Both sides were wrong, but only elves acknowledge that in hindsight.
The hivemind will say it was only ever elves, but ignore dwarfs attacking elfen civilians before they even asked the phoenix king, and when they confronted him, they demanded immediate recompensation instead of actually talking things out.
Caledor II overreacted when he had them shaved, but the dwarfs gave him an easy excuse.

That makes sense I guess, probably to do with expectations of an army. It's just a nice feeling to go into a game and thinking "I am going to enjoy this ride no matter what". With my other army, it pretty much hinged on my best unit of heavy cav getting into the enemy. If they died, or my general died, it was GG.

Orcs even if my entire army is being slaughtered, I just like going down swinging. Its liberating being green.

What is the “etiquette” of using AoS stuff for this game? Obviously on their proper sized square bases, but some of the models for the Maggotkin range are awesome for a Nurgle WoC army, and most kits in the range could at the very least be harvested for bits.
>>
>>98360927
Many of the armies have a large portion of their range in AoS, some of them original WFB sculpts and some newer versions developed for that game. So you can't really realistically avoid running into them. Just use your judgement.
>>
>>98360871
I guess if you really wanted to you could try and make the shard dragon from the monstrous arcanum work for tow
>>98360927
Some anons here might bitch and moan but irl no one gives a fuck. It's rare to see an army that doesn't have at least one unit of AoS models on squares.
I can't imagine anyone having a problem with maggotkin as nurgle chaos warriors. They're some of the best looking aos stuff imo

The cool hats get in the way of the arrows in the quiver, so I thought of a solution but idk if it’s kino or dumb for peasants. I cut the arrows out of the quiver, glued the empty quiver to his back, and made a small hole in the base where I glued in the snipped arrows.

Historically I read archers did this sometimes to fire faster, but idk if it makes sense for retarded peasants. Maybe I can say they are bandits or some shit to justify it.

I disagree, lumineth are too specific of a design to fit as anything but lumineth outside of aos and are also weirdly off scale.

If something on that list can be used for a very specific tow thing, if anything, it's ossiarchs to proxy an army from nagashizzar using tomb king rules.

>>

some of the AoS minis are superior to their WFB counterparts
Simple because the wfb counterparts were so old and never had decent replacements

For example the giant bats for Vampires. Theres a lot of supplementary models like that, that patch missing models or severely out dated ones
Its completely subjective though

T. someone that hates AoS with the force of ten thousand suns

I don't have an issue with it.
>>
>>98361892
How about a compromise and leave the painted guys as is and slightly adjust the theme for the rest going for more and more brighter colors so the older darker paintjobs do not get lost and you end up with a vibrant-looking unit.

The Elves, the Phoenix King's arrogance caused the downfall of both races.

Also, the painting challenge: I'll be leaning towards Empire and get my old stuff painted, I'll go for the swordsmen I think get rid of that and those damn too detailed 1-wound models.
That or repaint and finish my Greatswords and have them match my army colour.
>>
>>98361203
Legit torn but leaning purple and yellow
Now I gotta plan theming
As for the army itself I have never played ToW, but I enjoyed the 1 game of 8th I played and would have enjoyed 6th if I was playing anything but my high elves (6th was the ONE time they were bad).
I feel that at least 1 unit of ogres is a must for Ostermark as mercenaries are a part of the culture, and being so close to sylvania a witchhunter captain would be fitting, maybe leading a unit of flagellants made up of refugees and survivors of Mordheim. On that same thought a beamer chariot of light would be welcome.
Are the demigryffs good? I dont know if its thematic but frankly I just think they look cool.
I'm thinking for Ostermark it will be led by the Margrave Leopold Von Spookenshaker of Nactdorf, right on the edge of the bleak moors.
>>
>>98362404
Ogre mercs sounds good
Flagellants can only be joined by Priests of Sigmar now, but a Witch hunter can always be in the army.
Beamer Chariot doesn't exists in TOW, no Colleges of Magic so it's not build yet.
Demigryphs are pretty good I've heard, solid mount with good attacks that ignores armour and boost the rider's stats as well IIRC
Brilliant sounding name for a General.
>>
>>98362424
>Beamer Chariot doesn't exists in TOW, no Colleges of Magic so it's not build yet.
I really think them setting in the past is just to prevent overlap with age of smegma, as if we need more reason to hate it.

