Boy have you lost your mind? The OP is one of the most cursed frankenstein photoshop jobs I've ever seen Starting at that carapace you've got laser blasters that are cut straight off the studio warlord that have larger barrels than the twin volcano cannons, quake cannons, and turbo lasers that are under it, you've got mini turbo lasers in ball joints that are somehow the same caliber as the quake cannons in ball joints that still have the joint that would connect it to the warlord's arm, then you've got twinned volcano cannons just slapped on the bottom of the carapce, which has a bunch of streamers desperately trying to hind the fact that the arms holding the supersized guns are coming straight down from the carapace and now any shoulder joint on the titan. The torso is actually just two crossed reaper chainswords with an armored bib in front where the blades should be, the hellblaster is a kheres assault cannon melted into a macro gatling blaster, the hips are just a warlord titan's with some blocky shit pasted on top of it with a four gear knee wider than the hip connecting into the wrist of a knight lancer.

Eh, I’ll wait for a summary before deciding whether or not to spend time reading it. Guy Haley sucks at writing action, but he can be okay at character driven stories.

>>
Guys what should I do with my SoH veterans that were equipped with banestrike bolters and power weapons in the previous edition.
>>
>>98362124
Still not a fan of the top down magazine. Personally would’ve preferred the older style of modular combi weapons, the ones where the bolter and secondary weapons were separate and you could freely mix and match.

Style aside, I actually do agree that having an entire box of combi weapons are kind of overkill. Probably would’ve been more suited to include two of each with a new infantry kit or something. Having said that, I guess it’s not a bad thing to buy just one box and be supplied with all the combi weapons you’d ever need.

I like the idea of a box of combi weapons, I do not like the designs and the fact that the tac squad no longer comes with a combi weapon however
>>
>>98362124

>>
>>98362124
What the fuck are you on about, spamming combimeltas, flamers, or volkites in a veteran tactical squad are all extremely good options for whatever you're wanting to tool them up for. Combi plasmas are only bad because plasmas are bad. You newfags need to learn how to play before you open your mouth, spamming vets with combi weapons has been a time honored tactic for decades.
>>
>>98362320
With everything being one shot aside from the volkite option, combi weapons aren’t what they used to be. Melta and grav at least have some utility as options to deal with armor

How hardline are you, the anon reading this, about retaining the aesthetic integrities of the Horus Heresy? Every day it feels like I see more and more people using bits from 40K. Granted most do it somewhat tastefully, but last weekend I saw a full army that featured about half primaris bits.

Related, would using a Daemon Prince be going too far?
>>
>>98362883
Depends on the bits and the usage.
A daemon prince would be fine in a ruinstorm army.
>>
>>98362883
Moderately. You have to judge each thing on an individual basis.
>>
>>98362883
>How hardline are you, the anon reading this, about retaining the aesthetic integrities of the Horus Heresy?
I think you can shove bits purity up your ass.
this community started around converting from 40k models. before alan got the OK to go ham, before GWs marketing team got wise, long before fucking HH starter sets or black library shitting on everything cool, we were here. that's still the beating heart, under everything else.
the important thing is whether or not they give a fuck. a passionate hobbyist's work will shine no matter how they source their models. a lazy fuck's work will suck even if they have the most bespoke official everything.
>>
>>98362993
t. Uses only primaris kits in Heresy colours
>>

>The original HH fags converted classic marines into era appropriate armours
>Therefor I should be allowed to use un-altered primaris marines in 30k
>>
>>98362883
I'm assuming people do this so they can play their army in 40k too since otherwise you'd be paying more money on the 40k line compared to heresy for a worse looking army. If so then you can blame 3.0, who'd have thought an objective based low options cookie cutter force org game like the heresy would appeal to people who already play an objective based low options cookie cutter force org game like 40k.
>>
>>98363111
Stop larping as a grog, you're being terribly unconvincing.
The vast majority of missions in 1.0 and 2.0 had objectives, even progressive scoring was already a thing in some missions during 1.0. The biggest difference was that in those editions, massacring the opponent gave you an auto-win instead of 3 VP, and that the lethality was way, way higher. It was so easy to write an armylist that could wipe out the enemy in 1 or 2 turns that it was all that WAACfags did. There was actually a lot of playing around objectives with genuine narrative players that balanced armylists against one another.

