Which do you think is the best? Why?
>>98368493Waiting on the price but I think it's a fair intro, though some could've done with more heroes I like Beastmen and O&G tbhon
Beastmens look alright but I can not give a shit about yhe mode or the actual battalions they are associated with otherwise.
First for Beastmen, let's get that out the way.>TQI actually like that they're a sample platter of a bunch or different units within the army, even if they have to do some pretty jank unit sizes in some circumstances. For me the empire of man and high elves are the most appealing. Maybe the wood elves as well
>>98368562>Waiting on the pricewhat do poeple think the price will be?the HH boxes are £105 same as 40k combat patrolAoS Spearheads are £91
>TQdepends on the priceif they're priced liked battalion boxes, it's objectively a worse dealbut if they're priced like AoS spearheads then it's a decent deal, especially if you're into HEtheir battalion was hot garbage, don't even try to (you) me
I love the Wood Elfs but I just can't bring myself to start an army of them as long as they're tied to those fuckass Glade Guard models
>>98368612Why do eternal guard exist. They don’t fucking do anything.
>>98368612They're better than you think
>>98368612just grab some good glade guard
As somebody who doesn't play ToW but wants to start painting the models, I was looking forward to the Helves and Empire boxes.Unfortunately I don't like Flagellants or the sky cutter and chariot at all. I'm just not a big fan of chariot figures. I would have preferred some archers instead of the chariot. A cannon would have been awesome in the empire box but idk I guess it's hard to balance in Battle March. I hope Dwarfs get one with some slayers and thunderers.
>>98368493Raaroo!
>>98368658>ToWIT'S TOWTOWWHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE
>>98368663muscle memory from typing AoS
>>98368693or WoWor LoLor CoDor CoCor CoC
>>98368693It's more so that in 99.99% of initialisms/acronyms with three letters and an o in the middle, that o is going start for "of"
>>98368590battalions are £115 and will remain in production, so I would expect significantly less?
>>98368745Battalions are gone my lil retsrd
>>98368719god, we really need a modern HD remake of CoC that strips out all the awful furry OCs whales paid to have put in the game
>>98368746Warcom is known to lie I suppose? Wood Elves and Dorfs remain still. I'd expect new battalions unless they're lying.
>>98368748erhmm…c-corruption of champions?? o_0
>>98368493>TQI'd get the beastmen box but i already have like 20 warhounds and 2 of those brayshaman models
>>98368745Are these new battle march boxes supposed to be fomo? Otherwise I feel like it'd be pretty weird to have two permanent intro boxes per faction on offer
>>98368493>TQIt honestly crushes my hopes of having new Empire State Troops anytime soon.
>>98368833Counterpoint, if a Warhound army of infamy happens in 2.0 this is basically a once in a lifetime investment opportunity.
>>98368852it just means you'll get knightly orders first
>>98368833Make the warhounds unique for the Primal Warhounds in the wild herd.
>>98368612The glade guard look good if you use hooded heads, it's just the bare heads that are a bit derpy.
>>98368852They put soon to be refreshed units in discount boxes all the time anon. They just squatted gnoblars from the aos ogres despite putting a unit of the fuckers in their new spearhead last year.
>>98368857or new cannons and Free company militia
>>98368852looks like a fine box to finally get some empire model for my jade fleet.
>>98368892why the hell would they make new cannons? are you dumb?
>>98368924Nta but why the hell would they make new chaos warriors and knights?
Reposting from the end of the last thread:The beastmen box is basicaly half of what I wanted to start a new 6E army with, so if I got two of those, a box of minotaurs and something like a giant I'd have my 2000 points list.Is it worth it beast players or won't I cut it as a forest rapist with something like this (mark of nurgle on everything because I think monsters causing fear is cool):>beastlord on foot as the general (I like the model)>wargor as BSB, probably with an ambush boosting banner>two bray shamans, one with the stick that gives him the "charge out of ambush" spell>two beast heards (20 gors with two hand weapons and 10 ungors with spears and shields each) in ambush>two chaos hounds units to screen for minotaurs and bestigors>one unit of 20 bestigors running with the beastlord>one unit of 3 minotaurs>a chaos giant or dragon ogresI know I lack chariots but I just don't like those things, aesthetically.
>>98369015Beastchads are undivided only. Ambushing gors don't need to be 20 strong if your goal is to take out artillery and archers. Dragon ogres are probably the best unit in the army. Giant is a more fun/fluffy choice for bigger games. Minotaurs are kinda bad. Beastlord with bestigor bodyguard isn't super competitive but I really like it fluff and aesthetic wise and do it myself. Chariots are a pretty solid choice for the shaman. But I'm holding out hope for new plastic ones someday. The old 90's one is so bad.
So the new battlemarch book is out, and as expected, no rules for legends armies, does this prevent you from playing them? The muster rules seem like theyre just an example list if I'm not mistaken?
>>98369275>Beastlord with bestigor bodyguard isn't super competitive but I really like it fluff and aesthetic wise and do it myselfSame here, it just makes sense
>>98369322I like your paint scheme. I plan to do something really similar as tribute to my gray/white cat who passed away last year.
>>98369310Shut the fuck up Rob
>>98369335Can't wait to see it Anon, i'm sorry about your cat.
>>98369310They are just example lists. Read the book.Nothing stops you from making your own lists.Legends armies are only legends armies if you treat them that way. So, don't.
>>9836927510 ambush gors with 2w in skirmish do a ton of work against gun lines too since at minimum they turn them around and shoot at a 80 pt unit, or risk getting ripped apart. And while Dragon ogres are the best unit, I do think Razorgors are the best unit for their points. Centigors are vastly underrated. And yeah suicide shaman can hit 10 attacks at strength 10 + all the chariot stuff. Fun stuff.
>>98368852State troops are fine. The body with bare feet is annoying, but besides that, they are still decent models. The archers are the best empire troops tho.
>>98369402>suicide shamanoh, also Ap 3.
>>98368852You could try Highlands, Reptilian Overlords, or Last Sword.
>>98369402I'd really like new centigor models. I've also considered a centigor hero ambushing by himself. Seems like he could hunt artillery pieces and weaker monsters with a spear. I've also considered allying in marauder horsemen from WoC to get some fast cav support. Hoping the upcoming soup list is decent. I think ideally I'd pad with WoC guys to flesh out the army and then try to get pure beastmen over time as I painted more. I have some 3D printed razorgors I've wanted to try out. Will report results at some point. Work keeps having emergencies during TOW meetups.
>>98369275>Beastchads are undivided onlyMy favorite mark lorewise but I love the idea of causing fear, although khorne got a cool mark too.>Minotaurs are kinda bad.Oh come on, say it isn't so. I like those guys and their old models, I wanted them to be my monster killers with two handed weapons. Thanks to nurgle they'd also have a 4+ to hopefully stop some arrows.
>>98368852I wonder if GW has the molds for the Y2K era Empire state troops in the basement somewhere. A MTO of those would probably sell pretty well. I've been considering selling mine on Ebay. Seems like Empire has a pretty dedicated following of middle aged guys with professional careers and some money to throw around.
Made a start on the Cathay half of the core box and holy shit are the sprues over-designed. Don't think anything in it is less than 8 pieces, that's twice as many compared to any older kits. Alsp the total lack of options is concerning isn't it? Looks like they'll phase out options like they have in every other game.
Spotted Vince Venturella on the drum.
>>98369441Warhoof with throwing axes and mangelder is amazing ambush, and i add the mutation to get the -1 to be shot. Add in a unit of 6-8 centigors with throwing axes and great weapons and a champion with scourge of the burdened. Run them in skirmish for 360 view in case they roll frenzy.Get only 5 for the free ambush if in wildherd, and add the monster hunter banner if you want to kill bigger stuff. Tons of options, and all of them good.
>>98369460>USHORAN GET DO-
>>98368833I'm in a similar boat. I have two bray shamans as well, and I don't like the warhound models, so I use spiders as proxies instead.
Sold the Cathay side of the new core set for 120$ lads.
>>98368833>>98369492While I usually hate the idea, just make some WYSIWYG bray shamans. One with a Skin of Man, another with a Chalice so it can be either plague chalice or dark rain chalice.
>>98368852Maybe they'll figure out shoes in another 20 years.
>>98369506I'm surprised people are buying it for that amount
>>98369516Maybe its canadian toy money.
>>98369625could be Australian or New Zealand Dollars as well
>>98369456The marauders are newer than any of the Cathay stuff in the core box and have 3 different weapon loadouts out of the box. 4 if you consider no shield another loadouts. Relax.
>>98369625The official term is canuck bucks, you philistine.
>>98369625Sorry I should have been more specific, yea it was our leaf bucks, this box cost $240 CAD($170USD)so I sold the cathay for $120($85USD).
>>98369642Cuck bucks
Bros...I bought the box.
>>98369514More beastman than the actual beastmen, wtf. Look at the face.
>>98369789it's a good box
>>98369829It could have been better
Finished assembling/cleaning up this unit of Sellsword Crossbowmen for my Renegade Crowns projectI've used the kneeling pose from several archers kits to get the tiered ranks like they're firing over each other all at once
>>98368612I have never felt so jelly as kid me did watching my brothers woodelves get the coolest archer models ever while my shitty highelves look like fat old babushkas. And the dudes with double ended spears are so hot.
>>98369514I think I've only ever used this one as part of a mordheim warbandIMO basic units should be relatively generic so the individual modeller can tailor them to the army themeIn this case, the sculptors must have had stirland in mind
>>98369879They look amazing anon good stuff
Why I never saw online a mournfang leadbelcher cavalry conversion?? I can't be the only one who thought about how cool they lookToo bad leadbelcher are now oop and I can't find them at discount
>was looking for a possible crash course on Fantasy lore>most common answer is just to read Gotrek and Felix for a “crash course” on Fantasy loreDamn I better stop procrastinating and crack that tome open.
>>98370087Read the god damn core rulebooks and the army books! It's not hard! You can get through the important bits of each rule/army book in 15 minutes if you try! They're in the OP!Stop taking shortcuts! >Own a small Beastmen force from WHFB.>Like the lore.>Dislike the idea of only having Ungors and the Cygor for missile attacks.>Also dislike hordes. What do?
>>98370355wait until the army gets souped with warriors of chaos and it solves none of your issues because you are a bitch.
>>98370355>>Also dislike hordes.Join the minotaur herd and trample motherfuckers
>>98370360That is what I bought them for with my Warriors and Daemons back in the Hordes of Chaos days.
>>98370360I always felt conflicted about chaos groupingPart of me thinks it makes more sense thematically for an army to be grouped by gods. Like a beastman of Khorne and a warrior of khorne working together makes more logical sense than a demon of khorne and a demonette working together. On the other hand it loses its identity when they get souped
>>98370329What a retarded post
is marienburger paint scheme difficult?
Just painted some warriors, 26 more models and I'll have my 3rd army done (not what I wanted but fully painted 2k nonetheless)
>>98370433It has yellow, blue and red. Red and blue is very easy, yellow can be tricky and a pain if you get other paitns over it.But overall not that hard, just tedious.
>>98370345>AI slop, paintjob could really do with some depth, coomer models. You bring the rest of the beastmen players here down, and that isn't an easy thing to do.Just get some models to practice painting first to get started and maybe you can improve on your slop.
>>98370524Looking good there chaosbro.
>>98370524Very impressive, anon. I'm usually not a fan of highlighting black armour with steel, but you made it work. Good stuff. Show us the whole army when it's done!
According to the latest WD the only times the great bastion has been breached were actually part of meow ying's plan to trap the marauders
>>98370524What colors did you use for the cloak on the musician of the group?
>>98370329What does that even have to do with anything
>>98370570Red cloaks are nothing more than khorne red > mephiston red > evil suns scarlet (all mixed with each other a little bit) then washed slightly with black and with crude hatching made with evil suns scarlet and a little bit of orange
The new Chaos Knights are just as spikey as the old ones.
>>98369446If you want to include some minotaurs, you could try one or two units of 2 models each, and use them like targeted missiles. Beyond something like that, they struggle to make their points back.
>>98370565That was the story in Breaching of the Grand Bastion.I'm pretty sure parts of it have collapsed after the Slann moved the continents and been breached before.
>>98370345Awaken, Mustakrakish
>>98370536Sounds like a wild combination. Can this look good?
>>98370702Try building the former Chaos Knights as a break from building Ravagers and Raiders.

