I don't know about you, but I don't read the descriptions of those and feel inspired, and really the entire concept is tied into the Atlantis stuff and a bunch of past metaplot which isn't my cup of tea.Meanwhile Ascension's are tied into the world and have ties to cultures, but usually not just one to each if you look at the subgroups. You have UUists, new age, druggies/party-goers, bankers, hermetics, monks, Internet users, people who really like B-movies, MIBs, etc. And not only that, but they changed over time as culture changed (compare to the Dark Eras books, ugh). To me, I could take any of Ascension's and come up with an interesting character.Awakening's social groups are much more "how you do it" and less "who you are", and consequently just aren't that interesting. Ascension focuses on "who you are", and the groups are more compelling because of that.Just imagine you awaken tomorrow. Do you want to be in a world where your choices for social group are whether you're fighty or sneaky and that have a conflict based on something you've never heard of and have no stake in, or do you want the world where you can join groups based on Norse runes or Christian prayers or crystals or sex or science or things like that?
