET
>Gets a job
>Suddenly has to take a month off as it conflicts
>Continue without him
I'm a wagie too but I can plan around it at least. People without a set roster are when it's the most difficult.
>>
>>98357678
Naw, it's specifically a retail or fast food wagie problem. I noticed that when I was also a retailwagie, but was smart enough to set my shift availability for my game times. But I would still play with some people when the post-game "same time next week?" chatter happened when they would try to change the time of the advertised game time, despite it being the reason other people were playing that same game.
>>
>>98357678
>work Monday-Friday, but evenings, one week
>work Wednesday-Sunday the next week
meaning that you are most times at work when most people with other jobs are off
>>
Should your enemies, bosses, and other foes follow DnD rules to the dot? Do you get mad when these enemies have access to spells and abilities that Player Characters can't get access to?