>>98370087Gotrek & Felix(decline in quality with each author, don't read the ET books unless you're a siggypiggy and don't care they wipe their arse with pretty much every major character) are a decent place to start with lots of perspective on the Empire and Dwarf societies and information about the stuff that gets [thing]slain.I also recommend:-Florin & Lorenzo(trilogy + shorts, rogueish Bretonnian merchant & buddy/thug go on adventures), first book is adventures in Lustria with a mercenary army, then journey into the East and gives a fun perspective on Ogres, with some general vibes about the less Hon Hon Hon Le Knightly Lords and Crusty Peasants side of Bretonnia.-Anglelika Fleischer(trilogy + shorts, cynical grouchy battlefield corpserobber with a heart of gold who falls in with a young Imperial nobleman she reluctantly saves from some Orcs by tricking them into fighting each other instead). Decent look at the fringes of human society, with bits of detail about Averland, Blackfire Pass, and the Border Princes. Also manages to have an assertive female protagonist who fucks around while not making her a flawless girlboss who can fight Ogres 1v1 and win, and without simply ignoring the reality of what life for most women would be like in a society like the Empire like modern Warhammer does by just shoving modern gender equality into the setting without justification.Together with Gotrek & Felix that should give you a decent handle on the main human(protagonist) factions and how they see their enemies. Beyond that it depends how big a taste you have for pulp fiction, just start working your way through the stuff on the wikipedia list based on what factions you like and avoid anything to do with End Times.
>>98370850I'd say a fair amount. Backstory on the general and 3 most powerful leaders under her >>98370345, the reason she's fighting the way she is, why the slaanesh army is terrorism themed instead of sex themed, why the herdstones are black fountains, and I've built terrain specifically to use in battles for it. >>98370850I've been using them as the main bad guys in a WFRP adventure, so quite a bit.