Pr*maris bits are never acceptable. No exceptions. Everything else is on a case by case basis. I've seen excellent conversions for example using 40k chaos space marines or khorne berzerkers (removing some trim or icons, adding heresy shoulder pads and backpacks etc). I think those two kits in particular are great for traitor squad sergeants, officers and legion specific specialist units. There's also unfortunately a lot of lazy hobbyists who just build a squad of 40k models, put zero work into converting or kit bashing, and then paint them in heresy colors and call it a day. If you put some actual work into modeling your Daemon Prince it'd be perfectly fine for a late heresy / siege of terra / imperial dungeons themed force.

building a forge world land raider proteus versus a plastic one.....

I currently have like three other plastic variations of the proteus that I keep grabbing the boxes for, remembering how tedious it is and then putting them back down again. Same with rhino chassis vehicles. I LOVED building the OLD plastic rhinos/LRs.

Bits purity as a general concept is retarded, but for space marines in 30k specifically it's a major point that the space marines are not the same space marines as current Gen 40k space marines so keeping them aesthetically distinct should be a major consideration when choosing parts.

>>98364262
>More bits means they go together nicer.
They really dont. More bits does not mean they go to gether better, it just makes them more annoying to build.
>>
>>98364282
It does, each connection provides more tolerance.
If you have two big slabs of plastic then any degree of warping on even a single piece will be large and noticeable. SMaller pieces can correct for that much more easily.
>>
>>98363735
>>98363759
Abaddon in the Heresy Card game had a Scottish accent, and since they're described at having hard faces and coming from a planet with criminal gangs, we can surmise that Cthonia and the SoH are in fact, Space Glaswegians.
>>
>>98364308
>Wapring.
This was an issue with resin but is hardly an issue with plastic, which yes can warp but takes a fuck ton longer to do so. Besides the point GW again needlessly created a shit ton of parts of fix problems that didn ot need to exist. For example the sides of vehicles did not need to be like 3 or 5 parts the worst issues with warping on the old rhino was with the top exction attatching to the sides and bottom.

The Rhino and LR itself is not the worst offender, its the infentry that is god aweful, see thallax for example, or outside of HH, the AOS Chaos knights are terrible, and then the Demon prince as well makes sub assembly for painting fucking near impossible.

I only ever had to use elastic bands with certain forgeworld tanks, and even then, it was extremely rare. The more recent plastic tanks though, because they split the sides into so many fucking pieces, the chance of them not being level has now gone up quite a bit.
>>
>>98364358
Heresy is a lot better off than other ranges, new Old World stuff is hideous, what is more annoying is that you have to fit parts in a single pose so that if you can't fit a part to certain arms then you've wasted a piece.
>>

He is correct in that the scoring mechanics are bad and make the much worse, but the guy is stupid by his own admission and the reason why its bad isn't because 40k also has scoring each turn and therefore its magically bad by association, it's because the implementation is absolutely terrible and turns every game into a hyper repetitive contest of putting the most common unit in the fucking game which has zero competitors in its role onto as many objectives as possible as soon as possible and doing anything else is complete self-sabotage, so everybody knows what every other player will do every fucking turn of every fucking game. This is some shit the specialist games studio invented all on their own.

technically they don't anymore
and plastic injection moulds are strictly inferior when it comes to how many parts are required to maintain the same level of detail
you're just willingly forgetting how awful the studs were for previous plastics before GW had to split the parts in half to not produce sausage studs

>the heresy was about sending waves of space marine at each other
sure but they weren't holding objectives, they were slaughtering the other side because if a marine isn't dead they are a threat. 90% of it was straight conquest and defence from Istvann to Terra. Arguably zone mortalis should be the objective based element of the heresy.
>>
>>98365313
if the objectives are in the middle of the table then those marines are forced to run towards the enemy and are more likely to engage with them
in some missions, it's easier to think of the objectives less like physical objects and more of soft goals and territory you have control over
>>
>>98364819
Putting them on footsloggers throws off the proportions. The physical profile of the weapon is seriously balanced out by the bulkiness of the jump pack, so without that, the axes stick out poorly.