It's not 1 to 1 of course but the aos skinny orcs take a lot of design elements from really early orc sculpts which weren't nearly as stocky as later orc designs.

I do like some of the early sculpts, I think they can be quite characterful and fun. But taking a design element like a helmet shape from them and doing a modern thing with it as a throwback does nothing for me.
>>
>>98362726
no, they do it for free, it's not even done in genuine appreciation of those old models, it's just faggots who cling to anything to "justify" the new product because they see any negativity as an assault on their own enjoyment of warhammer, and last but not least they have a complex about being the ones to "crack the code", be it fluff, model design or incoming releases. to the point you could bet good money that the same anons also end up in silly arguments like
>the fyrlizardander and fyfofumslayers are actually southeast polynesians
>this ed is all along nostalgiabait about the launch of sugmar and nobody told u
>this model was actually meant to be this other thing, ignore the sculptor saying no

>Khorne actually is a chaos god thoughever.
Oh, yea. I meant Khaine.

There was a bit of a "are khaine and khorne actually the same thing"/"is khaine a chaos god" thing going on for a bit in the lore, and in 8e they finally gave a definitive "no".

Have to say I like the 4e banner more, it feels more "symbolically charged"

I keep forgetting araloth is a named character. Probably because he was released just months before everything blew up and he spent the next few years as a generic model in AoS

how so? Looking at them its 90% trash and in unplayable numbers. It's clearly a scam compared to the battalion boxes.
>Empire
20 state troops is a pointlessly low unit count.
TEN flagellants, they are worthless as 30.
So the only worthwhile contents are the outriders, 10 missile troops and 10 archers. The commander on foot is also basically worthless for Empire, a wizard or engineer is better or better yet the actual dual command kit with banner.

>Beastmen
Bestigors are worthless
only 10 ungors so can't even do the primal herd for an actually viable unit
warhounds are worthless
Characters are something I guess.

>O&G
probably the best one but wolf riders are worthless and points must be minimal for such small units.

>HE
10 seaguard, we're back in IoB days.
FIVE shadow warriors is worthless.
Rest is ok though the chariot and skycutter is very meh.

>WE
Get fucked rumourmongers but 10 guard and four gladeriders is shit, sisters and araloth is something but you'd need four boxes to run a halsyn list compared to two and a blister for the same numbers.
>>
>>98363713
i don't think there have given a price yet
But the Wood elf box is worse than the Battalion box
>>
>>98363630
not necessarily.
WoC/Cathay also have two battle march forces but only the ones from the core set have muster lists. A TK vs WE box which include their muster lists is still possible
>>
>>98363705
>>98363659
He's the only plastic character they have, and also he's terrible. Hopefully this is a bit of an eye-opener that leads to them getting a range refresh sooner rather than later.
>>
>>98363636
I still can't believe how good the helf one is if you happen to be into the sea guard army.
>>
>>98363725

>>
>>98363636
the beastmen box is pretty good, there would be no issue with buying two of them

these are meant for out of the box battle march games, not 2,000 points games you room temp iq smoothbrain
>>
>>98363630
Well that was quick
>>
>>98363720
Those unit counts for Empire are good for Battle March games, which is the point of the box
>>
>>98363630
>soon you’ll be able to get four of them in their own boxed sets – plus a fifth, because everyone loves a good Wood Elf war party.
a really confusing way of wording it. 4 boxes, "plus a fifth"..?
I'd lean towards that meaning "a fifth battle march set but not sold in its own box", meaning wood elves in a new starter box with TK... But then why don't they show the TK battle march photo too? My only answer to that is because the TK one is made of new models and they will have their own reveal.
>>
>>98363630
>4 glade riders
For what purpose?
>>
>>98363720
The HE one is by the far the best one to actually start an army, easy buy two of those boxes. Skycutters are fantastic units dummy

>>
>"Here are boxes you can buy as a self-contained army to play small games"