>>98369335was this meme originally intended for wolves/dogs ? feels like it but I never saw it before ?
>>98368493I think they're pretty good, I think the Beastmen one will be the best due to the nature of the format as I envision it (smaller boards, less shooting, no monsters).I'm a little sad if those leaks were true about the Dwarf BM list from the leaked book but I dunno if that's a real list that they'd sell.At least it's not like set lists and you can bring whatever, though I do wish they'd limit certain skewing profiles.I don't need to worry too much about it though, since my factions don't have boxes for it (yet)
>>98371412That doesn't make any sense. That's like saying fall once, stand twice.

>>98371783Trade them all for chaos warriors
Fantasy Landsknechts are the coolest concept in the entire genre of fantasy, and that's why the Empire is so kino
>>98371807Chaos Warriors are responsible for Age of Reprobates and are worthy only of the bin.
>>98371808This. I was drawn into WHFB because of the fantasy HRE vibes, instead of just generic medieval fantasy.

>>98371871That's hardly fair, anon. Chaos warriors didn't make AoS happen, GW did.Chaos exploding the world was retarded, by the way. That went directly against their word-of-God wants and desires. The point of Chaos, the win condition, was infecting the world and making it an extension of the Realm of Chaos, not blowing it up. You can't play the great game on a planet that doesn't exist anymore! Ergo, latin, blame GW, not Chaos. Also, it's literally Mannfred's fault.
>>98370087Seriously man, do what this guy said >>98370107 and just read the fluff sections of the core book and army books. It's a far better way to learn the setting that reading tie in fiction where you won't get half of what's happening because you skipped the part of learning of the over all setting they're based in.
>>98371942I mean I don't know what would make sense because I haven't played the game before and don't know how an army should be built and why
>>98371997Have you read the books that came with the new core set? The battle March set?The list in the battler march group, the core set, is a good base to begin with, General, BSB, basic troops, cavalry, and a canon, them maybe add a wizard of sorts, some gun/bows for range, more troops and more cavalry more arty's always good.I admit I do not know Cathay that much, but it's Empire just asiatic and more pushed to the front
I haven't looked at the Old World rules yet but I'm interested in the Warriors of Chaos. I like warriors and knights and I'd like a giant and maybe some trolls as well. Are there any terrible units that you recommend I stay away from?
>>98372108Is this bait?
>>98372108Warriors in their current form are pretty bad from a points cost--to-effectiveness ratio. At least they were. The new rules might breathe some life into them with the new models.