>There has to be some instance of a non-primarch reaching deamonhood
No examples of marines doing it during the HH in written lore. But some regular human daemon princes in the lore pre-date even the age of technology, like Doombreed iirc.
>>
>>98366025
Logically, 99% of daemon princes should be from unheard of xenos species that went extinct milllions of years ago, given that chaos has been around literally forever and even humanity is practically infants on the galactic scale, but games workshop is not a logical company, and horus heresy is not well written.

>>

>>

Solun Decius and Maloq Kartho.
Not that it really matters, the warp messes with time, and just because a daemon appears to wear space marine like armour doesn't mean it was definitely a space marine.

Yes. If a weapon has the "Combi" special rule you can choose to fire either the primary or secondary modes, or both. Just be aware that most combi weapons also have the Limited (1) special rule on their secondary mode, meaning they're limited to a single use (ex: one shot combi melta).

Blood Angels seem ridiculously well set up for zone mortalis. Zephon has a praetor statline with ootl 2, a 2 damage paragon blade, and ew1 which perfectly fills the non prime single command slots in some of the primary detachments. Different scoring for vanguard helps the issues with melee units, and the board setup helps their melee focus. And their unique detachment gives back a prime troop if you want an assault squad sergeant with some actual punch or a cheap squad to project fear 1 out to status people.

3.0 is a mixed bag, but it's nothing community rules can't fix. GW deserves to hear complaints when they fuck up (legacies units for example), but there's a fine line between useful community push-back and useless doom posting from career whiners who make no effort to fix anything. Chads step up and make the game they want to play.

I'm in the most active scene in the UK and can ask anyone from SB to TSN and even US clubs who won't hesitate to say the game is dead and third killed it.

Actual short answer >>98369045: yes, if anything it's worse.
Long answer: ecelebs may play things up for clicks, but all their fundamental points stand(as evidenced by the fact none of the people saying "nuh-uh!" can actually refute them, just make vague allusions to "doom mongering" etc) and it actually has been a real blow to loads of areas.

My local scene went from two active groups of 20+ guys each playing across two clubs and an FLGS running campaigns and tournaments several times a year to one group of four crusty grogs playing houseruled 2.0 Zone Mortalis and Strike Force in my game room with me, and a couple of dudes showing up every week at one of the local clubs to play "demonstrator games" of 3.0 to "prove" it wasn't bad - they're still doing it god bless 'em, and it's still just the two of them.

A couple of big events are still doing okay, many middling sized ones are dead as a dodo. For every anecdote you can find of "well *I* love 3.0 and my community is better than liek EVAR!!!1", you'll find two or three of the opposite. Several of the "doom & gloom" creators 3.0fags insist are just mindless critics actually went hard as fuck on 3.0 when it came out and the reason they've turned against it is their views shat the bed because most people don't give a fuck.

Toying around with the idea of running a game or two of zone mortalis with alternate activations. Core reactions and the reaction point pool will be gone. Units with reactions specific to them will keep their reactions as a once per turn ability (like breachers and shieldwall, librarians and psychic reactions, etc). Main concern is making initiative still relevant to avoid the can of worms of rebalancing melee weapons around no initiative. Which of these ideas seems best, or is there another option I'm not seeing?
>combats happen during activations using initiative (the non activated unit can choose to attack or not, but units may only attack once a turn, combat resolution could happen per fight sequence or once end of round).
>combat resolution happens seperate to activations, at the end of the round using initiative (maybe a dice roll to see who picks first combat to resolve)
>combat gets resolved without initiative. Each attacking model would compare their initiative after modifiers to the majority of the defending unit and some buff / debuff to either amount of attacks or weapons skill would take place based on the difference

terminators can be stepped on by titans and survive, albeit buried in dort

survivability in terms of game mechanics can't really reflect that; you might take a shot to the face in either armour and have about equal chances of surviving, but the terminator is going to last a lot longer against a darkmech machine built only for ripping the arms and legs off power armour (not rated for terminators, warranty void if damaged by use with terminators)

you know machines like that were a big fear for praetors and centurions in all legions, especially after what happened to Abaddon