>>
>>98363778
TK is an easy army to upgrade
New skeletons
New horsemen
New chariots
New colossus/hierotitan dual kit
New casket
5 new units and everything else is in pretty good shape and doesn't really need a refresh
>>
>>98363804
>Tomb kings side of the box will be brand new and revealed soon™
With new skellies. Believe.
>>
>>98363813
Battle March is cool for people who want to get into Fantasy or give it a try. I know I like Fantasy so for me I am judging these boxes on how well they work for starting new armies with multiples. HE one is the best so far, if the WoC one had anything but that sorcerer in it that would be in first place
>>
>>98363815
Missing Ushabti which are a monstrous unit you always need in numbers and have two variants so a must for a plastic dual kit. Also missing tomb scorpions, the best unit of the edition, which are a terrible and ancient kit and need plastics. Not to mention the screaming skull catapult which DESPERATELY needs a kit. So actually they NEED 8 kits, which is on par with Cathay refresh.
>>
>>98363815

>>
>>98363938

>>
>>98363959
That doesn’t really count because they weren’t replaced in AoS, they were just given back to fantasy full stop
>>
>>98363916
Probably only because the stock they made hasn't sold out yet. Doubt they're still producing them. Also usually they start recalling them at this point.
>>
>>98363977
They got rid of the Orc and Goblin Battalion Box, and there was no way that box sold out before being removed from sale
>>

I still worry about the worth of some of these boxes regardless tho.
>>
>>98361164
Gryphons are the quiet reserved type but I bet dragons fuck like tigers.
>>
>>98364936
Yeah battle march has the same restrictions as games of size do. It’s not really its own game mode like spearhead or combat patrol. More a set of rules to make smaller games more interesting. With objectives and occurrences made for the smaller scenarios. The full battle march rules should still be in the OP if you want to see. But yeah to answer your question it isn’t fixed at all. You can make your own lists.
>>
>>98362433
it's more so because they wanted a moving narrative, and setting it in the "modern day" of the warhammer world kind of prevented that, unless they were ready to commit to split timelines which they obviously weren't.
If tow keeps chugging along eventually we'll reach the conclusion of the great war of chaos narrative and we might timeskip to "present day" and go for a different timeline altogether. Maybe going with the storm of chaos story, who knows

Grimgore da best
>>
>>98362433
I think the TOW timeline was retarded and they did it for very petty reasons not to crossover with AoS (skaventide) and realized that was stupid near the beginning. Going straight to modern times or "what if the End Times didn't happen?" or someother easy to toss in different timeline shit would be best regardless. So many people are ignoring the narrative and doing what they want anyways, whether Longbeards encouraging it or 2ndarys dipping their feet in from other games or Total War.
>>
>>98364997
I bet a timeline split to justify moving the setting up and including more familiar characters would be pretty well received by mostly everyone. Maybe with 3rd edition in 15 years.
>>
>>98365047

>for the foreseeable

>>98364048
Nice ways to get people into the game, but I do think they have weird unit selections, especially for battle march. I guess they wanted to entice people with variety over utility in most boxes.
On a positive note, I could see myself getting two of the beastmen boxes for a new army if the discount is good enough. Haven't found a coherent range of STLs I like for them yet.
Overall though I'm not sure why there's so much hype around a bunch of repackaged minis that have been around since the early 2010s.

You will never be a beastman. You have no horns, you have no hooves, you have no mutations. You are a chaos player twisted by heavy metal and father issues into a crude mockery of the dark gods's perfection. All the "validation" you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back ungors mock you.
The Ruinous Powers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “allies” laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed doors.
Demons are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of corruption have allowed them to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even "Turnskins" who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a demon. Your hoof structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk nurgling to your herdstone, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your diseased, infected "horns".
You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake bray every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your cultists will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a herdstone marked with your birth name, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a man is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably human.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

They didn't reintroduce that for customers, dipshit, they reintroduced it because the guy running SGS is a massive RTfag. Same reason Nucromunda has more in common with Confrontation than it does its actual namesake.