>>98372108Stay away from any unit with so many spikes it physically hurts to move.
>>98372108Coming from Empire and Beastmen, they're still pretty decent; HW+shield's gives them good protection, base AP-1 and magic weapons, reroll on fear terror panic, and options to focus, granted for a cost, good stats for a human character too,
If I understand it correctly, once Settra joins a unit of Tomb Guard chariots, that unit loses Reserve Move, since Settra himself doesn't have it.That's really lame.
>>98368661The conversion and fluff are lovely
>>98371966The army books give people a completely warped perspective of the setting though. Not only are they all written to cheerlead the faction, they gloss over 99% of the setting and focus mostly on battles, and then on battles that are objectively completely outliers relative to the everyday reality of the setting.Reading only armybook fluff is how you get abominable Flanderized garbage like Total Warhammer.
Where do we go to talk about Warhammer Fantasy and other games now that this place is dead? Where has everyone gone?
How's the Old World? I used to play Fantasy a long time ago and, now that I finally have some free time again, want to get back into the game.
>>98372321its a well known fact that when people actually play they dont post as much
>>98372329It feels mostly like an improved version of 6th. Though GW is trying to make infantry more viable with stuff like Parry, which is just 6th's Sword and Board rule.Monster Lords are still strong but being limited to a 3+ save max has toned them down a lot.Fall Back in Good Order and Give Ground are by far the best additions to morale.Don't let anyone complain about Linehammer. That's good and dead. There are always things to complain about, but GW is actually actively fixing things as it goes. Albeit much slower than its mainline games like 40k and Sigmar. And as someone who plays a Legacy faction (Skaven, Orgres, Lizards, Delfs, Chorfs, Vampire Counts) I have to rely of third-party fan rules to make my army better because the PDF GW made for each of them just plain sucks.
>>98372329You're never going to find a definitive answer anywhere. I've played the game since 6th edition and I've found there are a lot of oldfags that think TOW is heresy and the creators and their families should burn to the ground. Some of them say the game having faqs every six months makes them have to re-learn the whole thing where, in fact, there has only been one big faq and it wasn't that big of a learning curve. There are others who played fantasy and play TOW and 8th or 6th depending on who they play against and are okay with every edition coexisting. To me, TOW looks a lot like 8th with a few new stuff. Some stuff I like better, other stuff I don't like so much. I like the magic system being divided into phases instead of one single magic phase, but I don't like how the majority of offensive spells feel like hitting someone with a wet noodle. But yeah overall it's pretty similar to 8th edition.
>>98372350I dunno, the biggest thing I loathed about 8th was that magic was so overpowered that it felt like you NEEDED a level 4 wizard and at least one other level 1 or 2 for channeling and dispelling or else you'd get shitstomped by your opponent.I agree that a some of the offensive magic in TOW is a bit weak, at least it doesn't feel NECESSARY to bring a wizard. Though against beastmeme players spamming Viletide...

>>98369460>halloooo everybodydoes look like him, just needs to be printed scaled up on the Z axis>>98372413they're reptilian overlords minis (STLs) with a smattering of GW heads. I think the battle standard in the back is fully custom.reptilian overlords STL kits are great btw, fully modular and very few printing issues. the holy reptilian empire range has a bunch of different infantry and mounted units, and a few characters.
>>98372329TOW is like a greatest hits edition of Fantasy that is most closely related to 6th edition. It’s got some massive improvements over older editions (giving ground and falling back in good order causing a more natural back and forth) and very few drawbacks. The only thing I don’t like that they changed is how they simplified the magic system, but I can live with that considering the game itself is still firmly WHFB otherwise.
>>98372329It’s dogshit. 8th is much, much more fun and has more reactivity, but even then it’s still a gw game so you’re not playing a good game. I think the game desperately needs to embrace alternating actions to actually be good.
>>98372538>>98372689Imagine spending literally months of your free time over the past few years here still doing this. Never change my tiny lolcow.
Snagrog scowled as he looked accross the field. Before him lay a contingent of Stunties, lined up in their shiny armour and dragging their filthy beards with them. Behind lay a devastated village of humies. They had not out up much of a fight but plenty of loot and grub!"What we gonna do boss?" Grimtoof the beleagured black orc glanced at Snagrog, who cuffed him across the jaw to remind him of his place. Snagrog could see the Stunty boss on his big shield and if he looked hard enough, saw dead 'ard looking stunties with their big hammers. They'd be a good fight. As Grimtoof picked himself up, Snagrog grumbled."Get your boyz all lined up, and tell dem wolfies we gotz some stunties ter kill. Grotfang too, da mad git could do with grub for his pigs""Wat bout de trolls?" Grimtoof pointed at the three loping creatures who had appeared soon after the village was burned. They had eaten a few of the smaller runts and seemed keen for more food.Snagrog grinned to himself. "I'z got a plan."
Got a few thousands of points of orcs and goblins laying around at my parents' place. Got them as a parting gift when my cousin passed away and never did anything with them. Which edition should I play them in if I want to have the most fun? I've heard they get rid of animosity in TOW and that makes them a bit dull