The other option he gave him was death. Also rogue traders in 30k aren't pirates as much as the dudes running at full speed in front of the crusade, mapping interesting shit like human planets and dangerous shit so he's sending him to die in some forgotten place that's probably never seen an human in millennia rather than have someone actually valuable go.

Couple of power weapons of your choice, that's about it.
Assault marines work best when they hunt down ranged units, tactical squads, and tanks with weak rear AV, so they don't need much extra equipment. Combat shields are a waste of points, gotta stay clear of units with lots of power weapons.

'Huge' FAQ and Errata is coming before the end of summer
Journal Tactica: Zone Mortalis was more than just a journal, it was a test bed for rules tweaks. Test players and reviewers met the rules with approval and some of these will be getting rolled into the mainline rules.
>Barricade rules are being added to cover more terrain types.
>Changes to line and vanguard from ZM are being made the norm. Sector control is going to be important.
>FNP is being reworded in a similar way to Regeneration saves from the Old World. No reason has been given for this.
>Nuncio vix explicitly states that it requires a command or high command unit on the battlefield, not embarked in a transport, engaged in combat or having a status of their own. This model also cannot be attached to the unit containing the vox.
>Questoris Familia models are now only hit in the rear armour if they have a status. There was discussion around making them take statuses in the way super-heavies do, but that idea was deemed too strong.

There is allegedly more, but that's all I have confirmation on.

Regardless of how many playtesting and proof reading is done beforehand, there will always be things that will only be discovered once the hivemind of thousands of customers gets their hands on it. Will the errata feature some balance changes ? nerf to Kratos or Vulkan for example ?
>>
>>98373117
Kratos doesn't need a nerf. Unless the opponent brings the traditional terminator death star in a spartan it just doesn't have enough impact for its high point cost.
>>
>>98373117
The kratoes doesent need a nerf. Its a specialist unit thats good at what it does and bad at what it isnt meant to do.

Vulkan also (probably) doesent need a nerf. Not because he isnt "op" relative to the other primarchs, hes clearly too good a duellist, but because "primarch vs primarch combat" doesent and shouldnt matter or be what the game is balanced around. Primarch deathstars are lame and gay.
>>
>>98372900

>>Questoris Familia models are now only hit in the rear armour if they have a status
Dont like this. Whats the point of positioning vs knights if theyre just always front armor?

The others seem inoffensive enough. Even if I think ZM scoring might be a bit too much for "every mission", then again my legion has lots of vanguard so fuck it why not.
>>
>>98373161
Assume it means only in melee. Knights are always hit on their rear armour in melee right now.
>>
>>98373168
Oh. Yea, that one I think is totally fine. It was a weird change when the whole gimmick with knights and walkers used to be that they fight with their front armor in melee.
I guess they figured that since all the melee weapons (or a lot of them) went down some S they wouldnt need it? but still, weird stuff.
>>
>>98373177
Think they under-estimated how good krak grenades are. When all models in a unit have one, even fucking militia infantry can destroy a knight in melee when it has rear AV 11

Oh man, I just liked your usage of the dodo fact. Not sure if I understand your reply, I am playing 2.0, plan to play 1.0 and have absolutly no plan of ever playing 3.0. I also do not like the nu-marines sonI am building an army only with FW and old plastic models.
>>
>>98373261
Each only only rolls one check per status each phase, doesn't matter how many weapons with that status effect shot at them. So for your entire army to become routed turn one you'd need to be incredibly unlucky.
>>
Is there a zm pdf floating around?
>>
>>98373272
The guy this happens to runs 4 whirlwinds a master of decent, a bunch of flamer rhinos and a lot of jet bikes so most turn games he can route a bunch if stuff in both shooting and combat, its rare he will route it all but most of it gets routed, only way to beat him is to play super cagey which is also highly unfun

NTA, but no, they don't need to. The only reason to put the priest in the actual unit is for comptroller and context controller
>>
>>98373436
No they don't. But keep enjoying having your entire army routed off the board turn one. Jackass.
>>
>>98373261
>but when people start building around them and you're entire army is routed turn one
Potentially, yes. But the alternative is "your entire army is dead turn 1", which is also entirely doable for that sort of pts cost.

