What are some good scifi ttrpgs aside from anything Warhammer 40k or Star Wars related that have psionics and psychic powers as a major feature? Having psionics tied to the FTL would be a plus.

Recently tried Stars Without Number and that wasn't quite what I was looking for.

Thanks. dunno much about GURPS so i'll go digging

Any other suggestions? tryna give myself as many options as I can

Traveller, although it'd depend on what it was about SWN that didn't appeal to you

NTA, I vouch for Mass Effect D6, it was so well done it won an Ennie I think, even when infringing copyrights.

NTA again, I think this is the last version of it, 2.35:

I played lots of FATE psionics, cold war psionics, cyberpunk psionics, space opera psionics, post-apocalyptic psionics...
>>
>>98364388
Traveller has Psionics and they can be used pretty heavily if one wishes

Fair bit of houseruling required. Most powers are expensive and difficult, most psions don't have more than 12 points. A battery is a rare implant, but possible.
>>
>>98373033
agreed. it would be nice to find something like traveller but where psionics feel more impactful and where telekinesis can be used effectively in combat rather than the piddly 'Punch' traveller gives you.

SWN does have the TK stuff, but the OSR side of the rules turn me away.
>>
>>98364388
What are your favorite psychic abilities besides the basic telekinesis, telepathy, and empathy? I’m a teleportation fan.
>>
>>98375498
Astral Projection and Bilocation are pretty dope

I dislike teleportation without considerable thought put into how it works in universe.

That said, I've been a big fan of telepathy and using psychic powers to manipulate the body (inspired by Dune) and wanting to find ways to heavily incorporate it into the settings technology.

Could I use Mass Effect D6 to play Earthbound?

I don't want to run Earthbound in 5e again, that was awful.

I forget what that dudes deal was aside from all his pressure points being reversed.

That said, you just described the regular Face Breaking Fist.

Who woulda thought that TWO playtest and homebrew characters would have broke the game???

Early UA Psion which was broken as frick

And a homebrew Artificer which... just didn't work.

It was fun when the Psion used Cloud Step to have the fighter jump into a helicopter, but that was the most fun part of that entire campaign. I would rather have played Fate, and that's definitely saying something.
>>
>>98375766
The Psion didn't have psionic dice did it? Of all the things made in 5e I unironically like the psionic dice system.
>>
>>98375816
Nah, this was pre-Tasha's like... 2017 or 2018.

I never tried the official psion classes, just UA jank and homebrew.
>>
>>98375701
No idea. What's Earthbound like?
>>
>>98376941
Basically the movie E.T. if the alien was out to kill the kid, but the setting is still wholesome, because friendship and growing up.

It's that 1970-90s genre of found-families vs aliens (and the aliens are either destroyed or also become part of the family, or they just have a weird dance number.)
>>
>>98377185
Why the fuck would you want to play an RPG about kids? Pedo shit.
>>
>>98377261
Cuz I have repressed childhood memories of being anally raped as a child anon.
>>
>>98377261
Why did you immediately assume someone you don’t know wants to fuck kids? Are you projecting?

>>98377387
Yes.

How do you fellas like to handle the vibe of psionics in your games?
Do you prefer a mostly pseudo-scientific approach or a more mystical/spiritual vibe?

I try to incorporate both but definitely lean hard on the latter.

The idea being that the mystical aspect of it is (sorta) made up with Humans putting their spin on the how and why while the physical aspect is very apparent with the technology and the new physical rules of the universe Humanity has to learn and abide by.

This is honestly the only time that I actually quite like how movies and tv shows handle it. The superpower mental strain deal, bloody noses, and screaming.

To me, psionics should feel terrifying. So I guess more supernatural or eldritch horror.

I get psionics and psychic stuff slots well with the sci-fi asthetic but I can't get over how and why people freak out when you port it to fantasy as if psionics isn't just another aspect of the magic that is being used.

Why wouldn't a wizard know how to use telepathy to communicate with people, levitate things with his mind and all that jazz on top of jazz handing fireballs, demons, and angels and forcing them to have lesbian sex with each other for his amusement?
>>

I think it's mostly because for some reason people have this thought of "that's sci-fi not fantasy" and we didn't make that distinction before.

But for some reason there was a divide, and people get weird about mind flayers and think "what's that alien doing in my setting??" and... sure there's definitely influences but, that doesn't mean that you have to say no.

But also there's a line between true fantasy, and kitchen sink. I think Ravenloft is perfectly fine as fantasy, but Draw Steel is definitely kitchen sink. And I can't exactly explain why.

For all it's faults, the one thing I liked about 4e was that it gave the psychic aspect a very prominent place front and center.

Yeah, it was a weird decision to make the monk psionic but we had a whole ass race and monsters, and parts of a setting that supported it and didn't treat it as a side thing

I think it is interesting in D&D Psionic powers seem to manifest themselves with a big ol halo around the user's head.
>>
>>98375498
Manga has convinced me that psychometry is absolutely nuts if someone is good enough at it. My personal favorite is hypercognition though.

the dystopia rising books have psi powers. it's an unusual zombie dystopia in that all of humanity is infected with a fungal zombie virus that grants them psychic abilities
the trinity continuum has psychic powers, with the setting most centered on them being aeon, where humanity is undergoing a psychic renaissance in the future after dragging themselves out of a superhero apocalypse
>>
>>98377571
guess we know what YOU'D do with psychic powers eh?
>>
>>98381078
I typically associate the halo with the use of Ioun stones. You see it alot with other pieces of art like the Abolisher from Lords of Madness whose strutting off sword drawn after dropping two Grell

When playing "Modern Fantasy" is there a limit to how far you keep it Modern? I'm cool with a modern era right before cellphones, and I think it's because I don't want Psionics to be compared to cell phones.