>>98372689No need to make shit up now.8th was dogshit.
>>98372801It had its charm. Im sure a no-games like you cant recognize that. I much prefer its magic and hordes to the hero-hammer dogshit that 6th had.
>>98372779They're still fun without animosity man. Its the units which make it fun.
>>98372807Whatever helps you sleep at night. We know you started at 8th.
>>98372746Da Plan had worked. Mostly.Grimtoof's crazy boars had managed to flank the stunty king and his hammer boyz while Snagrog and his big unz had crashed into their front. The trolls had, unfortunately decided to pick their noses. Dumb gits. The fighting was ferocious. The clashing of weapons, blood splatters and wailing of the dead and dying was deafening. The Stunty hammerers had taken terrible casualties from Grotfsng's crazy boars while Snagrog's ladz careened into their front. Shoving his way through the melee, gutting a stunty in the process, Snagrog roared a challenge to the stunty king. Snagrog swung madly, striking the King several times, denting his armour and shedding blood. The King retaliated, his great rune axe tearing into Snagrog's hide. His extra shiny armour saved him however, barely, its undented steel deflecting a fatal blow. The shield carrying dwarfs failed to pierce his hide. The Hammerers withdrew, falling back in good order, Snagrog holding his boyz to prepare another charge. Unfortunately Grotfang's Boarz in their frenzy pursued. It was in moments they were crushed into a bloody mess as the hammerwrs and king wiped them out. Grimtoof the Beleagured had met the Longbeards in melee and was struggling, neither side breaking but grinding them down. However the long beard stunties were nigh unkillable, while the orc numbers kept them in the fight.Snagrog spat. He had been injured and could see the Dwarf King preparing to receive another charge. A groan emmitted to his side and he noted the Trolls had finally found the sense to fight.
TOW looks cool but I don't like the new magic lores
how is the legend lizardmen list ? i'm debating pulling the trigger on an army using the aos models
>>98372855It’s bad.
>>98372833This was the end. There were only two Hammerers left with the Stunty King. The big uns and trolls had devastated them, though the big un boss had been killed in a challenge by the Hammerers. Snagrog had slain 3 hammerers and the trolls vomit melted a large part of the kings armour. They had lost their magic banner too and they fell back once more. Snagrog and the King met one final time. His Choppa raised and withva great WAAAGH, it tore into the Stunty King's chest, toppling him from his shield. The Hammerers threw themselves before the King, while his bearers dragged him from the field. A crazed lone stunty slayer gave ground, but was devoured by the trolls. Snagrog glanced over the bodies of the now decimated stunties and saw Grimtoof had been cut down and the Longbeards were locked in combat still with the ladz."ONE LAST CHARGE LADZ! WAAAAAGGHH"The greenskins took the day after a bloody fight. Massive losses on both sides but a good scrap.

Are there any recasters that do grave guard?I want to start a VC force but can't find any 3d prints that look similar to the old grave guard. Don't really like any of the AoS skeleton sculpts either
Just ordered the TOW core set at a very good price. It’s going to take over a week to get here but I am very hyped to get started.
Besides the obvious like artillery and scatter dice, templates and measuring tape - what accessories are needed or simply useful to have to play TOW? I'm toying with designing counters and tokens for 40k but I'm slowly switching to TOW and I want to design and print myself all the necessary gubbins beforehand.
>>98373141Spell cards or markers of some sort are helpful to keep track of which spell is active on which unit, because they vary in terms of length of effect. You could also use wound markers if you really wanted to but most people just use dice because it’s quite rare for something to have more than 7 wounds.
>>98372784Perfect place for pikes: the shitty skirmish game where half an army is just centerpiece figures and units are locked to 10 because GW hates player choice that may upset the balance of a game that they desperately want to treat like an esport.
>>98373483AoS is all about aesthetics and vibes, there’s not meant to be any substance or thought put into it, by design
What are the odds chaos warriors aren’t going to be complete shit anymore with furious charge and the 6+ ward?
Is there a significant difference between skeleton skirmishers and bowmen in tomb kings roster? Both have arrows of asaph, skirmishers are, well skirmishers and can ambush. What's the benefit of bowmen over them?
>>98373560I stand by the fact they are weren't bad to begin with. Not great, not optimal but not terrible. They were armoured and had awesome staying power. Won't win games solo but tough as nails.
>>98373591When they inevitably get charged, since you have 20+ of them they basically stone brick for at minimum one turn so your dudes can counter charge into a flank. It makes them one of the better ranged units because they kind of take care of themselves by simply being too expensive to commit resources too especially since, as skeletons, they can be rezed super quickly. Only dwarf crossbow/rifles are better at receiving a charge and its cause they can fight back after taking it.
>>98373629I just want them to be decent to good so I can justify bringing them. My box should be here in a few days and I can’t wait to paint them up
>>98373560As it currently stands, chaos warriors serve exactly 2 roles in competitive play: Tzeentch bunkers with the Taskmaster's Scourge and 4-5 sorcerers/sorcerer lords, and anvils. The ward save makes them better at being an anvil, Furious Charge does absolutely nothing relevant for them because they're still infantry and infantry doesn't get to charge anything. The ward save arguably makes Battle Magic less relevant in a Tzeentch bunker, but you'd still take it for Arcane Urgency, though I think people are seriously sleeping on the lore of the Shadowlands with regards to bunkers. That reserve move spell can be very effective if your bunker only exists to dominate the magic phase. This all being said, Furious Charge makes the Battle Hunger, Banner of Rage/Mark of Khorne, and Taskmaster's Scourge setup a lot better, but that's already not something people were really doing when they were playing to win. Three attacks on the charge with a mini-swiftstride is fun.
>>98373500If that were true they wouldn't look like a cheap Tenu parody of Warhammer.
>>98373669Anon, unless you are in a hyper competitive local scene with exclusive tourney list nutjobs, they are at a minimum a viable option. Hell I'd argue they still are in the former. It is also ok to ask in advance you are looking for a more casual / relaxed battle and if you really want to show this, explain you are not taking certain units and taking others like CW.