Maybe you mean "statussed" rather than specifically routed, but panic weaponry is basically just either flamers (short range, low status value) or phosphex (expensive, short-medium range, very limited carriers). Neither are exactly super versatile platforms (the best general purpose one is probably the rapier quad mortar? but even there its like 75ppm for a base, and its 24" range.
And the average basic marine squad passes panic(1) "on average" (and that you basically auto-pass all your statuses at the end of the turn). Status weaponry typically comes hand in hand with poor actual damage for the cost.

And status weaponry also has clear counterplay. Transports (status weaponry is often expensive and lower S, so even a rhino is more than enough), the ubiquitous nuncio-vox, true believers/combat vets, apothecaries, a chaplain...

Statuses are typically attached to lower damage weapons variants that are good at crippling otherwise tough units instead of outright killing them, that is a fair trade-offf.

>>98373319
Thats ~450pts on whirlwinds which have the combined damage output of a 100pts quad mortar unit. (four s5 ap5 large blasts).

>>98373457
Those are both pretty fucking important things. Without a priest automata cant react or score. Theyre basically "gun-bots" and most of them do not excel in that role (especially since you ARE running a lot of priests anyways, because your priests are how you unlock your cyberthurgic buffs and repair your models, which are both pretty core to what makes admech work). The most common way ive seen automata run are lots of castellax, domitar, and thanatar, and those all run priests attached.

Priests still have solid mental stats though, theyre like ld9 or 10 or something.
>>
>>98373457
>>98373477
I only have one unit of Automita which are Castellax who need to a priest for their main job, plush he has nowhere else to go.
>>
>>98373342
Heres the thing anon. Mechanicum are SUPPOSED to be weak to panic (as much as theyre weak to any status effects). All their units have insanely high Cool stats, but their LD is decent/good at best. In exchange for being functionally immune to pinning, suppression, and stun (even Shock(X) variants, which is retarded) they run away a comparative lot of the time.

haven't read the relevant novels, but I assume the skull face paint is symbolic of the Sagyar Mazan seeking redemption for betraying their primarch, through death in battle.
>>
>>98373477
>No they don't
Unless theyre Paragon of Metal? Yea, they kinda will. Or at least Castellax always will (because theyre your "cheap" scoring bulk) and Thanatars will (because you REALLY want it to be able to return fire). Domitars also often end up with priests because theyre wanting to get their cyuberthurgic buffs and may as well be in the unit for that.

Every mechanicum army WILL have priests, they are your line and the glue which keeps the army functioning, and theres just not many good places to put them besides automata units.

Was also one of the most hiddenWAAC lists in 2.0

You couldn’t have heavy support but mass blobs of infantry had a 5+ FNP and didn’t count towards scoring if they died. 3.0 countered this by making ebon keshig terminators rape machines and only one infantry squad can get Sagyar Mayzan which I have to 20 despoilers

Power spears means they attack at initiative 5, any marine those kill won't attack back. And can snipe the sergeant in melee with precision 6 on a lucky roll. But mauls is generally fine.
>>
>>98373760
I was going to build them as normal, not Vets. It seems to me power lances would be best used en mass, as opposed to just 3 guys. The other option I was thinking about is Thunder Hammers because these will likely be Salamanders in some manner, but that feels a bit much.
>>
Mv4 kits and combi weapons are releasing next week for those that care
>>
>>98373789
Nah thunder hammers are wasted on assault marines. Want to keep them cheap. The power weapons are just to make sure they'll still easily rout a tactical squad even after having taken some casualties. Even power swords are good enough for that job.