That's also incidentally why TOW is just a bit meh, GW clearly gave a brief to make a "best of" WHFB edition based on the most popular versions 6th and 8th, and he doesn't give a fuck about that so it gets minimum effort.
>>
>>98363630

How to fix TOW and finally heal the wounds of End Times:
>Do the rumoured Last World thing to AoS next year and in the process obliterate all explicit references to WHF, then do TOW 2nd edition a year later(also make it basically 6th 2.0, but that's just for me)
>Announce along with it the end of Legends'd content, everything's back in the core game and will be supported
>Restore the timeline to the 2510's, Karl Franz struggling with wayward Electors, rumblings of a new Dark Power rising in the frozen north, Orcish incursions into the Border Princes etc etc
>First thing in the new rulebook is a short story about a Celestial Magister getting dragged off by the Witch Hunters after going goo-goo ga-ga batshit crazy from wyrdstone-induced visions including of both SoC and ET(conceptually, no specific details related to the actual shitty campaign) and a couple of other things, and the story concludes with another Magister basically telling the WH "it was all Chaos jujumagumbo, no truth in it at all"
>All story content for 2nd edition TOW is historical campaigns
Done. Basically just give us our setting back, eliminate the connection to AoS, and then fuck off.
>>
>>98365841
>All story content for 2nd edition TOW is historical campaigns
Idk I think I want TOW to actually finish telling the story it's setting up at a glacial pace. Speed things up and get to the burning of praag. Maybe even introduce some different elements here suggesting that the timeline has already split/is splitting then jump forward with 2nd edition. TOW has brought a lot of people to or back to rank&flank and I think it should get to finish one arc before it becomes warhammer fantasy proper again.

Hmm, I genuinely didn't know that was a thing up for serious debating. It has always seemed pretty clear to me, though perhaps maybe due to 40k-Khaine and his lore on the Eldar.
>symbolically charged
Heh, are you perhaps referring to the suspicious pile of skulls? Totally unrelated to Khorne.
I myself like the updated banned for Naggarond, and find neat how they changed Khaine's bloody-hand into holding Widowmaker; weapon of the 1st Phoenix King.

Quick question: is Battle March intended to be played only with the pre-made armies from the battle march boxes or can you play it with anything up to whatever the point limit is?

>Heh, are you perhaps referring to the suspicious pile of skulls?
No, I mean it looks more like a "heraldic banner".

The pose is unnatural, the heart and moon compete for attention because theyre both ritually significant to the dark elves, it all helps it feel like a "real" depiction of a god, which tended to not focus on making the god look as cool and action posey as much as cram in various esoterica and "this is the sacred simob/animal of the god, which is why theyre holding it".

The sword makes it look more like a generic monster.
>>
>>98366225
If anything, we need more and weirder depictions of khaine. One where he has the head of a lion/manticore because thats an animal associated with him, one where hes many-armed and holding a dagger, a scorpion, the widowmaker, a beating heart, the moon of nagarythe and then maybe a pen or some other more "esoteric" implement of killing.

Maybe one where hes holding a decapitated demon head and doing the Kali pose.

Its a common trope of chaos warrios to make them sympathetic in stories.
Beastmen rape for the love of the game, its what makes them so alien and sinister. But Chaos warriors have real human motivations

I'm on the fence on the new bigger gutplates. And I do like the smaller heads, even if the weird flanged helmet are a bit much. Feels like it's supposed to be an overexaggerated take on the flanged Mongol helmets.
At the very least, it's good to know they're small enough that they can be ranked up on squares with just a bit of finagling.

Funny, the beastmen box is basically half of what I wanted to start a new 6E army with, so if I got two of those, a box of minotaurs and something like a giant I'd have my 2000 points list.

Is it worth it beast players or won't I cut it as a forest rapist with something like this (mark of nurgle on everything because I think monsters causing fear is cool):
>beastlord on foot as the general (I like the model)
>wargor as BSB, probably with an ambush boosting banner
>two bray shamans, one with the stick that gives him the "charge out of ambush" spell
>two beast heards (20 gors with two hand weapons and 10 gors with spears and shields each) in ambush
>two chaos hounds units to screen for minotaurs and bestigors
>one unit of 20 bestigors running with the beastlord
>one unit of 3 minotaurs
>a chaos giant or dragon ogres

I know I lack chariots but I just don't like those things, aesthetically.