An error on GW's webstore when trying to order the MTOs lead to more than two weeks of contacting support and my bank, but I finally got my money back. Lesson learned, don't buy from GW directly.
>>98376671>Any advice you can share? Not any great advice, I lost almost every game I played. But, while I did harp on pikes being underwhelming they are a good pick for flank protection. They do still scare most players from attempting a move against them from that 20 attack shock factor, and when supported can make for a good battleline for the army. Two big units for flank detail(25ish models) or 3 moderately sized units for the core of a battle line(20 odd models to have full static res and absorb some shooting/close combat casualties) depending on how you want to go. I have found some success with using them in an offensive capacity, you lose just one rank of attacks with them on the charge, but that's still a lot of attacks coming out that play into the whole shock value of them. I've had a few games go my way just from the reaction focusing on a unit of pikes pushed forward opening the rest of their army to support charges from my cavalry units.Duellists are a very nice buy for the points, options, and stats. Skirmishers were fairly strong in 6th and could do a lot for their role. Your cavalry, both light and heavy, are very good value for points and are a good core to build a list around for speed, redirection, and flanking potential. Your special units can do a lot of heavy lifting and shouldn't be slept on, norsemen are great for their frenzy and combat capability as a count attack force. And the dwarfs and paymaster's bodyguard are very good for anchoring a line, the dwarfs especially are a quite versatile if expensive unit, they are slow still so need to be planned around. Your regiments of renown are also something to consider, they may have a rather eye watering initial points cost but they are in fact pretty fairly costed for their roles and that they're carrying a hero level character inside them.I'm rambling and losing focus, I hope any of this has been helpful.

>>98376957russia fucking sucks.

A few times now I've tried to convince myself to get into Old World (Because unlike old WHFB I actually know people that play it) but I just find all the factions so uninspiring to model and paint, so I never get past making a lot of models. Those of you who are into converting or making yourdudes, what factions/ideas most grabbed your attention?
>>98377146I’m kind of stuck in the same boat. I like to daydream about it but ultimately I find it uninspiring. I wish the rules actually incentivize making your dudes.
>>98377146>but I just find all the factions so uninspiring to model and paintis it the actual hobby aspect that stops you or that no faction theme or aesthetic scratches your own specific taste? because there are solutions to both
>>98377146Chaos!Even if you're not very good at sculpting or you don't really have a lot of experience converting your models, you can just paint Chaos models to look however you want them to look. If you want them to be simple and boring, you can make them simple and boring. If you want them to be complex and whacky, you can make them complex and whacky. Making your own Chaos warband is also just fun in general. Anyone can worship Chaos. Make of that what you will. However, if you don't like any of the armies, the game might just not be for you. That's nothing to be ashamed of, you know.Well, maybe it's a little shameful. Out of a dozen different armies, you couldn't find even one you liked? How picky are you? What do you like?
what's a good citadel green for a heraldic/knight theme? i'm going to a warhammer store to pick up an order later so i'm just going to grab some greens to play with while I'm there
>>98377146I've seen full conversion armies many times. Played in a tournament in 7th ed where a guy hand sculpted with clay and painted an entire ent army specifically to use as replacements for ogres. Tyrant, bulls, leadbelchers, the whole deal.If you want to do your dudes you certainly can, just pick an army who's rules you like and go nuts.
>>98377169>>98377183No faction theme or aesthetic really scratches my specific taste. I played a little bit of Fantasy years and years ago and have a real enduring love for Vampire Counts and the more fleshy varieties of Chaos(I don't care for WoC anywhere near as much as say, daemons). I know of course I could just run a daemons army and say it's Warriors or Beastmen but I like the rules to fairly closely reflect the lore/aesthetics of my armies if that makes sense? I'm also aware of the Legacy rules but I'd prefer to play something with rules that are likely to stay updated.Maybe I am very picky lol.
>>98377215So you do like some of the Fantasy armies. This is good! For what it's worth, the legacy rules are not only accepted but outright lauded by the overwhelming majority of the playerbase. No-one will deny you a game if you bring your VC or your daemons or any of the "legacy" armies (they really deserve to just be called armies with no qualifiers before or after them) to the table. The Vampire Counts specifically are also really really strong in TOW right now, so if you want to play them you won't get stomped by the other "core" (a loathsome word if there ever was one) armies. Also, those legacy rules are being updated, just not by GW. Members of the community have been releasing "Renegade" army rules for dark elves, daemons, skaven, chaos dwarfs, and so on, and they're also accepted by the overwhelming majority of the community. If you want to play VC or daemons, do so without hesitation, anon. They're going to be and have been updated. Don't be bound by GW's nonsense. They blew up the world, remember? Fuck 'em. The community is in charge now, as it should have always been.
>>98377215the easiest solution is using tomb kings rules for vampires thenYou've got your undead rules, you've got a dragon, you've even got a fluff link between the factions via the lhamians if you don't want the egyptian theme to be completely overwritten but I guess when you say vampire counts you want specifically the gothic thick goths and knights in red armor
>>98377215Just pick a mini range, edition, and art style you do like, then make an army or two for that for your own pleasure and private games, and then stick it on adapter trays for games of TOW when the time comes. It's what I do. If I could only play TOW and only use official retail GW miniatures then the hobby would be a lot less big of a part of my life these days.>I'd prefer to play something with rules that are likely to stay updatedTo each their own, but knowing what GW does with its rules updates, that sounds like my worst nightmare lol.
>>98376991you sound like a trumptard lolmaybe TOW is too complex for you
>>98376845Thanks, anon. I know dwarfs are an excellent choice for an anvil (and maybe Ill had some in the future), norsemen im unsure since frendy means they can be pulled out of position. Would they be better with greatweapons or with shield and hand weapon? Also, here's another hireling sorcerer Ive painted (who will use lore of Heavens or Light) called Sallah ibn Yubayr ibn Fadlan (still have to flesh his fluff out)
>>98377215Daemons have community rules updates and events almost always use comp too. The Fantasy/Old World scene does not play lapdog to GW the way 40k players do.

>>98376723I have mixed feelings. On one hand Kislev being more pan-slavic and toning down the high fantasy "bear and ice and bears" aspects from TWW is good, but retconning characters is stupid, and I don't like how TOW is handling magic lores in general.>>98376730Hopefully they treat them more like griffons in the Empire: still there as a monstrous mount option and a visual motif but not everywhere in the faction.
>>98377593Just in case you're not aware, The Old World Roleplaying Game and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay are two different games with different systems, tone and so on. WFRP is the classic one, d100 grimy investigation and so on. Set in the "modern" Warhammer Fantasy timeline of WFB. The Old World is some centuries earlier, the system is a simpler dice pool thing and the game is more heroic adventure focused.WFRP's most popular editions are 2nd and 4th, which is the most recent though there is a 5th edition coming "soon".

>>98370087It's funny that that's the advice given when writers for warhammer fantasy stuff were explicitly told not to use stuff from Gotrek and Felix because of how inaccurate it is on the lore. Easiest thing is to read the core books, people will reccomend different editions to you so I guess pick the edition you most like the vibe off (or go Old World core book if you just want the most 'up to date' version of the lore). Then read the army book of whichever faction appeals to you, the various campaign books they put out, etc..
>>98370355Minotaur Hordes, they're pretty shit competitively but that shouldn't matter unless you're a WAACfag. You aren't a WAACfag, are you anon?
>>98377970Not a WAACfag, but I like the idea of sheets of arrows falling from the skies, while war machines throw devastation into enemy ranks and the deathly pall of gunsmoke and roar of fire drowns out the enemy screams.
>>98376723>>98377655>make new kislev more mudcore by taking away the reddit chungus bears and high fantasy ice shit and TW aspects>make cathay exactly like the TW version with plenty of high fantasy quirky shit, reddit chungus tiger people and anime tier overpowered dragon charactersWho the fuck make the decisions for this game ? Why do they take such divergent aesthetic directions for two different armies ?>I don't like how TOW is handling magic lores in generalrulewise or in terms of lore ? because in the second case, I actually appreciate the way the Winds are handled in a more subtle and less rigid way, with a different system of specialization which goes back to the roots warhammer magic back in the early editions
Love these dudes. One of my favorite kits ever.
>>98378204>>make cathay exactly like the TW version with plenty of high fantasy quirky shit, reddit chungus tiger people and anime tier overpowered dragon charactersWhat the fuck are you talking about? You have Tigermen miniatures? There's 1 dragon lady and a bunch of people who have dragon blood in them but look like normal people? The Sentinels aren't glowing magical shite either like they are in TWW.
>>98378204>whyThey’re trying to get changs interested in warhammer and nobody likes russia. It’s simple.
>>98378239They are fun and whimsical, peak whfbMy problem was I never understood how to use them correctly. Like when I think light cavalry I think "hit and run" attacks but the structure of the game doesn't allow that and I don't think either have mechanics for that with IGOUGO
>>98378285>My problem was I never understood how to use them correctlythey are bait to pull your enemy to charge them and then counter charge with your actual hammer. Bonus points if you run when chargedIf they ignore them you get free poke shots.
Would it be too "I'm not like the other girls" to paint all my demons in greyscale and say they are demons of Mahal? Really this is just to have a demon army that has a cohesive shadowy look
>>98378204I prefer the original 8 lores. They felt more flavorful and distinctive.
>>98378496The current magic system for TOW predates the eight winds stuffGo look at WFB 1st through to 3rd edition and they are useing the same shit as TOW does

I'll be sad if Kislev loses bear cav and ice guard, that's the only remotely interesting about them. It's almost funny to see slavcucks seething about Kislev too. They actually think their shitty culture could sell models on its own without fantasy stuff
What do you guys think about mixing in a few guys per unit with the arrows stuck into the ground ( for faster firing ). I know they are supposed to be peasants but I feel like being peasants they might be used to sticking in arrows like that for convenience during training?
>>98378618I like it! Variety is fun!
>>98377970Minotaurs are meh, but the doombull is a legit killing machine that can almost take on anything

>>98376723>all mention of Ice Magic remplaced by "Elemental Magic">in the same way ,"Ice Witches" becomes "Elementalists" or just "Witches"Probably because they are adding lore of Ice + lore of Tempest (like in TWW3).>>98376850Yes, they are like (Dark Elves) Shades but for Kislev. In game lore mention them to be some "secret military" force, concept art from.Fun fact, there is concept art of them looking like something very different.
>>98378628Yeah, Doombulls are dragon tier. Id argue Shaggoths too.
>>98378615I dislike the ice trail on the sleds, but most exaggerate how bad WH3 Kislev is.
>>98378645Why would a bunch of Slavs use Kunai?Certainly a change in design; wonder what GW didn't like about it
>>98378666Some things are great, the armored kossars and tsar guard look great in terms of aesthetics. The ice guard would be good if they had normal bows and not magical ice bows. Then some stuff is fucking awful like the magical ice sled trails and the giant Ice B*ar Elemental.
>>98378704>Kislev is so big, we have everything

What is the most fun empire city/province color scheme to paint? I’m thinking of trying Altdorf, but Talabecland and Ostermark look fun too.
Do you reckon the battle marches' exclusion of goblins suggests a rework of their kit? I don't believe it because the riders are basically the same kit
>>98378618No one sticks arrows like that, it blunts the end and stresses the glue joint It works for retard peasants I guess but only really Brets who look like they chop watermelons in their parents back yard
>>98378814No, I think they just replaced goblins with boar boys to make a more attractive box compared to the batallion from a list building and playability standpoint.
>>98378814New Night Goblins was a random rumour from a while ago
Will 2x Empire Battle March set be a decent starter army?
>>98378852That'd be for AoS surely? They don't have regular goblins, just night goblins
>>98378645Sounds like theyre based on the Oprichniki/OprechinaIvan the Terribles secret police to keep his nobles oppressed would go around with severed dogs heads and shit (which might have influenced the bear heads helmets).
>>98378806It is the one which you paint, do it with love for the little lads who will carry such colour on the field in your name.

>>98379038>>98378239All of them on my plate.
>>98378769But do they have fuel?
>>98378615Bear cav "on their own" are fine. The issue is the bear sleds (and the ice on those sleds). In game terms: Having bear cav as a rare choice (or even special, thats what demigryphs are) wouldnt be beyond the pale, having beards pull all their war-sleds? Garbage. Ice guard are great (even if they would 100% have to be rare on the TT)

>>98378882It's worse than just trying to find a battalion box but it's not terrible You will need to buy some cannons though

>>98378941>Riding black horses and led by Ivan himself, the group terrorized civilian populations. Sometimes called the cromeshnina (selected) because they were a hand-picked body,[32] the oprichniki dressed in black garb, similar to a monastic habit, and carried attached to their saddles a severed dog's head (to sniff out treason and enemies of the Tsar), or an actual wolf's head and a broom (to sweep them away).Oprichniki should be cavalry with Fear or some other effect based on leadership.
>>98379068Bears pulling sleds imo is within the acceptable territory of Warhammer stupidity. It’s the magical ice that’s egregious. I imagine when the kit comes out they’ll make it a dual horse/bear sled build like the high elf chariot.
>>98379608That could also work. But their thing as "secretive internal police meant to keep the nobles in line" does very much like up (and the name also feels like a nod, akshina/oprichina)
>>98379169Some hobby stores aren't any better than GW especially if they are the only one in the area. But for the most part they are pretty good in my experience. Sorry you got a poor one, anon. Check online and see if there are any cheaper ones along your travel plans.
I’m already bored by Kislev based on these retcons. They don’t make it any more interesting it’s just more of the fucking same. Crickey I’m almost going to miss the tww Kislev.
>>98376957It's a bit weird to have a Russian inspired Warhammer faction be so maligned because of NPCs hatred of the latest bogeyman, ie. Western European states sentiment towards the Russian government. Kislev isn't inspired by post Soviet modern Russia, it's inspired by historical Russia and Cossacks, Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Historical Russia is a fascinating and culturally rich place, and had a very strong Christian culture and is responsible for saving Europe from Napoleon. It's very absurd to hate historical Russia, who was the victim of the soviet revolution, for the perceives crimes of the Soviet and post Soviet governments in the modern era. When Games Workshop first introduced Kislev it was literally during the Cold War communist era, and yet even then they didn't harbor the resentment towards historical Russia that modern NPCs do. >>98376967Polish and Russian are both vastly superior to more fantasy ice bear slop. But when people are talking about "polish culture" they are specifically thinking of tropes from the eastern Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth, whose territory was annexed by Russia in the late 1700s. ie, it's Russian.

>>98376232Yeah, I asked because it felt like a 6th edition mini to me; detailed and nicely-proportioned compared to earlier stuff, but not as overblown as later stuff or with the size-creep of the new TOW minis, plus it has a better pose than the 7th edition Empire General kit.
>>98379971WFRP1e had it's own version of Kislev from the Something Rotten in Kislev adventure which has a lot of lore for it though I think most of it was retconned afterwards

>>98379924The satanic panic is massively overrepresented in modern pop culture, it was never actually a very big deal. The average parent living in the 80s never even heard the words satanic panic, or even knew what DnD was for example. Pure historical revisionism
>>98377015Why hey anon. It's alright, there was no great urgency on it, and I could wait. Thanks a lot for the pics, mate! I'll be going through them.

>>98379068>>98379664And this is how the Flanderization ruins things over time, slowly boiling the frog until terrible taste is simply the norm.ONE GUY rode a bear originally in Kislev. One. The Tzar, and a specific named Tzar at that, it was a particular aspect of that character and his own story. Then the boiling begins, and eventually you end up with people arguing whether the point where it all gets too silly is whether or not the Bearsled with Bearcannon pulled by Warbears escorted by whole regiments of Bear Riders has magical iceskates or not.I wish I could travel back in time and murder everyone involved with TWWH and TOW getting approved, then at least we'd only have to cope with the moderate retardation of 7th+ instead of the colossal fuckwitted mongoloidation of nuhammer.
>>98380110It was a small group of religious whackjobs who made enough of a stink for it to hit the national news cycle; just like kids eating Tide Pods did about a decade ago. There was an explosion of "concern" about what kids were up to but then when anyone who cared enough to look around saw that it was a huge nothingburger, everyone just went about their life and the handful of national news stories just became a joke about kids doing satanic things with D&D and other fantasy properties. But it wasn't a complete nothing. It was a big enough splash with the Boomers to get a really shitty Tom Hanks movie made. And of course we saw those same religious whackjobs pop up to scream and cry about satanism being advertised to children again when Harry Potter started coming out.
>>98380140>ONE GUY rode a bear originally in Kislev. One.Yes, in an army with like six units, one of them was a bear rider. Pretending the joke of an army list they had in 6th is an extensive look at what they do or dont have is retarded.
>>98380140GW only made one model and gave rules to one person riding a bear. However, they did publish (kitbashed) images of bear cavalry in their official Kislev book during 6th ed. Therefore making Bear Cavalry as a unit, canon.

>>98380265Yes, but you wouldn't get it
>>98380300It comes with the flying chariot as a Hero option
>>98380140>ONE GUY rode a bear originally in Kislev. And? Most armies in Warhammer have some kind of monstrous cavalry nowadays. If Empire knights can ride griffons, orcs can ride boars and dark elves and lizardmen can ride dinos, complaining about bears is pretty silly. The contrast between the realistic early modern aspects and the fantastical ones is a big part of the appeal of Warhammer. Just don't make the whole faction about bears.
>>98380338Ah thanks anon

Not to mention the retardness of the "Faith, Gunpowder and Steel" faction having a shitload of magic, monster cavalry, multiple cav orders, and flying griffins, making Brettonia look like a joke. But somehow Kislev should just stay as normal spearmanni and horse only faction that has worse guns and worse magic and somehow still be on par with the Empire?
